Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 3.0 The Alpine UTE-73BT features built-in Bluetooth 3.0 with support for hands-free communication and wireless music streaming. You'll be able to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver, as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

  • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), PBAP 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
  • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.3 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Alpine UTE-73BT.

Multi-Device Pairing + Dual Phone Connection: You can pair up to three Bluetooth-enabled devices with the Alpine head unit. You are even able to keep two Bluetooth-enabled phones connected at the same time, so you can make and receive calls from either phone through the head unit. You can only stream music from one phone at a time; you will be able switch between the two phones front the head unit's rotary control dial. When a previous paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically connects the two units.

  • Secure Simple Pairing (SSP): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Alpine UTE-73BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings.
  • Auto Pairing (for iPhone): You can also pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) by simply connecting it to the Alpine head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.

Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled smartphone (including iPhone & Android). Thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the UTE-73BT provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The controls of the UTE-73BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone, so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can initiate a transfer of audio between your mobile phone and your car's speakers.

  • Receiving A Call: The Alpine UTE-73BT provides a couple ways to answer your phone calls without picking up your phone. Incoming calls are announced by a caller ring tone through your vehicle's speakers (music will be muted) & a Caller ID message across your Alpine head unit's display.
    • Manual Answer: Manually answer an incoming call by pressing the "Phone" button on your Alpine head unit.
    • Automatic Answer: Set the Alpine head unit to answer the incoming call automatically; when a call is received, it is answered automatically after approximately 3 or 10 seconds.
    • Call Waiting: If a second call is received during a current call, you can have the first caller wait momentarily while you take the second call. When you are finished with one call, you can switch to the other.
  • Making A Call: The Alpine UTE-73BT provides a variety of functions for placing a phone call without using your mobile phone. The Alpine UTE-73BT features full phone book access, call history, voice tag dialing, and redial with compatible phones.
    • Voice Dialing: If you have a voice-dial capable phone, you can dial a phone contact by simply speaking the name of your contact.
    • Phonebook (with ABC search): Up to 1,000 contacts (5 telephone numbers for each name) can be downloaded from your compatible mobile phone. You can select the first 3 call letters (ABC) to search for a desired name in your phonebook.
    • Call History: The previously dialed, received, or missed numbers (20 each) can be retrieved and dialed from memory.
    • Redial: You can easily redial the number or contact you dialed last from the head unit's front-panel controls.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Alpine UTE-73BT supports wireless music streaming (A2DP) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or audio player. You'll be able to wirelessly stream stored music, music apps, and other audio content from your Bluetooth source device to the Alpine head unit. The UTE-73BT will process your Bluetooth audio using its built-in DSP Sound Expansion to ensure you get the best sound.

  • SBC + AAC Codecs: In addition to support for the standard SBC Bluetooth audio codec, the UTE-73BT offers support of AAC.  By supporting AAC, the Alpine receiver offers better audio performance of the music streamed from your Apple iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
  • Playback Control: The UTE-73BT will be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, Fast Forward/Rewind and Random/Repeat. Advanced music browsing (such as song/artist/album search) will still need to be done from your Bluetooth source device.
  • Song/Artist Display: The head unit will also display your stored music and music app's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (not compatible with all apps).
  • Volume Level: You can adjust the volume level of your connected Bluetooth devices from -6dB to + 6dB. This negates the need to adjust the volume level between sources each time.
Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired and connected to an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth, the Alpine UTE-73BT has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press-and-hold down on the head unit's "Voice" button to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the UTE-73BT and its microphone. You even can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit's display will only indicate hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the UTE-73BT; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

External Mic: The included external microphone is tuned and engineered to reduce noise interference and feedback. This allows optimal placement in your car, for the best possible sound quality. The external microphone measures 0.5625" (diameter) x 1.5625" (deep); and features an attached 11.5' cable terminated by a right-angle mono-male 3.5mm connector.

Android/iPhone Integration

Android Direct Connect via USB: The Alpine UTE-73BT enables playback of stored music and music apps on select Android devices through its front-panel USB port. There are two types of modes (AOA 2.0 or MTP) to choose from based on your type of Android smartphone and what content you want to listen to.

  • AOA 2.0 (Stored Music & Music Apps): The UTE-73BT supports Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), which lets you connect your Android smartphone (OS 4.1-7.1.2) to the UTE-73BT's front-panel USB port and listen to stored music and music apps from your Android device through the Alpine head unit. You'll be able to control basic playback functions, such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. Other advanced music navigation will still be done from your Android smartphone's touchscreen. In this mode, the head unit will not display song/artist information; only "Android Mode" will show up on display. You'll continue to view song/artist information from the Android device's touchscreen. You'll still be able to access other functions and applications from your Android smartphone's touchscreen, while listening to music through the head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
  • MTP (Stored Music + Song/Artist Info): The UTE-73BT also supports MTP for playback & control of stored MP3/WMA music files on your Android (OS 4.0+) device through the Alpine receiver's front-panel USB port. In this mode, you get basic playback control (like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), plus song/artist information on the receiver's front-panel LCD. During MTP connection, you cannot use your Android smartphone's touchscreen to control music playback and you cannot select music apps from your smartphone for playback. However, you can continue to listen to stored music on your Android smartphone through the head unit while you check your Calendar, Facebook, Texts, etc on your phone.
Note: You will need to setup Android connectivity within the head unit's menu. Select "MSC/MTP" for MTP playback and "Android" for AOA 2.0 playback.

iPhone Direct Connection: The Alpine UTE-73BT's front-panel USB port can be used to connect select Apple iOS devices to the head unit. The USB connection allows for playback of stored music and music apps on your compatible iPod or iPhone through Alpine receiver. Compatible Apple iOS devices include the iPhone 4S and newer, iPtod touch 5th gen and newer, as well as the iPod nano 7th gen and newer.

  • Basic Playback Control: You are able to control basic playback and search functions from the head unit, such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. Advanced music browsing (such as song/artist/album search) will still need to be done from your Apple iPod or iPhone device's touchscreen.
  • Song/Artist/Album Display: The Alpine digital media receiver will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information. The UTE-73BT will display artist name, song title, and album label.
Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

Smartphone Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected Apple iPod/iPhone or Android smartphone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

Pandora + AM/FM Radio

Pandora Internet Radio App: The free Pandora App (for Apple iOS and Android OS) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Alpine UTE-73BT using your Bluetooth connected Apple iPhone or Android smartphone. Your iPhone or Android smartphone must support A2DP/AVRCP/SPP Bluetooth profiles and be paired with the Alpine receiver. Your iPhone or Android smartphone will also need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G) or WiFi. The UTE-73BT provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information.

  • Station List: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically.
  • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
  • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
  • Bookmarking: The song or artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.
Note: Access to these online service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or smartphone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada and only available in the United States.

RDS AM/FM Tuner: The Alpine UTE-73BT features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. The built-in tuner provides 18 FM and 12 AM preset stations. The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist & track information when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.

USB/Aux Playback

USB MSC Compatibility: In addition to iPhone & Android connectivity, the Alpine head unit's front-panel USB port enables connection of a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) device, such as a USB thumbdrive or portable digital audio player. The USB port supports audio playback and control of MP3, WMA, AAC, & FLAC audio files stored on a compatible USB mass-storage class device. USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the digital media receiver's USB port (max. 1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

Note: The head unit's USB port is not compatible with USB hubs or card readers.

Q
Is the top volume over 30 ?
dacoye  Feb 28, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Dacoye, great question. So Alpine does not list what the numeric top number for volume is but volume number does not necessarily translate to higher volume levels as this Alpine has different volume breakdowns depending on audio source playing through. So regardless of what the max number is, that numbers audio meaning in decibels will vary. For example for wireless Bluetooth audio the volume can only go from -6dB to + 6dB, while auxiliary will be -8dB to +18dB.

Clock auto adjust? I'm used to setting all my clocks 10 min early. I set it 2x and now it reads same time as my phone.
preston  Feb 27, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Preston. Thank you for your question. The Alpine has an auto clock set. It uses the radio data system. If that is set to on, it will change accordingly from the information it receivers thru the air from local radio stations. To change that you need to turn off the RDS CT setting.

Q
can you play music off your memory stick?

Greetings Clifford. Thank you for your question. The front USB input supports music files stored on that drive. Supported file types are on the details tab.

Q
will I be able to connect to Sirius?
daniel  Feb 11, 2024
1 answer
A
The Alpine UTE-73BT is not "XM Ready" and has no input to use the required Sirius XM tuner in the first link below for built-in XM radio features, Daniel. You can still use the XM app on your smartphone through Bluetooth with the Alpine. If you can consider other radio brands, the Kenwood KMM-BT332U in the second link below is "XM Ready" and compatible with the external tuner for built-in XM radio. Make sure to confirm fit in your specific vehicle with our online Vehicle Guide. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_220SXV300/SiriusXM-SXV300V1-Tuner.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KMBT332/Kenwood-KMM-BT332U.html

Q
Dimensions. Depth?
jack  Feb 05, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Jack. Thank you for your question. Chassis alone is 6.505 inches. With the protrusion of the rear RCA outputs its 7.055 inches. If you are needing a very shallow stereo, Kenwood and JVC media players are under 5 inches deep.

Q
is the remote turn on wire blue or blue/white on this stereo?
justin  Jan 02, 2024

A
Greetings Justin, the amp turn on wire is blue/white. Blue is for a power antenna.

Q
does it retain the radio stations that you programmed ?- Ive spent hours programming the stations and when I turn off and back on the unit I have no stations?
mark  Nov 28, 2023
1 answer
A
The Alpine UTE-73BT does retain settings Mark, as long as the yellow 12v constant power lead remains connected to power when the key is turned off. I would doublecheck your wiring and that connection, as it sounds like the radio is losing all power and memory settings when you are turning off your vehicle. I hope this helps!

Q
I plan to use this head unit in my truck with two JBL 421F speakers (30w RMS/90w peak in B pillars) and a two channel dash speaker (100w peak? In center of dash), will this unit have enough output power to be loud enough in the truck or will it need an amplifier as well?
magnaman8812  Oct 22, 2023
1 answer
A
This Alpine UTE-73BT has a solid amp built-in, Zane. It is fairly well matched to your JBL 421F speakers and will provide good power to your center dash stereo speaker. With efficient speakers like the JBL's the radio will work very well, but if you desire more power an amp is going to be the call. You do have preamp outputs on the Alpine for use with external amplifiers, but you would need to be careful to choose an amp that would not overpower your JBL 421F's that can only handle 30-watts RMS. I would try the radio first and see if it meets your needs, if you did want a little more power the Alpine KTP-445U power pack in the link below is an excellent choice. It is technically too powerful for your JBL 421F speakers, so proper setup with a high-pass crossover on those channels would be crucial to avoid damage. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500KTP445U/Alpine-KTP-445U-Power-Pack.html

Q
Does this headunit work with the alpine power pack 445a?
dante g  Oct 15, 2023
1 answer
A
I see no reason why not, Dante. The Alpine Power Pack 445a will not mount to the rear of this unit but can be used to boost the power and would be a nice compliment to the sound quality of the UTE-73BT.

I have this head unit for my 2002 Toyota Solara and need to update its sound system entirely as it's old and worn out. What are compatible options if the your site tells me the UTE system isn't one?
alex.  Aug 05, 2023
1 answer
A
There should be only one version of the 2002 Toyota Solara's that we show this radio won't fit into and its one that we show no radio fitting into because we were not able to research it to find out what's needed. It is the version that is a convertible and came without the JBL audio system. If you have any other version of the 2002 Solara, I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 as we can get this radio installed into it and also perform other upgrades as well.

nathan  Apr 19, 2023

Greetings Nathan, and thank you for your question. Car stereos come with either a mono sub out, or a left/right sub out. Ways to add a second sub is if your first sub has another output, or Y split the output from the stereo then tom two subs. So yes, you can add another, but you might need some adapters.

Q
Are these 4 channels bridgeable?
chris  Mar 30, 2023
1 answer
A
You cannot combine or bridge any channels on the Alpine UTE-73BT Digital media receiver, Chris. If you are looking to drive a subwoofer and four speakers off your radio, consider the Sony DSX-GS80 in the link below. This is a special unit, with onboard hi-power amplification and the subwoofer direct-connect feature. With the Subwoofer Direct and 2-ohm Speaker Load option, you can hook up a mono subwoofer directly to the built-in class-D amplifier together with four speakers. The unique 2-ohm load selector delivers high power without risking amp or speaker damage. Channel 1 delivers power and signal to the front left and rear left speakers, while channel 2 delivers power and audio signal to the front right and rear right speakers. Channel 3 delivers power and audio signal to your mono subwoofer (channel 4 is not used). This still isn't technically bridging, but it does allow you some interesting options for your system! If you install this radio in your vehicle, we advise using a separate power kit in the second link below for best performance. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_158DSXGS80/Sony-DSX-GS80.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CK12/Crutchfield-CK12.html

Greetings Zach, and thank you for your question. The installation gear we have for the 2006 Z4 will bypass the factory Carver amplifier. Q
Is the brightness / lighting of the unit able to be dimmed?
carl  Apr 30, 2020
1 answer
A
You sure can adjust the brightness of this Alpine receiver's display from 1 to 10. This unit is also equipped with an illumination lead (orange); when the unit's dimmer mode is set to Auto and the illumination lead is connected to your vehicle's headlight circuit, the display and button illumination will dim to the preset Brightness level whenever the headlights are turned on. If preferred, you may choose the Manual dimmer mode setting, so the display and button illumination is dim at all times.

Q
Is this compatible with a 6 disk CD changer?
braegen  Mar 12, 2020
2 answers
A
Hi Breagen, please reach out to an Advisor by online chat or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. CD changers are typically not compatible with aftermarket receivers, but we will be happy to confirm that for you.
jessica  Mar 27, 2020 (Staff)
A
Braegen, I only use this for streaming, bluetooth and live radio, if this is CD changer compatible you need to look in the specs of the product. I haven't used CD's in over 5 years so I do not see a need to use that portion of the product. Ihavent even used the internal CD player. If I was making stereo systems to day I would forgo the CD altogether. I purchased this almost 2 years ago.

Q
I see what look like RCA outs in the picture. Will those drive speakers? If so, is a line output converter required? Thanks.
jake  Jan 07, 2020
3 answers
A
RCA outputs are not powered outputs, meaning they will NOT power speakers. They send a line level signal that an amplifier can take and the amplifier will then power the signal. The unit does have a 4 channel amplifier built in that can be used to power most speakers, but those are not the RCA outputs.
thomas  Jan 21, 2020 (Staff)
A
RCA will not drive the speakers...it's just a signal for the amplifier . On the front is just your auxiliary and usb inputs...
derek  Jan 21, 2020
A
The RCA outs are for an amplifier. The unit has a built in amp that will drive your speakers.

Q
Does this alpine unit only have 3-band parametric EQ? The owner manual mentions EQ PRESET. Is that correct?
pakly  May 28, 2019
3 answers
A
Yes, the unit has a customizable parametric eq or the listener can choose from pre-set values (rock, pop, news, etc). When setting the eq manually options are very limited with regards to center frequency and Q. Don't expect to use it for more than making wide sweeping changes. If you are trying to tune out a resonance at a particular frequency you will still need a digital signal processor.

The deck has preset's AND manual. I never use the presets.

Q
What are the frequencies of the 3 band eq and Bass Engine SQ? Manual is useless.
nathaniel  Jan 23, 2019
1 answer
A
You can choose between 5kHz, 10kHz, 12.5kHz, or 15kHz for the treble. Between 500Hz, 1.0kHz, 1.5kHz, or 2.5kHz for the midrange. Between 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 120Hz for the Bass. I cannot find any information on the bass frequencies that are adjust with the various Bass Engine SQ settings. I recommend contacting Alpine to see if they have any additional information on that part. I found 800-421-2284 for their support phone number My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul
