Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Good option for the price, especially if you can't put speakers in your ceiling.
For most home theater enthusiasts, upgrading to a Dolby Atmos surround sound system means not only adding an Atmos receiver, it also means replacing or adding new speakers. But what if you love your current speakers, and don't want to mount speakers in your ceiling to hear those cool Atmos sound effects? Here's an easy, and affordable, answer — Onkyo's SKH-410 Dolby Atmos enabled add-on speaker modules.
How do these compact speaker modules work? It's pretty simple. They connect to your Dolby Atmos receiver's height channels and sit on top of your existing front speakers to deliver engulfing Atmos surround sound. Each module contains a full-range 3-1/4" driver. These drivers are angled upward and feature controlled dispersion, so they can reflect sound off of your ceiling and back down to your listening positions. Use a pair of '410s with your front speakers, plus add a second pair to your rear surround speakers for an even more enveloping experience. Anti-vibration rubber feet are included to protect your speakers' finish. And Onkyo includes brackets for wall mounting your modules, if you prefer.
Good option for the price, especially if you can't put speakers in your ceiling.

Good option for the price, especially if you can't put speakers in your ceiling.
Added these to my old bookshelf speakers, and they've added much more clarity to the TV audio.
These are the new "Atmos" speakers, with sound bouncing off the ceiling. I have yet to be able to judge them as it difficult to compare before and after effects.
I was completely disappointed with the performance of these speakers. Maybe it was equal parts speaker and equal parts reflective technology. I tried quite a few tweaks to make them sound better, but the effect they were supposed to provide was minimal. Speakers in a theater don't bounce sound waves to provide Atmos, so why do it at home? I just purchased 2 Infinity CS60R in-ceiling speakers to replace the Onkyo speakers and re-calibrated them as top middle for Atmos. No bouncing sound means a night and day difference. I did not realize how big the shortcoming was until I made this switch yesterday. If you love Atmos and don't think its just a fad, then go for overhead discreet speakers and you won't regret it.
Cons: minimal effect on sound, reflecting sound not good
Adds a whole new depth to surround sound
Pros: Easy installation Sounds great
The speakers are a good product at a good price!
Pros: The overhead sounds are excellent, with no complaints!
Do not waste your money on them. I have to have the channel level full blast to hear a little bit of the Atmos or DTS-X effect.
I can truly say I was skeptical about how well these would perform, however after a week with these I am sold on the difference they do make even with a very good existing system. I highly recommend this product
I got the scratch and dent set and at least the ones I got have no signs of any damage. As far as the speakers, it's kind of hard to accurately rate these speakers without another set to compare with. That being said, they do the job fine and work well with Atmos for the height and object based audio. I know some other reviews say these don't provide atmos and while these might not be top of the line, there's a marked improvement over the 5.1 setup.
Pros: Make movies with atmos sound great
These are very nice speakers. I have an Onkyo TX-NR646 which supports a 5.2.2 setup. They are sitting on top of my tower front speakers. The improvement in surround sound is subtle but noticeable. There is definitely more of a spacial effect with distinct sounds coming from/to a more defined direction. The effect is greater if the movie is Atmos encoded. I have the ideal room conditions for these speakers: flat ceiling, 9'4" high. These are a great alternative to climbing in the attic and running speaker wires! I have a feeling ceiling speakers would be better since the sound would originate there rather than be reflected from the ceiling downward. All in all, I am very happy with the purchase. They perform as I expected.
Pros: Simple installation, fair price, good speakers
Cons: None really, it would be unfair to judge them against ceiling speakers
They were ok in sound, nothing to get really excited abut.. Probably would Not buy again..
I have tried these in multiple locations, height, and angles. They simply do not work . Really, really disappointed.

I was in doubt in buying these but I thought i'd give them a try. NOTE these speakers do not have tweeters. I set them up and ran my calibration, and per Dolby, you need to increase the level of these speakers +5db's. Tried other adjustments, placements but just did not perform as well. I have approx 9 to 10ft flat ceiling, these speakers rely on bouncing off your ceilings. I experimented with a pair of polks and placed them as heights, they performed way better. I love Onkyo but these speakers under performed for me.
Cons: Did not perform as expected.
Easy to install and work pretty well. Don't expect these to duplicate actual in ceiling speakers for Atmos playback but they do a pretty decent job in particular if you don't have the option to go the full ceiling route.
Pros: Inexpensive Comes with usable speaker wire
Cons: Not a direct replacement for the real thing
These speakers are complete garbage. $25 dollars should be the price for these things. Dts:x was a letdown and atmos even more so. I had other friends over to see if they heard anything and no one heard any overhead effect at all. I configured my denon receiver to play atmos then calibrated everything and popped in the atmos bluray of the john wick movie. I had the atmos speakers placed on top of my towers. There is a scene in the movie where it is raining and its supposed to sound like its coming from above you. We heard nothing. Not only did we not hear any atmos effects but it actually made the over all sound quality muffled losing much of the punch and detail it has when just using true hd. Don't know what some of these other people are hearing. Maybe its all in their heads. I can see where it would sound as if rain was coming from above with discreet speakers in your ceiling but well... Thats because their are speakers in your ceiling. Really? No kidding. Don't waste your money on atmos unless you plan on putting 4 atmos speakers in your ceiling.
I physically attached the atmos speaker on top of my Klipsch tower speaker with the mounting hardware included to keep it steady. I found a blu ray dvd that had atmos. It was a nice addition. I am glad that I did not spend $500 on another brand of atmos speaker. The receiver will decode the atmos enabled Blu Ray. Now, I have an umbrella of sound while watching Blu Ray atmos enabled dvd's.
Pros: Nice, inexpensive introduction to the atmos format.
Cons: Thin speaker wires were included, which will be replace with 14 gauge wire.
It's still early in my ownership of the product but so far I'm please with it. Brought some 4-K movies with helicopters to listen at how it really sounds. I was very please with the sound and I'm waiting for more DVD's to be released in the 4-K format so I can enjoy them more, but overall I'm please I purchase them.
Pros: Size fit well on top of my speakers
Good quality Good price
These speakers work very well for Dolby Atmos. They are obviously not a high end speaker but you can't beat them for the price.
Pros: Size and price
Perfect simulation alternative for the real atoms sound
Pros: Good balanced frequency
Great little speaker for the money. No regrets.
The speakers do not feel like they have a heavy magnet.
I never experienced Atmos speakers before and didn't know what to expect, these speakers made it very clear what they do. What ever is taking place on screen overhead it's doing it in your living room. For such a small speaker the sound is amazing from the lows to the highs. I added them to an Onkyo TX-NR737 receiver and polk front and surround speakers and let the receiver recalibrate the setup, the results... AMAZING. So, if you're thinking about getting them.. don't.. just do it you'll be glad you did.
Pros: Small, looks good atop the polk speakers, easy to set up and inexpensive.
Purchased these speakers as I'm upgrading my system to 7.2 with Dolby Atmos to boot. Easy connection to my Onkyo 838 receiver. They sound great and compliment my Polk speakers.
Pros: Compact with simple receiver connection. Beats cutting holes in your ceiling or walls.
This will complete any system!
I bought these speakers to go with my new Onkyo TX-NR636 Atmos receiver. I can't believe how much more immersive that the soundfield is now with these little speakers, compared to my old 7.1 setup. I'm so glad I made the switch!
Pros: Easy to hookup and fairly inexpensive.
Cons: None so far...
Although I have not had the opportunity to install them as of yet, I have now doubt that they will be Exactly what I am looking for in my home theater experience. I purchased my Onkyo home theater receiver with the G-3 from Crutchfield for these speakers and I am certain they will deliver. I purchased many products from Crutchfield like my Sony Dream system, and have loved them all. Tremendous sound and theater experience always. Crutchfield is top shelf all the way when it comes to my home theater. I will certainly send an email of gratitude as soon as I have listened to my first movie with my new system
Pros: Anything from Crutchfield is Pro. Speakers look awesome.
Great little add on speaker for Atmos.
Pros: Size, performance
Cons: Only one color
Ordered these soon after getting an Onkyo TX-NR737 ATMOS-ready Receiver from Crutchfield. I really wanted to extend the dolby surround and THX sound, and have these speakers positioned on my Infinity Primus 250 towers, up-firing. The sound is fantastic! Even without direct ATMOS content, the overall sound is much fuller and really draws you in. Could use these as Height speakers, or as a Back surround. The first ATMOS Blu-Ray played was " John Wick", and there is a scene with Keanu standing in the rain, and you find yourself reaching for an umbrella near your couch! Real love these speakers (rated at 25w, max 100w), and for the $$, you really can't go wrong.
Pros: ATMOS design, lightweight, low price for superb bang-for-your-buck
Once I hooked up with a onkyo 636 whole different sound cant believe how great they work
Pros: Easy set up
For the price, these are a cheap/great option
Pros: The cost doesn't break your pocket.
Cons: Should have some sort of basic instructions explaining the best location/height for the best performance according to room size.
I needed a replacement receiver and elected to upgrade to Atmos. These add-on speakers matched my Onkyo receiver. What surprised me was how natural and impressive Atmos is. It has none of the artificial feel of multiagency-channel sound. I notice the great sound not the speakers. Perfect.
Pros: Great value
Cons: Included wires are too short
Cost effect , crisp, and clear accent sound to support ATMOS on my new Onkyo 636 Network receiver. I waited a few weeks after my purchase of the receiver. I wish I didn't wait, but the benefit is hearing the real difference the extra channels offer.
Pros: Small size, nice sound
Cons: nicer, longer cable with speakers would be a nice addition.
Crutchfield is a great electronics supplier with top quality products. The Onkyo speakers are excellent with great speakers for surround effects when used with one of Onkyo's Atmos receivers. They do a good job upfireing the special effects.
Pros: Good price quality speakers from a top vender
As an early adopter of the Dolby Amos home theater technology, combining these with my Only TX-NR838 Dolby Amos receiver was super easy and convenient. The fact that these modules can be moved around without disrupting the placement of my existing speakers was also a plus. This is especially helpful because my theater room ( which measures 13W×7.5H×18L) has slanted ceilings that start at 4.5 ft on the side walls and angle up leavin only 4 feet of flat ceiling. This required a lot of testing while moving just the modules around until I found the best angle to get them to hit the flat portion of the ceiling. My Onkyo 838's AccuEQ calibration set the frequency at 150 Which sounds perfect and doesn't allow for bass to punch through these. There is currently very little Atmos content available but I was able to test the system using the dolby atmos demo disc material. The sounds reflecting from the ceiling was very convincing and caused me to look up a few times to locate the clouds that seemed to be floating above me.
Pros: Small, affordable and easy to position.
Cons: None for the speakers, but it would help if the owner'so manual listed the actual angle of the speaker inside the module. This would help in determining the placement of the module.
I am very pleased with these speakers work great with my new Onkyo 838 receiver
Pros: Easy set-up sound is great! first time ordering from Crutchfield great service and fast!
Ordering was a snap, product was quickly sent out by Crutchfield and received in perfect condition. Set up with the Onkyo TR638 ATMOS receiver, using the height channel input. Sound quality is good. In the room they are being used the ceiling at 10 feet and the room is 14' X 15.5'. With at Dolby ATMOS Blu -Ray the sound was full, filling the room and sounds surround you and put you into the action of the movie in a very realistic way. I am running a 5.1.2 speaker configuration with the ATMOS speakers added as the .2 part of the the 5.1.2 configuration. For the money the ONKYO SKH410 ATMOS add on speakers are an excellent value. I run Deftech speakers for the 5.1 part of the sound system and the Onkyo Height speakers blended well, clarity was good and at high volume they performed satisfactory
Pros: Cost, ease of set up, ability to wall mount or set atop existing front or rear channel speakers
Cons: more precise instructions on placement for optimum sound performance is needed in the supplied manual
Dolby Atmos Enabled Speakers: The Onkyo SKH-410 speakers are a convenient and affordable way to unlock the full Dolby Atmos sound experience in your home theater. You get to keep your existing 5.1ch or 7.1ch speaker setup exactly as you like it, with no need to install in-ceiling speakers. The Onkyo SKH-410 speaker modules connect to your Dolby Atmos-compatible A/V receiver's height channels and are designed to sit on top of your floorstanding front speakers or on an entertainment unit.
Angled 3.25" Full-Range Driver: In order to reproduce these sound objects that originate from overhead (like a helicopter, raindrops, the flight of an arrow, etc.) the SKH-410 speaker modules each have an upwardly angled 3.25" full-range driver housed in the cabinet. Each speaker module bounces individually separate and distinctly coded sound effects off the ceiling and to your ears and created an overhead sonic plane, moving the sound around and above you in multidimensional space.
Heightened Sound: These speaker modules contain a Dolby Atmos-certified special network that allows the angled full-range driver to beam sound "objects" (such as birdcalls or an aircraft) off your ceiling and into your ears. The result is a multi-dimensional sound, with precisely localized effects moving over and all around you, an intensely realistic sonic experience that truly puts you in the middle of the scene.
Sealed Wood Cabinet: The speaker modules are constructed from sturdy wood and finished in black wood-grain laminate. The cabinet employs an acoustic suspension (sealed) design for accurate imaging.
Spring-Clip Speaker Terminals: The Onkyo SKH-410 speaker modules are fitted with spring-clip terminals to connect to your Dolby Atmos-enabled AV receiver's Front Height channels. Two 9.75" lengths of speaker cable are provided. The spring-clip terminals will accept bare-wire (up to 12AWG) and pin-connectors.
Mounting Options: The SKH-410 speaker modules are designed to be placed on top of your existing front speakers or AV furniture. Rubber anti-vibration feet are included to protect your speakers or furniture. The Dolby Atmos-enabled speaker modules can also be wall-mounted using the included wall-mount brackets with keyhole slots (mounting screws not included). Regardless of mounting application, the SKH-410 speakers should be placed at the front of the room, above your eye height, with the full-range driver directed at the ceiling.
