Audio Section

30W + 30W Discrete Amplifier: The Denon D-M41S is equipped with a 30 watt x 2-channel high power amplifier for serious HiFi quality sound. A newly-developed discrete analogue amplifier circuit reduces signal paths for greater clarity and impact. The Denon D-M41S is also equipped with robust power supplies that feature dual power transformers to provide a stable supply of electric current, resulting in lower impedance handling and greater power output.

Simple & Straight Circuit Design: The Denon D-M41S gives you high quality sound based on the "Simple & Straight" concept. Circuitry is uncomplicated, signal paths are short, and all adverse influences on sound quality have been minimized. The circuit design and the way the chassis is built ensure the sound you hear is faithful to the original performance.

Triple Noise Reduction Design: In an audio component where various circuits, boards, and wire layouts can influence each other, it is not possible to obtain satisfying specifications or sound simply by strengthening the power amp circuit. Denon has therefore eliminated three sources of noise to ensure that the sound is as clean as possible. Distortion from the input selector, electronic volume and power amp has been suppressed to improve the signal-to-noise ratio and produce an even smoother, dramatic sound.

  • Short signal paths, to optimize sound quality and minimize noise.
  • Thorough separation of digital and analog sections.
  • Precision signal ground circuit, to preserve signal purity.

24-Bit/192kHz DAC: The Denon D-M41S HiFi component system employs a high-precision 24-bit/192kHz DAC (digital-to-analog converter) to reproduce high-definition sound.

Headphone Amplifier: This unit is equipped with a high-quality headphone amplifier with adjustable gain (High/Middle/Low). A variety of headphones are supported. The D-M41S is equipped with a front-panel 3.5mm headphone output for private listening. Once a headphone is connected, the system's speakers will automatically mute.

Audio Adjustments: The Denon D-M41S offers various audio adjustments to tailor the sound to your music taste.

  • Optimizing Filter: An optimizing filter suited specifically for the properties of the included loudspeakers can be activated.
  • Tone Control: The D-M41S feature separate bass and treble tone controls (-10 to +10dB) for adjusting the tone of the system to your taste.
  • Super Dynamic Bass: The Super Dynamic Bass (SDB) circuit produces powerful bass sound even when the volume of the system is low.
  • Source Direct: The Source Direct feature is provided for turning off the tone control and SDB circuitry to make the system's response naturally flat.

Speaker & Subwoofer Outputs: The Denon D-M41S is fitted with four binding-post speaker terminals that will accept pin-connectors, single-banana plugs, and bare wire (up to 14-gauge). The D-M41S also features a mono-RCA subwoofer output for connecting a power subwoofer to the system for additional bass.

Bookshelf Loudspeakers: The included bookshelf loudspeakers have been designed with Denon HiFi craftsmanship and European sound engineering. For best performance a high quality 4.75" midrange/midbass driver has been combined with a high-definition 1" tweeter and a crossover network with selected components inside a bass reflex enclosure to reproduce smooth, natural sound.

  • Two-Way Driver Design: The bookshelf loudspeakers feature a two-way driver design with a 1" tweeter and 4.75" midrange/midbass woofer. The soft-dome tweeter feature extended response to 40 kHz, along with wide dispersion and high power handling thanks to the advanced coil and dome air venting system. The powerful cone woofer feature Denon's Double Layer convex cone technology, which provides deep bass and clear mid-range free of coloration caused by cone flex distortion, and also features air venting for optimum cooling during extended passages of high volume.
  • Bass Reflex Enclosure: The bookshelf loudspeakers employ a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing port for greater efficiency and bass response. Foam port inserts are supplied to seal the cabinet for tighter, more accurate bass. The speakers feature a black wood-grain vinyl finish and a black cloth removable grille.
  • Binding Post Terminals: Each speaker features two binding post speaker terminals that will accommodate pin-connectors, single banana plugs, and bare wire (up to 14-gauge). The speaker's binding posts are color-coded (red/black) for easy identification between positive and negative.
  • Mounting Options: The bookshelf loudspeakers can be simply placed on a table-top, shelf, or stand. The optional PinPoint heavy duty side-grip wall-mounting bracket (121AM41B, sold separately) can be used to wall mount the speakers (the speakers do not feature a keyhole slot or threaded insert).
Variety Of Sources

CD Player: The Denon D-M41S features a front-loading, single tray CD player that supports playback of CD-Audio & CD-Text discs (12 or 8cm). The D-M41S also supports playback of MP3 (32/44/1/48kHz; 32-320kbps) and WMA (32/44.1/48kHz; 64-192kbps) files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. A low gravity CD mechanism is used to reduce vibration. The unit can be setup so playback starts automatically when a disc is inserted.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming: Bluetooth 4.0 (A2DP 1.3/AVRCP 1.5) is integrated to allow instant wireless connectivity (up to 33') with smartphones, tablets and computers. You'll be able to stream stored music, music apps and other audio content from your Bluetooth source device to the Denon D-M41S. The Bluetooth circuitry has been designed complete with an on/off selector, offering convenient wireless connection when required, plus enhanced sound from the other sources like CD, FM or Optical Digital when it's not in use.

  • SBC + AAC Codecs: In addition to support for the standard SBC Bluetooth audio codec, the D-M41S offers support of AAC.  By supporting AAC, the Denon receiver offers better audio performance of the music streamed from your Apple iPod/iPhone/Pad.
  • Multi-Device Pairing: Up to eight Bluetooth source devices can be remembered by the D-M41S, so family members as well as friends can enjoy their favorite tracks. However, only one device can be used at a time.
Note: The unit does not support Bluetooth hands-free communication for phone calls.

Optical Digital Inputs: The Denon D-M41S features two optical (toslink) digital inputs for connection of your TV, satellite/cable box, or Blu-ray/DVD player. The digital input will only accept a 2ch PCM signal (32-192kHz; 16/24-bit). The optical digital inputs are not compatible with Dolby Digital/DTS.

Analog Stereo RCA Input: The Denon D-M41S is equipped with a set of rear-panel RCA stereo audio inputs for connecting an external home component audio source.

AM/FM Tuner: The D-M41S features a built-in AM/FM tuner and comes supplied with an FM wire antenna and AM loop antenna. The built-in AM/FM tuner supports up to 40 station presets in any combination. You can manually tune your presets or have the unit automatically select your presets using the area's strongest stations. You can label each preset station with an 8 character name.

Q
Can I play TV audio through this unit ?
george  Dec 09, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings George. Thank you for your question. This Denon has Optical in, RCA audio in, and Bluetooth. If your TV can send audio out any one of those 3 options, this can play your TV audio.

Q
Could I adjust the bass and treble like I could with older Denon stereos? I have an older one with a remote, and on it it has a "tone/SDB" button. Does this have something similar.
dirksen  Oct 30, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings BB. Thank you for your question. Yes it has the tone controls and they are on the remote control SDB Tone button.

Q
Can I connect my Onkyo C-7030 CD player to this system?
spero  Jul 21, 2023
1 answer
A
You can, Spero! The Denon D-M41 CD/FM micro desktop system does have one analog RCA in that can be used for your Onkyo C-7030. You can also play disks with the built-in CD player on the Denon!

Q
Can I plug my old iPod (not BT, 3.5 Jack) with 128GB of music into this unit? I'm thinking no.
chester  Jun 28, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Steve, and thank you for your question. Yes you can, only the Denon has RCA as the input, so you would need a 3.5mm to RCA adapter cable.

Q
What cable is needed to connect a Polk Audio PSW10 to this system?
robert  May 01, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Robert, and thank you for your question. The best option is a mono subwoofer cable, and use either of the left, or right RCA inputs for that Polk PSW10. https://www.crutchfield.com/g_20111/Subwoofer-Cables.html?tp=2586&o=p

Q
Do I need to buy any antennas or cables to make this product work?
daniel  Mar 04, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Daniel, and thank you for your question. The Denon DM41 shelf system comes with an AM antenna, FM antenna, and two 6.5 feet of speaker wire for the speakers. It has everything to get it up and running. If you needed longer speaker wire, its just normal everyday speaker wire.

Q
Can I add KEF 150 speakers to the D-M41 system? Will that increase the size of the area this system can sound good in? Also what subwoofer will work well?
diana  Mar 01, 2023
1 answer
A
This Denon D-M41 CD/FM micro desktop system is not designed to drive multiple speakers, Diana. IF you would like to add KEF 150's (or use 4 speakers total) you will want to select the Denon CEOL RCD-N10 in the link below as it is capable of driving four 8-ohm speakers. This would work fantastic with the KEF's, or any other four 8-ohm speakers! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_033RCDN10B/Denon-CEOL-RCD-N10.html

How large or small of an area does this system require to put out good sound? Just a little concerned about the 30 filling the area that I bought it for with full sounding music.
diana  Feb 24, 2023

A
Greetings Diana, and thank you for your question. Everyone is different, this may be enough for you, but not for another. Its a small shelf type system, and should perform well at a moderate volume levels. I might use this in a bedroom, but not a larger area.

A
This Denon system is typically best for a small/medium sized space perhaps 15x15 but there are a lot of other factors that can play into how well these speakers can perform in a room. We have experts available that can help determine if this system would be a good match for set up. You can give us a call at 800.324.9695 and we will get you taken care of!

Q
This may be an ignorant question...new to bluetooth, here...Can I stream SiriusXM from my PC to the D-M41, using bluetooth, or possibly a cable connection, if necessary?
ron  Jan 25, 2023
3 answers
A
I've only streamed fm radio and YouTube video music from my phone. I would guess that a PC with Bluetooth connectivity could be played over the Denon system. Unit has optical 1 and 2 in and analog in as far as cable connectivity.
kent  Jan 25, 2023
A
I do not subscribe to SiriusXM, but I am able to use my mobile phone to listen by Bluetooth to streaming audio, streaming radio, etc. So I see no reason why SiriusXM would not be able to be heard on the Denon D-M41 through Bluetooth.
neal  Jan 25, 2023
A
If your computer will transmit audio via Bluetooth, then you will be able to.

No. This does not have USB connectivity.

Q
how many equalizer settings?
carli  Mar 02, 2022
1 answer
A
The D-M41 does not have an equalizer per se, nor does it have equalizer presets that some 1990s-style minisystems have ("jazz", "pop", "classical", etc.). It does have settings to increase/decrease treble, increase/decrease bass, and adjust L-R balance. These are accessible with the remote control. My 2¢ is that the system doesn't actually need these settings. It is good enough that the default settings are appropriate for most music. (I have owned other, cheap-and-cheerful systems where equalizer presets were a sometimes-useful crutch that partially made up for the shortcomings of the speakers.) The D-M41 isn't going to match a fully fledged component system, but it will comfortably outperform cheaper and smaller systems. You get what you pay for in that regard . . . . Unfortunately, I can't recommend the D-M41 because the CD player on mine has started to die after less than 14 months of use and less than two months out of warranty - extremely disappointing. I also own a Denon RCD-M37 (one of the D-M41's predecessors), and it is still going strong after 13 years. Either I am really unlucky with this unit or, like seemingly every other business, Denon started to skimp on quality and hoped we wouldn't notice.
christopher  Mar 03, 2022
Q
I've yet to see this answered anywhere. Will wireless headsets work on this system?
josh  Feb 22, 2022
1 answer
A
Pretty sure no if you mean Bluetooth phones. If you mean the sort that have the dongle that plugs into the headphone hack that should work fine.
william  Feb 22, 2022
Q
can you connect two more additional speakers for a total of four speakers?
linda  Nov 01, 2021
2 answers
A
There is only a single pair of left / right connections on the back, plus an output for a subwoofer. Connecting a second pair of speakers would require some deft physical connections of the wires themselves, while observing the amplifier's load requirement of 6-16 ohms. If you are not familiar with parallel vs. series wiring, I would not recommend hooking up a second pair of speakers, as you could easily create a 4 or even a 2 ohm load at the amp, which may appear electrically as more of a short than a set of speakers. No bueno.
donald  Nov 03, 2021
A
No only has 2 speakers system.
mark  Nov 01, 2021
Q
How rich/ deep is the base sound?
amy  Jul 17, 2021
7 answers
A
Very good, considering the size of the speakers. It won't give you house music thump or the lowest of the low end, but it will provide that deep portion of the music that the artist and producer labored to give you in the first place. Put it like this, when it comes to bass reproduction, I'll take the Denon D-M41 over my Bose Wave machine any day.
donald  Jul 19, 2021
A
I find the base sound to be very satisfying and deep. Much better than the sound systems we've had before.
nancy  Jul 18, 2021
A
Base is low and accurate. Moderately punchy but quick.
raymond  Jul 18, 2021
A
It is very pleasing to listen to. It is my office sound system, but a sub would be a nice addition.
richard  Jul 18, 2021
A
Not bad pretty good sound.
mark  Jul 18, 2021
A
Sounds pretty good for rock/pop as is without a subwoofer. I don't have a separate subwoofer. The speakers come with foam plugs for the speaker ports. Usually I have the foam plug in one speaker and out of the other. That's pretty good for just normal listening of pop/rock/disco/R&B. For a bit heavier bass response, just remove the plug from the other speaker. And of course, if you want REALLY punchy bass that you can feel, you may want to add a subwoofer.
brian  Jul 18, 2021
A
The bass is about what you'd expect from speakers this size - OK but not amazing. However, the speakers are well made enough that even at high volume high bass they don't shake and sound bad.
william  Jul 17, 2021
Q
I really like my bluetooth speaker. Does this player have a bluetooth transmitter I can use to connect to it?
jeff  Jun 01, 2021
2 answers
A
I was able to pair mine with a tablet but it cut out at times, I think it was the tablet. The instructions for paring are below. NOTE 0 To operate the Bluetooth device with the remote control of this unit, the Bluetooth device needs to support the AVRCP profile. 0 The remote control of this unit is not guaranteed to work with all Bluetooth devices. 0 Depending on the type of Bluetooth device, this unit outputs audio that is coupled to the volume setting on the Bluetooth device. Pairing with other Bluetooth devices Pair a Bluetooth device with this unit. 1 Activate the Bluetooth settings on your mobile device. 2 Press and hold Bluetooth for 3 seconds or longer. The device will go into the pairing mode. 3 Select this unit when its name appears in the list of devices displayed on the screen of the Bluetooth device. At the end of the pairing, the device name appears on the display of this unit. 0 This unit can be paired with a maximum of 8 Bluetooth devices. When a 9th Bluetooth device is paired, it will be registered in place of the oldest registered device. 0 Enter "0000" when the password is requested on the screen of the Bluetooth device. I hope this works for you, good luck

No, it does not.

Q
Does this receiver have a low pass filter for the main speakers when a subwoofer is connected? Or will the speakers always get the full range frequency response? I'm looking for an desktop sized amp/receiver that has a crossover for a 2.1 setup
alexander  Apr 19, 2021
1 answer
A
You can connect a subwoofer (subwoofer out), but I don't know about the "low pass filter." I only have the 2 speakers connected. Maybe the Crutchfield folks can provide more information.

When the unit is turned off, you can choose to display the clock or not via device settings.
joseph  Aug 15, 2020
A
It is settable. There is setup menu where you can set up whether the display goes dark or shows the clock when the unit is not playing. I normally set it to go dark because I have other clocks in the room. But I just tried it and verified that it works either way. And if you have it set to go dark, you can push "clock" on the remote to display the time for about five seconds.
stanley  Aug 14, 2020

No the display is dark when the unit is off
gary  Aug 13, 2020

Can I ran a turn table off of this system?
david  Nov 09, 2019

The unit has an Analog Input. If you have a turntable with built-in preamp, you can plug it in directly. If your turntable has a low level output, like magnetic phono, you need a phono preamp between the turntable and the mini system. Rolls makes such a unit. There are many others.

I have in wall Klipsch speakers with specs that read 100 watts recommended power. Will this 30 watt x 2 be enough to power these speakers? If not, is there a more powerful micro-system? Thanks.

A turntable can be added. I have one added to miy Denon. However, it is true you will want to have a turntable model with a built in preamp.

Yes a phonograph can play through this Denon. BUT, some phonographs are just the turntable with a plug that puts out only the tiny electrical signal from the movement of the needle, and some phonographs have a pre-amp (pre-amplifier: an electronic circuit that increases the tiny signal from the phono needle to a usable signal for devices like this Denon). So you'll have to find out whether your turntable has an electronic circuit that amplifies the signal from the needle, or not. If not, then you can play through this Denon using one of the devices in the above link.

I should add that the turntable would then work well.

Turntables need a pre-amp to work correctly. Pre-amps strengthen the signal from the turntable. The old systems that had a phono input had built in pre-amps. This unit does not, nor do most new electronics because of the low popularity of turntables. Some new turntables now have pre-amps built in. I yours does not, then you need to buy a separate one and connect it to the turntable and to the sysem. It is just a smallish box. Should be readily available.

Haven't set up am yet. But the CD player and speakers are crystal clear and more than loud enough if you want to jam.

Q
Can I connect a turntable to this system?

A
The Denon does offer an analog audio input but does not have a built-in Phono pre-amp. So, you can connect a turntable that features a built-in pre-amp or, you can add an external one: https://www.crutchfield.com/g_50500/Phono-Preamps.html?tp=204
