Made for the way you play

If you get your music from a device instead of a disc, you need a receiver that's made for the way you play your tunes. JVC's KD-X340BTS digital media receiver features built-in Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, and an aux input, plus you can use a compatible phone to control whatever the receiver's doing. You can even add a SiriusXM satellite radio tuner (sold separately) and expand your entertainment horizons even more.

Ready for your Android™ phone

Android® users can control Pandora® right from the stereo through the Bluetooth connection — no wires needed. JVC's remote control app lets you use your compatible Android phone's touchscreen to control the action using finger swipes and gestures. With your Android phone safely attached to a mount, you can reach down and skip a track without taking your eyes off the road. You can also control your Pandora and iHeartRadio stations usng your phone or the receiver itself.

Great with your iPhone®, too

If you're an iPhone® user, this receiver gives you more than wireless control — you get voice control, too. Talk to Siri® Eyes Free technology to make calls, choose music, get directions, and more. Anything you can do with Siri can be done with this receiver.

Experience satellite radio

If you're a satellite radio fan, you can connect a SiriusXM® tuner (sold separately) and start enjoying the wide variety of music, sports, news, and entertainment available. If you haven't experienced satellite radio, you'll be blown away by the incredible selection of music and more that comes with your subscription. Plus, you can drive all the way across the USA without losing your favorite channels.

Tune your music the way you like it

The KD-X340BTS plays MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, and even FLAC files, so you'll be able to enjoy all your tunes when you travel. You'll find a wide array of sound-shaping tools, including Sound Response to boost frequencies in digital files, Space Enhancement to match the sound to the size of your car, and a 13-band graphic equalizer. The 24-bit DAC brings the best out of your tunes, and the Volume Link EQ boosts specific frequencies in the audio signal to compensate for road noise.

Bluetooth® made easy

Automatic pairing makes it a lot easier to enjoy hands-free calling and wireless audio streaming, no matter what kind of phone you're using.

Expand your system for sweeter sound

The KD-X340BTS gives you three sets of preamp outputs, which really comes in handy when you add amplifiers and a sub to your car audio system. Even if you're not planning to do that right away, it's always smart to invest in a receiver you can grow with. You can also pair two phones at once, so you don't have to choose between the personal phone and the work phone when you're driving.

A charging connection

With your smartphone connected to the KD-X340BTS, you can listen to your phone's internal memory as one source and access its microSD card as another. You'll also appreciate the USB port's powerful 1.5-amp charging capability.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

    2002 Mazda Miata
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit mainly because it was advertised to play audio from USB, so I wouldn't have to carry around a separate player. In fairness, it does play the audio. However, the user interface is less than usable. The most glaring flaw is that it has no idea of tree-structured directories with names, showing each directory as just "FolderXX", with no clue as to what might be in the directory, so searching for a particular work becomes a matter of trial & error. There are other minor problems as well. For example, it's supposed to be able to change the display color, but so far I've only managed to change the button backlight color: the display remains stubbornly white. I'd like it to display the clock at a readable size while it's playing, but I can only get a miniscule display. It does not start playing when I turn it on after starting the car, I have to cycle through the various inputs to get it to start. It extends the power antenna whenever the unit is turned on, not just when the radio is selected. In fairness, the hardware seems well done, other than the undersized buttons. It has good sound quality for the price, and everything seems to work pretty much as the designers intended. It's just that their intent doesn't match my expectations. It might work well for someone who likes a radio-like experience, with "songs" played in no particular order.

Pros: Good sound quality for the price.

Cons: User interface does not match what I wanted, and expected.

I'd give it just under 5 stars, but more than 4. Awesome receiver, easy to connect to. My only MINOR complaint is the size of the buttons (very small). Other than that, excellent receiver for the price.

    Pros: Price, features and quality

    Cons:

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am really enjoying the new JVC KD-X340BTS media receiver. It has all of the features I needed and wanted and positively impacts my factory speakers in my truck. The manual is very helpful with the media interface being mostly user friendly. Overall, I have no complaints and will continue showing it off to friends and family. Some of the major highlights include the variety in equalizer settings, the "oomph" it provides to my current speakers, the USB port, and the variable color illumination. Just an added aesthetic quality I found particularly pleasing. And Tyler walked me through the product and installation, which went great. Thanks again.

    2010 Toyota RAV4
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm still trying to figure out some of the functionalities of this radio, after a week of installation. It's small and compact. I have an Android phone, so I have to use the USB port, but even using It USB port, it doesn't recognize my phone. haven't been able to figure out the Bluetooth function, even after reading the instructions. I think the radio I replaced had better reception, but it was giving me other problems. I bought this radio as a replacement. I'm going to keep it, because I'm ok with it. I would like this radio better if the functions were easier to figure out. Maybe after a few more weeks, I can give a better review.

Pros: The radio is easy to connect, but the RAV4 dash kit took almost two hours to assemble. It's an ok radio. I live in a low frequency area and this radio picks up some stations. This radio will let you know it's waiting for a signal.

Cons: It doesn't recognize my Android phone using the USB port and I haven't been able to figure out how to connect to Bluetooth. I bought this radio to replace the stock radio in my car, because the stock radio was giving me some problems such as shutting off if I change channels. I've owned this radio for a week. It's taking some getting used to. The buttons to change channels are small, and I mixed up the settings button from the search button. I haven't figured out the Iheart function either.

    Best deal in the house.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Huge upgrade from my factory radio. The sound is great, and for the price....forget about it. It has to be one of Crutchfield's best deals. Clock could be bigger but that's greatly outweighed by the tons of cool features.

    Pros: Price Sound Features

    Cons: Small clock

OK stereo, good bang-for-the-buck. BT and time/date not reliable

Jeremy from Tijeras, NM on 9/29/2017

    1983 Ford Mustang

Cliff Notes: OK stereo, good quality for such a low price-point. Stereo frequently loses time/date for no reason. Bluetooth randomly will not connect (or stay connected). User-interface & menu options not necessarily intuitive. Sound quality sounds great to me, but I do not have a trained ear for that. It's almost like this head unit tried too hard to cram in all the fancy options, but just didn't do it well. But for the money, I would probably guy it again for another "kids car". Also, it will randomly get stuck in DEMO mode for no reason. Only way I can figure out how to get it out, is to turn car off for 15-30 mins and try again.

    Pros: Price Sound Color adaptability

Cons: Loses Time & Date Gets stuck in DEMO mode by itself Bluetooth not always reliable

Fantastic fit, look, and sound for my Jeep TJ, and the Crutchfield instructions were beyond what I expected. I have never installed a radio in my life, and I completed it like a pro in under an hour. The price was cheaper than one of the Big Box stores, and it came with the wiring adapter and the face. Thank you Crutchfield!

Easy installation into a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. The system is simple and straight forward to configure once installed. Pairing the Iphone worked seamlessly and the SiriusXm attachment could not be easier to install with this system. Paired with four Kicker speakers and was a huge upgrade to the factory system and speakers. Now in the 21st century.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This head unit does an awesome job for the price!I Also purchased 2 sets of the Drivn speakers for my doors and rear deck of My 02 Corolla. I am running a cheap Sony 500 watt mono amp to a Memphis StreetEdge 12" woofer as well. Since I don't ever listen to CDs anymore and run a Flash drive for all my music this was the perfect Headunit. Extreme flexibility in EQ settings and multiple HP and LP filters coupled with the sound enhancing features are unreal. Be aware it will take a good bit of time to get everything fine tuned using the pro EQ and setting up filters when running a dedicated woofer. However, when you are done, you will be blown away. This deck makes my car sound like I am running 10 speakers in the car along with the woofer. The only reason why 4 instead of 5 stars is because the bluetooth connectivity with my Iphone 6s is a bit wonky. Sometimes the speakers don't put out any sound when there is an incoming call. The included mic is very handy, no problems with clarity there. All in all great unit for the money, you cant go wrong with this one if you are looking for great sound quality out of a USB or phone music.

Like the head unit. I have to scroll through the settings to connect the Pandora, but it works great and controls fine from the unit. I like the features and the options. Buttons are a little small, but it has good features for an inexpensive unit. Overall I am very happy with it.

Pros: Small (no CD player). Color changing buttons and display (separately).

Cons: buttons are small on the unit, but not too bad

    2000 Ford Explorer

I received this model to install in my 2000 Ford Explorer currently using the stock standard radio (not MACH): Cassette, Single CD receiver. I had done lots of research on this vehicle and the various problems with a possible remote-installed amp above the rear-right wheel well. I followed the instructions on the unit and the provided radio connector adaptor to wire every thing up. All the wire colors matched exactly. I had to fiddle some with the plastic surround (suited for my dash opening, but the radio slid right in and all the connections were correct the first time. It took a couple of times before I could pair successfully on Bluetooth but even that was surprisingly effortless. Setting up radio stations into memory is a breeze. I'll dig into the manual tonight but all in all, a very successful install. Total research time 2 hours (prior to the Crutchfield site) Total install time, 45 minutes.

    Pros:

    Cons: None so far!

    Tons of features.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I haven't really messed around with car audio since the late 90s when the height of cool was a skipping in-dash CD player and nine more skipping CDs in a changer in the trunk. Bluetooth is solid. Tons of things to tweak. Build in crossovers, preset and custom EQ, built in amp has a reasonable amount of power, manual is clear and concise, and the lighting & color options are fantastic.

Pros: Sheer number of features while being easy to use. Handy charging and data over USB. Color and illumination options. Built-in crossovers, plenty of connection options.

Cons: The unit feels fragile. There is a good bit of flex before it gets secured to the bracket, so be gentle with it. One installed, it feels more solid, but the faceplate has some flex to it. Built-in amp has a surprising amount of power, though it is not the cleanest thing I've ever heard. Pair with a good amp and it sounds much better.

So far it is an great stereo for the price. It's so simple that it was a little difficult, but calling the the tech to help was easy and I figured out what they couldn't see, not being physically here. Once I realized I needed to reset the stereo to get the blue tooth to take my phone it worked so easy I rechecked a few times. I bought the pre wired harness and it's worth more than the price, not worrying about what went where, just plug and play. It went into my car with ease and is very light, so no worry about dash damage from a heavy piece. I would buy the again and again,

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The JVC KD-X340BTS is an excellent solution for those looking to replace a stock head unit on a budget with all of the features of a more well-equipped head unit. I've used this unit with an iPhone 5S and a Samsung Note 5. Bluetooth setup is a breeze, the sound quality is excellent, call quality is shockingly good. With both phones connected, the sound does skip from time to time. Disconnecting one of the phones resolves this problem. The mic it is supplied with easily picks up my voice and suppresses background noise. With the top up or down on my soft top Jeep, I can be heard without issue up to 55MPH. The only area this head unit lacks in is volume. Around town, I can leave it around 13-16, but on the highway, I need to move it to 22 to continue hearing anything properly. If you are looking to build a respectable sound stage in your car an amp will be required to push the main cabin speakers further. The brightness of the display can be adjusted through the menu system, and while it's bright enough to read clearly with direct sunlight on the display, it does not get as dim as I'd like for night time driving. Picking up FM radio stations have been difficult to some extent, this may be a result of my stock antenna. Overall I'm very happy with my head unit and would purchase this again. Final note, I spoke to Crutchfield Sales Support prior to this purchase, hands down the best phone support I've ever had with any vendor or retailer.

Pros: cheap, very high-quality build, solid and easy Bluetooth setup, great sound, easy to use menues, button placement is logical, dead simple to install, the high-quality microphone, the clock says in sync over FM and Bluetooth

Cons: The screen is a bit bright at night even on the lowest settings, lacking a bit in volume output (wish the amp was a bit stronger), Bluetooth can struggle with two devices attached at the same time.

Easy to install, sounds good for what I need.

Josh from Fayetteville, NC on 8/22/2017

    2003 Mitsubishi Montero

Great budget head unit. I wanted to upgrade my 2003 Montero Limited to a more modern head unit and this fit the bill great. The sound that it produces is clear with great range using the factory Infinity sound system installed. Bluetooth works easy and it charges the phone as I need for longer trips. The only downside is that I couldn't really figure out the mounting solution for the brackets. I might just need longer screws to attach the factory brackets but I really don't care honestly the radio doesn't move and it's covered up by the trip work, plus it's just a 14 year old daily work suv, not worried about looks so much.

Pros: Great sound, easy to install, good connectivity with Bluetooth and phone calls. Pretty easy menu system to navigate.

Cons: Mounting is a bit off but I may just not know what I'm doing, or it could be the fact that the truck is older who knows. It's not perfect but It will do the job without moving or causing any trouble. Would Recommend though.

Crutchfield response on 8/22/2017 Josh, we're sorry you're having problems installing your mounting brackets. If you need our help, please just reach out to our Tech Support team. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.

this head unit is fantastic. I'm not usually one to purchase things that I can skip (up until this point, I was just using an aux to rca splitter), as I like to save my money. The 13 band EQ is fantastic, the sound lift actually works, and as soon as I installed it I immediately noticed a difference in the quality of my music.

Pros: Absolutely fantastic digital features, all of them work. Excellent preset EQ's cut right through wind noise

Bought this unit to replace a much older unit in my MG. I was looking for an inexpensive unit that would allow me to stream satellite radio as well as hands free cell phone usage. I had no desire nor need for cd function. This unit fit the bill perfectly. Bluetooth connectivity has been flawless and the unit has performed as expected. I took advantage of the JVC speaker discount offer and was very pleased with the overall performance. Overall, surprisingly good system for a very reasonable price.

Pros: Versatile unit, contains most sought after features, ie; Bluetooth, iPhone connectivity, decent performance for price.

Cons: Tedious manual. Wish clock display was larger. Time consuming and somewhat confusing to get thru the setups.

This head unit is great. Installation was fairly easy and it functions incredibly well. The bluetooth feature works flawlessly and connects to my phone almost instantaneously. Before I installed my aftermarket speakers, this stereo by itself, actually massively improved the overall quality of my sound system. Definitely recommend this product.

Decent sound for the price. Bluetooth connection is solid and metadata is displayed correctly. Vast array of audio settings that mostly seem to cancel one another out. Settings menu is a pain to navigate, why isn't it Bluetooth-configurable? Unit looks a little garish and is not very pretty. Product quality generally feels, uh, value-engineered. None of the above is a showstopper considering the price. The one real problem is the display, which is terrible. Low readability? Check. Reflects glare? Check. Skinny old-school low-light illegible 8-segment character matrix? Check. Non-customizable layout? Check. Faux-equalizer animation and random pulsating button colors? Check and check (the latter can be turned off though). If you don't mind a mini-80's boombox sticking out of your dash, this unit will deliver good Bluetooth functionality and a noticeable but not dramatic sound improvement over your factory unit's at a reasonable price. All necessary adapters, kits, etc. were included. Installation was pretty simple.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall I really like this head unit. The smaller size makes fitting it in a Miata easy. The sound is crisp, the antenna reception is great, and the digital input options are just what I wanted. I love the volume knob instead of the stupid buttons most cars seem to have these days. Down sides - the radio preset buttons are tiny. The menus are confusing to me. I spent a lot of time going back and forth to get to the settings I wanted. Lastly, there is not a ton of power. With the top down, I am often at the last 5 "clicks" of the volume knob. I can crank it to 25 and the sound stays clear with no distortion, so that it great. But for an open top car, you may want to consider a higher powered unit, or adding amp(s). The downside with amps is that the Miata doesn't have a ton of space, so I am not sure I want to mess with it. I'm really happy with the purchase!

Pros: Crisp sound even at max volume, pre-outs for three amps, smaller than a traditional CD player which is great for Miatas.

Cons: Menus are a bit confusing. Could maybe use a little more power for convertible applications.

We have an older Suburban that is still humming along and wanted to update a couple things including the tunes. I didn't want to spend a lot and was really just looking for Bluetooth functionality, as we use Pandora and Prime for all our music. I haven't installed a car stereo since my 20's (I'm 60). Back then you had to spend serious money for a decent "deck". I selected this JVC unit based on the price point and reviews. I got the corresponding "free" dash kit and bought the pre-wired Ready Harness. I'm a very handy guy with a well equipped garage, but the thought tearing into the dash and ultimatly pulling off door panels was a little intimidating....... until I read the vehicle specific install guide that Crutchfield provided. Honestly, it was a one beer piece of cake and the result was way better than I expected. Clean crisp sound and simple to adjust and use. The bluetooth pairs up every time and the phone feature works great! It checked all my boxes.

Pros: Great Sound Easy to Adjust Settings Looks Great

Nice Deck, I love that there is no moving parts in it! The USB is easy to access and I like that there is a door covering it. The Aux is easy to find, the bluetooth pairs fast and works flawlessly. The EQ is a bit over the top I think, maybe I am just used to old decks with bass, mid, treble? It would be nice if the EQ had a graphical representation you could look at while adjusting cos each band is a separate screen so it takes a bit to tweak. I like my EQ to be setup by me, but there is presets as well. The radio is VERY CLEAR and CRISP (I mean who listens to FM radio, but hey we do sometimes) - it is pretty powerful too. I get killer reception in places I didn't with stock decks. The memory is easy to program as well. The Hands Free calling is really nice, I use it frequently and most people can hear me clearly. Over all I am very happy with this deck, the options are a bit overwhelming at first and the manual is thick but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this unit to friends and family My only gripe is that it doesn't come with a face case.

Pros: Shallow Mounting Depth Lots of Options EQ for fine tuning sound Solid Bluetooth

    Cons: settings menu is complex

Dancing lights in your face while you drive ?!?!?!

Chris from Fredericksburg, VA on 5/15/2017

This unit has so many great features! It's compact so it's easy to install. The sound is terrific. Plenty of EQ options and customization. 3 RCA pairs out which is great. One HUGE downside. When you select AUX or FM, the unit doesn't care what color choice you have made for you button colors. It will change colors with the beat of the music. There is NO menu option to turn this off. SERIOUSLY! It's like an awful dance party in my face while I'm driving. My radio sits very high on my dash and it's a serious distraction. JVC, please provide a firmware update that allows the user to have solid color button display when using FM or AUX. This is the only negative for this unit but it is a major one in my opinion.

    Pros: Sound. Size. Outputs. Customization.

Cons: Button colors dancing on FM and AUX

I am pleasantly surprised by this economical media player. This is the first radio I have installed in 20 years when I was in college and I am amazed at how far technology has come. Crutchfield still makes it easy with the included adapters and wire harnesses. This radio was installed in an old Cherokee. I was so glad to find a car stereo without a CD player because I can't tell you the last time I have used one. I have two new cars and I don't even know if the CD players work in them - never stuck one in to try it. AM/FM reception is really good. I can get stations I haven't been able to pick up with the factory stereos in any of my cars. It picks up the station text with ease. I have used it with a USB drive and Bluetooth and found sound quality to be amazing. Tons of customizing tricks with the built in EQ. 3 sets of RCA outputs for amplifiers which I intend on using when I add a sub to my system. I probably should have opted for the SiriusXM module but I'm already paying for two car subscriptions and don't want a 3rd. It took a couple tries to get my phone to link up with the JVC. Once linked, the phone sound was great and my caller was able to hear me just fine driving down the interstate with the windows down. The mic was able to filter out most of the road noise for my caller.

Pros: Small size, packed with features, lots of EQ customization, USB input, Bluetooth

Cons: small buttons, backlighting won't dim with dash lights,

This unit is absolutely amazing at this price point. After reading all the reviews, I decided to order the JVC KD-X340BTS for my 2000 Silverado. I had recently installed new speakers to replace the 17 year old factory stock speakers. The speakers did improve the sound somewhat with the factory stock head unit, but still didn't sound great. I decided to replace the head unit with the JVC and WOW!!! What a difference!!! This was money well-spent. The speakers now sound full and rich at all levels. Install was pretty easy with the included install kit and the unit seems well-made. I did call tech support for a couple of minor questions before the install and Charles was very knowledgeable and helpful. The unit has tons of features. The Bluetooth pairing is really good, but can take 30-45 seconds to link up. Works great with my iPhone 6 with hands-free and Siri control. The best part is the ability to customize the sound--Bass Boost really pulls out the bottom end from the speakers and Loudness helps to keep the sound rich and full at lower volumes. You have several options for EQ including a full graphic EQ and you can even match the unit to the size of the speakers in front and rear locations. I saw some reviews where people said that the display isn't bright enough, but I haven't had that problem--the display is bright and easy to read even in bright sunlight. So far, I am completely satisfied with this purchase.

Pros: Great sound, great features, bright display, great price.

Cons: None so far. Completely satisfied.

Good media player. No more CDs! I hated packing around CDs or deciding what CD to take before leaving the house. This unit allows me to listen to all my music on my phone. Can use the aux port, USB port, or bluetooth. The bluetooth stopped working two days after installing. Crutchfield replaced the unit quickly and with no hassles. Second unit has been in for a week. Hopefully the bluetooth doesn't fail again. Lots of features; audio settings, user defined or preset equalizer, custom-color lighting, day/night settings, adjustable dimmer, phone capability with mic and long lead, AM/FM, Pandora, iHeart, Sirius capable. Good power as a stand-alone head unit. I still plan on adding a 5 channel amp, but alone this unit can get loud. It also has 6 pre-amp outlets. Plenty of room for expansion. Volume knob is a bit narrow and difficult to grip making it cumbersome to adjust volume on bumpy roads.

Pros: Good Power Lots of Features Versatile Media Friendly

Cons: Blue Tooth Failed; Had to Replace Unit Narrow Volume Knob

I bought it because I previously purchased a JVC KD-X33MBS digital media player for another car and loved it. This unit has It has even more features; more than I know what to do with, but I'm figuring them out. My only concern is what another reviewer stated about sound and heat. I am not running an amp (yet) and I have noticed that if I play music at a higher level the sound starts to degrade after awhile. Just today I noticed the sound degrading after about 30 minutes and when I removed the faceplate, the faceplate and the unit were hot. Something I've never experienced with a car stereo. I am guessing that it is because the internal amp is working too hard to drive my speakers (aftermarket 45W rms) and overheating. I plan on adding an amp shortly so the unit's amp only has to drive one pair of speakers. Hopefully this will solve the sound and heat issues. It is in our family van so we tried the Streaming DJ feature with my kids. They had a bit trouble connecting and it seemed to work for a time after they did connect. After a short time it stopped connecting to all BT devices and it kicked out a H/W Error code when selecting the BT function. I wouldn't clear even when turned off. The manual says to reset the unit which I did after letting it sit for a few hours. The BT devices connected and there were no further issues. My kids were able to take turns playing their music. Kinda cool feature. Just hope the H/W error was a one time deal.

Pros: Tons of features Decent power Great Bluetooth connectivity

Cons: Sound degradation Excessive heat from unit after about 30 minutes Streaming DJ feature a bit buggy

Unlike my previous JVC player or my stock ford player I am very dissatisfied with the way the random feature works on this particular player. When using USB the "Random" feature simply creates a random play list but every time you turn on the car (or player) it reverts back to the first song on the play list. As an example if you listen to music on your way to work you will hear the same songs on the way home and every time you turn on the player.

Pros: great sound, good features and excellent price.

Cons: Random feature when using USB

I'm very pleased with the unit and with my first Crutchfield purchase. The radio worked perfectly right out of the box. The instruction manual is accurate. Blue tooth phone connection is excellent. I drive almost an hour to work each way. I use the drive time to catch up on phone calls, both business and personal. The mic seems to work great. People can hear me very well even though I'm in a work truck with a lot of road noise. So far I have not connected my iPod or set up my iHeart station, but everything else is great, so I anticipate that these will be perfect too. As for the Crutchfield experience, every single piece that I needed was included. This was my first radio install ever. I watched several different youtube videos demonstrating the process. When the order arrived, every single thing I needed was right there, just as the youtubes described. So the install could not have been easier. And by the way, the order arrived second day even though I did not ask for it. What great service. I have to say if I ever have to do this again I'll go right back to Crutchfield.

Pros: everything fit, everything worked, right out of the box. Every single item I needed was there waiting for me.

    Cons: None so far.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The JVC KD-X340BTS is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 3.0, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile) & PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) & AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC KD-X340BTS. Checkhere for the latest Bluetooth compatibility information.

Multi-Device Pairing w/ Dual Phone Connection: You can pair up to ten Bluetooth-enabled devices to the JVC head unit, with a maximum of two Bluetooth phones and one Bluetooth audio device connected at one time, making it easier to switch between devices. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units.

    • Secure Simple Pairing (SSP): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the JVC KD-X340BTS without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings.
    • Auto Pairing (via USB):  You can even pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5+) or Android smartphone (running JVC Music Play App) by simply connecting it to the JVC head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. And thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the KD-X340BTS provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The controls of the KD-X340BTS can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (with mounting bracket) featuring adjustable gain, so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering A Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call immediately or after 1-30 seconds. The KD-X340BTS also supports the Call Waiting function, so you can answer another incoming call while suspending the current call you are on. Your compatible cell-phone must also support this feature.
    • Dialing A Number: Using the KD-X340BTS, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Enter Phone #: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's front-panel rotary dial.
      • Preset Dialing: You can store up to 6 contacts in the memory of this unit for speed dialing.
      • Phone Book: You can download phone book data from your mobile phone to the digital media receiver. You can then dial a contact within the phonebook from the head unit's front-panel controls. Your phonebook can be searched alphabetically or numerically.
      • Call History: The Call History is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls.
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone once you have activated the voice dialing function from the head unit's front-panel.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The JVC KD-X340BTS supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or audio player, plus song/artist information display. You are able to stream your stored music library on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, as well as music apps downloaded on your smartphone to the JVC KD-X340BTS for playback.

    • SBC + AAC Codecs: In addition to support for the standard SBC Bluetooth audio codec, the KD-X340BTS offers support of AAC.  By supporting AAC, the KD-X340BTS offers better audio performance of the music streamed from your Apple iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
    • Advanced Music Browsing: In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the KD-X340BTS lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4 phones only; which includes Android 4.0+ and iPhone 5.0+).
    • Song/Artist Information: The head unit will also display your stored music and music app's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (not compatible with all apps).
Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired to an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth, the JVC KD-X340BTS has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel control and external microphone. Simply press the "phone command" button on the KD-X340BTS to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the head unit and its microphone. You can even ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Bluetooth; the head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the KD-X340BTS; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

    iPhone & Android Integration

Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0) Connectivity:  The JVC KD-X340BTS's front- or rear-panel USB port lets you connect your AOA 2.0 compatible Android smartphone for music playback. JVC does not guarantee operation with all Android devices. Clickhere for the most current list of compatible Android smartphones. There are two Android AOA 2.0 modes to choose from based on what content you want to listen to and how you want to control it.

    • Auto Mode: The JVC KD-X340BTS supports Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), which lets  you connect your Android  (OS 4.1+) smartphone to the KD-X340BTS's front- or rear-panel USB port and listen to stored music and music apps from your Android device through the JVC head unit. You'll be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. Other advanced music navigation will still be done from your Android smartphone's touchscreen. In this mode, the head unit will not display song/artist information; only "Audio Mode" will show up on display. You'll continue to view song/artist information from the Android device's touchscreen. You'll also still be able to access other functions and applications from your Android smartphone's touchscreen, while listening to music through the head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
    • JVC Music Play App: Downloading the JVC Music Play app onto your Android (OS 4.1+) smartphone not only allows you to listen to stored music from your Android device through the JVC digital media receiver connected via USB, but it also lets you browse your Android smartphone's music library from the head unit's front-panel controls. You can browse your store music library by Playlist, Artist, Song, Album, or Genre. The contents of a Playlist or Category can be searched alphabetically or numerically. You can also control Play/Pause and Previous/Next track from the head unit. In addition, the head unit will display song/artist information. You can exit the JVC Music Play app to access other functions and applications of your Android smartphone, while your stored music library is still playing through your head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
Note: JVC does not guarantee operation with all Android devices.

iPhone Direct Connection: The JVC KD-X340BTS's front- or rear-panel USB port can be used to connect a Lightning-connector or 30-pin dock connector iPod/iPhone to the head unit (see chart below for compatibility). The KD-X340BTS supports audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of your compatible Apple device. If you have a newer iPod/iPhone with the Lightning-connector, you can use JVC's Lightning connector-to-USB cable (105KSU62, sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the KD-X340BTS. If you have an older iPod/iPhone with a 30-pin dock connector, you can will need to use the dock connector-to-USB cable that comes with your Apple device or a "Made For iPod/iPhone" 30-pin-to-USB cable (sold separately) to connect your iPod/iPhone to the KD-X340BTS.

    • Head Unit Control: From the head unit's front-panel controls you can search for stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, and Composer. The contents of a Playlist or Category can be searched alphabetically or numerically. The KD-X340BTS also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of stored music on your iPod/iPhone. In addition, you'll be able to control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) from stored music and select music apps streamed to your Apple iPod/iPhone. You can also choose to control your Apple device from its own touchscreen, instead of the head unit.
    • Song/Artist Info: The KD-X340BTS will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information such as Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album title.
Note: See chart below for compatible Apple iPod, iPhone, & iPad models.

USB Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1.5A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone or Android smartphone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your iPod/iPhone or Android smartphone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-X340BTS utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The JVC KD-X340BTS is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KD-X340BTS are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amp Gain: When you are using the KD-X340BTS with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 25 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 35.

4V/6CH Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The KD-X340BTS is equipped with three pair of 4V preamp outputs (Front, Rear, & Sub). The Front & Rear preamp outputs offer fade control, while the Sub outputs are non-fading. The Sub preamp outputs also offer independent level control (-50 to +10).

Subwoofer Speaker Connection: You can connect a subwoofer to this head unit without the need of a separate power amplifier. Simply connect a single subwoofer (4-8 ohm) directly to head unit's left rear speaker leads (the right rear speaker output will be muted). The rated power output for the subwoofer speaker channel remains 22 watts. Same subwoofer controls apply, except the, subwoofer level adjustment is from -6 to+3.

Vehicle Setup: In order to optimize the sound quality in your vehicle, you can indentify the type of vehicle you have and the rear speaker location, as well as configure listening distances.

    • Car Type: Select your car type to automatically set the delay time of each speaker for timing adjustment of sound output of each channel to have the highest surround effect. Choose from Compact, Full Size Car, Wagon, Mini Van, SUV, or Off
    • Rear Speaker Location: You can indicate the location of your vehicle's Rear speakers. Choose from Door, Rear Deck, 2nd Row, or 3rd Row.
