Big display and beautiful sound

Alpine's CDE-W265BT CD receiver fills your vehicle's double-DIN (4" tall") opening with an easy-to-read two-line display and easy-to-reach controls. And since Alpine puts great sound at the top of their "to-do" list when designing car stereos, you'll also enjoy some innovative technology for upgrading the sonic soundscape in your vehicle.

Once you download the Alpine TuneIt App Ver. 2.5 smartphone app to your iPhone® or Android™ smartphone, you can use the receiver's extensive sound adjustment capabilities to improve the acoustics in your car. You'll take command with a touchscreen interface that lets you adjust the 9-band parametric EQ yourself, or you can apply settings created by Alpine for your specific vehicle. You can even share your settings with other users through Facebook, and check out settings others have created for your vehicle.

Stream music, talk hands-free

If you've been less than thrilled with the sound of streaming audio in the past, Alpine's exclusive processing improves the sound of streaming music or stored music files sent from your device to the receiver. The CDE-W265BT lets you talk to Siri when your compatible iPhone is linked to the receiver, so you can keep your eyes on the road while you interact with your iPhone. And you can also tweak the phone output and ring volume ahead of time, so you won't go diving for the volume knob every time someone calls.

More cool options

If you're active on Facebook, this receiver will read the latest posts to you while you concentrate on the road (optional Alpine TuneIt App with text-to-speech capabilities required). And if you're tired of having your favorite FM stations fade away, you can add an optional SiriusXM tuner to enjoy the unparalleled variety of satellite radio, with music, news, sports, and talk programming that follows you wherever you drive.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

The wife loves it in her durango.

Installed in 2004 4runner. Great radio for the price. Purchased for the Front AUX and USB also the center volume control. Alpine Tuning App is incredible. This radio is hard to tune without it so definitely use it. Changed face color to match other gauges and instruments so it looks factory. Blue tooth connectivity is seamless.

Pros: Alpine tuning app, ability to change face color, front Aux and USB.

I returned my Kenwood single DIN for this unit and I am very happy with this unit. Well worth the extra money. I am in my 5O's and have little patience for small buttons with unreadable labels. This unit has big buttons, it's reasonably intuitive, a bigger brighter display that's readable in the day.... which was my biggest gripe about my Kenwood unit. I highly recommend this unit, especially for the older crowd! :)!

Pros: Bright Display, power, big buttons, intuitive

I am super impressed with this unit so far...installation was easy, and with the instructions sent by Crutchfield, even a novice could get it done. The BT features were what I was looking for and they will not disappoint. The tuner i's not as good as my factory unit, but they never are. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

2013 Chevrolet Silverado Installed in a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado with Infinity Primus speakers in all doors. Installation required some nipping away of the plastic dash structure behind the unit to make room for the plug ins (satellite radio, mic, and steering wheel controls) but not a problem. Sound is clear and detailed but requires patience to tune it to make it sound good. Recommend adjusting the MX Setting to Level 3 for all sources otherwise unit sounds weak. Adding an amp will help. The illumination of the 2 big square buttons is way too bright and makes the unit look tacky, especially at night. There is no way to dim them down. Integration with steering wheel controls works well with the CRUX GM-29 kit. The "power off" button would not be obvious to someone who never operated this radio before...it is not marked clearly and needs to be held for a few seconds to turn unit off. It is a bit arduous to change sources as you need to keep pressing the "Source" button to go through all sources to get to the one you want. Overall a good unit but could be made better with a few minor improvements.

Pros: Clear, crisp, detailed sound Good power even without amp Tune It app works well

Cons: Super bright buttons cannot be dimmed Patience needed to tune the unit User interface could be simplified

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price, and what I needed, this unit does the job. Solid build and quality. Easy to operate, and fully featured. My only complaint, which is why I only gave it 4 stars is that the unit only has one dimming level for the face illumination. It being up near the top of my Jeep dash, in direct sight, the lighting is so bright on the unit that it can be a distraction at night. Alpine definitely should've put more than one dimmer setting in the unit. Other than the illumination issue, the unit works and performs to my needs and expectations.

Pros: Fully featured, easy to operate, great price range.

Cons: Face illumination lacks multiple dimmer settings; it is overly bright at night.

This is a great unit. It is loaded with features and the quality of sound made a world of difference compared to the OEM unit in my vehicle (I also upgraded all my speakers as well). The Bluetooth connects quickly to your phone. One of the features my family likes is the ability to change the display and key colors. The manual is a little confusing but manageable....just spend some time playing around with all the settings and you will have top notch sounds coming from your vehicle. Alpine quality and reliability is second to none. I would recommend this unit to anyone.

Pros: Alpine quality, reliability, features and sound.

    2007 Honda Ridgeline
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this head unit this past weekend so i have limited experience with it, but here are my comments. 1)The owners manual is not real helpful and could use more diagrams and better instructions on the functions of the radio. Take the included CD and download the PDF owners manual on a laptop, ipad so you can play with the radio. 2)I prefer buttons and knobs as opposed to a touch screen and this radio did not disappoint. The station buttons are small however. The source button for tuner, XM, Pandora etc. is large and easy to use, however you have to scroll through the whole menu to get to your desired source unless its place is after what you are listening to. A forward/backward button would be nice. 3)This radio has poor AM reception compared to the factory unit it replaced. 4) The hands free phone is nice. Could use voice activated calling. 5)Plan your install. Know what you need to do first, second, etc. Especially when installing the phone mic and the XM unit/antenna. Have this stuff in place before you mount the radio, also make sure all connections are tight. I had to take things apart because my phone mic wasn't properly seated. 6)Install kit for my Ridgeline came with plastic mounting brackets to replace the factory brackets. You may need longer screws for the side of the radio. The brackets/kit were a little hard to figure out. I had to call Crutchfield 3 times for assistance. Radio sounds great, better than factory. More to add but ran out of..

Pros: Great sound, better than OEM radio. Functionality. Buttons instead of touch screen. Crutchfield was great in assisting with this install. Looks great.

Cons: Owners manual isn't great. Install kit was a bit confusing and mounting screws for OEM radio barely fit bracket template due to thickness of plastic. Learning curve figuring out settings, what button does what.

Works like a charm. The controls are simple and easy to use. The display is easily visible in the middle of the day. The install was smooth. YouTube helped me get through removal of the separate and additional amplifier on my Tundra which was the only difficult part of the installation. There were also extra wires that were explained on YouTube. The sound is good with the original JBL speakers but no better than the factory head unit and its separate amplifier. All in all no surprises and straight forward controls. Pretty much felt that what was advertised is what I got.

Pros: Simple controls. Installation was simple. Good sound.

Cons: None, but ask me in a year.

Back in April 2016 I purchased the Alpine CDE-W265BT along with the Alpine 500KTP445A, Polk 107MM571 front speakers, and Polk 107MM691 rear speakers. I love this combination. Using the EQ adjustments and the fader control of the CDE-W265BT and the awesome frequency response of the Polk speakers (deep solid bass, smooth midrange, and clear crisp yet smooth highs) I have been able to cause a four speaker system sound like it has a high power sub bass included. This 4 speaker system has the same deep rich sound quality as the Alpine powered 5 speaker system (45W x 4 head unit, 200W bridged sub bass) I have in another vehicle.

Pros: I love every thing about the Alpine CDE-W265BT, Alpine 500KTP445A, and the Polk 107MM571 and 107MM691 speakers.

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the most incredible car radio I have ever owned. The sound quality is absolutely fantastic ((I am using Focal speakers). There are more features in this car radio that you will ever use. I haven't touched half of these features. I left most of these at factory settings. The options are there if you want to play with them but personally, this radio does everything everything everything you could ever dream of. This radio is far better than the last 5 (top of the line) car radios that I have owned. There is absolutely no comparison between them.

Pros: This radio is the best of the best radios that I have ever experienced using or hearing in anybody's car. This one is the best of the best as far as I'm concerned.

Cons: Many of the features you do not need to use (just use the factory settings), but these features are there if you want to use them..You will probably need to be an audio radio Tech to understanding and to use them properly.

As some have already stated, the radio's user manual/cd disc is not the most user friendly to understand. But, once I got it figured out on my own, the radio is pretty simple to operate. The radio sounds just plain awesome----very pleased with the performance all around. Now, I'm going to add a compact subwoofer to add a just little extra low volume bass. At higher volume, the radio punches out plenty of bass all by itself. I've always heard and now agree that Alpine truly is a big step above the others. PS: You don't have to cut the rear support bracket out of a 2003 Silverado. It fits just fine.

Pros: Sounds fantastic, quality built, FM reception as good as or better than factory radio.

Cons: User manual could be somewhat easier to understand for old guys like me.

-The CDE-265BT has many features that aren't listed on any website I've seen. This unit comes with a "Stay On" feature. This means that you can choose for the radio to stay on from 5min to 30min after you've turned off the car! This feature isn't enabled by default and must be set manually. Once turned on and the desired time is selected, each time the car is turned off it pops up with a message that (paraphrasing) tells you to "Press 6 to keep the stereo on". If no selection is made, the unit powers off on it's own after around 15sec +/-. - (a) The Bluetooth works fantastically. After pairing my phone I can now keep it in my pocket, start the car and the music simply starts playing Spotify (the app I chose to use). The buttons on the stereo work allowing me to skip tracks/go back and play/pause without ever taking my phone from my pocket. (note that if I rest my left arm on my left leg atop my phone, the wireless connection is weak and intermittent) (b) Display show my phones Bluetooth status, cell signal strength and battery level on the lower right corner and is static. Overall I am very pleased. The sound quality even right out of the box is very good I am still playing with the more involved settings so expect that the sound quality will only get better. Even utilizing the OEM speakers the sound improvement was significant.

Pros: The double din unit looks great in my dash and fills the original space nicely. The wide range of display colors allowed me to match the other dash lights in my vehicle. Straight forward controls. The Bluetooth interface was easy to set up and it works well.

Cons: Very poor radio reception especially in the AM band. It is much worse than my OEM unit. I am still messing with it but so far I have had zero AM stations.

Crutchfield response on August 9, 2016 After conferring with our Tech Support Advisors, our Customer Review Specialist, Clark, found that the likely culprit for the poor radio reception is the blue power wire connection on James' new Alpine car stereo. His Suzuki includes a power antenna, and this blue wire needs to be connected to activate this antenna's amplifier for better reception.

I upgraded from stock. I installed 2 Rockford Punch amps, 4 Infinity 6 x 8s, JL audio 10" sub, and a Kenwood deck. The combo sounded...just OK. I thought the weak link was the Infinity 6 x 8s (reference not KAPPA). The Kenwood single din HU was irritating me with poor display so I decided to replace with the Alpine double DIN. WOW! What a difference a receiver can make. I'm talking night and day. BTW, Crutchfield made the swap very easy. (thank you)

Although a little pricey, the quality and features are a step up above everything else. I changed over from a Kenwood excelon double din and although the initial sound of the Kenwood sounded better (granted I have not tuned my system yet) the quality and features and much more. From the larger gauge wire on the microphone that's stereo vs mono, to the always easy to read display, I have never been dissapointed by Alpine. There are a multitude of audio control features, which is the primary reason I purchased, given that I will upgrading my whole system later. Alpine knows how to make the best quality head units. I replaced our one year old JVC unit with this model because the Alpine is easier to set up and use. It outperforms in every way. You can keep it as simple as you like or modify sound settings to your content. Quality build too.

I replaced an Bose system with this Alpine unit and was surprised how significant the sound quality had improved. The sound out of the Bose radio had been what i thought to be pretty great, but having heard the Alpine unit it paled by comparison. The Alpine has more features than I'll ever use of even try to figure out. Since I installed it in a two seater convertible, I have no reason to try and rebalance the sound settings because the area is so small any corrections would be minor and possible not even noticed.

Pros: Great sound clarity Easy switching between source inputs Easy to / well lit face panel for both dark and bright environments Pandora can be used through BT input connection (if using IPhone)

Cons: Pandora requires cable connection if using an IPhone Clock only shows when the unit or car is turned off, to see the time while driving you have to turn the radio off. Complexity of instructions (entire CD) means you either need a great memory, or willingness to just figure out and pick the functions that you use the most.

The only reason this lovely deck didn't get 5 stars from me is because, as many other reviewers have stated, the scrolling is incredibly slow. Besides that, it is very very efficiently laid out. Subwoofer level control is ONE CLICK away - it's the first option that pops up when you hit the button on the lower right with the little eighth note on it. The EQ, which is impeccable, is two quick clicks away - the square button on the bottom right, then the enter button. So right there, most of the sound manipulation you need is extremely quick and easy to get to. Speaking of the Subwoofer control and EQ... the subwoofer tone for me was a quite noticeable upgrade from my previous deck, that recent (2015-'16) Double DIN Sony with the "mega bass" option to the right of the volume/enter knob. And you know they built it with subs in mind, with how the sub level control is one click away. And this EQ is brilliant. I think of it as a 9 band x 3 band; 9 bandwidths, with 3 manipulable control for each - Center Frequency, Width (Q), and of course Level (+7, -7). the center frequency option was HUGE for truly getting the sound I wanted out of my gear. The only reason the coolness factor isn't 5/5 is because i can imagine a cooler deck. But this one is still great - amazing custom color choices. Not overly bright at all, esp. w/dimmer on. And if you choose one color for the top (display) and one for the bottom (controls) the two infuse in the two square buttons, an aesthetic cherry on t

Pros: Accessibility of most frequently desired sound manipulating tools is a pinch - QUICK. (EQ, sub control) Very quick navigation for everything besides selecting artists, or what have you, on a large scroll list. Great Sub sound control (Slope, HPF, Level (0, +15) Very intuitive design throughout. (the only not-too-intuitive thing is that you hold the eighth note button to get to the base menu (General, Display, Music, etc.) Colors and illumination are everything i could have hoped for

Cons: Searching for things within a large scroll list, most commonly artists on an iPod. Nothing to do with the actual stereo options and audio manipulation is a very long list at all. It is a little glary during a sunny afternoon, like most decks, but if you just change the display color to a brighter color like white or a bright violet, reading track info in the glare is easy.

After the OEM unit began hiccuping randomly, I took the plunge and upgraded with an Alpine CDE W265BT. I decided to move past the basic units and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the unit and the sound even with the original 6 OEM speakers and subwoofer. The Alpine is so good that I now have to consider speaker upgrades ! Sound quality is near top notch and features are spot on and easy to use. Installation was not overly difficult as the directions were spot on and the wiring harnesses worked perfectly with just a little tech support. Definitely recommend it.

Pros: Clear easy to use Bluetooth, numerous Equalizer & illumination adjustments, ergonomic design, looks great.

Cons: Owner's manual could be clearer and more explanatory - that's about the only con.

I really like this head unit. The color change display is great. It can be set to match your existing interior, or adjusted to lighting conditions. It has pretty much any input/source you could possibly need. The only thing I kind of wish it had is HD radio. Out of all of my choices for this car, this unit had the best combination minus that feature. One really nice feature: separate source volume settings. Notice how when you go from radio to CD to BT they seem to play at different levels and you have to adjust the volume (sometimes a lot) between sources? This unit allows you to adjust the sources up or down independently in the settings so they can all be at the same output level when switching back and forth. 9 band PEQ is nice along with a built in crossover for front, rear and subwoofer. Plus there is a shortcut on the face to adjust the subwoofer output. That's usually the one thing I want to adjust when listening to different albums/songs and it's one key press away on this unit. Great feature. I have this unit mated up to an MTX Thunder 75.4 driving 4 JL door speakers and a Kicker CX300.1 amp on a JL 10W1V3 sub and this system will drive me out of the car at higher volume levels. No distortion and very clear. This deck has so many features that you really do have to read the manual to know how to use a lot of it. They can only print so much on the face of the unit. Would highly recommend

    Pros: Feature packed unit.

    Cons: No HD radio.

I purchased this unit last week, and installed it in an afternoon last weekend. I ordered the recommended installation tools, and got the unit put in with the help of the Master Sheet and YouTube. I have basic knowledge of installation & electronics, so this took a little longer than if I'd done it before, but a 'novice can definitely do this. There isn't much to the unit itself, in terms of the interface. I really like having buttons to use (versus a touchscreen) because there is no lag and it's easier to operate while driving. The sound quality is a nice upgrade from the factory unit (still using the factory speakers), and I especially like the bass engine to adjust the low end on different songs. Lots of options to connect via bluetooth, usb, or 3.5 mm. Customizeable color schemes for buttons/display are nice, though it's a bit bright at night (even with the dim function activated). I am thrilled with the quality of this product for the price, and I highly recommend it if you're not interested in video playback or touchscreens.

Pros: Easy installation (with kit); versatility of inputs

This unit is exactly what I wanted. Nothing fussy, didn't need nav (I use my phone), it has an auxiliary port as well as a powered USB port to connect our phones and pods. Pandora interface to my iPhone is awesome but it doesn't work for our non Apple devices. Bluetooth sync is really easy but I don't use this much. Basic setup of the unit is really simple and I figured out how to change presets and colors (disco!) on the fly. There are a lot of color and equalizer customization options but there are so many presets, I don't anticipate ever needing this but it's there! The Alpine app is pretty useless except for equalizer settings if that is your thing. We have a few Alpine products so it is a brand I trust. The double-din fit the slot perfectly used with the adapter kit.

Pros: Simple, looks great, easy to install, has all the ports I need to connect my phone and MP3 players.

Has lots of features with expected alpine quality. Specifically wanted a non touch screen unit. Touch screens have a timing delay and have to be kept clean. So this time went non touch screen with hard buttons. Only down side is navigating the menus to do all the setup and tuning. That can get a little cumbersome. So, if you dont need a display screen for something like a backup camera. This unit is a great alternative, at a lower cost. But still feature packed.

Pros: Lots of features, hard buttons

Cons: Menu navigation without a touch screen can be difficult. Note. Download and install the alpine tuneit app, then connect your iphone and tune with the phone. Much easier.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been looking for a double din unit to replace the stock HU in my 04 Audi S4 (no highs, no lows, it must be ****!) and didn't want a touch screen. Visually I wanted a bit more old school and the ability to match the lighting scheme in place (Audi red). This unit satisfied both in that regard (despite what a previous reviewer stated, you can adjust the colors infinitely for either the display, the buttons or both). I wanted BT streaming from my iPhone, BT phone capability with decent sound and since I have a son and wife who I sometimes hand the keys over to, the ability to hook up multiple devices (you can pair 5 devices with this HU). All expectations were exceeded and the sound is outstanding as well. After playing a bit with the 9band eq and subwoofer settings I ended up using one of the Bass Engine SQ settings, but for those in the know you can adjust X-over settings, EQ frequency parameters, Sub phase, cut off and slope frequencies... way beyond my knowledge base. I do enjoy the Time Correction Adjustment whereby you adjust the delay of the speakers so the sound from each hits you at the same time. The settings start to become intuitive after a bit of use, but I did print out the 61 page manual CD and used it for a reference for the first week or so (and still keep it close by). Its nice to have the USB port to charge my phone if necessary (required for Pandora and the Tuneit app on iPhone) and the on display battery and signal indicators.

Pros: Sound quality, solid construction, overwhelming number of features and adjustability, Great BT integration including hands free calling and the remote mic with various sound settings, the ability to set separate source volumes so you don't get blown out of the seat switching sources, Value for $$.

Cons: Some may want more variability in dimming the unit (theres an auto setting and dim, but not a lot of variation), the Tuneit App does NOT work as advertised. You can set different parameters with it but it has been impossible to set up an account so you can save and share (Support blames the server in Japan, but this is a common complaint). If you're looking to plug and play with simple treble, mid, and bass settings look somewhere else, you'll spend some time setting this up.

Good quality. Above average sound. No amp yet, will want one in the future. OK bass on my 4 speakers, not a much bass as my Pioneer decks had. A little high in price for what you get, recommend you wait until it is below 250.00. With Crutchfield though, i did get the wiring harness and guide for install, a plus. The menu is fairly intuitive, do not try and adjust anything on the fly. It boasts all of the colors, but only a few look OK and all of that is a gimmick. I am able to read it during the day. A good thing. Some have complained of the song titles and group names being cut off partially in the display, they are correct. Kind of a pain and a poor design. I have not tried Blue Tooth and phone, I mainly wanted the sound of radio and CD's. I may update this later, but these are my initial impressions. Overall satisfied and I would say a 4, perhaps a 4.5 or so rating. Not a 5. Don't get caught in all the hype out there. Read up and learn to read between the lines. Overall satisfied and I made the right decision, even over the Pioneer decks.

This was my first car audio installation after nearly a decade (I used to do it as a pro), and it was good to know the process has gotten even easier over time. The head unit slid right into place with almost no difficulty and integrated easily into my existing speaker/amp system. The sound quality is great, the unit is easy to use once you get used to the sheer number of controls available, and the display is easy to read while driving. The sound quality of the integrated phone capability (via an external mic now attached to my sun visor) is outstanding. If this lives up to the Alpine quality heritage, it'll be a great system and will last a long time.

Pros: Wide variety of inputs. Easy to program. Intelligently connects to BlueTooth devices. No problem playing my own CDs.

Cons: Would be nice if the whole display (not just the center) could be color shifted to match the rest of the car. Option for using a new or existing CD changer would be great. Some control combinations are obscure and non-intuitive. Installation manual is bare bones and not very helpful.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm a novice when it comes to electronics, so take this review with a grain of salt. The installation in my 2007 Toyota Tundra went well. Upon firing it up for the first time after the install, I was immediately impressed with the upgrade. The sound was better and the "new" (blue tooth, pandora, usb port, etc.) technologies helped this pickup move into 2015. I'm pleased with the purchase, however there is still more to learn about the unit.

Pros: The sound quality is a big upgrade even with the factory speakers. The blue tooth pairs quickly to my iPhone 5s.

Cons: The owner's manual provided by Alpine is lousy, and hasn't helped much as I learn all the intricacies of this new head unit. Also, the display needs work. I would have preferred something in a smaller font (so as to be able to read the entire title to a song), and and a display that can be dimmed even more than what the unit allows.

This is my fourth alpine purchase over the years. I've had one fail just out of warranty and have two others already in family cars. This is the first double din unit I have used. The control feel of this double din unit is better than the single dins. Volume knob is solid and all buttons are tight and feel of quality. Display is easy to see. Sound quality is excellent, parametric Eq is excellent, and Bluetooth hands free quality is better than the pioneer and kenwood units I have fiddled with or used. My only gripe is the display brightness. It will never get poor marks for being hard to see during the day. It's like staring into a flashlight at high noon. However, for integration in well-designed oem dashboards, it's awful at night. Forget the color options, you have to try to go "custom" and dial it back as far as you can by hand to soften the glare. The two big buttons don't help, and only black paint around the edges help. Granted, kenwood is the only brand I've seen to do an excellent job wi this, but for the money spent one would think manufacturers would clue in.

Pros: Excellent sound quality and Bluetooth quality. Great user interface, EQ, X-over filters.

Cons: Poor nighttime illumination. Ridiculously bright. To get it close to dim enough, forget about using any of the fancy colors.

Like the product a lot - great sound, a lot of cool features and capabilities. Easy to use once you know what to do - but much of it is not at all intuitive. Which would be ok with a decent user manual. But I've never seen a more non-intuitive and confusing user manual. Really frustrating.

Pros: Love the connection options: bluetooth, USB, Aux, hands-free phone. Also love the capability on the app to tweak the sound like a mixer (although the app UX is terrible).

Cons: Non-intuitive interface except the volume knob, and worse, an absolutely awful user manual. Almost feels like someone did this on purpose as a practical joke. That means many of the great features are not available to me until I can find another owner who has cracked the code. Display is ugly, but most are these days - trying too hard to look techy and whiz-bang. Makes me wish Apple made car audio.

So far so good! Great sounding, nice clean look. Nice upgrade from the stock Premium JLB in my 2001 Toyota Avalon. The CD player and one of the display lights failed on the stock JBL in the car. This Alpine fit well, pretty straight forth. Haven't dug way deep into the EQ yet but will when I get more time. Using one of the pre programed EQ settings for now; most should find something suitable if you do so. Should have replaced it a long time ago to have the connectivity too. So easy!

Pros: Sounds great, clean look, great connectivity and of course keeps phone/iPod charged when using USB. Nice to pair the iPhone once and not handle the phone. Also you can program your most dialed phone numbers and use the buttons used for pre set stations and set to also use them for speed dial.

Cons: As others have mentioned, it would be nice to be able to control the "size" of the display font. If I had my choice, I'd get rid of the large display of the "station tower icon" or "Facebook icon" whichever source mode your in has a fairly large digital icon at the far left side of the display and use that as extra space to fit more display data for the artist/song. Other than that, it's not a deal breaker for me. Still a great double din head!

This radio has so many options, you can tune it using your cellphone with the alpine app over Bluetooth. It has a lot of customized options, like dimmer, illumination, you can even customize the display and key colors. Best radio so far, way better than pioneer!

    Pros: you can customize everything

Cons: display is a little bit small and sometimes you cant read the whole tittle for a song....

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Some background; when I bought my first aftermarket stereo I looked at double-din packages, but was very underwhelmed. It seemed like all of them were lazily-designed, as if they took the single-din version and added an extra half inch between all the buttons. I opted for a single-din. Then when I got a new car a year ago (August 2014) and looked at double-dins again there seemed to be the same problem. And if that wasn't the problem it was overly bright buttons (Pioneer), low-quality build, etc. I also didn't want a touch screen, I need the physicality of buttons when I'm trying to focus on driving. I mostly use the stereo to play music via bluetooth. I timed the stereo- 4 seconds to turn on, 25 total seconds before bluetooth audio starts playing. That's about as long as it takes to get into the car, put on a seatbelt and shift into gear so I don't start wondering when the music will kick in. There are about 30 color presents or you can create your own using 60 different levels of R, G and B, for a total of 216,000 colors. I like the dark red preset because it's easy on my eyes and it looks cool. The 9-band audio equalizer is great, but a little bit buried in the menu. The menu is very logically designed though. The screen is great. Way better than cheap 11-segment displays. Even with stock speakers this stereo makes everything sound much better due to higher RMS wattage output. There are loads of other customization options. The phone mic has excellent audio quality.

Pros: When I looked at double-dins 4 months ago, I was thrilled to see this unit and bought it. It makes the two most often-used buttons bigger (source and bass-boost), isn't blindingly bright at night, makes wise use of the extra space, and has excellent build-quality. The buttons have a satisfying and unmistakable click. The different button sizes and shapes help you to minimize attention devoted to the stereo so you can keep focused on driving. BT connection is rock solid. Pandora integration is A+

Cons: The volume knob, Source and Bass buttons are solid and firm, the top buttons are decent, but the bottom row (phone-back-play/pause-sound setup) buttons are wobbly. I'm sure this is because there's nothing below the buttons to keep them straight. I wish I could deactivate any source from being in the loop the source button cycles through. I never use Pandora or USB audio and I can't deactivate those. You can only deactivate BT and aux. I wish the thumbs-up/down worked with Android Play Music.

I like this heady unit because of its many sound tweaking options and big volume knob, I don't need a slow responding touch screen in my life. 9 band EQ is great and super tweakable, 3 4 volt pre amp outs are a must, and it's easy to use and fast to navigate through its fuctions. I still feel like it's over priced, but I'm happy with it and would buy it again for all its many ways to control how your music sounds.

    2011 Toyota Tacoma
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've listened to this high end head unit for 2 months now, and I'm still impressed with its sound quality. It was time to ditch the Tacoma's terribly underpowered, bassless sound system and start the upgrade. I've been using strictly the built-in IC amp, which should be suffice for most users. I replaced the stock speakers with my original, 14 year old Infinity Kappa 60.2 cs (green cone, purchased from Crutchfield with my hard earned internship income) components in the front, and the new current-gen Infinity Kappa 6.5" coaxials in the rear. Although the components are definitely underpowered, they sound incredibly clear with strong mid-bass up to a certain volume level from just the IC amp. With the right parametric tune, the bass actually can pound without distortion in certain conditions. I'm looking forward to getting either the Alpine PDX or PDR line amps, and sourcing them with this unit's 4V pre-amp to really open up the sound levels and sustain the mid-bass. My only con: Pandora control works pretty well, but Alpine's own description is somewhat deceiving for Pandora with iPhone. The Pandora source requires the iPhone to be plugged in via USB. Buried in the manual, its stated that the head unit can link to an iPhone via bluetooth for Pandora control, but this simply is not true and will not work. My iPhone will share its Pandora sourcing via Bluetooth, only if the head unit is set to Bluetooth..which requires handling the iPhone for Pandora control.

Pros: Built in, fully adjustable crossover control to front, rear, subwoofer. Superior sound quality. 4V pre-amps. Great looking head unit. Clean and semi-sufficient IC amp to hold you over. Tune-it app has a full suite of tuning features for eq, timings, and other high end settings. Build quality (feel of the buttons, mechanical sound of CD player, etc) is equal to what I remember of Alpine units from the late 90's which is a good thing. Good Pandora control via cable connection w/ iPhone.

Cons: iPhone must be plugged in for Pandora control (Android apparently does not require to be plugged in). Several layers of menus may be overwhelming to some people. Tune-it app has some bugs (ie. portions of your manual eq tune may adjust on their own while in the app). I bought this unit for Bluetooth, but really can't comment on how well Bluetooth works or its SQ, since my iphone is always plugged in!! The sound quality alone and feature set prevented me from exchanging the unit.

I really like this in dash radio, CD, Bluetooth product by Alpine. If purchasing for a 2004 Toyota Sequoia and wanting to use the steering wheel controls, be prepared to callback to Crutchfield. They do have a knowledgeable team of technical people that can help. For some reason the connections to my JBL 6-CD changer-radio were not quite the same as the connection drawings indicated. Everything was fine till I got to the steering wheel interface. The fourth call to Crutchfield yielded different wires (3) to connect to the SWI. After this AND programming the SWI it works like it should. My wife is happy with the results for her car. It sounds really good with the JBL speakers that I had to re-foam.

    Pros: Sound Looks Functionslity

Cons: Wiring diagrams for connecting SWI.

I purchased this Alpine with sound quality in mind and I was highly pleased with what I got. There are a ton of features on it, not to mention a lot of tone shaping capabilities that I absolutely love. I installed it in my 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 with a little modification involved, as advised by Crutchfield. I also replaced the factory speakers in the truck and added a 10" subwoofer to the system and it all sounds killer. I was contemplating adding the Alpine power brick for a little more power, but it's not necessary. This headunit gets plenty loud for what I need it for. If you're on the fence about this headunit, get it. It's fantastic for the money you spend in return for the quality and features provided. I will be purchasing Alpine from now on for any future headunit upgrades to any of the vehicles I own.

Pros: Tons of features and good depth for achieving quality sound.

I still have the factory speakers but this really brings out the best in them. Will likely update those next. Integrates with iPhone and works with all apps in USB app mode or Bluetooth. After the factory radio died in my Jetta Sportwagen after only 72,000 miles I chose to buy an Alpine CDE 265 from Crutchfield rather than spend $950!! on an OEM replacement. My product advisor was most helpful in pointing me to the best radio for me. I had previously bought from Crutchfield and was most satisfied so I had no hesitation. I was disappointed there were no Master Installation Sheets for my car so I was flying a little blind. But after a small false start removing the dash bezel the installation went smoothly. The radio looks great and sounds fantastic. I am most satisfied with the quality.

    Pros: Sound, fit.

Cons: No Master Installation Sheets for my car! Can't use the car's built in mic for the phone Bluetooth connection; you have to install a mic and run the wire to a convenient location.

I was looking to replace the head unit in a 2001 Sequoia with a radio with Sirius and Bluetooth. After moderate luck but some frustration with a Pioneer AppRadio in another vehicle, I thought I'd give Alpine a try. I'm glad I did. The factory JBL system always sounded mediocre at best. The foam in the speakers rotted out (very common with Toyota JBL systems) so I refoamed them and added this Alpine unit. The difference in sound quality, using the existing JBL amp and speakers, is nothing short of phenomenal, especially for the short money for this unit. Definitely a great unit if you don't want to drop $500+ for a color touch screen unit.

Pros: -great sound -value for the money -very easy install with the included Metra harness

Cons: -the two square buttons for Source and Bass are overly bright at night and don't dim enough -more difficult to use than a system with LCD touchscreen

I paired this with 2 pairs of Alpine SPS-517 for the 4 doors of my 2005 Ford Expedition ( w/ factory sub & amp ) I left the factory sub and amp in and used the adapters that Crutchfield sent and WOW. The new Alpine SPS-517 speakers sound amazing. The highs, mids and even bass sound great on these. Add the factory sub in the mix and wow, what sound and so clear and crisp. The folks at Crutchfield were awesome. ( can't remember all the names of the people I talked to ) I had to call 3 times for help with wiring and such and they were always so much help. They took the time to help me untill I was 100% sure I had it down and done right. I will but this and any other Alpine product again and for sure get it all from Crutchfield.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I thought connecting a USB drive would be better than just having CD/radio as a source, I was wrong. Alpine decided to waste space on the 2 line display with huge icons. There is plenty of space to increase the display and still fit everything. For some reason 100 pt. font was necessary and scrolling is limited to 15 characters. Most 3 syllable words are cut off. Instead of a nested folder layout Alpine has you search by folder or file, all one level, one GIANT list with the 2 line display. If you want to group things in folders to filter results you will be disappointed. So I have an IPOD shuffle for a HU I thought, right? Wrong, more like random repeat. Every 5 songs on random will repeat one of the last 4. The 9 band EQ is a 3 band with useless extra. It says +/- 7 db but sounds more like 3 db. Cant save a custom eq to the HU so Alpine came up with the "great" Tuneit app. Turn on GPS and kill your battery so it can shut down if it thinks you are driving except it blocks you even when parked. Sirius XM sounds like 8 bit video games through a clock radio. KW & Pioneer units w/ Sirius I've had were as good as USB. The HU pops when switching tracks. It does this with or without an ext amp. I've grounded though the OEM harness, a new wire to chassis and straight to battery. Alpines tech said going straight to the battery was the worst thing to do. How do they get so many brilliant people to work at Alpine? This is the first and last Alpine anything I will buy

Pros: Crutchfield is great to deal with

Nice radio. Certainly not like the old high quality alpines from the past from Japan. It feels a bit cheap like everything these days. So far I'm pleased with this unit. I bought this for my wife's 03 crown Victoria. It absolutely fits with a little grinding of the plastic bezel, although crutchfield says otherwise. So if your rolling around in a ford Panther platform car, go for it! I don't use most features this unit has. I still use a flip phone. The tuner is nice and clear and plays discs without skipping. My requirements are presets and a big bright display. I do like the looks better on the Kenwood dual din head units but they cheapened them up this year with the lousy display and downgrade to a 16 bit da converter. This alpine makes me want to dust off my old eclipse amps because of the 4 volt outputs, 3 way crossover, time alignment and 9 band eq. It sounds pretty nice for something from this era. We shall see if it can hold up over the next few years.

Pros: Big display I can actually see with presets. Nice tuner reception. Possibly a good source unit for a multi amplifier system with the tuning features. Mine actually came with a real paper owners manual!!!

Cons: It is a bit gaudy with those big square buttons. I find it a bit tedious to adjust the sound.

If you are an audiophile and understand the 20Hz-20khz spectrum of hearing AND you love to dial in custom EQ then this is the unit for you. I installed this stereo with a pair of JBL front components and rears with a JBL 4 channel amp in my 350z. After dialing in several detailed EQ profiles, I am very pleased with the sound. It is enough to make your friends jelly. The Media Xpander feature seemed to make the sound louder and more vivid at first, but after a few minutes of listening, I could hear that there was some kind of compression it was adding that really laced the sound in a bad way. Sounds much better with the Media Xpander off having a proper EQ. The built in mic works well and call integration does it's job. Overall I would recommend this head unit to anyone with an ear for music who is looking to put together an impressive SQ system. If you don't know the first thing about graphic EQ, then buy something else with flashy lights.

Pros: Superb 9 band EQ with frequency adjust and Q that gives you the ability to dial in a detailed custom sound for your speakers and cabin

Cons: Pandora/Android compatibility issues. I have to start Pandora first, then navigate to it on the head unit. Not as cool looking as some other units.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sounding unit with a couple of nice Kicker speakers in my sons 2012 Silverado. Only issue I had was unit was too deep for original install location. I had to dremel the plastic out some in back to allow to fit. And as always these modules that make connect to factory plugs are nice but have WAY too many wires for WAY too many options. All in all I love the sound from this Alpine. Thought I might need to install small amp but glad I waited. It sounds great without.

    Pros: Great sound. Many functions

    Cons: Too deep

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Initial unit was defective and had to be replaced but Crutchfield is GREAT to work with. The second unit has not had any problems. I installed myself in a Totoya Tundra. Unit has excellent sound quality. Bluetooth audio (for music streaming) is great quality, but the quality for phone calls is not ideal. Just has some tunnel/echo sounds like many Bluetooth mics.

Pros: Nice looking unit. Great sound quality and options on the head unit. Great price. Huge upgrade

Cons: Display buttons don't dim enough (too bright)

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Alpine CDE-W265BT features built-in Bluetooth (ver. 2.1+EDR) technology. The head unit's built-in Bluetooth allows you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.5 (Hands Free Profile), HSP (Head Set Profile), OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.4 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Alpine CDE-W265BT.

Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) + Auto Pairing (for iPhone): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Alpine CDE-W265BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When a registered Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. You can register up to three Bluetooth-enabled devices with the Alpine head unit (only one device can be used at a time). You can also pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) by simply connecting it to the Alpine head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.

Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone (including iPhone & Android). The controls of the CDE-W265BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone, so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can initiate a transfer of audio between your mobile phone and your car's speakers.

    • Receiving Calls: The Alpine CDE-W265BT provides a couple ways to answer your phone calls without picking up your mobile phone. Incoming calls are announced by a caller ring tone through your vehicle's speakers (music will be muted) and a Caller ID message across your Alpine head unit's display.
      • Manual Answer: Manually answer an incoming call by pressing the "Phone" button on your Alpine head unit.
      • Call Waiting: If a second call is received during a current call, you can have the first caller wait momentarily while you take the second call. When you are finished with one call, you can switch to the other.
    • Placing Calls: The Alpine CDE-W265BT provides a variety of functions for placing a phone call without using your mobile phone. The Alpine CDE-W265BT features full phone book access, call history, voice tag dialing, and redial with compatible phones.
      • Voice Dialing: If you have a voice-dial capable phone, you can dial a phone contact by simply speaking the name of your contact.
      • Phonebook (with ABC search): Up to 1,000 contacts (5 telephone numbers for each name) can be downloaded from your compatible mobile phone. You can select the first 3 call letters (ABC) to search for a desired name in your phonebook.
      • Preset Dialing: You can assign phone numbers that you dial frequently to presets (1-6) for quick recall. You can assign up to six frequently called phone numbers. A total of 18 phone numbers can be stored in the preset memory (6 numbers for each mobile phone paired).
      • Call History: The previously dialed, received, or missed numbers (20 each) can be retrieved and dialed from memory.
Note: The external microphone is tuned and engineered to reduce noise interference and feedback. This allows optimal placement in your car, for the best possible sound quality. The external microphone measures 0.5625" (diameter) x 1.625" (deep); and features an attached 13' cable terminated by a right-angle male 3.5mm connector.

Audio Streaming (w/ Advanced Music Navigation): The Alpine CDE-W265BT can stream music from your Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP mobile device. Not only can it control & stream your music through Bluetooth, it can process your music using its built-in DSP Sound Expansion to ensure you get the best sound. In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the CDE-W265BT provides a Search List of your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, etc.. (AVRCP 1.4 phones only). The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name & Song/Album title. The CDE-W265BT even supports audio streaming of music apps on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone with limited control and song/artist information. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to control advanced music navigation.

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Bluetooth Sound Quality Adjustments: You can customize the sound of your Bluetooth hands-free experience to fit your own preferences. You can adjust the CDE-W265BT's mic gain, phone output, & ring tone volume. If that's not enough, there are 5 sound quality settings to choose from to get the balance just right for you. You can also select which speakers output Bluetooth audio. This flexibility will make your phone calls a pleasurable experience.

    • Volume Adjustments: You can emphasize or weaken the volume level of phone call, the ring tone, and the microphone input to fit your own preference. The Phone Talk Level, Ring Tone, & Mic Gain are all adjustable between -5 to + 5 dB.
    • Sound Types: This unit provides 5 methods to improve the sound quality of your calls. You can choose the type according to your own preference - Type 1 (standard mode), Type 2 (enhances noise reduction), Type 3 (enhances echo-cancellation), Type 4 (enhances both noise reduction & echo cancellation), & Type 5 (weakens both noise reduction & echo-cancellation).
    • Speaker Output: You can select which car speaker outputs the audio from your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone/device. Choose All (audio will be output from all of the speakers in the car), F-L (sound is only output from the front left speaker), F-R (sound is only output from the front right speaker), or F-LR (sound is output from the front left and front right speakers).

    • Bass Engine SQ: Bass Engine SQ tuning is a new feature that changes bass sound characteristics by automatically adjusting different combinations of EQ, Sub Level, and Crossover settings through the choice of five bass profiles (Standard, Punch, Rich, Mid Bass, and Low Bass); only customizable through TuneIt app for Apple iOS and Android devices. You can adjust the effect level (0-6) of the selected profile from the head unit.

Audio Enhancements: The CDE-W265BT offers the following audio adjustments to enhance your in-car listening experience.

    • Time Correction: This unit is able to delay the audio signal to the speakers closest to the listener with its built-in Time Correction feature. This effectively creates a perception of increased distance for those speakers. Time Correction allows the listener to be placed at an equal distance between the left and right speakers for optimum staging. You can adjust the distance (0-336.6cm) of each speaker and subwoofer to the listener.
    • Media Xpander: Alpine's exclusive Media Xpander is engineered to bring out the musical details lost in compressed media, and it is adjustable per source to get the most out of your digital audio media. The Media Expander makes vocals or instruments sound distinct regardless of the music source. You can customize the Media Xpander to suit your personal taste by adjusting the level (0-8) for Bass, Mids, and Highs. The FM radio, Disc, USB, iPod, Pandora, Bluetooth, and Aux will be able to reproduce the music more clearly even in vehicles with a lot of road noise.
    • Source Volume Level: The output level of each source (Tuner, Disc, USB, iPod, Bluetooth, Pandora, Aux) is individually adjustable from -14 to + 14 dB.

TuneIt App: TuneIt is an easy-to-use sound-tuning app that also offers Facebook notifications. Download this free app (from iTunes or GooglePlay) onto your Apple iPhone (iOS 6.0+ ) or Android smartphone (2.2+) and create a user profile about your vehicle and sound system. Your iPhone must be connected to the CDE-W265BT via the appropriate Alpine iPod connector cable or the Dock-/Lightning-cable that came with your iPhone. Your Android smartphone must support A2DP/AVRCP/SPP Bluetooth profiles and be paired with the Alpine receiver. Your iPhone or Android smartphone will also need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi.

    • Sound Tuning: The TuneIt app turns your iPhone or Android smartphone into a sound tuning interface for the CDE-W265BT. Follow the simple TuneIt graphical instructions on your phone to adjust sound settings for your specific vehicle or choose from pre-made settings in the database. Settings that can be adjusted include Parametric EQ, Bass Engine SQ, Crossover, and Media Xpander. As you change settings on your smartphone, you will hear the results, so you can customize the sound to exactly how you want it. You can make and save up to 100 different sound settings in your account, which is helpful if you want various settings to use for specific types of music. After tuning your system, upload your settings to the Alpine Cloud Server to share them with other Alpine fans. You can also check out other user's settings and rate them. The more active you are, the higher your profile status progresses within the app.
    • Facebook Notifications: The TuneIt app also keeps you in touch with your Facebook friends. When you receive a notification, you will get a visual alert on the smartphone and the head unit, plus a sound alert through your car speakers. The visual notification includes the Facebook icon and the sender's name, with the profile picture shown on the phone. You are then able to listen to the notification via TTS (Text-to-Speech) through the head unit and your vehicle's speaker. You can even "Like" the notification from the head unit's front-panel controls. In order to receive Facebook notifications on the head unit, the TuneIt app must be the active app on your smartphone.

Note: Access to TuneIt will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or smartphone to connect to the Internet. You will also need to turn on the GPS function of your phone.

Beep Guide: This function will give audible feedback with varying tones depending upon the button pressed. The volume of this feature can be set from 0-7.

    Display Features

2-Line LCD Display: This unit is equipped with a 2-Line backlit LCD, so you can easily view AM/FM stations and ID-3/WMA tag information. The CD receiver will display the folder name, the file name, and the tag information, while playing a USB device loaded with MP3/WMA music files. This unit can scroll the text information of MP3/WMA files, folder names, and tags. There are two Text Scroll settings - Auto (the information of folder and file names, and the tags are scrolled automatically) or Manual (the display is scrolled when a when a track is changed).

Variable Color Illumination: The Alpine CDE-W265BT features variable color display and button illumination. You can choose from one of 30 preset colors or customize your own color (RGB; 0-60). The custom setting allows you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue (from 0-60) to better match your vehicle's interior lights. The same color setting is applied to both the display and buttons.

Auto Dimmer: This unit is equipped with an illumination lead (orange); when the unit's dimmer mode is set to Auto and the illumination lead is connected to your vehicle's headlight circuit, the display and button illumination will dim to a fixed, preset level whenever the headlights are turned on. If preferred, you may choose the Manual dimmer mode setting, so the display and button illumination is dim at all times.

Clock Display: The head unit displays a 12- or 24-hour clock. The clock can be set to remain on even after head unit is switched off, as long as the vehicle's key is in the accessory or start position.

Stay On Mode: You can set the delay in turning off the head unit's power after the vehicle's ignition is turned off. When you select a source mode, other than Off, the music will be paused after you turn the ignition key off. At the same time, the prompt "Press Preset 6 to Stay On" will scroll once. Press Preset 6 within 15 seconds to continue to listen to your music for the select period of time (off/5/15/30 min). If Preset 6 is not pressed, the unit will power off within 15 seconds. During this period, you can only receive a call by operating your paired smartphone.

Note: There is a possibility that the battery may be drained if already weak during Stay On Mode.

Demo Mode: This unit has a demonstration feature for its display which can be turned On or Off in the menu.
