Polk Audio RTi A7 Tower Speaker

Enjoy exceptional audio performance with Polk's RTi A7 tower speakers (shown in cherry)

Serious music listeners and home theater buffs alike will appreciate Polk's consistently popular RTi Series tower speakers. The RTi A7 offers top-notch sound quality, and its curved edges and real wood veneer give it a handsome, refined look.

A high-tech approach to accurate sound

This speaker's carefully designed drivers undergo laser testing to help identify and eliminate resonance points, ensuring smooth, accurate response. Its asymmetric cabinet helps it deliver rich, clear sound by combating vibration and increasing rigidity.

Polk's exclusive PowerPort® technology reduces noisy air turbulence and increases low-frequency output. You'll enjoy clear highs, rich bass, and open, natural-sounding midrange.

Additional high-end features

Two sets of gold-plated five-way binding posts let you biamp or biwire the RTi A7 for the best possible sound. An anti-diffraction grille helps it deliver a large, three-dimensional soundstage with pinpoint-accurate stereo imaging. Adjustable spikes provide stability on both carpeted and hardwood floors.

Complete your surround system

For best performance, pair the RTi A7 towers with our recommended center channel speaker: Polk CSi A6  and surround speakers: Polk RTi A3 or FXi A6.

Very musical, great for home theater.

Jim from Chattanooga, TN on 6/21/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very musical. Good imaging. Powered by Marantz SR5012 bi-amp. In theater 5.1 mode the volume can get thunderous with low distortion. Really improved realism on sound tracks. Set crossover to subwoofer at 60 HZ. A lower crossover allows a bigger, fuller sound. For orchestral music, these speakers sound great with no subwoofer.

Pros: Amazing upgrade from my 21 year old S8's

    Cons:

    Greate Sound

    Fantastic sounds.

Pros: An upgrade from my old Sony 2-Way speakers Easy setup, fantastic sounds. Hear the stereo separation audio with sounds that I never heard before (good thing). (My old speakers could not produce these sounds). Hunter gave excellent service and recommendations.

Cons: Slightly heavier than first thought and s little awkward to handle due to size.

Great treble, midrange, & bass, what more could you ask for!

Larry from Bluefield, WV on 6/14/2018

These speakers are replacing two 1970 vintage KLH Model 5 speakers which at that time were the best sounding ones around. They still sound good but I felt it was time for new ones, I figured there had to be a world of improvement in speaker quality in 48 years. I did some research, read a lot of reviews & decided on these speakers which were in my price range. There are no stores in my area to listen to different speakers but I knew I could return them in case I did't like their sound. When I unpacked them I was really impressed with the quality of these speakers, especially the cherry wood. When I fired them up I was blown away, highs, midrange, & base are superb. I like a lot of bass and after increasing the response on my Yamaha amp there is no need for a subwoofer in my opinion. I'm sure there are more expensive speakers which sound better but for this price range I don't think you can do better. I highly recommend these speakers.

    Pros: Great sound, impeccable workmanship.

Cons: None that I have found.

    Great value, Awesome sound

Steve from Harrisburg, PA on 6/9/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers at the beginning of April after a lot of research and reading many, many reviews. I have delayed writing this review to allow for a break-in period for the speakers. I use these speakers in a stereo configuration with a Harmon Kardon {HK3700) receiver and an Onkyo CD player. I listen to several genres of music but, primarily, Theater Pipe Organ through CDs and internet radio via Vtuner installed on the receiver. Thee speakers are hands down the best quality for the price. The craftsmanship of the cabinetry is superb. The sound is crystal clear and accurate and they continue to sound better as they age. With the addition of a Polk 10" subwoofer it brings the concert hall to my living room. I highly recommend these speakers.

Pros: Impeccable sound. Quality construction. Solid build. Gorgeous finish. Extraordinary value for the price.

    Cons: Absolutely none.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers sound great, however I bought a scratch & dent pair, and one of them came in a box that was extremely poorly packaged and one foot had completely broken off. I didn't want the hassle of sending back, so we kept them since most people wouldn't even notice. We are missing the deep bass sounds that will only be accomplished with a powered sub-woofer, which is next on our list :)

    Outstanding sound and looks

Andy from Corvallis, OR on 6/3/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just outstanding sound, and nice enough looking to fit in with an expensively furnished living room. When I bought these, the set included a subwoofer that I decided not to use because it was not needed with my system (which includes a really great 1980s Audio Control equalizer). Love them, love them. I bought them in 2008 and now ten years later I wouldn't think of replacing them.

Andrew from Boca Raton, FL on 5/19/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to upgrade my 5.1 Polk system in my den. They are a really nice upgrade from the book shelf speakers I was running at the front prior to this purchase. At the current price they are a great deal particularly after comparing them with much more expensive speakers from other companies. They have a significant bass response and the mids and high range are both clear. I'm hearing nuances that I haven't previously heard even with my larger family room system. I was concerned with all the reviews saying these speakers need a lot of power for them to be at their best. My Onkyo TX-NR676 is powering them and the rest of my system with ease. I've had these for a week now and if they get better after a break in period then I have something to look forward to as they sound great to me right out of the box. I'm listening to them as I write this and can't imagine how bi-aiming would improve them. Maybe I'll try that down the line but clearly I don't think that's necessary.

Pros: Great Sound Beautiful to look at Small foot print Great speaker for the money

    Cons: None

    Best around for the price.

Travis from Independence, MO on 5/14/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They sound great!!! Call me crazy but everyone was talking about the cherry version. I normally go all black but I took a chance and I'm glad I did. They look and sound great but I do think they could use more power. They sound better every day. (still breaking in) definitely able to hear more details compared to my old set. They are clear at high volumes. They don't sound strained. I tried them with all kinds of music and movies. All seems to sound really good. I'm glad I bought them. Paired them with the csi A6.

Pros: Look amazing, sound clear, pick up details

Cons: Could use an amp but doesn't require it.

NIEL from Santa Rosa, CA on 5/4/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Yes, the cherry is beautiful. These are the best speak's for my money. The imaging and separation of channels is outstanding. The sound detail is impressive. The mids are solid, with respectable bass. I'm running these from a NAD amp at 150wpc. It is a great fit, technically speaking. I had originally purchased the Polk S55's and exchanged them for the rti-a7s and NO REGRETS! These are superior in every way.

Pros: Sound, price point, fantastic imaging and detailed sound.

    Cons: ZERO!

I bought an Onkyo TX-RX810 from you (130 watts per channel) and then following your recommendation bought a set of 300 watt Polk Audio RTi A7s. This receiver does not move those speakers. I have to turn the volume up to 90% and the unit overheats; plus, Tech Support is only offered in English. It's too bad that my $150.00 mini stereo sounds better than a combination of Onkyo and Polk.

Pros: Deben escucharse bien con 250w en adelante. They should sound good with 250 watts of power or more.

Cons: No deben recomendarlas para equipos de menos de 200w por canal. Should not be recommended for receivers with less than 200 watts per channel of power.

    Excellent Value

CJ from Livonia, MI on 4/28/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This review is based upon my initial listening impressions with these speakers being new, out of the box and without the usual break-in process. I was impressed. They exhibited good overall response and it was obvious that with a judicial amount of break-in time they will preform very well or better than speakers within this price range or higher. The fit and finish is very good. I somewhat disagree that a high power (100-200 wpc) amplifier is required to obtain a good sound with these speakers. While there is nothing wrong with "big power" a good quality amp rated honestly will do the job quite well. I paired these speakers with an Adcom GFA 535II amp rated at 60wpc @ 8 ohms. These are real watts not the hyped-up numbers used by some manufacturers to lure in an unsuspecting consumer. The amp was paired with an OSD PRE-1 preamp, a budget, low output unit that is fairly well constructed for the price. Using the Polks along with the aforementioned amp/preamp combination filled a 15 X 20 foot basement listening room to satisfying levels. Are these speakers on par with my Martin Logan Quest Z's paired with 2 Aragon 8008 BB's and CJ Premier17LS? NO. But in the bang for your buck category coupled with the great Crutchfield service team you will be enjoying the RTi-7A's for years to come.

    Totally satisfied

MICHAEL from Colorado Spgs, CO on 4/25/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am totally satisfied with quality and price.. I upgraded from a pair of Epos M5 which blew out after 14 years of service. I was highly satisfied with the Epos, and I *think* that the Polk sound noticeably better. The speakers sound great to me, including a level of bass that I never had before (pedal tones on J.S. Bach organ works), and detail in the mid and high frequencies that I don't remember hearing before, and which I attribute to the good sensitivity. I bought them after a cross-country move, so I'm hearing them in a different room many weeks after the last audition of my Epos, so I can't make a careful comparison. I am driving the speakers with a Music Hall a15.3, which I have never turned up to full volume. I have no interest in home theater or seismic bass, but I listen to organ recordings at a volume simulating the experience in a huge church. My experience contradicts the claim that a powerful amplifier is required. The cherry cabinet is a bit darker than the photos suggest, but most such wood lightens with age. They are lovely, and completely soothed my wife's concerns about beauty, though she still objects to the large size. The weight and stability would be a problem if they had to be moved a lot, but I count them as a plus since my granddaughter is unlikely to knock them over when she starts walking and wreaking havoc. It has not occurred to the cat to scratch the grilles.

Pros: sound, price, beauty of cabinet, stability

    Cons: clumsy to move around

    I'm in music heaven

Andrew from Hyde Park, NY on 4/24/2018

The next best thing to being there. Using an old ONKYO at only 75W per channel, the RTi7's produced a beautiful, spacious sound stage, without artificially heavy bass, but with a solid bottom for orchestral music (Sibelius Symph. 5 was deep and thrilling). A tad bright for some bluegrass, but Tony Rice's guitar was gorgeous - heard detail lost to the muddy middle of my old speakers. Chamber, esp string quartets, is astonishing in the clear definition of each voice; like others, I suspect these speakers will improve and mellow with age - a bit bright for now, esp treble strings. Stones - great, Bill Evans Trio - even better. But I think these speakers - a bargain - are best with the human voice. An especially wonderful and rich sound presented Ella, Kurt Elling, Kathleen Battle, Donovan, Pete Seeger, Joni, and Lennon with warmth and intimacy. So much music, so little time; but I know it can't sound better. Other than live (maybe).

    Cons:

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have 2 sets of these awesome sounding towers in my 12 X 22 living room for stereo or home theater listening. The first set came in February 2018 which were connected to my Integra DTR 7.1 av amp and they sounded ok but lacked bass response. Incorporated my NAD 1130 preamp and an Adcom GFA 555 MK II 200 WPC power amplifier from back in the day and WOW!!! the RTI A-7 s sound superb. There is no shortage of bass from the two 7 in woofers, they reproduce tight accurate to deep house shaking bass . The tweeter and midrange on these speakers do the A7s a great justice in vocal and instrument reproduction. At first the speakers appear to be a little bright but after a 45 hour break-in period they sound great. I enjoy listen to a wide variety of music and am all out impressed with the RTI A7 speakers so much I bought a second pair at the end of March. The new speakers are for rear surround for my 5.1 set up or stereo . This set is fed by a NAD 1130 preamp and a n Adcom GFA 5500 200wpc power amp, they sound spectacular. FYI - having power amps doesn't mean you have to crank it all the time, your music will sound excellent at all volume levels including very low. Thank you to the knowledgeable and friendly Crutchfield sales and customer service support staff that helped me with my purchases.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers after a lot of research and reading the reviews. They replace a pair of Bose 201's and some small Yamaha bookshelf speakers. It was time to upgrade to a pair of floor standing speakers and I purchased these after evaluating them vs. a pair of Klipsch R-24F. Turned out to be a good choice for my almost-70 year old ears. I selected the scratch and dent option and saved a bundle. Yes, there were a couple nicks in the enclosures, but that does not affect their performance in any way. There was, however, a broken foot on one of the speakers, probably caused by UPS's rough handling. I called Crutchfield, supplied a picture, and was quickly sent a replacement after speaking with Tylaher. I use these speakers strictly in a stereo configuration for music as well as TV and Blu-Ray sound. They are matched perfectly with a Yamaha A-S301 integrated amp that I purchased from Crutchfield (thanks Brit!) along with an Onkyo C-7030 CD player, an Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB turntable and a 230W Onkyo sub. I listen to several different genres of music and only need to use the sub when I want some booming bass from classic rock. Most others sound great with the bass that these speakers produce. I highly recommend these speakers!

Pros: 1. Great performance at the price point. The cherry cabinets look old-school and way better than the black IMO. 2. Great sales & support staff at Crutchfield. I've started steering others away from the big box stores.

Cons: UPS handling of the boxes. They were large & heavy of course and I noticed that UPS did not use a cart bringing them to my door.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First let me start by saying, these are my first set of Polk audio speakers. Now, for the fun part! I've spent thousands of dollars on speakers for in home comparison. I've compared these to def tech bp series, paradigm studio 100v2, HTD level 3, SVS Prime, Cerwin Vega, Energy, Klipsch, and Onkyo THX speakers. None, and i mean none of the speakers compare to these polks! These are a force to be reckoned with. The closest sounding speakers were the HTD level 3 and they were 850 a pair vs 600 for these polks. The polks had the best sound of all I've listed to. Not only to me, but to other people as well, including my fiancé. I'm running these single wire on an Onkyo thx receiver at 130wpc into 8 ohms. They're loud, crystal clean, and really freaking accurate! I can't see anyone needing any other speakers unless you're a high end brand snob. Take it from me, these are the best you can buy under 2k and I've spent hours listening through them all. (Pure direct mode) so there was no EQ, just music how it's meant to be heard. Shout out to Quinn! My sales rep. Very helpful! Also, Crutchfield, this is how a company is meant to be ran! Customer for life!

Pros: Everything! These speakers are amazing! The sale price is astounding and they cannot. Be beaten. Not unless you spend 2k or more on towers. And unless you have an expensive amp to push the high end towers you'll not notice anything to brag about. The sound is impeccable! The finish is gorgeous! They're built solid!

Cons: None! Absolutely nothing to complain about on these!

Great sounding speakers and Cherry finish is beautiful. Sound is very clear with great bass (Both highs and lows are great for music). I am using these speakers for Music only (Turntable, and music streaming from MacBook Pro). Connected to Yamaha Stereo Receiver Model R-N303. Crutchfield advised a great product for my music listening. Both boxes were not handled well by UPS and severely damaged during shipment (Arrived with holes and cracks all over both boxes). Good thing the speakers were not damaged inside the box.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you are reading this then you have most likely read the rest of the reviews. Any product that gets such consistently high marks means that it delivers. These speakers certainly do that. I'm into vintage audio and was still listening to some first generation Advents. Although I'm still using my late 70's era receivers (Pioneer SX-1280 and Sansui 9090DB both recently refurbished and upgraded) I had to move my sound room and the Advents we a little too big. So, I decided to move into the 21st century, speaker wise. I suspect that most speakers in this price range sound pretty much alike. But, I own a pair of vintage Polk Monitor 5jr's and those little guys are amazing. What actually sold me on the RTi A7 verses its competition was the look. The cherry veneer is furniture grade and the curved back enclosure, besides helping with some sonic gremlins (supposedly), bespeak of quality. Also, in my case, that little extra space on the back side created by that curve really helped me relative to placement. When Crutchfield put them on sale, the choice was made. I am extremely satisfied with these speakers.

Pros: Great sound from lows to highs Beautiful enclosures

Pros: Great sound quality Excellent finish

    Cons:

Exquisite sonic reproductive quality. Tight punchy bass, subtle controlled yet well blended mids, and spot on highs. The sound these towers produce have blown me away. Was torn between these and the Klipcsh RF-62 towers, I'm glad I chose the Polks. To me they look much better as I'm not a fan of the copper colored cones on the Klipcsh. And these have a smoother sound. Great line and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great sounding setup musically and movie wise.

Pros: Look stunning Sound incredible Great build quality

Cons: At these price how could you complain about anything these have to offer. Just give them a try and you'll be glad you did

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Absolutely beautiful speakers. Just bought the cherry and pictures do not do these speakers justice. With that being said I have say I did a side by side comparison sound test with my older Polk rti8 Towers which consist of two 6 and a half drivers and one ince tweeter and the sound was pretty much identical with the exception of more powerful bass on the rti a7 speaker. Not saying that it's a bad thing because I'd still rather have the newer model and with the looks and price they can't be beat. I am just blown away at the construction of these speakers. They are like a high end piece of furniture. I want to point out that people who claim to be so called audiophiles and experts saying that these speakers need at least 200 watts to open up and won't sound so great with say a 100 watt amp are wrong. I'm using a denon 125 watt per channel receiver and it powers these big boys up loud and smooth with no harsh sound or distortion. If I were to put it any louder I'd be blowing my windows out not to mention my ear drums. This comes from a musician going on 40 years standing in front of many mega loud amps. It is not so much the wattage your amp says it has as it is how much usable clean power you have. A quality amp will give you quality sound. The other thing I'd like to point out is the bi-wiring and bi-amping myths. Bi-wiring will do absolutely nothing. Bi-amping will do nothing unless you use separate amps. Using your receivers oth

    Pros: All.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I would start by saying great speaker, great sound and great price. I got these speakers on a massive sale they are having at Crutchfield. I started with a set of Wharfedale Diamond 240s, and I was not happy with the overall sound. I replaced those with a set of these Polk A7s, and it was an immediate improvement in sound. I have these setup to a home theater and use these for about 70% music / 30% tv/movie use. I listen to classic rock, rock, jazz, pop and I can tell you these speakers sound amazing. I have a Pioneer receiver, and used the MCACC setup. I actually have these set as "small" speakers to allow my subwoofer to handle the low stuff. In switching between large and small, the difference was not extremely noticeable...very slight. So I am ok with them as small. I also used my receiver to bi-amp these by using the rear zone speakers (I think for Atmos) that I do not own. I felt the clarity and overall response did increase significantly with bi-amping them. If you have the option to do that, I would recommend this. I would highly recommend these for the above average music and movie fan, these a great addition to anchor your front sound without breaking the bank. I would also add, don't settle for speakers you aren't fully happy with, you can achieve the sound you are looking for with almost any budget. These Polk RTi's don't disappoint, it sounds like Eric Clapton is playing in my family room - crystal clear, I can hear the guitar strings picking.

Pros: -Rich, full sound thru the whole spectrum (treble, mids and bass) -Impeccable clarity -Bi-wire/amp capable -Price / overall value

Cons: -Really none, perhaps a touch bright, but nothing close to causing any listening fatigue

I bi-amped my Polk speakers to a Yamaha A770 receiver with the intention of using as a stereo music system initially with future surround sound hook-up. The sound was clear with well integrated bass. Midrange was crisp and the tweeter sound was both clear and crisp on sharp rock guitar rifts as well as surprisingly warm on classical music choices. Even my skeptical wife was very pleased with the sound delivered. I am looking forward to even better response as speakers are burned in over time. Comment: speakers do draw quite a bit of power so they should be coupled with at least a 200 watt receiver/amp. Note: if connected to Yamaha receiver without center channel speaker, receiver will need to be set on stereo to pick up voice when passing tv output through speakers

Were shipped in a timely manner, even got an email the moment they were delivered letting me know the time they were at my house and the location they left them. And although one box had damage to it, the speakers were completely fine due to very protective packing inside.

Pros: -Full Bass -Good Dynamic Range -Ability to be Bi-Amplified -Aesthetically Pleasing

Cons: -None (Please look at weight before you buy. Speakers are heavy, as to be expected when buying floor-standing speakers)

I'm new to owning high end speakers...I went with these for the reputation and past experience with Polk speakers in my truck. They came highly recommended and I couldnt be more satisfied. Set up was a breeze and as I build my home theater and get more indepth with settings I might adjust some levels through the AVR......The sound is incredible - and that's without a sub. They carry the full range of sound for TV/Movies and music.

Pros: Sound, the sound and the sound!!! Full range of high to low is great. I love the look and have the space for tower speakers.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First let me start by saying that the support that I received over the phone was excellent. The staff at Crutchfield are knowledgeable, professional and courteous. The speakers arrived on time but the boxes were heavily damaged. Needless to say I was very concerned. After taking photos and signing that I received them (with notations concerning the damage), I immediately called Customer service and advised them of the situation. They told me to open them and inspect for damage with full assurance that if there was any damages it would be made right. To my surprise there was no damages at all. That says a lot about how well they are packed. Lastly let me say that these speakers are beautiful pieces of furniture, heavy and well made. Equally the sound quality and engineering are excellent . I am well pleased with this product and would highly recommend it.

Pros: Outstanding value for the price. Craftmenship is excellent as well as the performance.

Cons: Not really a con for me but they are big and heavy so you need to keep that in mind.

i see some reviews of the RTi series speakers saying they distort at high volume. i use a receiver with pre amp out Front left and right into a 300w stage amp pushing into the RTiA7s. I also have a 300w Polk Audio sub. I run the amp at 90% and can turn the volume completely up on the receiver without any distortion if I'm listening to recently recorded or remastered music. This is an awesome system folks and everyone that walks into the game room agrees. These speakers were not made to be pushed by a so called 160w receiver, if you don't have a 300w system then you don't need 300w speakers anyway. I know this because i tried it and burned up the tweeters which Polk Audio replaced. I've had this system for over 5 years and believe me I'm totally satisfied.

I added these to a Bose Acoustimass 5 and a vintage Infinity Reference 2 set to build a "sound wall" on each side of my living room using a Niles speaker switch and a Velodyne subwoofer and Infinity center. The sound is now at a new dimension !! The settings on my Onkyo receiver allow me to switch my set up very nicely for both surround sound with my TV or for pure music listening on the "All Channel Stereo" mode driving all the speakers in my configuration. Wish I would have done this years ago. The music is now very immersive and feels like being at a live performance. I never really experienced this at home before so now I am listening to alot more music.

Purchased these as a replacement for a pair of Bose 501's from 1978. Set up with a Technics SA-400 receiver and SL-3300 turntable just to spin albums. Sound is excellent throughout the range. Room is 16X20, hardwood floor with an area rug. Haven't had time for years to listen to, (now vintage) album collection.....digital is dead in this house! Cherry cabinet finish and general construction is flawless. Awesome speakers! Boxes were toasted during holiday shipping but were securely packed and absolutely no damage. With the demise of dedicated, local, audio only store, Crutchfield is where it's at.

Great overall speakers for music and movies! Beautiful build quality ,Very power hungry thow ! I had to bi-amp them to stop clipping at high volume. I have them bi-amped to my marantz 7011 and they sound perfect now up to 90 Wich is where I have the volume limited at. They flex every window in my 2000 sqft house so personally I will probably not buy a sub for awhile .granted my crossover in the marantz is set to 40hz but with them bi-amped they seem to go lower .granted it is not that chest compressing bass you would get with a sub that can extend down to 15-20hz but it is good enough to save your money on a sub for awhile! But overall after a week of breaking them in they have a very natural tone and decently balanced between mids, highs and lower bass extension . They Excel at just about anything you throw at them . Just have a good amp to push them .and definitely bi-amp them if possible they need the extra current!

Pros: Great sound and excellent build quality!

I'm used to the speakers from the 70's and 80's, meaning AR's, Dahlquist, ESS, real JBL's. But I needed decent speakers on a $600 budget and I like plenty of midrange, as well as smooth highs and deep but not overwhelming bass. These are hooked up with my 70's era stereo amp. The more I listen to them the more I like them. Artists like Jackson Brown voice sounds smooth, Al Dimeola guitar comes out realistic both electric and acoustic. I auditioned these at the store against all kinds up to $2,000 and for the money these were the best compromise. I was hesitant to buy anything yet, because while the speakers are designed in the U.S. they are manufactured in China. But they seem to be very well constructed.

    Pros: Constructed well. Great dispersion.

I haven't bought new speakers in over 20 years and iterated that fact to Ryan @ Crutchfield. I told him I was interested in the Polk Audio RTi A7s, had a couple of questions that he answered quickly and I ordered them. One question was how well my roughly 5 year old Pioneer VSX 1020 would drive them, Ryan indicated it would be a good match. I did switch it back to conventional stereo and am very satisfied with the looks, sound and value of the purchase The promised ship date was was 11/27 Monday but the UPS truck actually hit my driveway by 10AM Saturday 11/25 undamaged. I was relieved the driver said he made mine the first stop of the day so there was a better chance of someone being home and the speakers not sitting loud and proud on my front porch! The buying experience was also very good. The Crutchfield name was a familiar one as I remember seeing the magazine waaaaay back in the day.

I can't wait till they are broken in and I hear all the nuances in the variety of music I listen to. Would have given a 5 star review; however I just purchased the coordinating CSi A3 center channel speaker less than 4 weeks ago and things are still adapting and getting broken -in with more and more usage. I used to have some RTi 100 front speakers and a CSi 3 Polk Audio center channel speaker. I just felt I need an upgrade. Since the RTi A7 speakers were on sale from their MSRP I believed it was the right purchase to make at this time. It's very similar to the RTi 100's front speakers and the accompanying CSi 3 center channel. It's just that now instead of having a powered downward firing sub-woofer like what was on the RTi 100's; I hook-up the RTi A7's with a Bi-amp connection. Next Onkyo home theater receiver I purchase; I plan on buying 12 gauge speaker wire and banana plug-ins. Right now I'm still using XP Monster cable 16 gauge speaker wires. Works fine. But I've heard the sound improves if you get 10 gauge or 12 gauge speaker wire.

Love them! Great look, rich sound, better movie experience! The wife likes them too!! I purchased a pair of black RTi A7's, they took a week to be delivered; UPS called me to set up time which I thought was great and then rolled them into my living room as they are very heavy. I connected these to an older receiver (Onkyo TX-NR708). The A7's replaced a pair of front Polk RM6751 satellite speakers (used for rear, Front, & Surround). The sub I have is a 100watt (not 50 watt) RM6750 and as well have one RM6752 center channel speaker. The difference is obvious as the front RM6751 speakers were tailored for a smaller setup; albeit I have always liked them. Having A7's as my front speakers now has our family movie night back on. The only downfall with adding such great speakers to an older setup is that it has certainly made me start shopping for a new more updated, more powerful receiver, an additional better sub, and better surround sound speakers! :)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered these speakers after doing my homework and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. They are incredibly balanced and all of the nuances you might experience in a live setting seem to be captured. I listen to blues, classic rock and older jazz-they sound great with whatever I throw at them. The salespeople at Crutchfield were knowledgeable and courteous-they will get my business again. If you're looking for a moderately priced loudspeaker that will easily fill a small to medium sized room, seriously consider these. I'm pushing mine with an Onkyo TX-NR636 and at 95 watts a side, these sound great.

Pros: Full, balanced sound, great construction, beautifully finished.

    Cons: None.

I am a DJ from m the 80's. Purchased a set of A7's and tied them to a restored Carver 500T. Anyone disappointed in these speakers just don't have enough power. I am a firm believer in separation of music and movies. I have had more speakers than I can count since 1970. These by far have the best top to bottom range. At 10 watts metered my room is full led. When I take it to a real 100watts (not AV 100 but real power) it is amazing with no distortion.

    Pros:

Cons: At 250watts need something me sub but who really goes there?

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Due to a remodel, I was presented with the opportunity to upgrade my 5.1 system. My old system consisted of two small Infinity bookshelf speakers and smaller speakers making up my center and surrounds. After looking at speakers within our budget I settled on the RTi A7's along with the FXi-A6's (surround) and the matching CSi-A6. This was my first experience with any Polk Audio speakers. Unfortunately, in my area I wasn't able to get to a location to actually listen to them. I had listened to Kilipsh in a couple of different stores and determined it wasn't the sound I was looking for. I listed to the new Polk Signature Series in a store. I loved the mains however I wasn't impressed with the center channel. My room is 25' x 13' and didn't feel the new Signature Series center would provide enough umph for the size room I was trying to fill. I really wanted to timbre my entire speaker system therefore the Signature series was out. After looking through the reviews, and knowing about Crutchfield's return policy, I decided to take gamble and made the purchase. Honestly, I really wanted to purchase the RTi A9's because I was worried that the A7's wouldn't fill the room enough. I was happily surprised to discover that they did a fantastic great job! The entire Polk lineup that I purchased sounds fantastic!! You're getting a much better sound for the money your spending! I've bi-amped the A7's and they sound clear, crisp and full. Exactly what I was looking for!!

Pros: Value for price, build quality, sound quality

Pros: Look good, sound good, well constructed and solid.

Cons: None really. Front covers do not work loose like other similar towers.

I love these speakers! I watched the prices until they were what I was comfortable with and pulled the trigger. The customer service and shipping from Crutchfield was great and the speakers are very warm sounding. they even add a rumble to action movies I was lacking before. I have them paired with an older Onkyo SR-508 receiver that supplies 80w/channel and I have no complaints.

Pros: these speakers sound great and pair very nicely with my Polk CSI A6 center channel and have a beautiful cherry wood veneer.

Cons: not really a con for me, but these are quite large.

I normally don't write reviews, however these speakers are amazing! I have them running off of a circa 1976 Sansui 9090 receiver. Using the Harmon Kardon Bluetooth receiver I am able to play my iTunes library from my iPhone/iPad. The speakers are beautiful to look at and are the best sounding speakers I've ever heard. The sound is really warm. Great highs and mid tones. The bass response even at low volume is fantastic. I can only imagine what they will sound like once properly broken in. Polk knocks it out of the park with these speakers.

I'm very disappointed with these speakers. The highs are very harsh. The mids are non impressive and get really bad at high volume. I really had high hopes for these to be warm and inviting. I've had this pair for a couple months now and broke them in before writing my review. I listen to a brood range of music. I understand the difference in recordings. I've been playing guitar for 30 years. They are like a set of Bose. All highs no lows Bose. I'm really aggravated I wasted money on these. Like they say. Don't buy it till you test drive it.

These are really good speakers for the money! When I move to my new house I will be purchasing the RTIA9's...and these will go in the rear, but for now they are amazing sound and build quality. These speakers are playing at a minimum of 4 hours a day...love my music and movies. They are paired with a tsx250c center. Nice and heavy! And beautiful color over the Klipsch's cherry color. I would highly recommend anyone looking at these, to go through with it! You will not regret it!

Pros: Heavy build quality and beautiful sound for an entry level tower.

Cons: As always, this should already be known. But you should break this in for at least 50+ hours before really turning them up!

    Fantastic! under rated speakers

    Jibby from Canada on 4/23/2016

First off, i'd like to address the "you'll need a sub" item. I suppose if you have these speakers in a very large room, well away from any walls, you may not experience the same bass response as I do. I have them in a 12x18 room... near side walls, and i can tell you that the low subsonic frequencies in those suspenseful scenes in movies is all there... spooky good! I was jaw-dropped the first time I heard this. It vibrates(not shakes) the whole room, furniture and me included... with no detectable distortion at all from the cabinets. Y'know, that low subsonic rumble, probably around 60hz, that they love to put in movies these days. Absolutely no need for a subwoofer in my room. As for music, (mostly FLAC files), I couldn't be happier with these... paired with my older yamaha 85w receiver(2 ch.). Highs are nice and bright, but not overwhelming. Mids and bass are tight and well balanced. I have yet o turn it up loud enough to detect any distortion, and I usually listen to music at half way or more on the amps volume. So there it is... if you have a huge, open room, maybe get the A9s. If you have a medium sized room, and place your speakers near back or side walls, forget about a sub... you won't need it. And yes, these sound great with my 85w amp. No need for 200w+ as some have mentioned.

Pros: All around great speakers. Look great, sound great.

    Cons: none.

Just received my pair (black) of these bad boys and so far they're living up to expectations. Crystal clear sound and tight bass. They sound incredibly great. I'm powering them with Denon AVR X4100W. Switched the receiver to Manual setting so I could properly set up the Equalizer to my taste. You can't beat the price considering other brands that costs triple or quadruple that don't even come close in terms of audiophile standard. I took a chance and purchased based on others review and comments and so far have no regrets. Just had them for little over 24h. Also received a free psw111 subwoofer but not using that right now.

Pros: Nice looking and solidly built. Clear sound and tight bass

I recently upgraded my stereo system. I went from a Pioneer receiver and JBL speakers to Polk A7's with a Polk PSW110. I am firing those bad boys up with a Yamaha R-S700. It has 100w per channel of AZZ kicking power. I added an Onkyo CD player and my old timetable from my old unit for my LP's. The sound is great from all units. The sw is awesome with the A7's. If you like good looking and good sounding speakers A7's is the way to go. If you into music, the Yamaha R-S700 has more than enough power.

Pros: These are some good looking and well built speakers. Anyone that sees them can tell you are serious about music.

Very clean and full sound in a room that has 10' ceilings, is 20' wide and about 40' deep. I replaced some RT55's with these and use them as my front channels in my 5.1 system. Just the size difference of the cabinet separates the sound better and creates a wider, more robust stage. Very nice looking and fit in well with the rest of the wood in my viewing area.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Beautiful, sturdy and well-designed. I wanted a pair of speakers for a simple home stereo audio set up. I did lots of research and these always came up as some of the best out there. The Polk website was offering a buy one, get the second at half price deal. Crutchfield matched it. Quick shipping, well packaged, they look and sound fabulous. I also needed an amp to drive them, and wanted to be able to play music from ipods/ipads and computers. I'm not an audiophile obviously, so I coupled them with the Sonos Connect amp and this set up is absolutely wonderful. You can fill the house with music from the living room, or sit quietly without disturbing the rest of the household, listening to classical stuff and still hear every instrument. This is a great set-up for an imposing music set up without breaking the bank on an expensive amp.

Pros: To these old ears they are flawless.

    Cons: None.

AudioGuyNC from North Carolina on 6/15/2015

YES these speakers sound Great - but - There are a few things to mention. First is price, I got mine on a very nice discount - if I had paid full price I would not be as happy. They replaced my Tsi400's so there is an improvement but they are just 1 part of my speaker system and they are not near as good an my Klipsch F-30's. These Polk's need so much power compared to the Klipsch and I have had to go back and adjust all the settings on my amp. - adjusting how much power is sent to each speaker terminal. Thank Goodness my Yamaha RX-V2700 allows me to do that. 140 Watts per channel X 7 channels.

Pros: They are great speakers - just quite expensive for what you are getting and compared to others.

Cons: Too expensive for what you get (so look for a nice SALE) Not very efficient - require a lot of Power compared to some other Hi-End speakers in the same price range. (Klipsch F-30's)

Have them connected to a Yamaha 85wpc Integrated amp., also from Cruitchfield, and I feel this is as good as it gets.

Matt W from Massachusetts on 5/30/2015

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They're okay. I've had them for about 4 months now, so they're well broken in. It was between these (the RTIs) and the Paradigm Monitor series for a new theater setup for a new apartment. I ended up going with the Polks because they were a little bit less, especially on promo with the discounted sub, and because they're better to look at with the real wood veneer. If I had to do it over again, though, I would have gone with the Paradigms. The Polks, while nicer to look at, don't come close to the Paradigm's performance. Don't get me wrong, they're not bad necessarily, But they're not great either. They're pretty flat sounding, not a lot of spaciousness to the sound, not much depth, either. I think the best way to describe the sound would be boring. You don't get excited about listening to the Polks, and you don't feel involved, be it with music or movies. You're just there, and so are the speakers. If you're coming from some cheap-o stuff or a HTIB, then you'll likely be impressed. If you're like me and have had nicer stuff in the past, you'll be disappointed most likely. Build quality is great though; they are sharp looking in cherry. If you prioritize looks over performance, the Polks are the way to go. If you care more about the sound, then in this general price bracket, I'd go for the Paradigms, which is what I'll be doing next time.

Pros: Great build quality, sharp looks, inoffensive sound, and relatively low price.

Cons: Boring to listen to. They don't draw you into the performance, be it music or movies.

I have these RTi-A7s paired with an older Sony STR-DE925 and they sound amazing! The clarity of the bass, mid-range and highs is so impressive. The bass is never boomy, the voices and mid-range instruments are all audible and clean, and the highs are there like never before. The imagery created by the RTi A7s is so nice that I find myself listening to all types of music in stereo mode all over again. Perfect for my needs! Look forward to adding the center and surround channels.

Pros: Clean, crisp sound without a boomy bass. Imagery is simply beautiful. No need for a sub listening to stereo mode. Black cabinets are gorgeous.

Cons: If you are worried about space, you would not be looking at floor standing speakers :-) Recommend 100+watts/channel. I went from one receiver at 85W/Channel to another with 110W/Channel and there was a notable difference in sound production in the lower end.

I bought a pair of these five years ago as part of a home theater system that includes other premium Polk speakers an onkyo 3001 receiver and two polk 660 subs. I wasn't sure that I needed these large speakers at the time. But not only are they a true standout when watching movies but they have me listening to much more music set on two channel stereo mode with the subs on. The imaging is remarkable and gives you a clear picture of the instruments and vocals before you. They do require a sub as most people have stated but that doesn't diminish them since any home theater needs at least one. As far as appearance they are the nicest furniture in our family room by far. No regrets.

I read countless reviews from buyers and various audio websites. They had me scared to death that I was not making a smart choice. Those reviews are full of crap. Too bright? No! These puppies sound amazing. I'm driving them with an amplifier at 130 watts per channel with a Polk 505 12" sub. I can't remember all the useless criticism I read. At this price point, I doubt very seriously you would ever find a better sounding pair of floor speakers. Then again, I really wouldn't ask for anything more. I guess if you are going for THX quality sound in your house, then I don't know. But if you just like to watch concerts and movies and have quality sound, you can't go wrong with the RTi A7s. Best speakers I have ever owned and money well spent. These were upgrades from a pair of Polk TSi400s, which struggled to keep up with my sub.

I really felt like they sounded a little bit better being set on the "Large" setting on the receiver when watching movies, but I later changed them to "Small" to take advantage of the 2 subs I have setup. They still sounded great. After testing some movies and being extremely pleased, I decided to test some music, so I pulled out my favorite CD, Pantera - Far Beyond Driven. I used the recently 20th anniversary release instead of the original. I was a little underwhelmed after having the receiver on 2ch stereo and it cranked up. Then when it hit my favorite track, 5 Minutes Alone, it just didn't sound like I wanted it to. Then I realized I still had the speakers set on Small. I changed them to Large and WOW. Definitely the best I've ever heard it. I highly recommend these speakers. They sound great on movies and music (when set to Large).

These speakers rock! Simply the best investment for the $. compared to others in the class and above. Peachtree 220's drive them, I use them for audio only, excellent range, excellent cross over. Needs a little time to break in the brightness and strongly recommend an amp/preamp arangement as they are power hungry.

Pros: Dynamic range is excellent, best purchase for the $

Cons: Needs power and break in time but as do most all hi end speakers

These speakers are everything I hoped they would be! The crossovers blend very well and get better with more power. I have these on zone 2 of my Onkyo NR-616 and sounded great but I felt they had more to give. I added a 300 watt amp to the signal and the clouds parted and the sun shined! I was expecting a lot when I purchased these and I feel I received a lot. The bass is very good and reproduces low sounds well but please don't expect the boom of a subwoofer. What makes these perfect in my eyes is the sound reproduction. Oh...and they're beautiful!

Pros: great overall sound, great for the money

Cons: not really a con but make sure you feed these babies the watts and you won't be disappointed

If you are reading this, you are probably like me and hesitating whether or not to buy the RTiA7's. I researched on and on and I heard that you will need to biwire, or biamp, or you will need a dedicated amp, or you need a min of 200 watts. This is all a bunch of B.S.! If you have a quality AVR 80 watts or more you are fine. I do agree that they are short on bass, but run with a subwoofer and they are absolutely awesome speakers. My only regret is not buying them sooner.

For this price, you just can't beat the sound coming from these speakers. I've had other Polk speakers, including the legendary SRS SDA (those huge 180 lbs boxes). The sound coming from the RTi A7's are on par with the SRS SDA's, albeit that the RTi A7's can never beat the imaging ability of the SRS SDA's. These are full-range speakers with plenty of bass ability. Overall tonal quality is very balanced and detailed. At this price, you just can't beat it!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had these speakers for about 6mo now and up until now I have been unhappy with them. When I first got them I hooked them up to a Cambridge 651R receiver. The sound was VERY bright. The treble was so intense that I had to turn them sideways. Plus the receiver just could not push the speakers very loud. Ive since tried a CA 751r receiver, an old Sony ES receiver, and an Onkyo int. amp. All had the same results. I even burned up both tweeters (replaced under warranty). I was ready to mothball these things.... Ive since replaced my receiver with a 2ch NAD preamp and two Emo XPA100s, and a pair of home built high end towers. Then I decided to try the Polks with this system and wow, what a difference. These speakers came alive. I must have been starving them for power. Even the CA751r's 170W wasnt enough to open them up. Now they sound absolutly wonderful. Of course this is all my opinion but I can confidently say that these speakers require serious power to reach their potential. If you like music loud and clear, dont buy these speakers unless you can feed them an ample amount of wattage.

Pros: great open sound, tight bass (turn off the sub, you wont need it).

Cons: Requires serious wattage to reach full potential. 200w or more.

    Conspicuous improvement over bookshelf speakers

Brent from Richland, Wa on 4/5/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Thus begins my slow march towards a home theater setup. I am currently powering these with 100W/ch Onkyo stereo receiver that gets it's input from a Marantz UD5007 RCA output. They replaced a pair of Polk Monitor 40 bookshelf speakers. The first thing I notice is nearly an extra octave at the low end. This range comfortably covers everything down to the lowest note on a bass. I do not use the free PSW110 subwoofer that came with these. I do not have a proper way to set crossover frequencies in my system so the sub, even with its crossover set to the minimum 60 Hz, interferes with the low end from these speakers. I don't think the sub is necessary for music. It would be nice to have that sub for movies so I will hold onto it for when I get to the part of this upgrade where I have a 5.1 receiver. The second most significant improvement over the bookshelf speakers is the dynamic range. Details like pick noise on a guitar string or footsteps in a soundtrack are there where I never heard them before. That really helps with the stereo imaging and the sense of depth and separation in the soundstage. That separation really reduces the harshness of very complex musical passages or loud movie scenes. I never find myself reaching for the remote to turn it down at such times anymore. I don't have anywhere to audition similar speakers in my area so I don't really have any basis for comparison. But, I certainly feel like I got my money's worth in these.

Pros: Excellent low-frequency range and dynamic range. Best sound quality per dollar out there I suspect.

    Cons:

Handsome sound & aesthetics. Clarity over Quantity

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Powered through a Yamaha Aventage RX-A2000 7.2 Surround stereo. I must recommend these speakers as part of a complete surround system but not with any less power than than the Yamaha's 130 Watts per channel. These speakers are power hungry. CDs, BLU Ray Audio, SA-CD, MP3, AAC, Rock, Blues, Classical, Punk, Jazz, Action, Drama, Comedy, DVD, BLU Ray, Satellite. these speakers excel. If you need big bass, then you'll need a subwoofer (or two as i have) otherwise these would be great surround speakers. But I would not think of these speakers as star players, they are more like a role players as part of an overall championship team, to expect them to them to carry the rest of the team would be unfair. Unless you have a team of under performers. But don't get me wrong these speakers do not disappoint. I used these to replace Polk Audio TSi500s as my front speakers. Listening to my favorites added a fullness and detail. My movies also benefitted from that. And as I stated above, be it MP3s all the way up to BLU Ray audio, these speakers deliver. I'm impressed and pleased with these and glad for the new role they play as my Front Left and Right Channels. Excellent team players.

Pros: Detail, Clarity. Excellent role players. Beautiful enclosures, my wife admired them and even commented that she loved their look over and above the predecessors.

Cons: Power Hungry. Thinner on the low end but not completely lacking.

I hear things in familiar music that I never knew were there and I am still amazed. I just switched to a Yamaha RS 700 from a Dennon AVR 291. The Yamaha has the power to push the speakers better than the Denon and the sound is just gotten better. Replaced Primus 360. Excellent Speakers

W from Northern New Jersey on 3/8/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased a pair of RTi A7 to replace a pair of Infinity Primus 360s that I had for several years. The 360s sounded fine but had some reliability issues. In a fit of profligacy, I decided to upgrade to the Polks. Briefly: They are simply outstanding speakers, all around. Stunning sound. A few words on the setup: Power comes from a modest Denon AVR 1705 amplifier. The input is uncompressed digital from an AirPort Express unit. (Don't underestimate the power of the AirPort express. Jitter is basically nonexistent, and the unit will happily send uncompressed audio from uncompressed (or Apple Lossless) files on your computer all day. Garbage in, garbage out. (OK, I listen to classic rock and 80s pop, mostly, which might be "garbage in" to some...!)) Anyway, be mindful of the source audio quality. A Polk 650 series subwoofer supplements the bass (it's a large room), and it's worth every dollar. Don't skimp on the sub. The RTi A7s produce stunning clarity and stereo separation. I heard instruments I never knew were in songs. At times, I swear I can hear individual bristles strike the cymbals. Santa's Evil Ways or Marc Cohn's Ghost Train are excellent examples of songs where each instrument seems to be in a precise location in front of you. Pink Floyd's Remastered Wish You Were Here is completely enveloping. The guitar, drums, and synthesizers are never muddled. Zeppelin, Joel, Elton, The Beatles... I doubt they sounded this good in the studio with the engineer at their side.

Pros: They sound far better than their price tag suggests. I don't think I would hear a difference if I spent five times the price.

Cons: They're physically quite deep. Make sure you measure before you buy. There's a wacky black plastic piece in back (diffusing air from the port) that adds a few inches. If you're tight on space, it looks like a few screws will liberate it. Also, you'll really want a good sub. In fact, I suspect you'd be better buying the good sub first, then using what's left to fill in the rest. If you can afford the RTi A7, though, I can't imagine you'd regret it.

Ditched my surround system and simplified life with new stereo receiver (Onkyo TX 8050, 80W Channel). Thank you Cooper for the excellent recommendation on speakers! The Polk RTiA7's arrived yesterday. At the price for the pair, they were $300 over my desired price limit, but they say to spend as much as possible on the speaker side. They weigh in each around 50+ lbs and Crutchfield shipped them with free 3 day shipping! A very big savings. I hooked them up and am so very happy I took Coopers advice. Wow! I love them! The sound is so dynamic and full it's unbelievable. And, I can FEEL the bass. My wife, who also was reluctant to see our budget take the extra hit required to buy these speakers - concurs. Money very well spent! I'm of the generation that believed you needed 12" or 15" woofers to get the desired bottom of rock music. Not anymore. These babies put out plenty of bass if you need it. Now here's the funny part. Polk Audio was running a promo where, if you spend more than $800 on speakers, you get a free PSW111 powered sub-woofer (300 watt 8" sub). Guess what? It's still in the box. Life is much simpler now and the music is sweet! I've come full circle. I've returned to listening to 2 channel music just like I did in the 60's. So long obtrusive surround sound, hello clean pure stereo.

Pros: Awesome sound and big bang for the buck! Absolutely beautiful design and craftsmanship. The cherry wood veneer is gorgeous. Looks like a piece of fine furniture.

    Cons: None.

Was totally disappointed in them. I was playing them at a level half their rated power and the woofers were distorting. I had to trim the preamp high pass filter to 80 Hz to stop the distortion. They are supposed to be good down to 38 Hz. Maybe I received a defective pair. Although I could understand one speaker being defective, but not both.

Pros: Upper end plays clean and with a response expected for this price range.

I was also in numerous chat sessions with the experts at Crutchfield and called to talk with advisors as well. The Crutchfield customer service was outstanding as always. I spent hours in other retailers. Bottom line is the Polk RTi A7 towers to my ear out performed speakers that cost a whole lot more. Some of those were B&W, Infinity, Martin Logans and others. I've only had them for a couple weeks and couldn't be more pleased. They are driven by a Denon AVR X2000 receiver. I've had these for several years now and have a new appreciation for their capabilities and sound since upgrading my receiver. I had driven them with a 100WPC Yamaha HTR using the front outs only. When I upgraded to the Onkyo TR-626 recently, I ran it for a week on the front channels only. It sounded comparable to my old receiver...until I bi-amped the speakers. I was happy before but the speakers just came alive. I was really impressed with the volume and clarity. The bass is awesome.

Excellent imaging creates a beautiful soundstage with characteristic Polk warmth and realism. Treble is clean and clear and authentic and the bass response is full and rich. Fantastic reproduction of any type of music (from Metal to whatever) with that of orchestration or acoustic guitars being quite astounding. Get out your vinyl of "dark side of the moon" and enjoy! The fit and finish of the cabinetry is beautiful. As always, Crutchfield comes through with great service and pricing on outstanding products!

These speakers sound absolutely phenomenal, the sound quality is superb, the look is stylish and well designed and the price is cozy. My system compromises of an HT Omega sound card (if your using a PC as your source definitely look into this puppy) hooked up to a Yamaha R-S700 (I much prefer Stereo over surround, the quality of sound is unsurpassed) and then into a pair of these and a Polk DSW 660wi, and when it was first played, I was blown away. Listening to FLACs on this system is like listening to music for the first time ever, 24bit remasters of The Doors and The Beatles are beautiful and psychedelic as ever, Led Zeppelin shakes the floor and Pink Floyd brings in another dimension. If you are considering these for your system, give them a listen and decide for yourself, I'm sure you'll fall in love just as I did.

Pros: Great look, sound and price

Cons: None really, covers are a bit cheap and will break easily, keep that in mind when handling them if you plan to use those covers, they do defend against kittens though, thank god!

    Possibly My Last Speakers

Ron from Mount Washington, KY on 3/13/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I prefer music in 2-channel stereo so I need speakers that produce enough bass on their own. With some material the bass is lacking but that's not a reflection on the A7s. Music from the last decade or so usually has a much heavier bass line than something from the 80's or earlier. Sometimes I add a little bit of sub to round out the bottom but if strong bass is there to begin with they shake the floor without it. I drive them with a 100-watt Sony STR-DG2100 receiver. They are bi-amped using the surround back channels and the bottom end does sound a little more full. The sweet spot to fill my living room (20 x 20) at a moderate level is around -20db. I would not drive them with anything smaller but a high quality 100-watt receiver will do the job. These speakers are very detailed. You will hear things you have never heard before. I have been listening to Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" since it was released and for the first time I can hear the "pin prick". These speakers bring out the best and worst. Music with a lot of dynamic range will give them more to work with. If it's a poorly produced or highly compressed track you will know it. The A7s are audiophile grade speakers so your source material makes a big difference. Having a warm sound was high on my list and I can listen for hours without any ear fatigue. Thanks to Polk for sticking with a soft dome tweeter. You can spend a lot more on speakers but I can't image why you would. The A7s might be the last speakers I buy.

These are upgrades from the Polk TSi300, which I have moved to be the surround left and right speakers. The RTi A7's have excellent sound all the way through the spectrum. I have these for the front left and right in a 7.2 system with an Onkyo TH-NR809 AV receiver. These two speakers and the center channel speaker are powered by an Emotiva XPA-3 (200 (at least) REAL watts of clean power times 3). The RTi A7's handle the "real" power with ease. They really sing at higher volumes. They were somewhat "bright" at first, as many others have mentioned, but do sound better with age. They have a very nice visual appearance as well. I would recommend these speakers.

I've had my A7s for about three years and thay have always performed well. They also present themselves well visually - more like nice furniture. Originally, I powered them with an Onkyo 707 receiver. They sounded great. A year later I added a NAD T955 amp. They sounded really great. Last month I swapped out the Onkyo/NAD 'engine' for an even stronger Marantz MM7055 amp fed by the Marantz AV7005 processor. Now with 145 W/Channel the A7s have hit their stride. Though planning to replace them with new A9s this year I'm really struggling to justify the change!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have been researching replacing an old set of Polk's for quite a while. Looked locally at some Paradigm that were very nice but a lot more money, and the guy from the store never got back in touch with me so... I bit the bullet on the RTIA7's and have NO regrets. The purchase & delivery were Crutchfield class all the way. Installation was a breeze, as I had time to get all the wiring issues (Bi- Amped) prior to their arrival. Had them up and running within an hour of delivery. I have been delving into all of my music hearing it as never before. The soundstage is dramatic, at whatever volume I listen to them. They seem to be getting better as they are breaking in. Also purchased the CSiA6 center speaker, and it is a BEAST size wise but does great across the front. The wife always griped about my previous center channel speaker and this is twice the size but the installation was planned better and seems suspended in mid air. The hometheater experience is breathtaking. Am saving up to purchase surround speakers to finish off my 7.1 set up. NO REGRETS!!!

Pros: Cherry Finish is impeccable, and look is breath taking. Bi-amping is the way to go.

Cons: Thought size would be an issue but isn't just more to appreciate!!

These speakers are a joy to look at just as much as they are to listen to. Their sound is full, rich, and enveloping.

    Pros: Beautiful design, quality sound.

Cons: Bass response is not what as good as purported on the product description.

Have had these speakers a couple weeks now and, as others have noted, they seem to getting better now that they are broken in. They are much more warm and mellow than my HTIB speakers were. I have them bi-amped and am still using my old center and surrounds. Overall the sound picture is very nice

A real value. great upgrade from my Polk Satellite speakers, using these as replacements for my fronts

Pros: Great look, great sound for Home Theater You dont really need a sub for these

Cons: My home theater amp/receiver really cant drive these for music effectively. Need to add an Amp,and use the receiver as a pre-amp.

    Fantastic Speaker

KYFHO from Misawa, Japan on 2/4/2012

I purchased the RTi A7's a while back and am finally getting around to posting a review. First of all, these speakers are absolutely beautiful! The cherry finish is top notch and classy looking. A lot of the reviews you read will say these speakers lack low end bass and that you will need a sub. "IF" you do not power these speakers properly, you will need a sub. However, if you power them with a minimum 125 watts of "high current" power from an external amp, you will be blown away. The majority of AVR's that overstate their power ratings will work, but they will not bring out the best these speakers have to offer. I am bi-amping my A7's with 305 watts from a Parasound A23 and Carver AV-705X amplifier and I tell you, I have more than enough bass to rattle the walls and upset the neighbors. The mids are very rich and the highs are outstanding (extremely clear). I have played these speakers to very high volume with zero distortion. Lastly, if you do plan on purchasing the A7's and are planning on running an external amplifier, I highly suggest you research the different brands. There are many brands of amplifiers that tend to make the A7's sound overly bright so hit the different forums on the internet and educate yourself. Overall, two thumbs up for the A7's!!!!

Pros: Outstanding sound quality; Beautiful cherry finish; Can take gobs of power!

Cons: I have yet to find anything negative about these speakers

I bought a pair of these to replace some Infinity SM112s. I had them 20 years and they finally disintegrated and forced me to get some new ones. The Polk RTi A7s fit my price range and they were well worth the money. I use them more for music and they have great clarity from the highs to the mid lows. There's definitely a lack of deep lows, so it really needs a subwoofer. So I got a PSW111 and it sounds amazing. I actually really prefer that it sound better with a subwoofer than if it had adequate deep bass on its own. The cherry finish looks really nice too.

Awesome Speakers at a Great Price

Jim from Central VA on 12/10/2011

These speakers have a beautiful sound. They came out of the box sounding great and they keep getting better as they break in. They create a wall of awesome sound that has to be heard to be believed. I use them for both home theatre and music and they handle both jobs perfectly. They are a bit power hungry but if you give them the power they desire they can't be beat. These speakers are well worth buying.

Pros: Everything! They sound great, they look great and they have a great price.

    Cons: Can't think of anything.

I purchased these RTiA7 about a month ago, and wanted to leave my review. They have gone from good to inspiring after breaking in. Natural, uncolored sound with wide dispersion so they sound good in every part of the room. A little power hungry, I drive with 125 watts rms per side, enough, and I like loud at times, but leaving me wishing my receiver would let me bi-amp with the two channels that aren't used while listening to music. I use a powered 125w sub to reinforce the lowest bass and ease the load on amp and speakers. I am loving these speakers. If you are a discriminating listener, have a strong amp and understand sound like this doesn't come in a tiny box, you will love these. I have no disappointments

I have long purchased products from Polk Audio over the years for home, boat and car. As my title states, these speakers certainly maintain my expectations of value and sound.

I have had these speakers for a little over a month I cannot find anything negative to say. First of all, they look great and my wife was very happy to see they matched the décor and of our house. The sound quality of these speakers have increased over the past month as they have broken in. At first I was concerned with the bass response but the bass has grown over the past month and I am now completely satisfied. Of course ordering through Crutchfield was seamless and the speakers arrived on time with no damage. Everyone who has seen and heard these speakers leaves my house impressed!

Just purchased a pair of the RTi a7s from Crutchfield after weeks of searching, listening and reading reviews. These speakers are for all intensive purposes beautiful pieces of furniture of the best craftsmanship. Flawless out of the box. But what about the sound ? Very well balanced and getting better and better every day. The woofers will season in depth but the nice FREE 8 inch Polk Sub included with Crutchfield purchase rounds things out until then. Show some respect and bi-amp these. They are not your ordinary loud speaker and deserve nothing less. They are large but have a small footprint. I read so many reviews raving about these speakers and was skeptical. No more. Don't walk; run to Crutchfield.com and order these now. One more thing: Crutchfield's service was outstanding in an age of forgetting who the customer is. ajs

For the price you cannot go wrong, even my wife was amazed cranking 120 watts of MInus the Bear Dr L'Ling she said it sounded live!!! At first they were pretty bright, subwoofer balanced out, but now my sub will be an end table. The handle anything, TV, Movies, BD, CDs, mp3. If 5-stars is the best, these speakers deserve a 7-star rating. Perfect in every way. A true work of art in both sound quality and cabinet craftsmanship. Breathtaking sound!!! After countless hours of research focused on Polk, Infinity, and Klipsch, I ordered the Polk RTiA7 Towers and the Polk PSW125 Sub and a Denon receiver from crutchfield. I have listened to hundreds of systems, mostly high end, but I have never heard sound like this before. What all the other reviews say about truly hearing your music for the first time is not exagerated. These speakers will exceed your expectations. The cabinets are clad with real cherry veneer, not a laminate. The craftsmanship is superb. They will fit with even the highest end decor.

Got these a couple days ago. I had replaced everything in my system with high quality audio equipment save some Onkyo speakers I had from my college days (20 years back). I had always like those Onkyos but I figured perhaps technology had improved. When I plugged the Polks in I was amazed - it was like a new system. I now understand the term "sound stage" for it truly feels I am hearing something from a stage. I was missing the highs all this time - the polks have amazing highs. The bass is tight as well. I used to have to turn the volume up quite high but the polks deliver a ton more sound. Wish I would have done this years ago. Highly recommended.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are a professional well built speaker. Sound detail is amazing. I power these with an Onkeyo TS-805 with about 135 watt per channel. These are used for my mains in a 5.1 system. The bass is great after I had to manually change the crossover setting in my receiver to 40hz.. I still use a 12'' Polk powered subwoofer and you can feel the thump in your chest with these speakers. I use these for 70% movies and 30% for hard rock music. Also, my room is only 10' x !2" so if you are hesitating on moving to a floor standing speaker because of a small room make the investment and get them. You will be amazed and so will your neighbors! p.s. Cruchfield service and tech support/knowledge is a first class operation. Don't waste your money or get tech advice from the big box store.

    Very happy with the A7's

Brian from northwest Ohio on 6/20/2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After having the A7's for a few months now I can say I'm very pleased with them. I echo other reviews in that these speakers are beautiful in both looks (I have the black) and sound quality. I'm powering mine with a Pioneer Elite receiver with 110 watts per channel. They sounded good from the start but after bi-amping them I did notice subtle differences, particularly in clarity, but either way they sound good. I can crank these up loud and they sound loud and clear, no distortion. The lows could probably be a little better, but then again these aren't huge woofers, and with a sub and the A7's set to "small" in the receiver, any lack of bass is non-existent anyway. Highs and mid- range sound very good. I originally had the Klipsch RF-62's but something to me just didn't sound quite right, almost like the treble wasn't right, but no matter how I adjusted the receiver it didn't help much. Crutchfield worked with me and let me exchange the RF-62's for the Polk A7's and right away I thought, "These sound good," without hesitation. I also found these A7's to be $100 cheaper here on Crutchfield than at a certain popular brick and mortar store. Crutchfield rocks! The A7's aren't small and they're pretty heavy, but with decent amplifier power, whether listening to music or movies, I don't think you can go wrong with these.

Rick H. from Hobe Sound, Fl on 6/15/2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Polk RTi A7 is big, heavy and power-hungry. It is also beautiful-in both looks and sound. The pics of it on Crutchfield's website don't do them justice-they really look good [I bought the cherry veneer model]. At first, I was disappointed with the bass response, but after 20 hours of use, I noticed a definite improvement. Now, after over 80 hours usage, bass is great. A word of advice-you'll want at least 75 watts to drive these beauties, preferably 100 watts or more. My Onkyo NR807 with 135 watts powers them nicely without bi-amping. With Polk's 5 year warranty and Crutchfield's excellent tech support, these speakers should please just about everybody.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm quite pleased with the Polk RTi A7's. What I enjoy the most about the speakers is the presence of detail. During movies, soundtracks are as present as effects and dialog. Playing music, every instrument is discernible. Nothing ever becomes muddled or drops to the background. I agree with the tips to be sure to have enough power. These are currently on a Denon receiver with 110W per channel and the bass section seems thirsty for more. That said, bass drum is very tight, slightly dry; however lower bass manages to maintain presence. We'll see if things open up a bit as the woofers break in. I'm definitely considering a receiver capable of assigning a couple channels to bi-amp duties, though. On aesthetics, I couldn't be happier. This is one of the more elegant floor- standing speakers I've seen. The cabinets do run deeper than most and require an additional few inches from the wall for the rear port deflector. The single mid-woofer makes these floor-standers pretty directional (as opposed to an MTM arrangement like the A9's). This can be great during movie effects, but may not be desired for those looking for a more spacious, broad dispersion speaker, or those with larger rooms. I personally enjoy the separation I notice over my previous dual-mid-woofer floor-standers, but also notice a lot of loss when listening out of the "sweet spot".

Just received these speakers (excellent customer service from Crutchfield). I'm very pleased with them, they are great speakers for the price. Cabinets are very solid and the sound is well balanced with good punchy bass, but it's not overwhelming. I also looked at the Polk TSi500's but was surprised how flimsy the cabinets felt, at even moderate volumes they were vibrating unpleasantly. In my opinion the RTiA7's are way better speakers and well worth the extra cost.

I keep the bass low cause Im in the basement. The sound is totally clear, i am looking forward to complementing these with the bookshelf speakers from Polk soon. Wow. Excellent looking speakers with excellent sound. The highs and lows seperate very well. I was going to spend the extra money for the Polk RTiA9 instead I went with the RtiA7 which I am glad I did. The RTiA9 would have been probably to bassy. I also purchased the CSia4 which I love for the center speaker and the PSW125 for the sub. I will have to replace my old polk rms7500 surrounds probably with the polk surrounds FXi4. Now I need to get a new receiver to extend the polk speakers. Replace my old receiver with a Onyko 706 or 806. Very pleased with the Polk's.

Ken from North Pole, Alaska on 8/1/2008

Originally I was not too pleased with these speakers. They were decent but my DSW500 had to do most of the LFE work. I was powering them with a Onkyo TX-SR705 and it did a decent job. I ordered an amp which is a 125x7 watt amp and the difference is AMAZING. When in 2 channel mode the amp gives me 170wpc to the A7s. These speakers rock my house now. They more than keep up with the DSW500 and put out tight clean bass. If you buy these and plan on just using a decent receiver to power them you are making a mistake. Spend the extra cash and get either a higher end receiver or get a good amp that can give these babies at least 150 watts to each of them in 2 channel mode for good 2 channel listening.

    Driver Technology

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Polymer Composite Woofers: The speaker features two 7" polymer composite woofers. Two 7" woofers have the surface area of a single large woofer with the low mass and acceleration of small woofers, resulting in tighter, more accurate bass response. Each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Polymer Composite Midranges: The speaker has one 6-1/2" polymer composite midranges for smooth wide-range response with low distortion. For high performance durability, the midrange uses a butyl rubber surround.

Silk/Polymer Tweeter: The speaker has a single 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter that provides clear, detailed highs. The tweeter features mylar bypass capacitors in the crossovers to extend high frequency response and improve detail and transparency. The tweeter also features low viscosity ferro-fluid cooling with a heat sink on the Neodymium magnet for superior heat dissipation, power handling and reliability.

Magnetically Shielded: The speakers are magnetically shielded, allowing you to place them near your television without distorting the picture.

    Enclosure Design

Damped Asymmetric Hex Laminate (DAHLI) Cabinet Design: All-MDF construction with massive asymmetric cabinet bracing ensures a resonance-free enclosure for accurate sound. The asymmetric design is made from a 6-layer laminate with 5 viscous layers to create the optimal shear damping (OSD) system. The elegant styling aside, curved cabinets not only result in a stronger, more rigid and acoustically inert enclosure, but the curved walls also produce less audible coloration from panel resonances.

Power Port Venting System: The speaker has a rear-firing Power Port venting system built into its back plate for precise deep bass response. This venting system allows air velocity to slow gradually, vastly reducing air turbulence, and delivering greater bass efficiency than conventional ports.

Acoustic Resonance Control (ARC): Internal cabinet resonance can impart a "thick" character to voices. Polk's patented Acoustic Resonance Control port system overcomes this problem. In addition to the Power Port venting system, each speaker has a front-firing port that is tuned to suppress the internal cabinet resonance, resulting in smooth, natural midrange reproduction.

Anti-Diffraction Grilles: The floating anti-diffraction grilles minimize grille diffraction for spacious, 3-dimensional imaging.

    Connections

Dual 5-Way Binding Posts: The speaker has two sets of gold-plated 5-way binding posts connected by gold-plated jumpers. Using the dual 5-way binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers.

    Mounting Options

Adjustable Leveling Spike Feet: The adjustable leveling spike feet that can be screwed onto the bottom of the speaker's attached base provide stability on any type of flooring. The spike feet adds approximately 0.875" to the speaker's overall height when screwed all the way in.

    Specifications & Dimensions

Frequency Response: The overall frequency response is 20Hz-27kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 35-26kHz.

Width: The main body of the speaker is 8.6875" wide but the speakers attached feet extend beyond each side of the speaker, giving the speaker and overall width of 10.6875".
