    Makes my friends jealous!

ImpressedBuyer from Charlotte, NC on 7/5/2012

I absolutely love this sound system. I have had it for 3+ years and it still sounds great! Sub-Woofer/Bass is amazing! Adjustable settings so you can make it sound perfect for your room/ environment. Will rock your room without blowing speakers. I love having friends over to play some good BF3 (Battlefield 3) or watch Sports! Can hear every single instrument. But the best part of it all is a got a Sony Bravia and this sound system for just $500 ... gotta love it!

I got this because I already heard it at my uncle's place and really liked it. Its clean and sounds nice. There are enough sound options to adjust to find a tone that works. I mostly watch Dish-TV and play PS3 games with this TV and I don't have the space for a full blown surround sound system. Voices are clear, bass is strong and the rest of the audio is much cleaner and more well defined than before. Setup was confusing, I don't understand why, if HDMI carries both audio and video, do I need to run an optical cable from the TV back to the sub to get my sound. Shouldn't the HDMI cables from the PS3 and the DISH box carry the audio to the sub already? All in all this is a really sweet system that delivers great sound in a good looking package.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Sony Sound Bar was chosen to mate with a new 50" Samsung Plasma TV. It is excellent! It performs just the way I wanted. That is, when set at a low volume I still hear the base woofer, but it isn't over powering. The overall range is excellent. It comes with a remote that allows you to set the sound bar to various presets like movie, games, music as well as level mode. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a sound bar that performs excellently in a middle size room without breaking the bank. I also highly recommend Crutchfield as an excellent on-line source for electronics. This was my first purchase from them and it was flawless.

    Good solution for smaller rooms

Tom from North Jersey on 1/13/2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this system to replace my old 5.1 system. Was not even using the surround speakers- room wasn't big enough to justify. Pros: -Very impressed by the sound quality- fills the room nicely and imitates surround sound quite well. -Plenty of inputs for hi-def components -punchy bass (when sub is turned up) -A/V synch- hook all your HDMI components thru this unit- say goodbye to the sound being out of synch with the video. Cons: -No standard def video inputs. Bad if you have a VCR, DVD (non-blu ray) player, or Nintendo wii. (no s-vid, composite, or component inputs) -Only one RCA audio input. Could use more- I have a record player & Wii- both use RCA audio cables. -fine tuning the sub levels requires fumbling with remote & menus. Should have a one touch sub adjustment button on remote! Come on! Summary: If you are looking to de-clutter but don't want to give up good sound- go with this unit. Just keep in mind the connection limitations if you have components using standard def video & RCA audio cables. You will still have to plug directly to your TV for those. Overall- I am happy with my purchase. Thank you Crutchfield!

Can you imagine a home theater system without adjustable tone controls and only 6db adjustment to set the levels between the sub and main speaker? This thing sounds like a 250 watt thumping "Boom Box" with a few useless sound fields. The TV speaker provides better sound. Crutchfield support was no help in search for tone controls/set up - two calls and two reps - no help. Forget Sony support! Their service rep (Foreign) claimed TV tone control would work if audio was output direct from TV to Home Theater via separate cable bypassing HDMI cable. It doesn't.

I purchased this unit to use with my 32" tv in my bedroom. The soundbar fits nicely snug up with the bottom of my tv set. The amount of bass is amazing and it actually sounds like the bass is coming from the soundbar. The simulated surround sound is pretty good too! I watched the "Fifth Element" on my bluray as my first test video. The sound was very crisp and the bass was tight. Don't worry ,you will be able to "FEEL" the explosions...don't let the size fool you. An adjustment on the remote can fine tune the sound if desired. I tried tuning the sound but for my bedroom the factory setting was fine.I had the unit setup in less than 5 minutes. Sony includes a nice optical digital cable and I plugged that into the tv for the tv sound. They don't include any hdmi cables :(... Sony covers all the bases with a good choice of inputs on the subwoofer. You can't go wrong with this setup and the impeccable Crutchfield service. I've been dealing with these fine people since the 70"s. So what are you waiting for? Go for it!

Another fine product from Sony. This Sony HT-CT100 sound bar system provides the quality of sound I was wanting and more than met my expectations. It was easy to install and the help received from Crutchfield's Levi was all I needed. The lack of running wires made the wife very happy, as installation is very neat. My Bravia TV, DVD and Sound Bar System are all Sony from Crutchfield and controled by one remote. What a set-up! Now its time to sit back and enjoy!

    Excellent for the Money

David from Akron, OH on 4/7/2009

I wasn't expecting the virtual surround to work - and it doesn't - but I did think that it would provide satisfying sound for my bedroom - which it does. This little unit is excellent for a smaller room such as a bedroom or den. If paired with a Sony Bravia TV such as my setup, the TV remote will seemlessly control both units which was an important factor in my purchase. It is a big upgrade over the TV speakers and sounds superb for the money. It's very compact, convenient and I bought it from Crutchfield. Enough said.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product is a great solution to avoid cords and wires everywhere. I will admit that the sound is not as good as much more expensive systems and I do miss the true "surround" sound. The actual sound bar is much smaller than comparible ones I have seen and fits seemlessly below my Samsung 550 series. In fact, it looks like it is a part of the TV. The sub-woofer is larger and does require a recommended 30" of clearance to its right side. All in all, for the money, ease of installation, and lack of clutter, this unit is very good.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this product after a recomendation from Greg at Crutchfield. It is super simple, sounds great, and if you're using Sony equipment, the Bravia Synch is fantastic. I'm glad I stayed with Sony since my TV is a Sony XBR. The simplity is just what I wanted, and everyone agrees the sound is great. I've heard better systems, with wires and speakers everywhere, and about $1000 more in cost. If you want a simple solution that gives you 95% of the performance.. this is it. Surround Sound Simulation seems real to us... airplanes seem to buzz right past your ears.

My dad, who is 73 yrs. old, loves it!

Randy from Electra, Texas on 3/17/2009

Very good looking piece of equipment! I think the 250 watts it says it has may be overrated because volume is good but not that good. Some of the surround sound settings are somewhat light in comparing to others I have heard. Having a new LCD TV and not having a lot of room for a large surround sound system, this, for the money, is the best and also by SONY, which is so very reputable. Mounting or simply placing sound bar in front of TV set is a cinch to set up.

    Super Sound for the Money

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like others have said in their reviews of the Sony HT-CT100, it's a great buy. Sound is just what we need for our small den. No more wires for rear speakers and no floor speakers at the sides of the entertainment system. Our system is connected via HDMI. Sound volume from television channels from our HD cable box is high. Our HT-CT100 volume level for enjoyable listening, for example, for the Fox News Channel and ESPN is anywhere from 20 to 25. (The HT-CT100 volume numbers go from 0 to 50.) Pretty much the same for the other cable channels. Now for DVDs and Blu-Ray discs from our Sony BDP-S550, we have to crank the sound up to 30 to 40, depending on the volume level recorded on the disc. ('Watched "Luther" last night; had to crank the volume level up to 40, and then, that wasn't too loud. ('Wish Sony had charged another $50 to $100 for a more powerful amp!) Hint: If your Blu-Ray or DVD player has a DRC setting, go ahead and set it to standard or TV mode, etc. On the HT-CT100, there is also a DRC setting (for audio compression). Set that to "Off." In other words, don't have audio compresson turned on for both the DVD player and the HT-CT100. DRC is only active when the audio encoding is Dolby Digital. So you don't need DRC (audio compression) for regular TV. I noticed sound level went down a little on TV channels with Dolby Digital when I had the HT-CT100 set to "STD." Recommend center speaker setting +4; subwoofer at -3, otherwise hard to hear voices.

    Fantastic solution

homel from Bolingbrook, IL on 3/10/2009

When I began looking for speakers for better sound for my TV, I decided that I didn't want to buy another receiver. I already have a surround sound setup with a projector. This was for a very small TV setup with a couple of game consoles, a cable box, and a blu-ray player. So I started looking at powered sound bars. I liked the Sony bar immediately because of the included sub and HDMI inputs. And the price. After I received the unit, I hooked it up with HDMI from my blu-ray and cable box, optical from my xbox 360, and RCA jacks for my Wii. I quickly found out that my Motorola HD cable box HDMI output is very quirky, so I want back to component cables and optical for audio for the cable box. The sound bar handles everything beautifully, and it really does sound great. Obviously it isn't like having full size speakers in a 7.1 configuration, but for what it is (SIMPLE!), it works great and sounds just as good. I wish I could change the names of the inputs on the display, but other than that I have no complaints. I'm very happy with all aspects of the unit. Can't beat it for the price.

    Great sound, but low volume

Saul from Victorville, Ca on 3/2/2009

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sony did a great job making a small inexpensive, (but doesn't sound inexpensive) speaker system with excellent sound. My only complaint is that the volume is too low, should be able to go up to at least 75 vice the current 50 volume setting. Everything else, ie, sound seperation, clarity, and bass sound like a much larger system. Plus the wife loves the lack of wires running all over the room. Can't go wrong with this system!

Dave from Northport from Long Island, NY on 2/7/2009

Didn't want lots of wires since this is a livingroom. Very easy set up. would have given it 3.5 stars if i could. volumne is good although you do have to put it on max for some channels. But its enough for me. One complaint is the dialogue. It could be louder. The music or other chatter in a move seems to overpower it. But overall its a pretty good inexpensive unit. A personal note, crutchfield is OUTSTANDING to deal with. Believe me when I say this, you cannot go wrong with them.

Bill from Cabins, WV on 2/5/2009

Dollar for Dollar this is an excellent sound solution. It is so simple to install and requires no long wire runs etc. With Sony sync. it blends right in with other sony products and allows one remote operation for all devices rather the the typcial clutter or remote controls.

Great Easy Sound System for Value

Rob from San Jose, CA on 2/5/2009

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed a good easy to setup speaker system at reasonable price. This Sony is easy on the pocket. It is easy to setup. It didn't even need a receiver. It is easy to use. And it sounds better than many brands that costs two to three times more. It has a great sub woofer and nice theater like sound quality. I didn't give five star because it doesn't have 5-star sound. It doesn't have clear channel separations, sometimes voice is hard to hear, sound doesn't have depth and most of all it lacks clarity. It sounds little like a cheap sound system set to high treble and loud. Also it would have been nice to have headphone jack in the front. But for this price, it beats most nine hundred buck system without needing a receiver. I am recommending it to anyone looking for a system less than a thousand bucks.

Rikki from Wichita Falls, TX on 2/5/2009

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ideal for bedrooms or smaller square shaped living rooms. Convincing 5.1 surround playback. Impressive bass and dynamic contrast for this price range. Only "negative" is that you have to cycle through several options to get to a particular setting (Sleep timer). I would've preferred a dedicated button(s) for some funtions, but that would lead to more clutter on the remote.

I am very happy with my purchase of the Sony HT-CT100. It has good sound, fills the room very well and takes up very little space. My biggest complaint about it, is that it is not a universal/learning remote. I can turn on the system and change the volume but that is about it.

Awesome sound for the price. The hook-up is super simple and fast. I wanted to streamline the 6.1 without sacrificing sound while the subwoofer provides dynamic bass. Granted it does not have the surround effect but there are no buying 3 rugs to hide wires. Sony has surpassed the satisfaction bar exceedingly. Great investment you won't be disappointed!

This unit will not deliver the true surround of a five speaker Pro Logic system but delivers a very good facsimile. It is the ideal system for small rooms and areas where rear mounted wired spreakers would be impractial. The main speaker is attractive and has very good tone and strong bass resopnse. The sub woofer is not as powerfull as I would have liked, but both woofer and main speakers will greatly enhance your listening pleasure over the speaker systems of your large screen TV's

    Its A Sony, Sham Wow!

Harlan from Elm Grove, WI on 1/27/2009

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, I'm very pleased for what this is. A solid self powered sounding, space saving TV enhanced speaker system that replaces the stock TV speakers. I would have given it five stars except for a couple smaller issues. 1) When turning this sound system on with other Sony brand compatibles, there is an annoying delay prior to: a) my Sony KDL32XBR4 picture appearing, b) the sound system is delayed of sound as well. I think that there is some interfacing "computer talk" going on. The Bravia Sync feature is worthwhile with other Sony components. i.e. the HDTV, etc... It allows coordination and less steps so all Sony components power up in sync together. The big thing is to ensure (if you have a cable set top box) that when using HDMI for the audio setting, the box knows this and is set so. Use the HDMI hookup(s). Follow the operations manual carefully. You'll need to use the included 8' optical audio cable for even the HDMI hookup. Other worthwhile features are the switching from the system back to the TV's own speaker when shutting down the Sony's sound system. Useful to use own headsets when wanting not to disturb others (like viewing, listening at bedtime). Plus the sound system has a sleep timer. Nice. A very good value for a smaller room like a bedroom and a HDTV. If you want something that replaces traditional lower quality TV sound, with a much higher level sound experience then this is it. It won't break your bank account either.

Kenny from Lawton, Oklahoma on 1/27/2009

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a sound bar with quality simulated surround sound for my 42" Samsung Plasma HDTV. I got with this Sony. Instructions were easy to follow with the initial set up, and I was up and running within 15 minutes. The sound from the sound bar is crisp and the sub woofer makes it all worth while. Remote is easy to use. Worth every dollar if you are looking for a economical system without the hassel of speakers and wiring from a 5-6 speaker surround sound system.

    A Little Disappointed

J Timothy from Holtsville, NY on 1/24/2009

Overall, I'm a little disappointed with the Sony HT-CT100. It was easy to setup, and it was great being able to connect so many HDMI devices to my TV, but the sound itself wasn't that great. The sub woofer is good, but I find that sometimes I have to turn up the unit really high to be able to hear the center speakers. Also the "separation" is nearly non-existent. I live in an apartment, so I can turn it up too loud, so maybe that is one of the problems. If you are limited with space, and don't want wires runnning all over the place, it is great, but don't expect super 5.1 sound separation coming out of it, because I don't hear it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just bought a new house with the dinning, kitcen and living area as one large room and really did not want to put speakers and wires all over the place. This fits the bill fine and has a very good clean sound. I use it on blue ray and hd satilite. It's not a 5:1 system but it really sounds good and the bass will rattle the windows if you turn it up. Would recomend it to anyone who wants a simple system without all the clutter. I compared it to a Bose 2:1 and could not see the justification for the price price of the bose.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If your looking for a good system at a low price, this is worth trying out. Granted, it is not a total surround experience but its great for being a compact unit. It has a decent sound bar and the bass is average. I used this system watching Transformers w/ blueray and I was very satisfied with it. Even with a open room, it delivers a respectable sound. For a smaller room/apt. it would be more than enough. Bottom line, I am satisfied with this product.

    Cons:

    Great alternative to 5.1

    Phil from Pennsylvania on 1/8/2009

This system is perfect for those of us that want great sound and bass, but don't want the hassle or expense of a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system. I have mine hooked up using all HDMI cables (2 cables in from a Comcast HD DVR and a PS3, and 1 out to my TV). I'm able to control the volume of the system with my Comcast remote as well. The sound bar is pretty thin and easy to hide away on a lower shelf under the TV, and with only one wire running to the subwoofer it makes for a much cleaner setup than with tons of wires running every where like you would have with a 5.1 system. When watching blue-ray movies (most recently was Wall-E) the sound is amazing, the subwoofer is great and will rumble your sofa without any distortion. There is a volume level difference between standard TV and HD, digital, or Blue-Ray, the standard definition volume is much lower, but hopefully that will go away after the February conversion to all digital. If you are looking for a good alternative to an expensive and messy 5.1 system, you can't go wrong with this Sony.

Good Home Theater - Lacks Aux input

Camilo from Fairport, NY on 12/30/2008

This Home Theater fulfils its duty as a good, small, sound solution for your TV/BD/DVD/PS3 setup. My only gripe is the lack of an aux input for MP3 players. It has a DM Port input to connect Sony's propietary DM Port accesories, but as of this review date, there are only accesories for Ipod or Sony Walkman... If you have another MP3 player then there is no way of connexting it to the sound system directly... Unless anybody knows of a solution or something I may be doing wrong, then this issue deserves the loss of one star on my review.

    Inexpensive Home Theater Option

Charles from Dallas, TX on 10/28/2008

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The CT100 is a great good looking product for a small home theater setup. Works especially well if you already have a main home theater room setup and want a secondary one in another room. The product can use Bravia Link to control connected devices so if you have a Sony TV and/or Sony DVD player with this feature, you can control them all with the CT100 remote. The sound from the CT100 is significantly better than from just a stand-alone Sony LCD TV. The included subwoofer really delivers. For the price, this system is an incredible bang for the buck.

Overview: The Sony HT-CT100 Component Home Theater System is a two-piece surround sound system which includes a front/center satellite speaker unit (SS-MCT100) and a powered subwoofer module (SA-WCT100). This two-piece home theater system brings simplicity and performance together by pairing a center/front speaker and a powered subwoofer to create a surround sound experience in a compact and easy to install package.

Front/Center Satellite Speaker Unit: The HT-CT100 Home Theater System's front/center satellite speaker unit (SS-MCT100) is equipped with 3 magnetically shielded 1-5/8" x 2-7/8" cone type drivers in a bass reflex enclosure. The front/center speaker unit features a 10' proprietary cable which plugs into the rear panel of the powered subwoofer module (SA-WCT100). The front/center satellite speaker can be securely placed on a stand or shelf using its eight rubber-feet or mounted to the wall with its two rear-mounted keyhole slots and mounting screws (screws sold separately). The SS-MCT100 act as your home theater systems front and center speakers as well as giving you the effect that you have rear speakers positioned behind you.

Powered Subwoofer Module: The HT-CT100 Home Theater System's powered subwoofer module (SA-WCT100) is equipped with a 6-1/2" cone type subwoofer in a bass-reflex enclosure powered by a built-in digital Sony S-Master amplifier. The built-in digital amplifier also provides power to the connected front/center satellite speaker unit (SS-MCT100). The digital amplifier is rated at 50 watts per channel for the front/center speaker unit and 100 watts per channel for the subwoofer. The powered subwoofer module also features the HT-CT100 system's inputs and outputs as well as basic controls and an LCD display. The SA-WCT100 is equipped with the following connections.

    • HDMI: The SA-WCT100 is equipped with 3 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output which supports x.v.Color as well as 1080/24p. The system can detect and receive the best possible video and audio signals from all connected devices via HDMI, making connection and performance as simple as plugging in a single wire. Sony's HDMI Active Intelligence, transmits both audio and video signals through one HDMI cable.
    • Digital Audio: The powered subwoofer module is equipped with 3 optical inputs and 1 coaxial input.
    • Analog Audio: The unit is also equipped with 1 pair of RCA stereo analog inputs.
    • DM Port:  Sony's DIGITAL MEDIA PORT (DMP) interface is a proprietary interface that adds networking and connectivity options to your home theater system. Just connect optional accessories (sold separately) which provide the ability to control and power devices while making set up easy and operation simple to use. The DMP will be compatible with various accessories which include a PC Client ready device (158TDMNC1, sold separately), and iPod Docking station (158TDMIP50, sold separately)
    • Proprietary Port: The powered subwoofer's proprietary port is used to connect the front/center speaker (SS-MCT100).

S-Force Surround: By using a powerful 100% digital Sony S-Master amplifier and DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology, realistic surround sound can be generated from this two-piece surround sound system. Unlike other "virtual surround" technologies, rear sound is generated from the front/center speaker using sophisticated digital sound processing and does not need to be bounced off of side walls. No matter what the size or shape of the room or what is on the wall, it is possible to hear sounds from behind you without needing to place speakers behind you.

Digital Surround Formats: The HT-CT100 supports the following digital audio formats.

    • Dolby Pro Logic II: Creates five full-bandwidth output channels from 2 channel sources.
    • Dolby Digital: All six channels in this format are recorded separately for superior channel separation.
    • DTS: Provides 5.1 discrete channels of high quality digital audio.
    • Linear PCM:  Linear PCM is a method of encoding audio information digitally which can have up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio. This wider bandwidth allows for high resolution audio which is closer to the original. This system can accommodate 2ch LPCM through its digital audio or HDMI inputs, as well as 5.1ch and 7.1ch LPCM through its HDMI inputs.

Note: This system does not support Dolby Digital Plus,, Dolby True HD, DTS-HD or Linear PCM sampling frequencies of no more than 48 kHz.

Sound Fields: You can select from one of the following sound fields to optimize your surround sound experience.

    • Standard: Normal Sound.
    • Movie: Powerful sound in which low-pitched sound is emphasized with enhance presence.
    • Music: Best for listening to music with full surround sound experience.

Audio DRC: This feature narrows the dynamic range of a Dolby Digital/DTS sound track for enjoying movies at low volume.

Max Volume Limiter: You can limit the maximum volume level of the system from 1 to 49 in 1-step increments.

BRAVIA Sync: When combined with a select number of BRAVIA televisions and other Sony audio and video products, control functions will be transmitted via the HDMI cable. With "One Touch Play," operations that took several steps have been reduced to one. Press the PLAY button on the remote, watch the audio and/or the video component(s) turn on then the BRAVIA television turn on and switch to the correct video input.

Wireless Remote Control: The HT-CT100 comes supplied with a full-function IR wireless remote control which is pre-programmed to operate other Sony audio/video equipment.
