The Polk Audio Omni S2 wireless speaker is an easy way to add music to any room. It comes with two removable grilles in black and white.
Imagine your favorite song following you from room to room. Or every member of your family playing their own favorite song in every bedroom. That's the beauty of the Polk Audio Omni whole-house music system. The Omni S2 compact wireless speaker is an ideal place to start, by adding music to one or more rooms. The S2 is easily set up and controlled via Wi-Fi® with your smartphone or tablet. Adding speakers is as simple as plugging them in and tapping a few buttons. In just minutes, you can have music playing throughout your house, without running a single wire except plugging them into a power outlet.
The Omni S2 offers lots of ways to listen to music. The free Polk Omni app for Apple® and Android™ is your hub for accessing music stored on your smartphone or tablet. You can also stream music from networked computers and music servers. If you're one of the millions of Spotify® Premium subscribers, Spotify Connect lets you access all your favorite albums and playlists. There's built-in support for Pandora® Internet radio and SiriusXM. Plus, you can choose from over 37,000 free Internet radio streams, for a nearly endless supply of music and other programming.
The key to the Omni S2's wireless music capability is Play-Fi. Developed by audio innovator DTS, Play-Fi allows you to play the same song through multiple speakers, play a different song in every room, or let each member of the family control speakers independently with their own device. Play-Fi can transmit lossless audio at CD quality to up to 16 speakers or components on your network. Best of all, the Polk Omni S2 can work with other Play-Fi speakers from other manufacturers. That means you can mix and match different brands of wireless speakers, offering more flexibility than closed systems.
Polk Audio speakers have long been favorites with our customers, as well as our employees. The Omni S2's sound is just what we've come to expect from Polk — smooth, clear, and well-balanced, with tight bass that doesn't overwhelm and detailed high frequencies that don't pierce your ears. Just what you need to turn a day of doing chores around the house into a music-charged pleasure.

Great sound from a compact size and compact price. Can be placed anywhere using play-fi, which can be difficult to set up.
Great price and superb sound, including excellent stereo separation and depth, and strong, smooth bass. Wi-Fi setup was relatively easy, with the help of the Polk Omni and the Polk Omni Utility apps for the iPad. Great selection of Internet radio stations available with the Polk Omni app. The connection with Wi-Fi is rock-solid, unlike Bluetooth speakers that can be spotty. It's even supplied with easy-to-change white and gray covers. Another first-rate Polk product!
Pros: Great price and superb sound, including excellent stereo separation and depth, and strong bass.
Cons: It would nice if this model could run on batteries, even for just a few minutes. Since it has to be unplugged when moved, it must be restarted each time and its connection with Wi-Fi re-established (although it does this fairly quickly).
Great sound! Solid response across the frequency spectrum, surprising low ends given the size. Set 4 of these up in my parents condo, and they love them.
DTS play-fi is a completely awful piece of software. The speaker is entirely dependent on it and it simply doesn't work reliably; every night you use it it's different, just like the Moon. What Policy Polk doesn't take the software seriously.
Pros: Looks good
Cons: DTS Play-Fi software. Polk telephone support wasn't able to help me
I am pleased with the sound. But, I am not a sound expert and I don't have another wireless speaker for a comparison. I agree with some of the other reviews that say there is a little to much base. I am considering more of these speakers for other rooms in my house.
Pros: Easy to setup.
Cons: A little to much base.
Got them on sale, would not have paid full price- but am happy with them. Bought one for the kitchen and one for the bedroom and may buy one or two more if they go on sale again. As others have noted, bass is exceptional for the price and size, but have noticed that dialogue can be pretty muddy sometimes because of it. App installation and setup was simple on 2 iPhones, though do get some stuttering at certain times and with the speakers in certain spots in the house- admittedly that may also be because wifi network was only on g (upgrading to ac now), which should help both signal speed and range. Other times it works flawlessly.
Pros: Simple, easy to use and set up, good bass response
Cons: App is a little limiting, not cleanest sound.
I ordered one of these thinking that it would be a reasonable speaker to play music from my smartphone in my bedroom. Was so impressed with the very full sound that it produced that I ordered another one to pair as a stereo set in my room. Matching them to produce stereo sound was made very easy with the software. They advertise that you can add more and more of these speakers to create all manner of quality sound. So far so good with me. These things are more like bookshelf speakers than they are smartphone speakers. It is amazing the quality of sound that two 2 inch drivers can produce. After I got the pair in my bedroom set up, I decided to order another one for my workshop. Again, these things produce some incredible sound.
Pros: The incredible sound and reasonably small size. The sale price made them very affordable for what you get.
Cons: You have to use their proprietary software to access your music. That means that you cannot use them to watch movies from the IPad. Just wish that I could pair them to the IPad to be used for other applications.
I bought 3 of these as well as the S6 and the def tec Soundbar. They were all very easy to setup and use (even using and connecting to other speaker brands using playfi. The only criticism I have is that the s2 is a little bass heavy and muffles the some vocals a bit at low volumes. It's not the case at louder volumes. All in all I'm happy with them especially at the price.
Pros: Easy to set up, good value (quality for the price)
Cons: Bass heavy at low volumes
Price: Crutchfield's price is way too expensive. You might as well pay a little more and get the Sonos Play 1 speaker. Caveat- I bought this on a summer sale and still do not thing it is worth it (see below). Performance: HARDWARE- The speaker itself seems pretty good. I have the latest firmware version installed as of Sept. 8th, 2015. I have it paired with another Omni S2 and the Omni SB (soundbar). I use it as a music system on one level of my home. Soundbar in Family Room, an S2 in the dining room, and an S2 in the kitchen. Sometimes one speaker will lag behind the other and the music is playing at different points. (not a Wi-Fi issue- I get 60 MBps at this location in the house). The speakers also move if the volume is above a medium level (the rubber bottoms do not keep them in place). I have one vertical and one horizontal and they will slide along the floor or counter if above a medium volume (tripping hazard anyone?) SOFTWARE- The app is horrible. The iPhone app is awful. It crashes and is always reconnecting. The music you can use is limited. Spotify only works if you are a Paid Spotify user ("Spotify Premium"). The free version does work with PC. The Play-Fi PC app is annoying. They Do Not support YouTube. So you can't look up specific songs and play them, etc. This whole system would be better if it worked more seamlessly and flawlessly. Get more support and synchronization. Support YouTube. And consider developing a multi-room system with Bluetooth as well. Dont Buy
Pros: Good Sound "loss-less sound" "high-fidelity" blah blah blah. Just get bluetooth speakers.
Cons: Too Expensive Glitchy App and Not User Friendly Linked speakers Lag behind one another NO Bluetooth
First of all. I am a Polk-a-file. As in a Polk audio fan, not the celebratory dance of Bavarians fan. The sound from this small speaker is amazing, as one could expect. The lows are extremely satisfying, and the full range is very good. The only thing that prevented me from giving the 5th start is the connectivity with Play Fi. My Android device has no roblem day-to-day connecting when I ask it to. My iPad, however, connected once after about 3 failed attempts, then decided that it didn't want to play anymore. My wife's iPhone never did connect. The annoyance here is that if I am away from home, and my wife usually lets me take my phone, she has no way to connect to the Omni. I am going to call the excellent support staff at Crutchfield when I get a few spare moments to discuss and see what I am missing. The setup should be nearly as simple as a Bluetooth device, with much fuller detailed sound.
Pros: Full rich sound as expected from Polk. Very stable and solid unit.
Cons: Connectivity is dodgey.
Based on reasonable reviews, the price, and Polk's reputation, I took a chance on the Omni S2. I'm keeping it since it works for what I need, but I could be happier with it. My primary complaint is the low end: it's just not balanced well and there's no way to EQ it down. (I hope Polk will add an equalizer to the app at some point for the S2, but I don't have my hopes up... That would solve the problem for me.) Don't get me wrong, I love *good* bass. I have a Polk DSW Pro 600 subwoofer with my home theater, and I wouldn't turn it down for anyone, but the levels are set properly on it. I wish I could do the same with the S2. It's still listenable/usable, just not as enjoyable as it could be. On a positive note, Polk clearly put some work into making sure this thing had some power for its size; it's got more headroom than I expected. Some rumors: I've heard they're working on adding Spotify to the app, which would be very welcome. Also, upon registering, I was able to get an extra year on my warranty. Not bad. I don't believe this is a terrible product, and it doesn't warrant a 1-star review, I just hope the sound can be improved.
Pros: Lots of power for a little speaker App works fine on my iPad 2 Easy access to a large list of internet radio stations Polk seems to be doing updates to the app now & then, which gives me hope that they'll continue improving and adding to it Direct audio output from all sources via Windows
Cons: Dat Bass No OSX support
I did a considerable amount of research before I purchased two Polk Omni S2 speakers. I was aware that the Polk iPad/iPhone app was missing some features, such as Spotify integration. I purchased them when they were on sale. For the size of the speakers they sounded great!! However, these are Wi-Fi speakers and the functionality of the speakers is TOTALLY dependent upon the app. First there is NO app for the Mac. You have to use a media server such as Plex. The iPad/iPhone app is poorly designed, lacks functionality, is unreliable and the interface is amateurish at best. It does not integrate with the TuneIn radio app. The included radio functionality is not the least bit user-friendly and would constantly drop the connection. I could only get the Polk app on my iPhone/iPad to recognize the Plex media server on my Mac once even though other Plex clients could find it immediately from the same location in the house. After a month frustration I returned the speakers. Crutchfield's customer service was first class all the way. I exchanged the Polk Omni S2 speakers for the Sonos Play:1 speakers. The Play:1s sound great and more importantly the app the light-years ahead of the Polk app. The Sonos app is easy to use, has rock-solid reliability and there is an app for the Mac that acts as an audio media server. Sonos fully understands that Wi-Fi speakers are all about the app. Polk does not.
Pros: Great sound. Look good.
Cons: Lacks Spotify and TuneIn integration. The iPad/iPhone app is poorly designed, lacks functionality, is unreliable and the interface is amateurish at best. Polk does not understand that Wi-Fi speakers are all about the app. Great sounding speakers are TOTALLY useless with a really bad app.
I like the speaker and it worked Well the first few days but now the wifi is not connecting and we cannot play music from our phones. The wifi on phones and computer are strong so not sure what the deal is. Overall easy buying process and site has nice interface, etc. Thanks.
Cons:Crutchfield response on 2/23/2015 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
The Polk Omni S2 delivers top notch sound quality. Installed an S2 in our bedroom and it works like a charm! Since the speaker is on a different floor than the wifi router, the signal strength wasn't the best. Installed a wifi signal extender and the issue was resolved. The speaker is built well and it definitely adds some flavor to the room decor :) As a bonus, you could swap between the black and white grills to suite your room decor! The Polk Omni app makes the S2 very easy to use. The sale price at Crutchfield was great and the customer/technical service has always been commendable! I would highly recommend the S2 to anyone who loves music!
Pros: Sleek design, excellent sound quality, easy installation
Cons: Might need a wifi signal extender
Who says good things don't come in small packages? I'm so impressed with the sound quality and ease of use of this speaker. It really sounds wonderful with a full range of sound from deep base to high treble and everything in between. But the real beauty is the portability and set-up. All you have to do is plug it in and make the wireless connection with your iPad/iPhone (or other mobile device) and you're good to go! I'll be buying several more so I can cover my whole house. Very impressed!
Pros: Sound quality. Ease of set-up and use.
As we just moved to an 1880 home, having an alternative to hardwiring speaker wire through 18 inch stone walls was priceless! Speaker sound quality does not disappoint with excellent highs and lows. Notable greater depth of sound with 2 speakers placed in a room than 1. Mid December we purchased with an Omni P1 so that we could interface with our existing receiver, hardwired speakers. Took a little setup time, but Crutchfield Tech support-Mike- went above and beyond to coach us through! Thanks Mike!! Only disappointment was that wireless speakers are not able to connect to the CD player.....but I am informed that Polk is working on an upgrade to correct this.
Pros: Ease of multi room audio set up. Great sound quality. Discreet speaker size. Greater versatility with any Play Fi compatible speaker.
Cons: Occassional wifi signal loss, a couple of times we've had to unplug speakers to reboot as volume control does not function
My review is based on using the product with the following devices - Apple iOS (iPhone 6) and Android - Sony Xperia. Let me go ahead and say that the speaker itself sounds great and pretty much everything you would expect from Polk. If I were rating the device strictly on the sound or using it with internet radio or a service it supports such as Pandora I would have given the product a 4.5. Here is where I think the device fails. It was my understanding that "Play-Fi" was supposed to be Androids answer to Air Play. Based off that when my wife asked for a device that she could stream her downloaded music from her Android phone I thought that this would be the perfect fit. It would have been if she used any other service other than Google Play?!? As it turns out Google Play does such a fabulous job of hiding the music that the Polk Omni can not find her music even if she has it downloaded to her phone. It does detect the Sony walkman music app. It can also detect our NAS storage device where I have all our music but unfortunately all of her play lists are set up with Google Play. I thought I would keep it for my iPhone but as it turns out it can't stream from iTunes (unless the music is downloaded to your phone) I thought I could use it to stream from my NAS but unfortunately iPhones do not support DLNA. I now have a good speaker that I am only streaming internet radio...I had to go out and buy a Bose Bluetooth to save Christmas
Pros: Great concept that could be a great application for some
Cons: Play-FI is not quite the Air Play killer that the internet claims for it to be. Especially when it comes to streaming Google Play Music. That could limit your options if you plan on using the device to stream music from your phone.
I was looking for a compact speaker with a big sound, that I could move to any room...and this speaker didn't disappoint! This speaker is easy to set-up, plays Pandora or any of the mobile, wireless music apps, and delivers quality audio. For a speaker so small, it really handles the full spectrum of the audio, including the lows...and extremely crisp highs! I've bought Polk's before, so I was already a fan - this platform isn't going anywhere anytime soon!
Pros: compact, portable, great sound in a small package
Cons: Slightly longer power cord would have been nice
I became a fan of Polk a little over a year ago and have purchased quite a few of the brand's products for myself, family and friends - especially the headphones and desktop speakers. For me, Polk is all about the amazing sound quality. So when I decided to invest in a wireless music system, I immediately looked to the brand yet again. The S2 is the perfect speaker and a great buy to kick off my collection. It's an ideal size for my house, and I can easily bring it from room to room. The set up was very easy and, most importantly, the sound is fantastic - crisp, clear and powerful. I'm excited to eventually have access to more streaming services, but the app is pretty easy to use, For the price, this is a wonderful purchase.
Pros: Amazing sound; easy set up; functionality - perfect to use in any room of the home; price
I just purchased the Omni S2 and frankly it has a punch for such a small speaker. I purchased it in hopes of expanding the system throughout my home. This is a very unique idea and with updates on software I don't see play-fi going anywhere. The sound of the speaker is strong and clear and can get loud (while still understanding the vocals). I think I made a sound purchase, no pun intended.
Pros: Sound, Set up, application interface, size, customized speaker grille
I'm tired of dealing with the inferior products from household names or marketing gimmicks and demand superior sound. I've always seen the Polk brand but now that I own one I cant imagine another brand. This unit arrive packaged perfect, was a simple set up and plays every format. I didnt know such a small unit could deliver such amazing bass and sound. This is awesome for my workout room and keeps me motivated to go longer and faster. Im adding another to my bathroom since my uniden and bose products both failed in less that 9 months. Thank you Polk for caring about sound and performance and not just the next gimmick.
Pros: Ease of use Sound Flexibilty Functional with iphone and wifeys galaxy. Pandora never sounded better
Absolutely love this Omni speaker from Polk. So easy to link to my ipad. Incredible how much sound fills the room. The wireless connection is flawless and the sound quality is terrific. I will have more of these in my house as I love the idea of being able to drive different music to different rooms in the house from my ipad!
Pros: easy connection, room filling sound, easy app
I love technology... it can solve so many issues. I love having high quality sound in my home. I love being able to have the songs come straight from my phone to my speakers....and no running wires through the house. This is an awesome product that way. Legitimately... you could purchase one of these for each room in your home, and completely set them up and working without running any cables (except the power cables) in less than an hour. It takes the professional home audio install professional out of the equation. That being said, I'm hooked. I've always loved Polk's audio quality, top of the line at reasonable prices... but to now have the convenience of that audio to run through their app... too cool. I'm also a fan of the different colored grills that come with it and the setup angles... makes it versatile for setting it up in different rooms. If you're looking for a wireless solution to home audio, this is a great product.
Pros: Ease of setup Quality of sound The app works swimmingly - great functionality No batteries means I can leave it plugged in and on all the time, no walking around turning things on, just get home, kick on the app and push play. Different colored grills included make it versatile in appearance for different rooms
Cons: I want one for every single room in my house now. Probably not the bathroom.... but maybe....
I am very impressed and pleased with the quality of these speakers. Not only is the sound rich, full, and room-filling, but the technology that is used to control the speakers is outstanding. The Polk Omni application that is used to set up the audio connection between your phone, speakers, and wireless network is extremely easy to use. The total time spent during set up was around five minutes, which included the download time of the app itself onto my Android phone. Once set up, I have spent a lot of time and had a lot of enjoyment controlling these speakers with the touch of a finger to my phone, as it seems almost futuristic to be able to do so. The Omni app also has plenty of options for which type of audio I want to hear, whether it is music that I already have on my phone or a channel that I like from Pandora. Most impressively, I've really enjoyed the option to search out terrestrial radio stations from throughout the world, as I have easily been able to find and listen to the radio stations that I grew up hearing in the Midwest. The app also has an option to seek out internet based podcasts as well. The absence of multiple wires and compact size is a huge benefit in my book, as extra space in my home is hard to come by. There is no extra clutter with multiple wires when I have the speakers set up in my office, which reduces the time spent when I choose to move the speakers to another area of my home. Lastly, the speakers come set up with a black grill
Pros: 1. Use of wireless technology 2. Rich sound 3. Size and portability 4. Physical look
I absolutely love this speaker. It was so easy to setup and sounds amazing
Pros: Easy Setup, great quality sound and very nice looking
Cons: Not enough sizes. I would like to see some larger speaker size options
Omni S2 Active Wireless Speaker: The Omni S2 is a compact wireless speaker that lets you put Polk's widely respected signature sound in any room of your home or office. The Polk Audio Omni S2 uses two 2" full-range drivers powered by a two-channel Class D amplifier, while the two 2" passive radiators create a fuller bass response. The Polk Audio Omni S2 includes two cloth grilles (black or white) which are interchangeable. The black cloth grille comes pre-installed.
Omni Series: The Omni S2 is part of Polk Audio's Omni Collection, a series of wireless products that allow you to control what you want to listen to from your smartphone, tablet, or computer and stream it wirelessly to any room. You can start with one Omni series wireless product and then add more throughout your home or office.
Note: Up to 16 Omni series and/or Play-Fi enabled products can be combined in one multiroom system.
DTS Play-Fi Wireless Technology: Polk Audio's Omni series collection of wireless speakers employ DTS Play-Fi wireless technology for wireless sound that is reliable and high-quality. DTS Play-Fi combines DTS audio and WiFi (802.11 g/n; 2.4/5.0GHz) wireless technology to wirelessly stream high-definition "lossless" audio with no impact on sound quality. DTS Play-Fi will stream pure, bit-for-bit, lossless audio, for uncompromised quality sound; up to 16-bit/48kHz. DTS Play-Fi has a range of up to 100' from your wireless router.
Note: All DTS Play-Fi enabled products work seamlessly together, so there's no hassle adding more speakers, or choosing more than one audio brand (like Definitive Technology, Phorus, Wren, etc..) in your home.
Simple Setup: There are two methods for connecting the DTS Play-Fi speaker to your home network. You can perform WiFi setup via the Polk Omni App on your Apple iOS/Android mobile device or Windows PC (this setup allows you to connect multiple Play-Fi device at once to your network). You can also use the WPS button on the speaker if your wireless router supports WPS (this setup only allows you to connect one Play-Fi device at a time to your network).
Polk Omni App: Download the free Polk Omni App onto your Apple iOS (6.0+) device, Android (2.2+) smartphone/tablet, or Windows (7/8) PC for easy and convenient management of your music from your mobile device or computer. From the app you can initially set up the Omni wireless speaker system, as well as add, link, and control all your Omni and DTS Play-Fi speakers. You'll be able stream music directly from the system's built-in music online services, or music on your mobile device or PC to multiple Omni series and DTS Play-Fi enabled speakers through out your home. The app lets you browse your music by artist, album, genre, or title; and provides album art. You can choose to play the same music in each zone or a different song in each room.
Variety Of Sources: Polk Audio's Omni series wireless speaker collection supports a variety of music sources.
Supported Music Files: The Polk Audio Omni series wireless system and DTS Play-Fi support music formats such as MP3, AAC, FLAC, and WAV. The system will recognize music files up to 24-bit/192kHz and wirelessly stream these files at up to 16-bit/48kHz (CD quality sound). Some down-sampling may occur to ensure virtually lossless distribution throughout a home network.
Critical Listening Mode: For those who wish to hear high resolution audio as originally intended, Critical Listening mode will enable native rendering of high resolution files up to 24-bit/96kHz, with no down-sampling or network synchronization adjustment. In this way, audio files retain their original audio integrity. Critical Listening Mode is only available on one DTS Play-Fi speaker and not supported for multiroom audio distribution.
Maximum Number of Rooms/Zones Supported: You can play the same source in each zone or a different song in each room. Eight separate wireless source devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.), each with its own source, are supported simultaneously and any wireless source device can stream to eight DTS Play-Fi playback devices. Due to the bandwidth limitations of most wireless networks, no more than 16 wireless DTS Play-Fi products on a single WiFi network at one given time is recommended.
Stereo Pair: The Polk Omni app lets you link two Polk Omni S2 speakers together to create a stereo image with discrete left and right speakers. This is perfect for larger spaces or for the enthusiast who wants a stereo image. After you setup a stereo pair, the two Polk Omni S2 speakers will show up as one "Speaker" under the speaker tab of the Polk Omni app.
Wireless Surround: You can use a pair of the Polk Omni S2 wireless speakers as rear surround speakers for the Omni SB1 Plus soundbar speaker system. Simply update the speakers' firmware using the Polk Audio Utility app (for iOS & Android), followed by a single update to the DTS Play-Fi software using this same app. Once updated, setup is simple and can be completed in minutes. It is highly recommended that the wireless rear surround speakers be placed on the 5GHz band of a dual band AC router.
Aux Input: A 3.5mm auxiliary input lets you connect and play music from other audio sources, such as a portable CD player or MP3 player with an audio output or headphone output jack. This input can only be played back at the speaker location and cannot be used for a multiroom application.
Mounting Options: The Omni S2 can sit horizontally or vertically on a table-top.
AC Power Adapter: The Omni S2 operates off of standard household current using the included AC power adapter.
