I bought this widget but had to wait a considerable amount of time before having time for installation due to personal issues. When I finally got around to installation, it would not work, either in the vehicle or on the test bench with a lab power supply. Reinstalled the old stereo and threw this in the trash since it had been so long since purchase and it didn't work - ever.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very easy install, and with the install kit provided by Crutchfield, it was super easy. It went into a 1990 Dodge D250, with the diesel engine. So far, no issues with the vibrations in a rough riding truck! It replaced the original factory cassette unit. This unit has much better sound, and I have not had issues with the FM reception. I do live in a rural area as well. Since I like CD's and mp3's, FM reception is not a big concern.

    Pros: Easy install, great sound!

Cons: Buttons could be more intuitive, but once you get familiar with them, it's not so bad.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced a factory Chrysler unit with this unit and overall I am pleased with the performance and value. It was easy to install thanks to the instructions, wiring harness adaptor and installation kit that was provided with the receiver. There are a few things that could be better such as the button to remove the face plate is really close to the button to eject the CD and the FM tuner does not pick up stations as well as the factory unit. Those are minor things and as I said overall I am pleased with my purchase

Pros: Easy install , great sound for the money, everything you need is in the box

Cons: FM tuner could be better,

Installed very easily. Nice display. Antenna reception has something to be desired. Stock radio had better reception, so I'm ruling out an antenna problem.

    Pros: Simple adjustments. Priced right.

Cons: A lot of distortion after mid range of power. Don't know if it's the receiver or the new speakers. Need more power in a Jeep.

This receiver does everything I wanted it to do. My son and I installed this in a 1992 Miata replacing the original radio. (cassette player is now gone). Radio, CD player, USB connection, and aux imput. I found it interesting that this $100 receiver scrolls through a longer song title, while the $1,000 top end sound system in one of my other vehicles does not scroll. The install wasn't very difficult and Cruthfield's instructions were right on.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this unit in my 2002 Ford Explorer with Ford Wire Harness and install kit. Install was easy and took about an hour. Navigation on the system was good and intuitive enough for me to figure out on the fly. CD player player and radio have great sound. I also loaded up a bunch of mp3 on a nano USB drive and connected it to the unit with good sound quality. Navigation using the USB is ok, but could be improved with larger screen. For those with an Ipod, then you might want to get a unit that is fully compatible with an Ipod instead of using a USB drive. Overall I'm very satisfied.

Pros: Good value and Great sound. Navigation on unit is fine. Upgraded from stock 02' Ford Explorer stereo and it's a definite improvement. Easy Install. Very satisfied.

Cons: Navigation on USB drive is somewhat difficult because small screen. It's hard to show artist, album, song on a small screen at once. This unit does the best it can with small display. If USB connectivity is your primary use, then you might think about a double-din stereo instead.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you want to search for and listen to a certain artist or particular song on a USB stick, forget about it. When scrolling through music on a USB stick, it displays the folder and file number instead of anything useful. You can change what "tag" is displayed, but there is an unbearable delay before it shows this data.

Pros: Big buttons that you can read.

Cons: Searching for a particular song or artist on a USB stick is not practical. Reach for the CD. The display of tags from music on a USB device only shows up after a delay.

    Consider upgrading for FM reception

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am not an audiophile, but wanted a receiver with a front aux in, so I can play pandora from my droid phone. Before I went to Crutchfield, I bought one of those FM transmitters - it worked sorta okay - but for any long trips, it was a pain because you have to keep changing stations. I looked at Crutchfield, and chose this Alpine because I didn't need any special features, other than the aux input. My car required fairly extensive work to get it installed, and changing out a number of pieces that Crutchfield supplied, and it fits perfectly. I am returning it within the first 2 days and upgrading to the next one up which is the CDE 121. The CDE100 has very weak FM reception - the stereo light blinked on and off for most stations - the stock radio did much better. When I called Crutchfield, we tried to check the FM sensitivity spec - and it isn't even listed on the 100, even on Alpine's site. The 121 is 9.3, which the salesperson said was quite good. Of course, dealing with Crutchfield is a breeze, but highly suggest you get the next level up if you go with Alpine.

Pros: Controls are pretty intuitive, great price

Cons: The FM reception was quite poor

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This head unit is great, easy to install simple to use with out all the annoying extras. Cd player, Aux and USB are all you need these days. my only disappointment was the usb would not charge my iphone, i know it says not compaitible but i was still crossing my fingers that it might atleast charge it since its a standard usb. works perfect for thumb drive and the aux you can use anything to play music that has the standrad jack, iphone, ipod, zune, blackberry, even a portable tape player if you really wanted to haha. i recently had a cdplayer installed in a diff vehicle by bestbuy and was not going to pay that much money again. so i decided to just do it myself and im glad i did. it was a piece of cake. i am horrible with electronic wiring and stuff but was still able to figure this out with ease. crutchfield makes it easy with everything you need except you may wanna purchase some wire connectors. worked 1st try, love it

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome service from Crutchfield as usual, no complaints there. The radio works and sounds fine, but before you buy you need to understand that this is about as basic radio as you can get. Sure it has the USB port right in front, and that's nice of course, but the features and overall quality of the unit are on par with a stock radio out of an early 1990's Toyota. I had the only slightly more expensive CDE-102 in another vehicle and the difference is night and day. Even the plastic used on the CDE-100 looks and feels cheap and you can see light and dark "swirls" in it like a Chinese toy you'd see in the dollar store. Again, it sounds fine and I'm going to keep it, but if you're looking for even a modest upgrade over stock, the ONLY advantages this unit has are the USB port in the front and the pre-amp outputs in back. Other than that you're better off keeping your stock unit.

Purchased this unit mainly for the usb port. I did not want a unit with all the bells and whistles, just a good unit. Sounds great, alot of features, usb a plus. A minus is the radio has to be on for clock to show on display, no way to hook up wiring to keep clock on with unit off. But all-in-all a very nice unit for the price. Easy installation, be sure to get all the necessary items: face plate panel, wiring connector, antenna lead etc... Crutchfield is a 5 star company to business with. Great install sheets, support. Thanks Crutchfield!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my second Alpine and I am very satisfied with both. The CDE-100's FM reception is good and the controls are intuitive and easy to operate. The display is easy to read. Be aware that this unit does not have the parametric EQ that the more expensive Alpines have. However, the Bass&Treble controls and pre-programmed EQ presets offer enough flexibility to deliver good sound in most vehicles. Appreciated features are a CD loading slot that does NOT require flipping the faceplate down and front panel Mini Stereo and USB input jacks. Only negatives are the lack of more tone control and the lack of an automatic dimming feature for night use. Great radio and great service from Crutchfield (I've been a customer for almost 30 years)

Bill from West Chester, PA on 1/26/2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Economical replacement for a Porsche factory AM/FMCD tuner/player that had used a separate amplifier. Very good power, sound quality and FM reception, so-so AM reception even with an old style mast antenna. Straightforward but time consuming installation due to soldering of all connections....no plug in connector available. One criticism, the shiny surface where the display is shown glares in certain light conditions, perhaps a matte finish here would work better..

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have really enjoyed this cd player so far... it's features are nice and simple to use. The only thing I had a problem with was the sound quality when using the 3.5mm jack to play music from my smart phone. When I first got the unit I had no problems with the sound quality at all: I could have the sound all the way up on my phone and there would be no distortion. However, after having it for a week, it seems like the music quality from my phone has gone down the drain when I have the volume turned all the way up on my phone... I now have to turn the volume down to a bout halfway on my phone to be able to get a pretty crisp sound on my cd player, which then means I have to turn the sound on the cd player all the way up to hear. To Crutchfield's credit they are sending me a new unit. Once I get the new unit I will send the old one back in a pre-paid shipping box to them. So I won't be without a cd player/music for any time at all, and won't have to pay anything.... Way to go Crutchfield! This kind of customer service is what people want and keeps them coming back!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The CDE-100 is just what I was looking for. Smart and Simple. I did not want a stereo that I would need to pay out hundreds for useless features just to get 6 RCA outputs and a built in EQ. I installed this with a simple pre-amp EQ with 6 RCA outputs, fader, crossover and sub gain. Yes its "old school" but I love it. I enjoy driving and listening to my music again because I am not trying to navigate through senseless features that I will never use just to adjust my sound. Now my teenagers want this same system in their cars. At this price I can do it. I already have another CDE-100 ready to install.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit replaced a horrible Boss unit (my bad) the sound quality is substantially better, and the controls are functional even with a guy's big fingers. The front USB connection was one of the factors that drove my decision on it. I'm not one to remove the face plate, one of the Boss' problems was the controls stopped working apparently for a bad connection in the faceplate. The Alpine does not require opening of the faceplate to insert a disk, another good thing. If it only had an SD slot in the front it would be even better.

The CD player in my 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback was starting to go (backlights not working, lights behind a few buttons not working ,etc.) so I bought this and couldn't be happier. For an older car, this investment was well worth it, and the unit has everything - my personal favorite is the USB connection. I even bought a $10 USB key to hold only music for my car! I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard you can use the USB connection to charge electric devices, which (if true) will allow me to charge my iPhone or iPod from my stereo, saving me $$ from buying a cigarette adapter charger! Installation was simple, and Crutchfield does have the best customer service of any company I've worked with (I called a few times before and after ordering). The item was also shipped the same day I placed the order, and I received everything in 3 days. I would highly recommend buying the receiver wire harness so you can wire the unit in your house, then simply plug into your car.

Crutchfield instructions where great. Bought the suggested harness and made install a breeze, 20 minutes of soldering in the house and 20 minutes in the car on my first install. If soldering scares you easy to crimp it in. Had I known how good just the head unit was going to sound on factory speakers I would have not bought new speakers. The new speakers are nice but the head unit would have given me the jump that I needed. Easy to use, easy to install in 1998 corolla, and great customer support. Would buy stereo again and will never buy car stereo equipment any place else, had a couple of problems with other large retailers.

The Alpine CDE-100 is one of the best basic head units you can buy today. For the price it is PACKED with features. The USB port is great. It is very easy to find folders and songs with the USB drive. I don't use an IPod so I cannot comment on the quality of that feature, but this head unit has plenty of power, is laid out in an attractive, easy to use fashion, has a removable faceplate for security, and is Alpine, so you know it is built to last. It looks great installed in the dash of my 1998 GMC Sierra. I plan on adding an amplifier and two Kicker subs and we will see how it handles that, but for now with stock speakers it has met and exceeded my expectations. I have had Pioneer, JVC, and Sony head units and I can easily say that this is so far the best. For less than half the price of other head units sound quality is excellent and features are great!

I recieved the receiver and discoverd that it does not hook up to Alpine's iPod adaptor as advertised at the time. So, beware if you want to use this unit with an iPod. Other than that, I did not install the deck, but it appears to be a high quality Alpine product that's trustworthy. The good side is that Crutchfield made it right and exchange it for a deck that does accept the iPod adaptor at no cost to me. So, their customer service was stellar. Thanks for making it right.
