When the folks at Alpine got their first look at the 2002 Acura RSX, they knew they'd found the right car to show off their cutting-edge products. Installers Steve Brown and Chris Yato from Alpine's Advanced Application R&D department spent over 2000 hours completely rebuilding the Acura's interior, and when it was all over, only the carpet remained stock!

They replaced the stock dash with a custom-fabricated, neon-lit fiberglass wonder complete with its independent floating gauge cluster. This piece houses the stock gauges (relocated to the center of the car) along with a full set of Auto Meter dials to keep track of RPM, fuel pressure, nitrous pressure, oil pressure, and voltage.

The bottom of the dash wraps around the driver and passenger, placing the CDA-7995 CD/MP3 receiver and two TME-M760 6.5" widescreen monitors in perfect view. The top monitor shows your choice of DVD or X-Box video sources (when the car is parked), while the bottom screen is strictly for route guidance from the NVE-N852A DVD navigation system. The top of the floating dash holds an SPX-F13M component speaker set (with an extra tweeter) to bring the center channel of the Dolby Digital 5.1 system to life.

These units are surrounded by a custom ABS plastic trim panel that blends into the center console area around the six-speed shifter. The PXA-H510 processor's control unit resides in the passenger's side of the dash, decoding DVD audio tracks into Dolby 5.1 to make the RSX's interior seem like front row at the movie theater. The dash also molds into the door panels, which are completely rebuilt to showcase two SPX-F13M component sets (each set consists of a single 5-1/4" woofer and 1-1/8" tweeter) per door.

With the rear hatch of the RSX open, you can check out the heart of the system — four MRD-M500 mono AccuClass-D and two MRV-F340 multi-channel power amplifiers, suspended on three levels by a welded tubular steel structure. Each MRD-M500 amp sends 250 watts to each coil of the two SWR-1541D 15" dual voice coil subwoofers, housed in two six-foot-long fiberglass panels that surround the amp rack.

The two 4-channel MRV-F340 amps (55 watts RMS x 4) drive the seven sets of SPX-F13M single-channel component sets — one set in the center dash, two in each door, and two in the rear. The six amplifiers pump out over 3000 watts of clean power to keep things rockin'. Suspended above this tower of power on a neon-lit and painted arch is the central video system — a DHA-S680 DVD/CD changer and three more TME-M760 widescreen monitors, each showing a different source (DVD changer, navigation, and X-Box video game).

The interior was only the first step in the reconstruction of the RSX. Wings West totally rebuilt the exterior, including wheels, body, side skirts, front and rear bumpers, nitrous oxide system, custom paint job, and a carbon fiber hood. A variety of Alpine products are ready for action in the Acura's redesigned cockpit. The factory gauges have all been relocated to the middle of the dash.
