Overview

Our take on the Sony BDP-S6700

I've built a solid Blu-ray collection, so I'm glad to see Sony is still committed to making great disc players. The Sony BDP-S6700 won't play Ultra-HD 4K Blu-ray discs, but it will upconvert standard Blu-ray and DVD discs to near-4K quality for playback on your Ultra HD TV. And this versatile player also offers popular streaming video services and delivers serious picture detail to a 1080p screen.

Your home theater system's jack of all trades

I've built a solid Blu-ray collection, so I'm glad to see Sony is still committed to making great disc players. The Sony BDP-S6700 won't play Ultra-HD 4K Blu-ray discs, but it will upconvert standard Blu-ray and DVD discs to near-4K quality for playback on your Ultra HD TV. These days you can watch many of the best shows, movies, and even live sports on streaming services. And Sony has you covered. On top of that, Miracast™ technology lets you “mirror” what you see on your smartphone or tablet on your TV's big screen.

It gives you wireless access to the music stored on your phone, Pandora® Internet radio, and even music stored on a DLNA-connected server.

Beam sound wirelessly to headphones via Bluetooth

The BDP-6700's built-in Bluetooth lets you send the sound of your movies, shows, and other media to a pair of Bluetooth headphones. This helps with late night binge-watching. You can catch all the dialogue and hear all the loud, exciting sound effects without waking everyone up.

Great value for low price!

Rich from Stockholm, NJ on 5/27/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit to go with a new Sony XBR 900E 55" TV. I have an older Sony Blue-ray that has performed flawlessly for 7 years so I thought I would stick with Sony. I was attracted by the low price and the features offered and after two weeks of use I am very pleased with it. It interfaces well with my TV and my Yamaha sound bar and everything is controlled by my main TV remote. When it arrived I was surprised by its small size. Crutchfield's advisors were very helpful in answering my questions that helped with my selection.

Pros: Great features for a low price. Compact size.

Cons: None so far

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield help, service and shipping all first rate. For my basic needs this unit is fine. Connection direct and straightforward to new Sony smart tv, and works well. For a basic guy, there is simply too much capability here. learning how to coordinate and operate multi function controls along with those of tv is a real learning process. As with most Sony instruction manuals, very little is spelled out. You must be intuitive. - Sony help line is a lifesaver.

Great Until YouTube App Failed

Jerry from Salt Lake City, UT on 5/8/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this for the bedroom to give me access to DVDs, Netflix, and YouTube on the bedroom TV. Small and easy to setup. Was able to get Netflix and YouTube up quickly and attached to my accounts. I'm deducting a star because a couple of weeks after installing the unit YouTube stopped working. The splash screen comes up but no matter how long you wait it never brings up a list of videos. I did verify the latest firmware is installed.

Pros: Small. Easy setup.

Cons: YouTube App failed early in life.

Ramon from San Francisco, CA on 5/1/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First: Crutchfield's service was spot-on; I ordered it and it arrived today, one day earlier than stated. five hours of trying to pair Beats Studio 3 with it = dismal and frustrating failure. The sole reason for purchasing this unit is so that I can watch movies with headphones; I live in an apartment so I avoid creating noise.

Pros: Very compact size

Cons: I cannot get it to pair with my bluetooth devices, save for the very one I do not want to use; a Griffin Technology Twenty that controls my stereo speakers.

Crutchfield response on 5/2/2018 Once we saw this review, our Tech Support team reached out to Ramon to help him further. We'll either help him get the bluetooth working the way it should, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.

Sony BR player works great

Gary from Katy, TX on 4/8/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This BR player works fine for BR and DVD so far. I like the Smart TV stuff; Netflix worked OK and Prime streaming will be tried next. I'm hoping the CD and SACD will give me satisfaction in a mid-range system. This secondary system in the office doesn't have the super components (like the main HT system) and this Sony BR player fits in great with everything else.

Pros: Small but full of functions. DVD's look great on 2560 x 1440 monitor with the upconversion. SACD capability is not usually found at this price point.

Cons: none

The simple solution to Blu-ray quality video.

Richard from Painesville, OH on 3/5/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The simple solution to Blu-ray quality video with upscaling ability. The SONY BDP-S6700 is not the top of the line Blu-Ray player, but it is a great way to add Blu-Ray capability to a "streaming video world." You may not use your existing Bly-Ray collection as much as you once did, but with this very economical Blu-Ray player you can add disc capability to your streaming video equipment without "breaking the bank." The set-up is quick and don't get me wrong, it is a great little player. Does everything I want AND more. It is like adding a "smart TV " to my system without buying a new Smart TV. I have purchased 2 of these over the past few months because it is value priced and does everything I want.

Pros: Economical, small in size, large in ability. Simple set-up.

Cons: Not true 4K, it is upscaling to 4K.

We bought 2!

Tom from Waterloo, IL on 2/25/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is now our 2nd dvd of this model in our house. Wife wanted to watch Netflix and Hulu in our bedroom. With the built in WiFi hook up was a breeze and with the Bluetooth capability we can watch tv without disturbing the other while they sleep. This feature is great when your kids are watching tv in the living room and you want some quiet as well. I would suggest a pair of JBL's from Cruthfield of course.

Lovely Box

Melanie from San Pedro, CA on 1/10/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just set it up today, and that was almost plug and play, with a few on-screen instructions to approve and selections to make. WIFI set up was instant with the wifi connect button on my router. It has a tiny footprint, front loads and with the right HDMI cable (Crutchfield had it), it talks to y Sony TV and external speakers automatically, while the TV remote can also run the DVD. Bravo too on the apps and internet/netflix/MLB streaming even without a hard-wired LAN connect. Crutchfield even matched the price on Amazon and let me use my Crutchfield bucks to help pay.

Pros: Easy set up, auto connect with Sony devices. Price.

Cons: Not yet

Awesome Blu-Ray Player

Thomas from Houston, TX on 10/11/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome upgrade from my 6-year-old blu-ray player. Initially, I was put off by the footprint of the device -- it's just a square. But there is a lot of power under the hood, so to speak. The BDP-S6700 has improved processing and memory over the BDP-S480. It's quicker to start up and easily handles basic navigation through the on-screen options. Blu-ray discs play back flawlessly. The error correction has improved, and discs that generated errors on my old blu-ray playback without errors (or a greatly reduced incidence of errors) on this machine. This is really a streaming device that happens to play Blu-Ray and CD discs. If you are watching an online show, this player has the memory and processing to quickly rewind, stop and playback with ease.

A lot of value for the price

Gil from New Port Richey, FL on 8/13/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, I like it. I can see a definite improvement in picture quality. I like having the ability to install my own apps, such as Pandora. The problem I experience is when I move from Pandora back to Netflix. It's not seamless. I need to restart to unit. In the old days, we'd receive manuals. I'm sure I'll work it out some day, but for now it's too fussy. It's a lot of value for the price.

Pros: Quality. Price.

Cons: Fussy moving between apps.

Sony BDP-S6700

Straz from Allenton, WI on 8/9/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used this to up-grade a 10 DVR, blown-away by increased speed/performance. Box is tiny compared to old unit, discs boot-up 10x faster also. Have no need to use Netflix et al, can't comment. But picture quality exceeded expectations, performance outstanding, compact & priced great...completely satisfied. As always Crutchfield's service is excellent, ordered Friday had it Monday. Called w/ a question after product arrival, CS rep responded immediately clearing-up any confusion.

Pros: Ultra-compact. Fast. Excellent picture quality. Price cannot be beat.

Cons: Next step-up model comes w/ a HS HDMI cable. THIS model does not; and, while it states this it's also all-too-easy to overlook. Minor, but important also. Why in the world Crutchfield doesn't flag [this] at checkout is beyond me. Crutchfield unnecessarily missed a sale as I would've surely purchased one.

One Smart Box!

Josh from Dearborn, MI on 8/7/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This blu ray player does a lot for its size, which is very small, and lived up to my expectations. All of the smart apps, netflix, youtube, etc..., was exactly what I needed to turn my projector essentially into a "smart" projector. The interface is very intuitive to use, and very well laid out. 3D works great out of the box, and the player has lots of settings to maximize picture quality right out of the box; One box to do it all!

Pros: - Compact Size - Functionality - 3D capabilities - Smart functions - Excellent User Interface!

Cons: - Lacked support for VUDU (high quality streaming service)

Everything as expected

Rob from Redondo Beach, CA on 7/16/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I primarily bought this player because my components are in a closed cabinet and I wanted something that didn't need an IR remote. The wifi remote app capability of this unit, plus good review and Sony brand sold me. Unfortunately There is no documentation for how to install the remote app. After a bunch of web searching, I found out it is called SideView. Easy to install/set up once I knew which app to use. Super easy setup out of the box and player works as expected Haven't streamed much with it, I have AppleTV for that, but it seems to work ok. SideView app gives only really basic functionality while playing a movie (start, stop, pause. No fast forward/rewind). I accidentally put two in my cart and didn't realize until I got my shipping confirmation. Crutchfield had my RMA to me before the units even arrived. Great service.

Pros: Easy setup Good value

Cons: Limited WiFi remote app functionality

Michael from Morrisville, NC on 6/16/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been using the Sony BDP-S6700 for two weeks now and I'm impressed with the product. Setup was very easy and straight forward. I've been using a Sony Playstation 3 for a BluRay player for quite some time but it died and this was the replacement. It was very easy to move the cable to the new system. Quality seems to be just a bit better, but both were 1080p anyway. Don't have a 4k TV, so haven't tried the up-scaling feature. The Apps are sufficient for the services I use, mainly YouTube, Hulu, and Amazon. Very happy with this purchase.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Dear Crutchfield staff and management: I was very impressed with 3 outstanding points of care. The first was the ability to discuss in detail my present electronic issues and how to work through them with your knowledgeable staff. The second was how quickly the electronics arrived at my door step (two days) unprecedented!. And the third was the quality of the item received, excellent and with no regrets or buyers remorse. After talking with your staff I went back to your website and read your history and afterwards I felt a ping of joyful envy for the employees working there. You present a family atmosphere and not a corporate one and that is so refreshing now-a days. Thank you so much and when the time comes for my next purchase all I have to do is to look into my favorites bar to find you! With much appreciation from one of your many happy customers; Russell

DISAPPOINTED

Jerry from Indiana on 3/27/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The picture quality is very good. However, the machine freezes up very often. You have to unplug and replug quite often. And then reconnect to the wireless network. This happens several times a day. I would not recommend this product in the long run. I watch a lot of apps on my television through this machine. And so I was depending on something more reliable in the way of keeping connected to the wireless network in my home.

Pros: Good picture quality

Cons: Freezing. Too many unplugged and replugged to make machine stop freezing. A lot of network connecting over and over again.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Until I bought this new Sony BDP-S6700, my old Sony Blu-Ray player would not play some of the newer discs (even after upgrading the firmware). Note that my old player was at least 10 years old and did not have integral wireless internet. The new player was very easy to set up. It is compact, has a strong connection to the internet, and has a great picture quality. I am partial to Sony products and this one is a really good player for the price in my opinion.

Sony products are my go to...this doesn't disappoint. A very inexpensive way to make your otherwise fine TV intelligent. Not 5 stars because of the remote entry system when signing in to apps. Setup is super easy !!! Thanks for the deal Crutchfield !!!

Pros: Easy move to smart TV Easy setup

Cons: Remote form entry

Plays home burned blu-rays great

MajorEvent from Massapequa, NY on 2/19/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a lot of blu-rays I burned myself and my last player, a Samsung, had trouble playing many of them. This Sony has played everything I've thrown at it. The unit is small in size but big in features. Pretty fast start up and bitstreams HD Audio to my receiver.

Pros: Plays all the disks I've tried including inexpensive home burned blu-rays.

Cons: 4K upscaling instead of actual 4K output.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Start-up time for the blu-ray discs are much quicker than before. Was hoping to get 4K player, but Sony still not offering cost effective model. This unit will replace another older model, as an up grade in the near future. (Great staff at Crutchfield, make purchasing simple.)

Pros:

Cons: Audio is slightly limited by digital outputs which will require me to purchase a DAC to use it with my older receiver.

Great little DVD player!

David from Wallkill, NY on 2/5/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needed a DVD player that would hook up with my older Sony receiver that has no HDMI inputs. This hooked right up and works perfectly. I also like the USB slot and the Bluetooth. Very happy with this product.

Pros: I like the USB input and Bluetooth. Also the coaxial output comes in handy when hooking up to an older Sony receiver without HDMI.

Cons: None so far.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replacement for a Samsung POS that all of a sudden just stopped working (black screen using any input) Still not convinced that this idea of no information on the front of a unit and only onscreen is the right approach for any of these Blu-Ray players but that seems to be the approach. At least this unit (unlike the Samsung) has a power light (tiny green little thing) that at least lets you know whether you should see something on the screen or not. Regarding this unit, so far, so good. There is a setting in the options to allow fast start (boot?)) and I must say, it is great. (Less than 10 seconds) Everything else seems fine, plays Blu-ray discs, DVD, and CD with no problem. I don't use the streaming features (Have a Roku and a Kodi box) but I have it hooked up to my internet for updates and it seems to work fine. The remote is tiny but perfect and has all the options one needs in a small unit. I have a Sony flatscreen and that remote (after a quick programming) manages the BDP player fine also.

Pros: Small footprint Runs cool to touch wireless and wired connectivity fast-boot option small power light on front of unit

Cons: Information is only available on screen (No information presented on unit)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needed to replace my 5 y.o. Oppo 93 because the laser kept freezing, apparently common per online complaints. Oppo wanted too much money plus elaborate shipping to fix it. Call me old-fashioned, but a bluray at this price should function for a decade or more, & a common glitch should be fixed for free. Anyway...My new Sony has identical picture quality and bluray sound. I have not yet tried it w/Pandora. The Oppo had a great DAC which made Pandora streaming above average. Possible update. Some of the lower priced Sonys seem to be identical, except (I mean EXCEPT) they do not play SACDs. This does, which is important if you know that SACDs are superior to most downloads. Also plays bluray Audio discs, a great format strangled at birth, though Neil Young released Americana in it, & the Norwegian classical label 2L has several titles. But SACD is just as good. Medium-sized negative: As others have noted, no front plate info, no track #, no timing, no nothing. If you listen to Vivaldi or Telemann concertii, which do kind of sound the same, better keep your watch handy. Or keep your tv monitor on just to listen to music. This is not a great time to upgrade to UHD. You would need a new tv, new speakers, new receiver, and a new bluray player. And there are only about 120 UHD blurays available. And while netflix & youtube say they have 4K, it all hangs on their bandwidth, which is not adequate unless you live in Japan. So this Sony is ok until UHD settles down.

Pros: cheap

Cons: cheap

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very pleased with the Sony BDP-6700 and with the product selection assistance from Mick at Crutchfield. I was looking for advice on purchasing a 4K upscaling player and was choosing between the Sony and Samsung players. I am an early adopter of most video equipment and can't believe the value of this player compared to what I paid for my first DVD player (much smaller in size and price.) I replaced an older Sony Blu-ray player which now serves in our guest room. As others have noted, setup is very quick and easy (HDMI directly to Denon AVR.) The wifi is much easier to setup, faster and I find the apps (primarily Amazon and Netflix) easier to access than on my Samsung 4K television. Maybe it's my imagination, but I think the upscaling does make my Blu-ray discs look much better. Overall, very pleased!

Pros: Great picture Fast, easy to setup WIFI Compact size

Cons: None noted

Product was easy to set up. As I have an older receiver, I do not use it as the controller for my surround system, therefore I needed an RCA cable to connect the sound from the DVR directly to my receiver. This is not included. I would also recommend the high speed HDMI cables when hooking to a 4K TV, which I have. These are also not included.

This is a wonderful unit that does everything well at a great price. I love the fact that can play my SACDs. The only downside which is why I didn't give this unit five stars is that there is no display on the unit itself ( the unit only displays on your TV screen).

Pros: Easy setup, great picture, and one of a few players that can play a SACD

Cons: No display on front of unit

No 4k, Locks-Up Consistently

Chris from Hollywood, FL on 12/17/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Picture quality is good, but even with a new Sony 55" 4k (XBR-55X850D) and checking all menu / setup selections on both units, still not getting anything over 1080p. Passing HDMI thru a Pioneer Elite SC-97, which outputs Comcast Cable Box input (nearly or all channels) at 4k (not a fan of Comcast, so that surprised me) - so apparently not a limitation imposed by the Surround Receiver. What am I missing?? Plan on playing with more, maybe trying a different HDMI Cable out of BDP-S6700 and/or re-checking all menu options. Other issue, happens every single time I play a CDR, BDP-S6700 locks-up when done playing disc, even power does not work, have to unplug AC power from player to resume any kind of operation. All things considered, I am not thrilled with unit.

Pros: Plays Blu-Ray discs

Cons: No 4k, Locks-Up Consistently, no display, limited connections

May consider something else

Sony does a great job with Blu-ray players. The BDP-S6700 is a very compact unit, was extremely easy to set up, connected to my wi-fi immediately and was very intuitive to use. I bought it more for the streaming capability rather than to watch actual blu-ray disks and I'm very happy with the way the streaming works. So far so good! Highly recommended.

Good All Around Player

Leon from Griffin, GA on 10/2/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sony BDP-S6700 is a good all around Blu-ray/dvd player. However things are missing for me thus the 4 stars. Player does not have a window to view time of viewing media, media type, nor starts video at last viewed. My older player has these and I liked that very much. Being Sony it was easy to install, update software, and connect to my Sony Smart TV so all is well in my entertainment world. Bottom line a little pricey for what you get since I have a smart tv with the internet connections and Goggle Play aps.

Pros: Easy connect and interaction to Smart TV. 4k media ready whenever that happens. Plays MP3 on media stick.

Cons: Price for what you get already having a Smart TV so internet apps not necessary.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this product for my wife. I set it up before letting her use it. For the money it is very simple DVD player to get use to. I showed her the basic operations and she was able to catch on quickly for someone who hates new equipment. I showed her how to use the streaming aspect which I thought worked very well. She has had no complaints and uses it without assistance. A very good simple piece of equipment for those wo are afraid of electronics.

Pros: Easy to use unit.

Cons: None found yet compared with the price of the unit.

I am very pleased with my purchase so much so I ordered another to replace a year old Panasonic.

Pros: Small, Fast, Easy to use. Can't comment on 4K as I am not there yet.

Cons: Short of output options.

Small, simple and it works.

Anonymous from Omaha, NE on 5/18/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Had this for a few weeks now, works just fine. There is nothing to it -- it's small and it plays DVDs and Blue Rays. Am not able to try out the 4K upscaling because, wait for it, I don't have a 4k TV. Only reason for 4 stars is do to the lack of connectivity/output options, but I knew that going in. As long as this lasts a couple years I will consider it a solid purchase.

Pros: Small and it works

Cons: Lack of connectivity options

Disc & USB Compatibility

Disc Compatibility: The Sony BDP-S6700 Blu-ray disc player is compatible with many disc types:

Disc Type Disc Description
Blu-ray BD-ROM, BD-3D, BD-R, BD-RE
DVD DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW
CD CD-Audio, CD-R, CD-RW, SACD

Blu-ray Disc: Blu-ray provides these key features and advantages.

  • 1080p Video Resolution: Blu-ray disc delivers full 1080p video resolution to provide pristine picture quality.
  • 25GB/50GB Capacity: Blu-ray disc offers up to 5x the capacity of standard DVDs; 25GB for single layer disc and 50GB for dual layer disc.
  • 7.1ch Audio: Blu-ray disc provides as many as 7.1 channels of native, uncompressed surround sound for crystal-clear audio entertainment.
  • Enhanced Interactivity: Enjoy such capabilities as seamless menu navigation, bonus features, and network/internet connectivity.
  • DVD Compatible: Blu-ray disc players enable you to continue to view and enjoy your existing DVD library.
Note: The BDP-S6700 plays Region A Blu-ray discs and Region 1 DVDs. Blu-ray Disc uses the Advanced Access Content System (AACS) to prevent unauthorized recording of copyrighted material.

Firmware Updates: Occasionally, Sony may release updated firmware for this unit that may add or improve the way a feature operates. These updates are available free of charge. This unit is capable of checking the firmware automatically when connected to the Internet via broadband connection. Visit the Sony eSupport Site for the latest firmware update information.

SACD: Super Audio CD use a technology called Direct Stream Digital (DSD) to convert music into a digital signal that can be stored on a disc. Compared to the traditional PCM method (the technology used for CD), DSD offers a much higher resolution by following more closely the original waveform of music. With a frequency response of over 100kHz and a dynamic range over 120dB across the audible frequency range - some 64 times higher resolution then CD - Super Audio CD offers music reproduction that reveals details you just cannot hear on a normal CD.

USB Port:  The front-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to play photo, videos, and music files on a connected USB device. The player can recognize Mass Storage Class (MSC) Devices that are FAT-compatible and Still Image Capture Devices (SICD) class devices. The player can recognize up to 500 folders/files. The USB port also allows you to enjoy additional content (such as BonusView) on certain Blu-ray Disc titles. Some BD-ROMs have bonus content and other data which can be downloaded to an inserted USB Flash Drive (minimum 1 GB recommended, sold separately).

Compatible Audio/Video/Photo Formats: The Sony Blu-ray disc player supports playback of the following audio/video/photo files recorded on BD-R/RE, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, and CD-R/RW discs; plus compatible USB memory devices.

Media Format File Type
Audio MP3, WMA, AAC, AIFF, ALAC, FLAC, WAV,
Video AVCHD, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Motion JPEG, WMV9, XVID
Photo JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP

Video Section

HDMI Output: The BDP-S6700's HDMI output simplifies A/V connections by carrying video and digital audio in one cable. The HDMI resolution can be fixed at 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, 4K, or set to Auto (which selects the highest resolution accepted by your television).

  • 4K UHD Upscale: Experience your favorite movies in up to 4x the detail of Full HD with 4K upscaling. Connected to a compatible 4K TV, an advanced video processor inside the Blu-ray player converts standard video into a signal nearer to 4K resolution (3840 x 2160). With 8 million pixels in the picture, you get sharper, more detailed images, and the higher image quality lets you sit closer to the screen.
  • 4:4:4 Color Subsampling: The Blu-ray player supports 4:4:4, 4:2:2, and 4:2:0 color subsampling. An "Auto" setting detects the connected TV type and switches to the matching color setting. With 4:4:4, luminance (brightness) and chroma (color) are sampled at the same rate, resulting in an RGB color palette as big as the video sampling rate for a video image with more total colors, plus greater color accuracy and detail.
  • 24p Output: Movies are typically recorded on film with a frame rate of 24 frames per second. When a movie is transferred to Blu-ray Disc at 24 frames per second the BDP-S6700 will output that signal to the TV (if the TV will accept the 1080p/24 format) with no need for conversion.
Note: This player does not offer any analog audio/video outputs.

3D-Ready w/ 2D-3D Conversion: The Sony BDP-S6700 lets you enjoy 3D Blu-ray disc movies in full HD 1080p. 3D viewing requires compatible 3D content, 3D-ready HDTV, 3D emitter and glasses, and a high-speed HDMI cable (supporting at least 10.2 Gbps) connection. The Sony BDP-S6700 can also convert 2D (two-dimensional) video content into simulated 3D (three-dimensional) video when connected to a 3D-ready TV, with 3D-glasses. You can make adjustments to the 3D image depth.

Advanced Color Technologies: The Sony BDP-S6700 Blu-ray player features Sony's proprietary Triluminos Color technology & Super Bit Mapping, as well as supports Deep Color.

  • Triluminos Color: The BDP-S6700 incorporates Sony's Triluminos Color technology to provide a wider color gamut with rich, authentic color and a far more natural viewing experience with a heightened sense of depth.
  • Super Bit Mapping: Super Bit Mapping reduces color banding by smoothing the gradation of video signals.
  • Deep Color: The Sony Blu-ray player supports a color depth of up to 12 bits. Connecting the player and a TV that supports Deep Color via HDMI allows more accurate color reproduction than when connecting it to a TV that does not support Deep Color. The Deep Color function can be set to 10-bit, 12-bit, 16-bit, Auto, or Off.

IP Content Noise Reduction Pro: See it all clearly with IP Content Noise Reduction PRO, a combination of picture technologies. Noise reduction enhances low-resolution web videos, while HD Reality Enhancer does pixel-by-pixel analysis for texture and color definition. Enjoy more lifelike images with improved contrast thanks to Pure Picture Control, and smooth color gradation from Super Bit Mapping

Video Settings: The BDP-S6700 offers the following video adjustments:

  • Picture Quality Mode: You can select from 3 preset pictures settings (Direct, Brighter, Theater, Auto, or Custom) for different lighting environment. The Custom mode lets you adjust the contrast, brightness, color, and hue manually.
  • Texture & Contrast Remaster: Texture Remaster adjusts the sharpness and detail of the edges, while Contrast Remaster automatically arranges the black and white levels so that the screen is not too dark and the image is modulated.
  • Super Resolution + Smoothing: Super Resolution improves the overall resolution of picture. Smoothing reduces on-screen banding by smoothing gradations on flat areas.
  • Clear Black: Adjusts the display of the dark elements of the image. All shading is not suppressed; it allows beautifully reproduced black tones.
  • Noise Reduction: BNR reduces the mosaic-like block noise in the picture, MNR reduces minor noise around the picture outlines (mosquito noise), and I/P to enhance the picture quality of streamed network content.

Screen Settings: The Sony BDP-S6700 features the following screen settings:

  • TV Type: You can select a 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio for the unit's video output to match your connected Television's screen aspect ratio.
  • Screen Size: For 3D viewing, you will need to set the screen size of your 3D-compatible TV.
  • Screen Format: You can select the display configuration for a 4:3 screen picture on a 16:9 wide screen television. You can choose Full or Normal (select when connected to a TV with a wide mode function; displays a 4:3 screen picture in 16:9 aspect ratio even on a wide-screen TV) or Normal (changes the picture size to fit the screen size with the original picture aspect ratio).
  • DVD Aspect Ratio: You can select the display configuration for playback of 16:9 screen pictures on a 4:3 screen TV. You can select from Letter Box or Pan & Scan

Cinema Conversion Mode: The Sony Blu-ray player offers two Cinema Conversion Modes - (1) Auto mode automatically detects whether the material is video-based or film-based, and switches to the appropriate conversion method. (2) The Video mode is suited for video-based material and will always be selected regardless of the content.

BonusView: The BonusView feature provides picture-in-picture capability with select Blu-ray Disc titles. You can view addition content (such as director/actor commentary) in a small display window while the movie is playing.

Audio Section

Surround Sound Decoders: The BDP-S6700 has built-in Dolby Digital and DTS surround processors; multi-channel PCM Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution, and DTS-HD Master Audio are output through the HDMI jack (when encoded on the Blu-ray Disc).

  • Dolby Digital Plus: Dolby Digital Plus was developed as an extension to Dolby Digital. The audio coding technology supports 7.1 channel surround sound. Dolby Digital Plus also includes the standard Dolby Digital bit stream and is compatible with all current Dolby Digital processors using the coaxial digital output.
  • Dolby TrueHD: Dolby TrueHD is a lossless coding technology that supports up to 8 channels of multi-channel surround sound for the next generation optical discs. The reproduced sound is true to the original source bit-for-bit.
  • DTS-HD High Resolution Audio: DTS-HD High Resolution Audio supports a maximum sampling frequency of 96 kHz, and 7.1 multi-channel surround. DTS-HD High Resolution Audio has a maximum transmission rate of 6 Mbps, with a lossy compression.
  • DTS-HD Master Audio: DTS-HD Master Audio has a maximum transmission rate of 24.5 Mbps and uses lossless compression (Lossless), and DTS-HD Master Audio corresponds to a maximum sampling frequency of 192 kHz, and maximum of 7.1ch.
Note: Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD are only output via the player's HDMI output.

Digital Music Enhancer: Breathe new life into your digital music with Digital Music Enhancer; a combination of three Sony audio technologies. DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine), Dynamic Range Recovery, and Advanced Auto Volume combine to restore detail and prevent volume jumps. The result is immersive sound and maximum impact for dialog, movies, and music.

Audio Settings: The BDP-S6700 allows you to adjust the following audio settings:

  • AV SYNC: Synchronize the picture and sound by delaying the audio output in relation to the picture output; 0 to 120 milliseconds.
  • Audio DRC: The player offers three dynamic range compression levels - Auto, On, Off.

Digital Audio Outputs: The BDP-S6700 is equipped with a coaxial (RCA) digital output. The Audio menu allows you to select the digital audio format that is passed through the coaxial digital output. Settings allow you to transfer Dolby Digital and/or DTS sound tracks, or down-mix surround bitstreams to 2-channel PCM audio.

Network/Internet Functions

Dual Core Processor: A powerful Dual Core Processor ensures fast, lag-free performance. Web pages load more quickly, movies and media such as YouTube videos stream faster, and playback appears noticeably smoother. Even navigation is quicker and more responsive, so you can enjoy a frustration-free entertainment experience.

Wired or Wireless Network Connection: The Sony BDP-S6700 Blu-ray player supports a wired or wireless network connection. Via the Blu-ray player's network connection your can enjoy music, video, and still-image files stored on your computer. • Ethernet (LAN) Jack: The Sony BDP-S6700 Blu-ray player is equipped with an Ethernet (LAN) RJ-45 jack for connecting the player to your home network and computer.
  • Built-in Wireless LAN: The Sony Blu-ray player also features built-in WiFi which allows you to wirelessly access the Internet and your home network. A new dual-band 2.4/5.0GHz WiFi module compatible with MIMO provides improved stability and speed performance for a better streaming experience. With this feature, you can easily connect to a wireless LAN and enjoy the benefits of networking in a cable-free environment. A wireless connection requires a home network with an 802.11 b/g/n access point (802.11n recommended) and internet connection. Supports WPS, WEP, and WPA security.

Note: A home network speed of at least 2.5 Mbps is recommended (10 Mbps for HD content). Video quality and picture size vary and are dependent upon broadband speed and delivery by content provider.
