Wireless music for the audio enthusiast

Bluesound Pulse Mini

If you're serious about your music and its sound quality, here's good news. With the Bluesound system you can play your high-resolution music files and enjoy the convenience of wireless multi-room audio throughout your home. Bluesound was designed by the makers of NAD electronics and PSB speakers, both experts when it comes to delivering high-performance audio.

Compact, studio-quality speaker

The Bluesound Pulse Mini — as the name implies — is sized just right for a bookshelf, workstation, nightstand, or any other place where space is at a premium. But small size doesn't mean small sound. The Pulse Mini has two 2” speakers, amplified separately to ensure responsiveness and accuracy. A 3-1/2” woofer handles the low frequencies, ensuring rich, well-rounded sound. And with 50 watts total system power, you'll be able to hear every detail.

High-res audio

A universe of music options

Bluesound is compatible with virtually all digital music formats — including high-resolution files up to 24-bit/192kHz. Access the music stored on your computer or a networked hard drive. Stream from Internet radio stations and online services like Spotify®, Rhapsody, and TIDAL. You can also enjoy downloads from high-res music sites such as HDtracks.  The player is compatible with MQA, an up-and-coming high-resolution audio format. The Pulse Mini also features a USB input for playing files "locally" from a thumb drive or hard drive — ideal when friends come over with their own music.

Bluesound control app

Control the system through Bluesound's free app for your smartphone or tablet.

High-quality Bluetooth

The Pulse Mini features aptX® audio coding, an advanced form of Bluetooth that allows higher-fidelity sound with compatible Bluetooth devices. The system is backwards-compatible with earlier forms of Bluetooth, too. Bluetooth is a convenient way to play the sound from any app you might be using on your mobile device, including Netflix® and YouTube™. You can even share that Bluetooth source with other Bluesound music players around your house that are connected to the same network.

Create a high-resolution multi-room music system

Combine multiple Bluesound players to enjoy high-end sound throughout your home.

  • Pulse Flex: This ultra-compact can fit just about any place.
  • Powernode 2: This amplified player connects to a pair of speakers. It may be small, but it's powerful enough to drive a pair of floor-standing speakers.
  • Node 2: Connects to your home audio system and makes it part of the Bluesound network.
  • Pulse 2: This all-in-one player is perfect for almost any room. It has built-in PSB speakers for great sound in a compact package.
  • Pulse Soundbar: Delivers powerful sound for movies and TV shows while giving you full access to music through your Bluesound network.
  • Vault 2: If you've amassed a large collection of CDs, then the Vault was designed for you. It's a storage drive designed with the audio enthusiast in mind. This drive defaults to bit-perfect recording of your CDs, letting you experience every detail without switching discs every time you want to hear a new track or album.

Pretty incredible for something so small

Lucas from Southern California on 3/29/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am typically reluctant to purchase all-inclusive devices and especially anything that relates to music and sound quality. My first Bluesound device was a Node 2 that allowed me to use my existing stereo system. In the interest of expanding the multiple room features of Bluesound and because I needed something in the bedroom I purchased a Pulse Mini. I am quite impressed with the sound reproduction of the Pulse Mini. Lows were my main concern and I am very surprised with the accuracy of the lows. The sound is clear and precise even at low volumes. I haven't even turned it up that loud because it fills the ~12x12 room with ease. I didn't really think I needed sound in Bedroom but I am so happy to have this now. It even has an Alarm feature which I hadn't even planned on. I enjoy the controls on the top for easy starting of music without starting up the app. I also output the TV to this for clearer TV audio which is an extra bonus.

Pros: Amazing sound Aux input Alarm feature No ground (2 prong) plug

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my 4th Bluesound device. It has a size factor that is a easier to move around that the Pulse and a little more inconspicuous in it's surroundings- kitchen, deck, bedroom, etc. At low to mid listening levels sound quality of on par with the Pulse. The nearly endless possibilities of sources and true HiFi capability make these things awesome.

Pros: Sound Quality

Cons: Price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I use it while working in the garage - my florescent garage lights cause interference with over-the-air radio. no interference with this unit. Expensive (-1 star), but sounds better than most speakers of it's size (maybe better than all of them), and integrates nicely with my other bluesound equip.

Bluesound Mini

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Picked the mini to complement a Vault 2 I bought a few months back. Set up was simple. Interface across the Bluesound App was also easy and has worked well. Immediately impressed with the sound quality. I do not have a great "ear" - but was literally taken back by the difference between the mini and my stock JBL speakers the mini replaced. I move around quite a bit within the house, some adjacent structures, and the outdoors. Easy to move - plug in - and connect.

Pros: Ease of use; great sound; simple interface

Cons: None

Bluesound Pulse Mini

Matts from New London, NH on 4/16/2016

I was looking to downsize my stereo to something a little more versatile. After listening to some all in ones - Bose, B&W, Sonos - I decided to to try out the Pulse Mini, not having heard it prior. Great decision on my part as the flexibility and sound quality are tremendous. Set up took about 3 minutes and I was streaming music from Tidal. My prior stereo was pretty high end, and although this can't go nearly as loud, the quality of sound is better. Very impressed with this unit, already planning to get another.

Pros: Tonally balanced Impressive soundstage for an all in one Weighty bass Crisp highs in space Expressive mid range

Cons: None

Bluesound Hardware Great - Software Not So Much

Paul S from Littleton, CO on 4/16/2016

I own 6 Bluesound products, including 2 Pulse Minis. Lately, after several recent software updates, I've been having a lot of trouble keeping my entire system online. I'll open an app on my computer or on my phone and see only 3 or 4 of my Bluesound devices listed. Five of my six Bluesound devices have hard-wired ethernet connections, so Wifi is not the problem. All of my devices show sold blue lights, which should mean a solid network connection. Right now, I'm sitting at my computer, on which the Bluesound app shows 5 of my devices. My iphone lying beside me on the desk shows all six. I have lots of other issues with the software, but when I can't even stay in touch with my devices, those other annoyances pale in comparison. I tried to post this information on the Bluesound forums, but they refused me access unless I enabled 3rd party cookies to let them track and monitor me. I love the hardware. The sound is significantly better than the Sonos system I used for eight years before buying Bluesound, and I like the fact that Bluesound will play my high resolution music without the need for transcoding. I don't, however, enjoy always having to reboot things to make the system work. Update 5.19.2016 - I sent a support request to Bluesound after my connectivity issues got so bad that two Bluesound devices playing the same program disconnected from each other twice in the course of one hour. Bluesound support was able to read the logs and determine that the Bluesound devices were getting new DHCP addresses from my router more often than normal. Bluesound has no ability to specify a fixed IP address in their software, so they sent me into the depths of my router's configuration. I was able to enter manual IP addresses for each of my Bluesound devices, but the process was tricky. There's a MAC address on a label attached to each Bluesound device, but that is only for the wired ethernet connection. For devices that connect wirelessly, there's a different MAC address buried in the diagnostic files in the configuration menus. Once manual addresses were in place for all my Bluesound devices, my system became much more stable, and I've had two devices linked together for over a week without disconnecting. I am surprised that this level of hands-on configuration is necessary, because my Sonos system (5 devices) ran fine for eight years with IP addresses automatically assigned by DHCP, but the manual IP addresses provided a fix. I'm now raising my rating from 2 stars to 4 stars. Bluesound's software still has some problems and lacks the elegance, intuitiveness and simplicity of Sonos' software, but that's a tradeoff I'm willing to live with for better sound and the ability to play high-resolution audio tracks without transcoding.

Pros: Great sound. Plays high resolution music files.

Cons: Very poor quality software.
