AudioQuest Forest OptiLink
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Very good link at great price!
Pros: Great quality!
AudioQuest designed the Forest OptiLink cable for those seeking high performance on a budget. Even though it's AQ's most affordable Toslink cable, it's been engineered to provide a distortion-free connection between digital audio source components — CD players, Blu-ray or DVD players — and A/V receivers, DACs, and even some sound bars. The core of the Forest is a single finely polished, low-distortion polymer fiber conductor that minimizes signal loss and jitter (time-based distortion). The cable has full-size Toslink connectors at each end, reinforced by a brass ferrule, which helps ensure ideal light transmission for the highest quality sound.
Optical cables carry signals as pulses of light rather than a stream of electrons, so they are virtually impervious to magnetic or electrical interference. Unlike cables made of wire which require some type of metal connector to transfer the signal between components, in an optical cable, the very tip of the connector is the fiber itself, and it requires special polishing to reduce light refractions. Whether you're feeding stereo music to a DAC or Dolby® Digital surround sound to your receiver, the optical cable is a crucial link in the signal chain and shouldn't be overlooked.

Pros: Great quality!
Seems to be a very good cable. I wish I would have ordered the ten foot..
Great quality. Highly recommend.
These cables were a vast improvement over the cables which came with the soundbar.
Pros: You get what you pay for!
Outstanding cable for my Bluetooth connection from my Audioengine B1 to my home receiver! This made a solid connection!
Pros: Solid connection!
Cons: Non that I can see.
This is first time I have used digital cables and am very impressed with difference they make. Well worth the money...
Best Optical Cable out there!
Pros: Impeccable construction and performance
Well made optical cable.
Upgrading to a Martin Logan soundbar was a big deal to me. Adding this optical cable was even bigger. It brought the Sound bar to life as I had never heard it before. Great cable for a great price. Playing Audio from my Sony Blu ray player has never been better. Shipping was quick and as always Crutchfield nailed it!!!!
Pros: Tight fit, Snapped in place. Small size hardly noticeable, Great price and brought the sound to life.
Needed this cable to connect from the TV to the DAC. Quality cable with a quality build from a company known to have excellent products. Price was very good for what you get.
Pros: Nice cable at a fair price
Great quality, firm connection fit. We
Pros: Price per quality
The 10 feet of digital optical cable ("toslink") I ordered from Crutchfield came absolutely on time and was just what the (HiFi) doctor ordered. The cable looked and operated perfectly.
Pros: Crutchfield's delivery of optical digital cable was both on time and of high quality. The same was true of the Yamaha amp I ordered previously. Based on these experiences, I've found an alternative to other retailers.
Cons: So far I have no negatives to add concerning my dealings with Crutchfield.
Replacing my 20-year-old stereo, a lot of this newfangled technology was new to me, but I was interested in making the most of my newish high-end Samsung TV and bluray player, not to mention my new stereo. Previously sound was routed HDMI to the TV and RCA to the amp, which still works fine if I don't want to turn on the stereo, but now audio is routed directly to a new Yamaha stereo receiver via optical for hi-fi music and movie playback and I must say the sound is excellent. Louder too. Tip #1: Read the directions. I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to remove the covers on the optical jacks, finally dawned on me -- after I got better lighting and put on my glasses -- they are FLAPS! Duh. :-) Tip #2: I failed to notice the tiny plastic cap at each end of the cable to protect the lenses, and when I first turned on my new stereo it sounded terrible, thought I had REALLY screwed something up! :-) Thankfully the caps didn't come off inside the components.
Pros: Superior sound and volume, easy installation.
Cons: I realize there are much costlier opticals out there, but this still seems pretty pricey for such a small (in diameter and length) cable.
Works better than cheaper alternatives.
Pros: Works, all the time, unlike cheaper alternatives and has good built quality + good looks.
Works perfectly for in -wall installation.
The audio cable is louder then the original cable was and a lot easier to use
Pros: Best Cable
I'm a firm believer on upgraded cables, over the standard cheapie cables supplied with electronics, as I have all the best Monster Cables on my Home Theater System. I purchased a Samsung Sound Bar for a basement Television, and added this cable to my purchase, as I didn't need a high $$ cable for this unit, and this moderately price cable has proved to be a great addition. Highly Recommended !!
Pros: A great Cable upgrade at a decent price.
way better than any standard in the box. great entry level audiophile optlink. good bang for the buck
Pros: quality product and price
Awesome product!! I should have bought it sooner.
Pros: An inexpensive way to upgrade my home theater system.
Seems better than what came with the tv.
Pros: Better reception
The most significant difference between this one and my older but rather pricey optical cables was that this one slid into the slot with a snap. My old sound system used to quit working and I couldn't figure out why until I would find the optical cable laying on the floor behind my system. This on fits snug and sound great. I know the quality of the cable and connections are better than my old ones but the fact that it will stay in place to keep the sound going is just as important.
Pros: Quality made. Great, snug fit.
The cable works fine, connectors are high quality
Pros: The cable will certainly fit into small places, it is very small in diameter, but, it works well and seems to be well made.
Cons: Price is high for tight retirement budgets, and I was expecting a thicker cable like the other optical cables that I have. This cable is very thin. Nice for people who like everything miniaturized, but I prefer a heavier cable, this cable is like a string!
Appears to be very well made. It did the job!
I received this cable by the time promised. The way it was boxed by Audioquest was very impressive. The cable is well made and fits nicely. I connected my new Samsung TV to an Onkyo receiver and the sound is great.
Pros: Well made, good quality. Transmits the audio signals very well, just like it's supposed to.
Used this cable between my Kenwood receiver and my Vizeo TV. Works great! Nice heavy cables that should last a long time!
The Forest Optilink is an excellent cable. The sound coming out of my B&W speakers and Martinlogan subwoofer for TV sound makes for a true home theater experience. Thanks for this optical cable.
Excellent quality. I was using the very inexpensive Optical cable that came with my very expensive sound bar and now the sound is much improved. Would definitely recommend the cable. Have used audio quest for years now.
Very nice sturdy cable. Had been using RCA analog cables from cable box to HK receiver. Swapped out for this optical cable. The results were immediate. I was watching the golf channel and I was missing a lot of the broadcast because it was lost in the analog, the sound for just the TV is worth the change, but the music is where the cable shines. The staging and voicing of instruments really came to life.
Pros: You'll hear what you've been missing.
Cons: You'll miss what you're hearing if you go somewhere that isn't set up like this.
Very well designed and manufactured with high quality materials. Superb fit, form, & function!
Simply the best cables you can buy. Expensive, but worth the price if you want the best sight and sound from your equipment...
This cable provides clear and detailed sound ! I can hear the crisp dynamic range of the music, especially during recording on my Tascam ! Awesome!
Pros: Outstanding cable ! Great buy !
High quality well made cabble
Pros: robust cable and connectors
Great value and quick delivery
Cons: No cons
This is a great cable for the price. I am using it to transfer the sound from my Blueray player to a DAC. This cable transfers the sound quality needed to achieve good performance.
Pros: Great value for the price
I had been using regular RCA plugs made by Van Den Hull on my old CD player and switched to this digital hookup and I am very pleased with the sound.
Pros: Easy to install and the sound is excellent and the price is very reasonable
As with everything we get from Crutchfield, performance of this product is a 10 over 10.
Pros: Works as promised
Provides excellent sound and easy to install.
Pros: High quality and easy to use.
Cons: Nothing to say negitively about this product.
This AudioQuest Forest optical digital cable is very high quality. The cable is easy to install, make sure you remove the end caps before installation. The cable provides clear, high quality sound from the television to my home stereo system.
Pros: Very high quality cable, high quality construction.

Pros: works well
Forest Optical cables from Audioquest are awesome. I recommend these cables to anyone wanting great quality performance.
Pros: Very easy to install. Clicks easily into your components!
Good quality and excellent results
Pros: Quality and outstanding results
I needed a digital optical cable to connect my new Sony TV to a surround sound receiver. I did not want to spent $200 or more for one of the many optical cables available. I just wanted sound out of my TV and this AudioQuest "forest" (as in very low cost) was just what I needed. The cable works well and serves the purpose without spending hundreds of dollars just for a cable. For those audiophiles that have unlimited funds, there are more expensive audio cables just for you. I recommend this "forest" model cable if you need a digital audio cable at a reasonable price.
Pros: Low cost for a digital audio cable
this was my first ever OptiLink cable but I was quite impressed with the build quality. Just plugged it in and it worked.
Pros: Well made, easy to manage.
I always trust Audio Quest cables and this one is no exception. The length is adequate for two components, one atop the other. The connection has positive feel. No complaints about the sound.
Pros: Positive connection, top brand name. Good sound!
Excellent product, easy to connect.
Pros: Easy to use
We bought the JBL 200 sound bar ,great sound improvement over the TV speakers ,looks great ,.love it And the blue tooth work so easy with our iPad and iPhone ,for our music. Also very pleased with the support from Crutchfield it was not that easy for to set up but with there help we got it going .There is still and issue with our Dish DVR ,,speakers go silent still when you use it ,working on it . If you buy a JBL 200 you will need a longer fiber optic cable the one that comes with barely reaches . You would just think that JBL would spend a dollar or 2 more and give you a longer cable !!!!! I give it 5 stars if it were not for the cable, and instructions other wise 5 stars
Pros: Sounds great our room is not that big so the 200 is perfect. Love the look of it
Cons: You need you pay extra for a longer cable ,
This cable does what it is supposed to do and provides sound you would expect. Make sure you attach the ends to the equipment tightly.
Pros: Reasonable Price for a quality cable
Cons: A little hard to attach to my TV but it did fit my speaker system properly.
Audioquest OptiLink-Forest Series Optical Cable: Audioquest OptiLink-Forest optical (toslink) cables feature a thoroughly engineered, finely polished polymer fiber conductor to minimize signal loss and jitter (time-based distortion). The plug's brass ferrule also contributes to ideal light transmission and the highest quality sound. The conductor is surrounded by a black & green flexible PVC jacket. Each connector has a clear plastic protector that should be removed before use. The plug is shaped so that it will only fit one way into the component's Toslink connector.
