Built to take it, built to dish it out

The VIV1422 sub features a paper/fibre laminate cone to give you bass that's warm and clean, with a double-stitched surround and reinforced double spider that are made to handle the stress of high-volume playback. The sub also features direct venting of the huge 7-1/2" voice coil to keep your sub running smooth, while the 320-ounce magnet allows this unique sub to thrive on power that would reduce other subs to shreds.

Dual voice coils

The dual 2-ohm voice coils allow you to wire the sub for 1-ohm impedance to get maximum power output, or for 4-ohm impedance if you're using multiple subs. Have fun out there!!

Features

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features two 2Ω voice coils, allowing impedance flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4Ω load.

Terminals: The two sets of spring post terminals are on the same side of the subwoofer. They will accommodate bare speaker wire up to 8 gauge. They will also accommodate many single banana plugs, but the post is slightly recessed, so some single banana plugs will not fit well. I was able to force a pair of standard dual banana plugs (3/4") into the posts, but they did not fit well.

Sealed Box Volume: Memphis Audio recommends a sealed box volume of 1.5 ft³. A sealed enclosure design gives the smoothest response with increased energy at the lowest frequencies.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume is 2.25 ft³ with a 6" x 4" x 23" slot port; this yields a tuning frequency of 32 Hz.

Q
I was wondering, why is this speak rms half the peak power? I haven't been able to understand that.

Greetings Nicholas. Thats a great question. RMS power is what a speaker can take 100% of time. All day, every day. Manufactures also test speakers/subs to their breaking point. What they do is put the most power on the speakers/subs for 1 second, and see if it breaks. The Peak power handling is where the speaker will fail with that power put on it for 1 second.

Q
What's the frequency response on the Memphis 1422?

Hi Charles! Thanks for your question! We do not have any frequency response listed on the Memphis 1422, unfortunately. I did check Memphis Audio's site as well, and I do not see any frequency responses listed there. The FS measurement is 29Hz, which is the frequency the sub will naturally resonate in free air. This is designed to hit the extremely low end frequencies, and will be felt more than heard. It is likely that more information could be released. That info was also not listed in the owners manual of the subwoofer.
