Video: Two ways to add a backup camera to your Jeep Wrangler

Get a wide-angle rear view in select 2007-up Wranglers

A rear-view or backup camera is a great way to enhance the safety in your 2007-up Wrangler, but Jeeps are different from most vehicles and present some mounting challenges. Fortunately, Crux and Brandmotion each make a backup camera designed to fit your Jeep.

There are two good places on the back of these Jeeps to mount a camera. First is behind the spare tire, peeking out through the spokes. That's where the Brandmotion camera mounts, and it's adjustable to see through most aftermarket wheels. This is the most central location, and has the advantage of being up high for an all-encompassing view. Check it out in the short video below.

But what if you have a wheel cover? That's where the Crux system comes in. It's mounted on the license plate, which is on the far left side of the Jeep. The camera sees past the spare tire and gives you a wide, if slightly offset view.

If you have any questions about adding a rear-view camera to your Jeep or any other vehicle, give us a call or contact us via chat. Our advisors will be happy to help you find the best way to add this safety feature to whatever you drive.

Are the backup cameras mounted inside the spare wheel more accurate than the ones mounted in the license plate. What I mean is are the lines accurate or do I have to take into account the camera is on the left side of the jeep and that the lines will be slightly off?

Nicholas, generally the spare tire cam will provide a more "natural" experience, simply because it is centered in the back of your Jeep. If a spare tire-mounted cam makes sense for you, I'd choose that vs. the Jeep license plate cam. If you prefer the license plate-style mount, there is no way to adjust the parking lines, other than to angle the camera angle itself. However, if you have a head unit with built-in, adjustable parking lines, you could defeat the parking lines in the camera and use the parking lines provided by your compatible stereo.

Hi Engie, I've passed your question along to our Advisors. Someone will contact you soon to help. The good news is you have a number of options between some single-DIN radios and an array of external monitors.
