Overview

Our take on the Channel Master CM 5020 Masterpiece

With a moniker like "Masterpiece," Channel Master's CM 5020 antenna had better be pretty good — and it is. It's recommended for "deep-fringe" applications — its large size and numerous reception elements help it pull in signals from distant transmitters. It pulls in over-the-air TV signals in the UHF and VHF bands — probably more channels than you knew were available. To get the most channels possible, try adding Channel Master's 7777 preamplifier. Also, if you'd like to pull in signals from two or more different locations, you may want to consider a rotor to aim your antenna in the right direction.

Long Range Reception

Anonymous from Minneapolis, MN on 10/20/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Impressive reception from towers 80 miles away. Was told by many that in northern Minnesota with hills and trees in the path over the air would not work - well it does. Along with the channel master signal amplifier and careful aiming, we are getting all the broadcast stations with this antenna. Canceled dish the next day.

Pros: easy to install

Cons: big - not sure my old dish roof mount is strong enough.

Great picture

Great reception

Pros: Great reception

Cons: Mast sold separately

Powerful, no amp needed

William from Ogden, UT on 6/24/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Antenna works well and was easy to install for its size. I live 35 miles from the TV station towers. I went for the powerful antenna because I split the signal 6 ways to 6 TVs and FM receivers. I do not use powered splitters because they often quit after a couple of years and they cost $60 and they cannot be put in a 150+ degree attic and they use a few dollars worth of electricity per year. So I bought an antenna that will pull in very strong signals that can be divided many times over 200 feet of high quality quad shielded coax wires and still end up with a strong signal. The first 4-way splitter comes after 100 feet of coax wire. My antenna is mounted 5 feet above my roof line and about 5 feet north of the solar panels with the antenna aimed south right across the solar panels. Solar panels with micro inverters do not seem to affect the TV/FM signal. I probably get all 50+ TV stations that are available in my area, all with good signal strength and I get all of the FM stations that I want to get. I would expect that if I lived much further from the TV stations, I would have to have a signal amplifier to split the signal 6 ways. I think all stations here are UHF digital or FM radio, no VHF.

Pros: Just as powerful as many of the antennas that are much longer and wider. Very sturdy and should hold up well in a 90 mph wind storm.

Cons: Has black plastic parts, should be white for our hot desert sun. Black plastic does not last long here, so I am worried. My old antenna lasted 20+ years before the plastic parts crumbled.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Although, I did not expect perfection due to distances, trees etc, I am pleased at how many good clear stations I do receive. Of course including a rotor and pre amp always helps. I know some stations are over 85 miles and am still finding more by obtaining info from stations on distance and degree settings from my location.

Works great

Pros: Easy to install.. Came very quickly.

Cons: Needs mast.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The instructions booklet covered 3 models, mostly for safety, grounding etc., and lacked assembly instructions. I had to scratch my head several times and figure things out for myself. I did not use a wider toothed clamp, but tried like heck thinking it must have been included for a reason. I hope things are sound. Reception without amplification was good. The quality seems good.

Excellent Antenna

KRG from Easton, PA on 9/18/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this antenna with a pre-amp and without a rotor at our camp in a remote area of the Adirondack Mountains. TVFOOL.com projected 6 channels, we're receiving 18! All over 60+ miles away. Greatly exceeded our expectations.

Pros: HD TV for free! Quality built antenna

Cons: Could have been easier to gather everything you need for installation. Some items from Crutchfield, some from other retailers. (Mounting pole, brackets, grounding block, grounding stake, wire and strap, rg6 crimping tool, cable clips, etc) But worth the effort it in the end!

5020 excellent choice

Works so much better than the huge old wineguard.

Pros: 100 mile reception with the amplifier

Cons: $$

Channel Master 100 Mile Antenna

L.T. Davis from George West, Texas on 2/9/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I live approximately 85 air miles from the TV station. I attached the CM 5020 to a 40' tall tower with a signal booster and all of the digital channels were crisp and clear. The quality of the antenna was good and the price was a on the high side but for the quality and performance is a good deal.

Pros: Easy to assemble.

Cons: None

Easy to put up and just flip open. Built pretty sturdy. Should last for years. Again the best feature is the ease of putting it together.
