Please enter your vehicle information to confirm compatibility.
Note: You are able to keep your vehicle's factory installed Navigation, Satellite Radio, CD-changer, RSE (rear entertainment system), USB port, and/or Aux input.

Bluetooth Pairing: The USA Spec BT45-HON3 can only be paired and connected to one Bluetooth device at a time. Its compatible with most Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices such as Apple iPod touch/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, Windows phone, and more.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the USA Spec BT45-HON3.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication (HFP): The USA Spec BT45-HON3 supports Bluetooth Profile HFP for hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, so you can take (answer/end) phone calls through your vehicle's factory radio.

  • Answering a Phone Call: When there is an incoming call, your factory stereo's music will be muted and an audible ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle speakers. You can even have the BT45-HON3 announce the caller's phone number through your sound system; and for most text-capable radios if you miss the announcement, you can view the caller's phone number on your factory radio's display. To answer the call, simply press the Tune Up, CH+, or Track/Seek Up button on your factory radio or steering wheel control. To end or reject a call, press the Tune Down, CH-, or Track/Seek Down button on your factory radio or steering wheel control.
  • Dialing a Phone Number: In order to dial a phone number, you will still need to use your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone; you cannot dial a number from the factory radio. Once you've dialed a number from your mobile phone, then the call will be automatically transferred to the BT45-HON3 and your factory stereo system.
  • External Microphone: The USA Spec BT45-HON3 includes an external microphone to carry on your side of the conversation, while the caller's voice will be heard through your vehicle's speakers. The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found in many factory or aftermarket head units. The microphone is fitted with a 16' cable terminated by a 3.5mm connector that connects to the BT45-HON3 module; it measures 0.9375" (w) x 0.6875" (h) x 1.625" (d). The microphone has a self-adhesive backing to mount it to your vehicle's driver-side pillar, head-liner trim, or dash (do not mount it to the windshield.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming (A2DP/AVRCP): The BT45-HON3 supports Bluetooth Profiles A2DP and AVRCP for wireless audio streaming from a Bluetooth-enabled device that can also be controlled from the buttons on your vehicle's factory radio or steering wheel; in some cases you can also view song/artist information on your factory radio's display.

  • Wireless Music Streaming: You can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or stream music apps (such as Pandora, SiriusXM Radio, iHeartRadio, etc.) that are playing on your Bluetooth device to your vehicle's sound system (all speakers will play).
  • Music Control: You can control Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track functions from your vehicle's factory radio or steering wheel controls (other control functions will have to be done from your Bluetooth enabled device). You can control the volume of the music being streamed via your factory radio and steering wheel controls, or the Bluetooth device.
  • Song/Artist Information: In many cases, you can view artist, album, and song title information on your factory radio's display. In order to view song/artist information on your factory radio's display, your factory radio and your Bluetooth-enabled device must meet the following requirements:
    • Your factory radio must have an XM button; a satellite radio does not need to be activated, nor does the satellite radio tuner need to be present.
    • If you are using a Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod touch/iPhone/iPad, then it must be running iOS 6 or higher. If you are using a Bluetooth-enabled Android smartphone/tablet, then it must be running Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) or higher operating system.
    • Your device's Bluetooth AVRCP profiles must be 1.4 or higher.

Auxiliary Input: In addition to wireless Bluetooth connectivity, the USA Spec BT45-HON3 is fitted with an auxiliary audio input (3.5mm) for connection of practically any portable audio device with a headphone jack output or analog audio output.

USB Charging Port: The USA Spec BT45-HON3 features a USB (type-A) port to charge your smartphone or other portable audio device in your vehicle. Because the BT45-HON3 is a hide-away device, you'll want to purchase a USB extension cable (sold separately) to make the unit's USB charging port accessible. The USB charging port is rated at 5V/2.1A.

Note: This USB port is for charging only; it does not support music streaming.

Dip Switches: There are 4 dip switches that will need to be configured to match the type of factory radio you have; either XM or non-XM.

Installation: For vehicles with factory radios that do not support XM Satellite Radio, the USA Spec BT45-HON3 installs behind the factory radio. For vehicles with factory radios that do support XM Satellite Radio, the USA Spec BT45-HON3 installs at the satellite tuner location (typically behind the glove box, in the trunk, or under a seat).

I have an '07 Civic Hybrid, when streaming audio does the song info scroll on the screen? Furthermore does it automatically switch to to bluetooth if I'm listening to music on the FM radio?

Q
I have a Honda Accord coupe 2008 EXL with factory nav/ XM. But I would like to install the Bluetooth module behind the Radio dash instead of the rear trunk. Is it possible ? Or my only option is to install it behind the trunk ?
jose  Apr 01, 2021
3 answers
A
I don't know the answer but on my 2003 accord (no factory nav) I found there was an unused female plug on the bottom of my factory stereo which the BT-45 could plug into directly. This was not in the instructions. Unit works well.
james h  Apr 01, 2021
A
I installed it in a 2007 Odyssey behind the radio, and there was plenty of space. I don't know how much room there will be behind radio in the Accord, but it should be relatively easy to pull the radio out and see.
art  Apr 01, 2021
A
I am not familiar with the connection location on the coupe with xma/nav. The main connector and cable assy doesn't seem like it would be long enough. Crutchfield has pretty good online information. I think it is dependent on the xm box location. If I remember correctly the cable/connector has to connect to the xm receiver box. There are some honda models without xm that connect directly at the radio . When connected in this manner they function slightly different. Recommend checking the hon manual closely.

Q
2008 Honda Element - XM radio preview plays in the background while making calls or listening to bluetooth. Is this possibly a DIP switch issue?
james  Dec 25, 2020
1 answer
A
It could be a DIP switch issue, maybe you have your wires crossed. I have not experienced any problems with my unit. It operates fine with no issues since I installed it in my 2004 Acura TL. Mines was installed in the trunk area on the right side next to navigation unit. If that helps. Good Luck ?? with everything. Crutchfield products are the Best!

This says 03-14 Hondas. Will it work for an '04 pilot? Vehicle specific says it won't work.
ted  Sep 20, 2020
1 answer
A
I have 08 odyssey and it did not work for me, factory XM cable was wider than the 14 pin size provided for the BT45-HON3, I bought the BT45-HON3 in Nov 2018 but only tried fitting it 1 months ago. It will be nice to know if crutchfield would have a wider CAS-H3X part to fit the XM cable

The cd changer on my 2006 Honda Pilot with navigation and XM doesn't work. Can I plug this Bluetooth device into the cd connection on the back of the radio?

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Can I install permananent AUX cable into the unit and store the unit out of sight to plug in ipod to external AUX connection? And switch between BT and AUX? Or would this require me to have unit accessible to plug/unplug into AUX port?

There are several variables that apply to your question. I am unable to provide an answer without knowing answers to several questions about your vehicle, radio, and other equipment. I suggest that you contact USA SPEC directly so they can assist you in deciding what would work best for your specific requirements. See their web page for more info and to download a manual. usaspec (DOT) com info (AT) usaspec (DOT) com

2012 honda odyssey LX doesn't have steering wheel controls. How can I answer calls without opening the phone? Or is there another piece I could add for steering wheel controls?

The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. I have a 2010 Honda Element with navigation. It has a built in mic. Would I be able to use that rather than the one that comes with this?
inkedgeekgal  Mar 19, 2019

A
Don't really know. My vehicle was a 2007 Accord sedan with a factory radio w/ CD player. It doesn't have navigation. However, that product works fine for Bluetooth "hands free" calls & streaming music.
brian g  Mar 21, 2019
A
I don't think so. I installed it in a 2005 Honda Accord and ran the mic cord through the roof lining to install it.
jay  Mar 20, 2019
A
No. I have a similar setup with a 2007 Ridgeline and the BT45 only works with the supplied mic plugged into the mic port. I get good results with that mic mounted to the top of the steering column with double-sided tape.
brian  Mar 19, 2019
Q
Will it replace original in my 2015 Acura tlx ?
joe  Mar 15, 2019
1 answer
A
This device connects to your existing audio system. My car is a 2005 Acura TSX with navigation. This made install easier as it plugged into the system by removing a side panel in the truck. With out navigation it must be hard wired into the head unit in the dash. Much more involved. My car is the only one I can confirm installation. Hope this helps.
abigail  Mar 15, 2019
Q
Do I need to use the provided microphone for this device to stream? My 13 Ridgeline already has HFL for phone calls, just want to add streaming capability. Will his device work?
michael  Mar 05, 2019
5 answers
A
Streaming capability and microphone use are separate. This unit will add the ability for you to connect your phone or media device using the Bluetooth function, so you can play whatever you want through the factory Honda stereo. Or you can jack in direct through this unit's auxiliary port, if you don't have Bluetooth. Hope that helps.
jamie  Mar 18, 2019
A
They nailed it! You don't have the have the microphone plugged if you are only going to use it for streaming audio. The microphone is only needed if you will use it for hands free phone calling. My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul
jason  Mar 11, 2019 (Staff)
A
I don't think so, unless it also acts at an antenna. It was so easy to plug and play. I put it in a 2004 Accord and had to run the microphone because it didn't have hands free. It works flawlessly!
roland  Mar 10, 2019
A
I don't know if the device stands alone as a way to stream music, for example. I think you still need another device to make a bluetooth connection with. I use it and the mic to connect with my phone for calls and downloaded podcasts, etc., on my phone. I suspect you could stream thru your phone, but I haven't tried due to data limits on my plan. I have an older car without bluetooth, so that's why I purchased the device. A little tricky hooking up because I have Sirius XM and it had to connect thru one of the channel modes, but works great for my purpose. Hope it helps. Bill D
william  Mar 10, 2019
A
I connected the provided microphone, but you don't have to connect it to be able to stream. I don't have a HFL on my Honda 2005 Accord so connecting it was ideal for me. This unit works great, I am going to leave it installed when I give the car to my son because he loves it. You can't go wrong Michael P.

Q
Will the factory 3.5mm Aux input in the center console still work in my 2009 CRV?
daniel  May 12, 2018

A
It should. You're device will connect via bluetooth to the BT45-HON3, and it will use the XM-1 input selection on your radio. You should still be able to switch to Aux for the 3.5mm input.
steve  May 14, 2018
Q
Does this work with Siri? I hear only BT45-AUX does, but the latter is universal and not specific to Honda, yes? Which is better?

The unit I own(BT45-HON3) will hear my response to SIRI and respond. My vehicle does not have steering wheel controls. I activate SIRI directly from the IPhone and wait for the vehicle to play the audio. Never a need to take my eyes off the road. Do not know how the other units will work with my vehicle so I cant rate themor suggest one over the other. The one I own is Awesome!

richie  May 06, 2018

Yes, this item does work with Siri. I have mine installed in a 2007 Honda CRV. I am very pleased with this product and would highly recommend to everyone. Music quality is very good and sound with phone calls(both your hearing and the person on the other end) is very good.
robert  May 06, 2018
A
No I don't believe it does. I am no longer the owner of the vehicle I purchased this unit for, so I'm unable to verify

Q
Has anyone had their radio not detect the module, and when it happens, what or how do I reset it to turn it on again?
antonio l  Mar 18, 2018

A
I had to connect mines to the xm radio unit in the trunk of my car. At first installation I had a problem when first installed. I unplugged the unit and then reconnected all connection and it has worked perfect ever since then. If your car does not have bluetooth, this unit if definitely worth the money it costs.
julio  Mar 10, 2019
A
You got to connect it to the back trunk to the antenna, it doesn't connect to the radio in the dash. Go to the trunk. To the right panel unclip the side and connect it to the antenna.

How many volts does the microphone port provide to an external 3.5 mm microphone? I need to replace the microphone on my unit and the one I really like requires 1.5 V to 10 V to function properly.

I'm afraid the voltage of the microphone input is not provided in our research or the owner's manual. However, we do carry the direct OEM replacement mic from USA Spec that you can purchase for the BT45-HON3 adapter: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_581MIC45/USA-Spec-MIC45.html If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

I also have the 2007 Touring with Nav and RES and this adapter works perfectly. Just make sure that when you install it that the connectors are seated properly.

On our 2006 MDX, it does not take any functions away. It operates on XM 1 band. We still have XM2 and XM3 regarding preset buttons. The functions of the audio system are not altered otherwise.

I'm not sure about the 2007 model, on my wife's 2006 Odyssey it integrated seemlessly and without issues. The steering wheel controls advance the track whether it's with the phones mp3 player, Pandora or slacker. Hope this helps.

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Depends on the Version of the Pandora App. It worked great after I first installed the adapter, then I went 6 months with out it displaying anything then it started working again a month ago after updating the app.

Q
What kind of DAC chip does the BT45-HON3 have?
adam  Apr 01, 2015

A
Hi, The first response you got was a bit off the mark, and I'm sorry about that. I'll follow up on that. Bluetooth is a digital transfer, but there is not a separate DAC in this piece. The DAC is built into the Bluetooth 2.1 chipset. We reached out to USA SPEC on this and they sent along this additional info: Bluetooth 2.1 added Secure Simple Pairing versus Bluetooth 2.0 for easier pairing and better security Bluetooth 2.1 supports the same SBC codec as 2.0 with support of up to 512kb/s and 44.1/48kHz in 2-channel stereo (it does not support higher bit rate codecs like AAC for Apple and aptX for Android) Data rate speeds of up to 2.1 Mbit/s (same as 2.0)
