No frills, but it does everything you'd expect it to do. Strobe tracks sell.

Easy to setup and very nice for the price!
Great purchase! Playing records once again; love the turntable; easy to operate and functions as expected.
Perfect fit for our business !!
No frills, but it does everything you'd expect it to do. Strobe tracks sell.
Cons: Wish it came with an auto return.
Love it! Playing my vinyl sounds like you are there in the club
Cons: no auto arm return
great turntable for the money. worst instruction Manuel i have ever seen.
The quality and sound are both impressive for the price of this turntable. I paired it with a pair of amplified speakers and the sound is truly superb. It was a bit of a bother to assemble the turntable and we had to consult a Crutchfield tech for guidance, but we got it up and running in a few short minutes.
Easy to set up and the sound is very good
Awsome turntable so nice to play my albums again. Only one thing the tonearm could use a stronger hold down clip
Nice product for the price. Easy to set up. The preamp doesn't push much volume and no auto return arm. Other than those two observations it's a nice turntable at an affordable price.
Pros: Easy set up, good sound.
Cons: No auto return arm and low volume if your using only the internal preamp
easy setup and looks great with my vintage stereo system, I would recommend this turntable to anyone who is looking for good quality for the money you spend.
Pros: easy to set up and looks great, a great addition to my vintage stereo system.
Music Hall USB-1 was simple to assemble out of the box. It plays beautifully only now I need time to learn how to use the extra playing and recording features. The price was perfect for getting me back to listening to my vinyls again. I only wish would be was that it had a automatic return stow arm when it gets to the end of a record. Otherwise it fits well within my needs of quality, function and cost.
Pros: Simple to set up, great sound quality, ease of use, great options for a low price to record songs to a computer.
Cons: Does not auto reset at the end of record playing.
Great turntable for the price. Crutchfield has AMAZING customer service, and fast shipping.
Great service from Crutchfield , fast shipping and very well packed. The turntable arrived in pristine condition . Setup was very easy and was running in 15 minutes. Did a cartridge alignment to correct factory setup. The belt drive unit is quiet and cartridge provides good sound . Very good value for the price .
Pros: Very good fit and finish
Cons: No auto stop and end of play
Great looking and sounding turntable
I purchased this turntable over others in the "less than $300" price range because it has the right combination of features. - It has both USB and RCA outputs which can work simultaneously. Plus, the RCA out has switchable (on or off) preamp, so you can plug it into any stereo. - it is not direct drive. The metal platter is belt-driven and has a strobe (so you know the speed is accurate). - The tone arm has both anti-skate and tracking force adjustments, with a quality cartridge and stylus. This combination allows me to once again enjoy my old vinyl records, and have the ability to easily make digital archives on my computer. Now that I have had the chance to use it for a while I am very happy with the quality and sound. The only drawback is the tone arm drop lever does not have any dampening, so you have to carefully lower it manually.
Pros: Good quality and sound
Cons: The tone arm drop lever does not have dampening
Sounds Great! Blast from the past to be back in vinyl! Order was shipped and to my door in a few days. Set up was not very difficult. Was listening to music in 15 minutes. Have always had good luck with Crutchfield. Love the simple look of the Music Hall turntable. Have had many compliments from other vinyl enthusiasts. I am sure there are fancier tables with more bells and whistles but I like the simplicity of this unit. Reminds me of the 70's.....
Pros: It's all good.
Cons: Set up of the balance could have been made easier with better instruction but it was not difficult to figure out.
Wonderful gift for my husband who has over 100 albums. Service was amazing!
Great player , reasonable price
Easy to set up! Made a call to tech support regarding how to sync with my Bowers & Wilkins speakers. With a 2 min conversation, I was set and ready to play my vinyl! Love the product, love the Crutchfield team. I chose to purchase from Crutchfield Vs another online retailer for the purpose of support which turned out to be a very smart decision.
Pros: Easy assembly Looks nice Sounds good Can add to current system Great product support
Cons: None thusfar, in serving my particular purpose for the turntable.
Love the turntable. Sounds good. Everything I was looking for
I was surprised at the quality of this turntable. Of course, anything you get from Crutchfield is top notch. The turntable is made very well and the stylus cartridge very high quality. With the Audacity Software included, I had fun learning the software and burning LP's to high quality CD's. Exactly what I was wanting and looking for.
Easy to set up and use, my 25 year old daughter said it was legit and is jealous of dad.
Pros: Easy setup.
Love it. Easy to use. High quality. My only problem was with figuring out how to adjust the counterweight on the tone arm. I'm still not sure I got it right. The counterweight wiggles when you're supposed to be holding it still (to turn back to zero.)
Pros: simple nice quality (i think) easy to hook up to USB for ripping
Cons: counterweight adjustment was awkward
Love this turntable!!!! To be honest the last one that I owned was over 20 years ago so I can't compare it with anything modern but this is an enormous improvement upon what I used to have!!! I would say that any audiophile who is just getting into vinyl or is replacing a turntable that is not pro-quality should seriously consider this one.
I got this because reviewers indicated that it had better sound quality than the comparably priced Audio Technica turn table but was disappointed to realize it does not have automatic stop/start feature. This is problematic especially when the turn table reaches the end of the record as it will not shut-itself off so must be monitored (don't fall asleep, etc). Overall it works as advertised and seems to have good build quality--I just did not pay close enough attention to the features when I bought it. Haven't tried the software to record to MP3 so can't rate that.
Pros: Good sound quality, some higher-end features.
Cons: Dust cover must be opened to stop/start or power on/off. No automatic start/stop. Instructions about balancing counterweight not intuitive.
The Music Hall surpassed my expectation; the ease of setup, the sound quality is worth the money. I highly recommend.
Pros: ease of everything with this product.
Cons: trying to find one...
Relatively easy setup (YouTube helped with counterweight setup for the uninitiated). Love the features, just starting to play with everything. Can't wait to get the other components and new speakers to really put this to use.
Very nice turntable for the money. Sounds good, looks nice. Very happy with it.
Great turntable. Good price as usual from Crutchfield. Very accurate and precise operation and easy setup.
Pros: Just a great turntable for the price. Easy setup.
Purchase through Crutchfield was great. There really is no need to drive out for your products.
Pros: Everything you need to play records & transfer to digital.
Cons: Some assembly required
Works very well for my needs.
It's not cool; it's awesome! Takes me back in time, remembering the good days of LP listening.
Pros: No bounce, adjustable balance, quality product
Cons: No cons for me. This product has everything I need.
I haven't had a chance to use the turntable much yet as I bought it as a present for a family member. I was pleased with the setup and build of the table. The initial sound seemed very impressive. I haven't tried out the USB feature for burning the records to MP3's yet. Very nice looking and nice sounding turntable for the price.
I immediately installed a new Shure M97XE High Accuracy Turntable Cartridge which I had recently purchased for my old Realistic Lab-400 turntable that just died. But using either cartridge, I did notice the "highs" are not as pronounced as my old turntable. As a note, I cleaned the stylus with a soft brush and noticed the stylus is active even though the turntable was powered off, and yes, the receiver was turned on at the time. According to the Music Hall Company, this is normal for the stylus on all their belt driven turntables. They emailed me the following: "That's perfectly normal. The power only affects the platter motion. It doesn't stop the output from the cartridge, which is plugged into your receiver, which was obviously on and turned to the phono input. For cleaning the stylus with a brush, it would be best to change the input on your receiver or turn the receiver off. The table is working perfectly." I tested the USB connection to my wife's laptop to create a digital copy of an album. I am using my own Sony's Sound Forge Audio Studio 10.0 software. It will create a *.wav file initially, and at the same time you can save it as a MP3 file and enter in the titles of each track individually. I did install and start-up the Audacity recording software, but I am more familiar with the Sony software, so I really cannot evaluate the Audacity software, besides the Audacity creates a different audio file that other software cannot read.
Pros: It was easy to set up. If their manual is hard to understand, I recommend searching YouTube and watch a video on how to set it up. Reference the tonearm, I saw one video suggesting to use 2g, while the manual suggests 3g. I am using 1.5g and 1.5 with the anti-skate. The turntable sounds good.
Cons: The Pitch Control does fluctuate while playing an album. I am not sure why this is happening but it doesn't seem to be a noticeable problem while listening to the LP.
Absolutely love this record player. It was super easy to set up. The instructions were crystal clear and easy to follow! Literally I was playing records in a matter of minutes! I'd previously purchased a set of Audio Engine speakers and they sound amazing. I'm not what you might call "technically adept" but this system made me look like an expert!
Easy to use, quality is good, brings back good memories.
Pros: USB port is a plus, easy connection.
Just got it completely set up yesterday as it was a Christmas present. Seems to be working as it should be so far!
I purchased this turntable to replace a very old Connosseur BD2. I found the set up instructions easy to follow. There were some things about the set up that could have been clearer though. When setting up the tone arm tracking weight, the instructions refer to clockwise or counterclockwise rotation of the adjustment weight. This is as you look down the tone arm from the front of the turntable. Other than that, no problems at all. The sound is beautiful. I have a friend that has one and I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to listen to it before hand. I compared it to others in the price range and it sounds a LOT better than any others I have heard. It sounds very much like several others that are over a hundred dollars more, even with the mediocre Audio-Technica stylus supplied. I did find that the LP would slip slightly on the mat at the recommended 3 gram tracking setting, causing the pitch to be thrown off slightly. I set the weight down to 2.5 grams and it seems to be much better. I'm sure this is because of the cheap foam platter mat. I will get a better rubber mat for it. It probably would be better with a platter that has more mass. So far, I'm loving this product. I think it's a better than decent TT especially for the money.
Pros: Digital conversion capable including software. Adjustable pitch (platter speed +/-10% with built in strobe), adjustable tracking and skating controls, nice look and finish. S shape tone arm with Audio-Technica cartridge. Built in preamp with switchable outputs. Dual voltage switch (120-240 vac).
Cons: Cheap platter mat Very light platter
Well made turntable that makes my old albums sound great. It's quite and noise free. Well worth the money.
Pros: Works well with my existing equipment. And it's a good looking unit as well.
Cons: I wish it had an automatic stop. And the arm balancing instructions could have been clearer to speed setup.
Was looking for a moderately priced turntable to replace an old belt-drive Gemini XL-400. I liked the internal preamp on the Music Hall because it could be disabled once I upgraded to an external amp. However, the USB-1 just feels cheap... chintzy black plastic housing a chintzy tonearm with a lame pre-mounted cartridge. Even the speed seems inconsistent as I'm often adjusting the pitch to make the strobe dots stand still again. The sound is decent as I'm running it through a Grado cartridge, Budgie tube pre-amp and an NAD D3020 amplifier/receiver. The USB recording is a nice feature I guess but not something I'd ever sit down and do, even though that's probably what I paid for. Basically I miss my old Gemini.
Pros: Looks good. Internal pre-amp.
Cons: Feels cheap. Tonearm very light. Cartridge needs upgrade. Included felt not very static resistant.
Nice turntable. Not as solid as my old platter (a vintage 1977 direct drive model) but once setup works well. The manual has the recommended track weight too high- I found the sweet spot at 2.5G.
Excellent product! Very easy to setup. It is nice to listen to vinyl again on a quality turntable.
Pros: Very easy to set up. Also great option for copying your vinyl to digital with the included software. Couldn't be more pleased!
Finally getting around to digitizing stacks of vinyl! Even with the occasional pop, it's been great to play records that have been sitting in my attic for 20 years. The sound is very rich and the stereo separation excellent.
Pros: Set-up was easy and the sound is great.
Cons: Hard to find a place to put it in my cabinet!
I have been buying some new vinyl lately and never owned a good turntable. Found The USB-1 and thought I'd give it a go. I had never set up a turntable and found the process fairly easy. Operationally, this turntable is awesome and I am finally listening to old and new vinyl regularly. Haven't tried the USB recording yet but glad I have that option. A great turntable for $250.
Pros: Cutting edge appearance, easy to set up, USB recording, software on CD, company from the US of A!
Cons: Since most tablets and laptops don't have CD drives, it may be necessary to contact manufacturer to get a downloadable version. Have not contacted them yet.
After comparing the different turntables available for the purpose I needed, I settled on the Music Hall USB-1. It has the features I wanted to be able to record some of my rougher vinyl to CD via my computer software (Magix). Very easy setup and I like the ability to connect to my computer and monitor through my stereo system at the same time by using an auxiliary input on my receiver and using the built in phono pre-amp on the turntable, don't have to switch the pre-amp back and forth.
Pros: Quality of sound and ease of use at a great price.
I had been putting off buying a turntable to go with my audiophile quality system due to lack of funds to buy a VPI classic. A friend bought a $445 Pro-ject and this made me consider a cheap stopgap TT. Scoured the web and found this for $250. Got it set it up and thought OK this is what you get for $250. Two weeks later it broke in and it was like why have I been listening to CD's? This is the Honda Accord of turntables all incremental improvements on this will require large sums of money. If you are on the wall trying to decide this is the best dollar for sound proposition out there.
Purchased the usb 1 for my nephew who was just starting to get into vinyl, helped him set it up and was amazed with the quality and performance for this price range table. After the first record played he was all smiles and had to go out and add to his collection. IMHO great table for the money.
Pros: easy set up, ease of use, a great all around starter turntable.
Great retro look and feel match great performance. The finish and feel is better than on more expensive alternatives.
Pros: Ability to record to computer Arm clamp
Cons: Set up instructions hard to understand
A good looking and good performance player.
Pros: accurate and quiet player.
Cons: no auto play/ stop system.
This is a great turntable. Easy to set up and easy to use. Already transferred some of my vinyl to digital with only a little learning curve. Exactly what I wanted.
Pros: Easy set up. Great sound. Easy to use.
I bought this turntable specifically to copy my aging vinyl LP collection (circa 1962) to my iPod. Although I have just begun the process I am very pleased with the quality of the turntable. It is an attractive glossy black. It is heavy (which is what you want in a turntable) supported by four approximately 2 1/2" diameter pads with adjustable height for leveling. Steady as a rock. Easy to assemble the few parts and balance the tonearm. The pitch adjust (speed) using the dots around the platter is very sensitive allowing precise control. So far I have not hooked it up to my audio system, since I am now just using the USB connection to my PC for copying vinyl. I can say, however, that the audio quality during playback on my iPod is terrific. I highly recommend this turntable
Pros: Attractive, Stable, High quality for the money, Great for digitizing vinyl.
Finally have a way to play the old Bluegrass and Country LPs the wife cannot stand.
Pros: Have not had a chance to transfer to disc. Will try this function very soon
I am very pleased with the product. As a tribute to Crutchfield, it was well described, packed and shipped. To my surprise it arrived prior to the estimated delivery date. As for the product itself, it was easy to assemble, looks and feels substantial, is easy to operate and sound great!
Pros: easy assembly; well constructed; reasonably priced; sounds great.
Cons: I cannot say anything negative about the product
Good player. Best value I found.
Pros: Great sound, good price, easy set up.
Cons: More plastic than I anticipated.
I have a large collection of vinyl from the '60s and '70s and my $100+ Audio Technica turntable (same as the Denon DP-29F sold by Crutchfield) was giving me problems in addition to having excessive rumble, an issue since I bought a subwoofer. So I decided to go up one level and try the Music Hall USB-1. It arrived in a couple of days as promised. The instructions for balancing the tone arm are somewhat vague, but I managed to figure it out. I was surprised that it didn't have automatic shutoff, but that's not a big deal. What's most important is sound quality, which is excellent, and rumble, which is undetectable. I like the strobe light for seeing and adjusting rpm, and knowing that when some notes sound awry that the isn't because the speed is off. I've had it for a few weeks now, and have played much of my collection. I think it's a great turntable for the money. (Note: I haven't tried using the USB feature or the accompanying software yet).
Pros: Excellent sound; no rumble; strobe light; classy looks; USB output (though I haven't used it yet).
Cons: Less than ideal setup instructions; no automatic shutoff.
I bought this as a gift for my 18 year old grandson. This turntable works and sounds better than expected. I did my homework and then called CRUTCHFIELD to order. My sales rep was extremely helpful and informative. He gave me options but did not try to steer me to higher priced units. We plugged in this unit and were very pleased with the sound quality. The versatility of this unit is a plus....it can either be connected to a computer or a receiver. Excellant unit for the cost and great customer service.
Pros: Versatility and sound, weighted tone arm.
Great sounding turntable, I replaced my 20 year old bang Olufsen and I believe this turntable sounds better,at a fraction of the cost of a replacement cartridge for the B/O. However the B/O is automatic and this one is manual. The tone arm setup was a little confusing since the manual said to set it for 3G and I found on youtube a video from the manufacturer saying to set it at 1.8G. Not sure what the correct setting is but the tone arm seems to skip very easily at 3G.
Pros: Makes my old albums sound new.
Cons: Tone arm adjustment instructions not accurate.
Heavy duty turntable with good sound. Very easy to assemble; up and running quickly.
Pros: You don't have to worry if your sound system has the correct amp.....this one has a pre-amp. It's great to be able to record LP's onto a computer for those LP's not available in electronic format.
Cons: Lift up cover needs enough space to open.
My teenage daughter asked for a turntable for Christmas. I started looking at the big box electronic stores and was not impressed with the quality of the products. I checked out the Crutchfield website and was amazed at the number of turntables they had available. I read the info to help select the right turntable and ordered it. This turntable has a built in amp so in can be played through a small Bose speaker or it can be played through our home stereo system. It is very well built and easy to set up and start playing records. I even had to go to the attic and dig out my records from the 70's and 80's. We are so impressed with the sound we are going record shopping today. Would highly recommend this turntable to anyone who wants to start back into the vinyl but doesn't want to spend the huge dollars yet.
Pros: Easy to use and set up
Cons: Have not discovered any yet.
Great sound! The highs can really be heard, more than the digital music we have downloaded and play through our system! Fun to break out the vinyl!
Pros: Great highs and good price!
Cons: None yet
So far, so good. Very quick delivery, easy assembly. Great sound. Solid turntable for the price. Haven't had a chance to try the USB - software side of this player yet, but that is a great option for down the road.
Pros: Easy set-up, great sound, ability to transfer LP to CD or digital files. Easy pitch adjustment.
Cons: Wish it had an automatic return so I didn't have to manually replace the tone arm at the end of the record.
Love the clean lines and playability of this turntable...great product for the money.
Pros: Even my older vinyls play great.
Cons: Instructions could have been better... Photos are of help. I went on line to figure out to assemble the tone arm.
This is my first turntable purchase and very happy with it overall. The built-in amplifier is a plus for the simplicity and 'testing the waters," of vinyl without major investment in components. The sound was full, rich and clear playing daft punk albums. While turning, I can notice on the strobe markings on the plate, that there is some oscillation. This creates no perceptible audible consequence to my ears, however. I have no specific negative critique-- I am happily satisfied, and in general reserve a 5-star rating for astoundingly excellent product-encounters. I have not tried the USB yet.
Delivery what it promissed
Pros: Good cost benefit!
Cons: Low quality of the manual.
Easy to set up. Professional system. Blended well with Yamaha receiver.
Pros: Nice looking. Can record albums to pc with this turntable.
Cons: Arm does not automatically retract when LP is complete.
Very accurate and true sound. It's tricky to use till one practices with many records.
Pros: Sturdy and has more than one output port
Cons: Tricky placement of stylus.
Good piece of equipment great service.
Pros: Good sound
Cons: Poor instructions
I am really happy with this purchase! The sound is really better than I remember my old Lp's sounding like. I think the fact that it's a belt drive serves to isolate the motor noise.
Pros: Good build quality for this price range. Very clean sound. Easy set- up. pitch control is also a plus.
Cons: The only thing I'm not sure of is how the plastic base will look after some wear.
A wonderful product, enabling my wife and I (Weiss Duo) to hear some vinyl 33 LP's that we made in 1966, and many other great LP's that we have in our collection.
Pros: Unlike the old turntables, it has very low surface noise, and the quality of the sound is beautiful. Thanks for fast delivery and excellent tech support in setting it up.
Cons: No cons.
I needed to upgrade my linear tracking turntable to a newer model with USB output. This unit looks great and sounds great. There is no turntable noise or hum. This was a great investment for me and back to downloading from about 700 albums that I still had from over the years that are still in mint condition. Running through 500 Watt amp into my teak wood speakers from the 70's make this sound like I am sitting in a concert.
Pros: Sounds great. Easy software setup for downloading vinyl to I-tunes. Tone arm balance is absolutely dead on and the cue drops stylus onto the vinyl very gently. The dust cover fits snug and while lifting up or closing it has a very smooth feel.
Cons: A return on the tone arm would have been a nice touch. I had to buy a longer USB cord than the 6 ft cord provided. I guess it's ok if you can set up your turntable within 6 ft of your computer but I didn't have that choice. I did find a 15 ft cord online for $4.50 which shipped the same day.
This is the first turntable that I've owned for a really long time. The setup was a breeze. I like the USB connection to digitize my analog library. The software that came with the turntable is free (GNU license) and really easy to get plug-ins online. I have placed my turntable about 4' from my speakers (only because of my living room layout) and I can crank it up pretty loud before the excellent shock absorption starts to feed back. Overall, I'm quite pleased with my purchase and, of course, the Crutchfield service was flawless.
Pros: The mid-range price was perfect my budget. The appearance is sleek and looks good with the rest of my stuff. It sounds great and easy to use.
Cons: I don't really have anything unfavorable to say about this at this time.
Bought this for my man and he loves it. However, he is not very patient when it comes to software so it was put on me to figure out.. Quite complicated software system but worth it when you put time into it.
Pros: Hook up was easy, sturdy, anti-skate.
Cons: Only feature that is really missing on this is a automatic return... that would make it PERFECT...
This was a Christmas gift for my husband. He loves it and the features are great! The USB port was one of the key components that I wanted for him to digitize his vinyl. Crutchfield amazed us once again!!!!!
A great value for the price.
I am new to the whole record player and vinyl scene. My new fascination required me to purchase a record player/ turntable but as with most amateurs, i had no idea where to begin. I began to pore through multiple websites for turntables. I wanted a good turntable for a reasonable price. I didnt want to spend $100 for a crappy one so i sought for something within the 200-300 range. I found this music hall usb 1 and decided to do my research on it. It has great reviews for an entry level enthusiast as myself and at a good price. Shipping was totally fast and free. you cant beat that. and its been working great. I have a Bose stereo system that is sorta out dated. Still sounds great. I might be required to update my system. but other than that its great and totally recommend one to any new comer.
Pros: great look and easy set up. dust cover is a great plus.
I had purchased 2 less expensive USB turntables and had to return both. Spending a little bit more for the Music Hall USB-1 was more than worth it! Very good and solid build, easy to set-up. We have it connected to Bose Companion II powered speakers and the sound is fantastic. Having a bit of trouble getting the Audacity software to work with our HP laptop, but I'm sure it will get sorted out.
Pros: Solid design. Looks great and is easy to set-up.
Cons: Audacity software is a bit tricky to get to work.
This is a nice turntable. The setup was really easy with good instructions. The stylus is good. It is pretty rugged, too. I used the USB input from the turntable to digitize some of my old vinyl. The supplied software worked well, also. If you are looking to digitize some of your old vinyl without breaking the bank, this is a good value.
Pros: Easy to set up. Rugged. Works as advertised.
Cons: None, really. Pretty happy with this rig.
An excellent turntable, I have another Music Hall turntable as well. INCOMPREHENSABLE SOFTWARE - TOTALLY UNABLE TO USE THE PRODUCT
I purchased this USB turntable specifically to convert a collection of LPs, some titles dating back to the 50's, to MP3 format, and it delivered exactly what I wanted. It's a beautifully designed, engineered and constructed unit and I am very pleased with its clean, distortion-free playback into my stero receiver via its PHONO jacks, and into my Windows 7 PC via USB. The AudioTechnica phono cartridge is a bonus that, in large part, enables the superb performance. In the days before digital stero when much of music was on vinyl, I always used AT cartridges because of their very high quality and performance. The included paper Instruction Manual is a little brief, but adequately got me through setup and into my first recording session. I was able to convert the music content of an entire LP on the first try using the included "Audacity USB Recording and Sound Editing Software". The software includes detailed browser-based Quick Help and a user's Manual. I should note the Audacity software requires updating after installaton to version 2.0.2, and it initially lacks MP3 encoding software due to patent restrictions. However, free MP3 encoding software is easily downloaded and installed on the PC. It took a while to discover in the Help and Manual sections just where the program update and MP3 encoder software was available for download. Once the MP3 encoder was installed, I was able to export files to MP3 and import them into my iTunes Music Library. Thanks Crutchfield!
Pros: See my review.
Cons: None - love it!
Very good turntable for the price. Sounds great and transfers my vinyl to to iTunes. So I'm happy with it.
Pros: Very easy to assemble; I was digitizing records a half an hour after opening the box.
Cons: The tone arm doesn't return after finishing a record. Not a problem when I'm using the turntable to digitize records but a minor hassle when I'm just listing to records.
This is a really good Turntable, and for the Money a good buy I would recommend. The only thing that I would like to have see is the ability of starting/stopping the player from the software. as it is you have to go to the Turn table and place the Needle on the record and then go back and start recording. this can be a bit challenging if you have it connected to both your computer and a Home sound system.
Pros: Well Built, Great sound, easy software to use.
Cons: Doesn't have automatic/remote start/stop function
It's amazing how good my old vinyl's sound! This is my first turntable since the old days; my muscle memory is still there- removing the LP from the sleeve, holding it by its edges, gently squaring up the center hole with the turntable spindle, lining up the tone arm with the first grooves-that familiar snap when the needle first makes contact -got to remember to turn the volume down! The USB-1 performs flawlessly; my only gripe is that there's no automatic return of the tone arm at the end of the record-this is a totally manual turntable. The USB-1 has a built in preamp, which is good because my receiver (NAD C725BEE) has no preamp "out" for a turntable. I have yet to try the USB connection for digitizing albums.
Pros: Quiet; precise pitch; built in preamp; great sound--somewhat attributable to the NAD, to be sure. Pitch control (RPM adjustment)
Cons: No automatic return of the tone arm at the end of the record, resulting in lost of clicks and pops until you get over to the turntable to lift the tone arm.
The Music Hall USB-1 turn-table is a piece of electronic equipment that performs exactly as promised. In fact, for this review to be absolutely accurate, Crutchfield would have to furnish me about two more stars!! I have rarely used a machine that was so beautifully designed (dare one say flawless?) and made me so happy so quickly: Within two days of receiving my Music Hall USB-1 turntable, I was playing LPs into the provided Audacity software, and converting that into inputs to my iTunes library. The turntable is already fitted with an Audio-Technica 3600L cartridge (so that doesn't need to be installed), and the instructions clearly describe how to make the other adjustments (anti-skating, fine-tuning turntable speed, and cartridge balance). The turntable is completely manual (power switch, turntable ON-OFF, cartridge elevation lever), and has a strobe function for exact turntable speed tracking. If fact, the turntable is so good (incidental to the USB function) that it may quickly become my primary turntable for record-playing enjoyment
Pros: Cartridge provided, ease of use, preamp not neded, easy to use software too. Many adjustments possible (speed, anti-skating, cartridge weight balance).
Cons: Needs additional software in order to burn CDs (but that is found free on the Internet)
