Features

Dynamic Balance Drivers: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion. Using just the right materials enables Polk to eliminate issues that reduce speaker performance and tune out performance-robbing resonances before they occur. Dynamic Balance ensures a rich, clean, full-range sound no matter what you're listening to. The Polk Signature S60 floor-standing loudspeaker incorporates a Dynamic Balance two-way driver array with one 1" tweeter and three 6.5" woofers.

  • Hi-Res 1" Terylene Tweeter: The Signature S60 floor-standing loudspeaker utilizes Polk's newly designed 1" Terylene tweeter to deliver clear and detailed high-end response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments. It will support high frequencies up to 40kHz to perfectly reproduce the latest high-resolution audio files with improved audio extension, earning Hi-Res Audio Certification.
  • Three 6.5" Mica-Reinforced Polypropylene Woofers: The Signature S60 floor-standing speaker employs three 6.5" Dynamic Balance low distortion mica-reinforced polypropylene cone woofers for clean, clear bass, better linearity, and increased dynamic midrange and midbass. This mica-reinforced polypropylene woofers feature butyl rubber surrounds, massive ceramic motor structures, and high-temperature Conex fiber spiders that combine to create drivers of exceptionally high efficiency, for clean, clear bass, better linearity, lower distortion, and greater durability.

Power Port Technology: The Signature S60 floor-standing incorporates Polk's Power Port technology with a specially designed down-firing port. Power Port technology smoothly transition air flow from inside the speaker into your listening area for deep, extended bass impact while minimizing turbulence and distortion. Polk's patented Power Port technology delivers 3dB more bass response than a traditional ported speaker. Because the port is located on the bottom of the floor-standing speaker, its not necessary to position to the loudspeaker a certain amount of feet from wall - giving you greater placement flexibility.

Non-Resonant Enclosure: The floor-standing speaker's strong, rigid and acoustically inert enclosure reduces unwanted internal standing waves for less audible coloration. And non-resonant Meddite MDF construction, extra bracing, and a thick front baffle ensure a more lifelike sound. The enclosure's curved edges not only look cool, they reduce standing waves inside the cabinet for less audible coloration. The enclosure features a beautiful black washed walnut finish.

Anti-Diffraction Magnetic Grille: The Signature S60 includes an anti-diffraction magnetic grille for unaltered sound. The integrated magnets make it easy to attach and remove the grille from the floor-standing speaker.

Two-Way Crossover: The floor-standing speaker employs a high-performance two-way crossover array (2.5kHz) for seamless blending and optimum time alignment of the tweeter & woofers, creating a lifelike soundstage.

Dual 5-Way Binding Posts: The floor-standing loudspeaker has two sets of 5-way binding posts connected by jumpers. Using the dual 5-way binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers. The 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual). The speaker terminals are color coded for easy identification between positive (red) and negative (black).

Dual-Floor Compatible Feet: Customized for improved stability and bass coupling to the floor, the floor-standing loudspeaker's feet are designed for both carpet and hard floors. The feet come pre-installed and should not be removed.

Applications & Placement: The Signature S60 floor-standing speakers can be used as front and/or surround speakers in a home theater setup. They can also be used in a simple stereo application. If your AV receiver offers built-in bass management, the S60 should be set to "Large" for an unfiltered, full-range audio signal.

  • Placement for Front Speakers: As a pair of front speakers in a home theater or stereo setup, create an equilateral triangle between the speakers and the listening position - with the speakers placed as far apart from one another as the listeners are sitting from them.
  • Placement for Surround Speakers: As surround speakers, the S60 should be placed on a side wall slightly behind the listening position. If you cannot place the speakers on the side walls, position them on the rear wall just behind the listening area.

Signature Series: Polk designed its Signature Series of loudspeakers to bring a big surround sound and a live music experience into the comfort of your living room at an affordable price. Featuring Hi-Res certification with a new high-resolution Terylene tweeter, redesigned Dynamic Balance drivers, precision crossovers, an anti-diffraction magnetic grille, modern cabinet styling and exclusive Power Port bass enhancing technology, Polk's Signature series loudspeakers deliver crystal clear highs, detailed midrange, and deep bass; plus they look great in almost any decor. The Signature Series by Polk consists of two center-channel speakers, three bookshelf loudspeakers, and three tower speakers.

Note: You may also want to add one of Polk Audio's powered subwoofers (sold separately) for even more bass response.

Q
Are the S60's a significant upgrade from the RTi8's? Just looking at the polk offerings and these caught my eye.

A
I can't make a direct comparison because I have not had RTi* speakers. However, I can tell you I get very crisp sound and I am very pleased with the purchase. I almost exclusively listed to vinyl through them and the sound is spectacular....at a range of volumes.
william  Jan 12, 2022
A
Yes definitely i bought mine probably a year ago now. They are very clean and clear ive been doing car and home audio for 29 years now and would buy them again no questions asked
zane  Jan 11, 2022
A
I have never heard the RTi8's but I can tell you the S60's are tremendous speakers. I use them mostly as the fronts in my home theater and i don't even need a subwoofer with the downward firing woofers. When i do listen to music the highs are pinpoint and the lows are booming. You won't go wrong with these.
raul l  Jan 11, 2022
A
Not a fair comparison. RT18i is a MTM alignment whereas S60 is MT. Joe D'Appolito was responsible for MTM development (where tweeter is placed in between 2 mid-bas drivers). MTM seems to have fallen out of favor with many new designers. You'll have to do some research on differences between both. For a 'significant' Polk upgrade, move up to the Legends.always buy more speaker than you can afford, as it is more important than the electronics.
david  Jan 11, 2022
A
Not sure about rti8 but I do have four s60s they where ok for the price but they are all used as surrounds now. I was not at all satisfied with s60s as mains so I bought the r700s plenty good enough I dont think I will ever upgrade the r700 plenty good but s60 just ok enough for my surrounds

Q
I just got the denon dra 800h2 is this a good speaker for this ?
john  Oct 13, 2021
1 answer
A
'Good' is a subjective word. No one, other than yourself, can answer that question. What might sound 'good' to me might not sound 'good' to you. The online retail trade has done a disservice to the audio industry, in that most prospective buyers have to listen with their eyes and rely on the opinions of others. Polk rates the S60 input power 20-300 watts. Denon DRA800H is rated at 100 watts so adequate but a tad on the low side output wattage wise if you are a high-volume level listener. This is an amplifier constraint, fairly typical of all receivers. S60 nominal impedance is 8-ohms, so an easy load for a typical 6-8 ohm receiver The S60 was purchased for a friend who has a legacy Pioneer 100 watt surround receiver (so old, it does not have HDMI inputs). At normal listening levels, it sounds pretty good in his living room.

I am considering the S60s to be paired with a Marantz SR5015, would they be a good match? thanks.

They should work, without and problem. Theses speaker are a 8 ohm load at 90 db and can be easily driven by a descent cheap amp, so your will bring them to life !
rebelto  Jun 06, 2021
A
Yes. I have a pair of S60s paired with a Marantz SR5014 running now for almost a year and I really enjoy them for music, sports and movies. Polk S20s for rears, old Ts250c center and a SVS SB2000 sub. Ran the Audyssey EQ a few times and worked on placement and have a really enjoyable setup.

Q
Recently got the denon dp300 turntable (with an upgraded cartridge) and am looking for floor speakers and a receiver. My husband's pushing for the Polk S60 speakers and I just want to make sure they're great for vinyl. From various comments/reviews I've read it sounds like most folks use them for home theater set ups. Would you pair this speaker with the denon 300dp?

A
I originally purchased them for stereo hifi use and have integrated them into a dual use home theater and love them for both applications.
darren  Jun 08, 2021
A
I believe so. My S60s are part of my home theater but I chose them with as much 2 channel intent as theater. My turntable is a Fluance RT-85 and I'm very pleased with the sound. I use a pair of subwoofers but I'm sure that's down to preference and not a requirement, especially for vinyl. Mine are toed in just a bit as well to even out the tweeters. Happy listening.
austen  Jun 07, 2021

A speaker simply takes the electrical energy from a source, in your case a receiver, and turns it into mechanical energy (the cone moving in and out). The speaker is 'blind' as to the origin of the electrical energy, be it a phonograph cartridge (which itself is converting mechanical energy into electrical...just the opposite of a speaker), an FM broadcast via the receiver's tuner, a digital source (such as a CD, which would have to be converted to analog by your receiver)...All speakers 'color' the sound, in some way, as do the electronics. No one can tell you what sounds good to you, only you can. Problem with receivers in general is they don't like powering speakers with 4-ohm nominal impedance. That is not an issue with the S60's as they are nominally 8-ohms. Suffice to say that unless you want to get into a discussion about receiver amplifier clipping and distortion, just buy the S60's. Since you mention a turntable, I assume you are mainly interested in stereo and not surround. Why not skip the receiver and buy a integrated amplifier, or better, a separate preamplifier and power amplifier... just make sure the preamp section has a phono input, and be cognizant of whether your cartridge is MM or MC. You really should have at least a 120 watts power output for the S60's,200 would be better...under-powering can actually cause damage to a speaker.

The pair of floor standing S60 polk speakers work good for movies and even better for music whether it be vinyl or radio music. The sound is nice and clear and not distorted. Worth the purchase for the price!
jerry  Jun 06, 2021
A
Honestly they are really crisp when it comes to music so yes I would pair this set together. You can't go wrong with the price
josue  Jun 06, 2021
A
The Polk S60's are great not just for home theater but also straight up music. They are very clear and crisp. Bass is tight as well. I think it's a good fit for what you're doing. Also the price isn't bad for what they can do.

Q
i have avrx 1300w denon receiver with 80 watts per channel with 8 ohms . will this be enough to push a pair of s60 polk tower speaker?
danilo  May 05, 2021
2 answers
A
If you are using a couple subs and crossing over at 80 to 100 Hertz you will be ok unless you really want loud to the max and than you would be pushing too much as I tried 275 watts into each s60 but bottom out bad had to cross over at 120 Hertz I replaced my s60 mains with r700 for that kind off power I was using but 80 watt with pow ed red subs should be ok
thomas  Jan 11, 2022
A
S60 is 8-ohm nominal impedance with 90db sensitivity. An 80watt receiver will not provide the dynamics as would a higher wattage power amplifier. As long as you're listening at moderate levels, you should be ok. However, if you were to crank it up, the receiver might start to clip (distortion). If possible, get a friend to loan you a separate preamp & power amp of say 300watts if solid state, 75watts or so if tube. I think you would hear the difference. If not, then 80watts is fine.
david  May 05, 2021
Q
I have an ONKYO TX-NR696 7.2 A/V Receiver that claims 100 watts per channel with 8ohms. Will this be sufficient to push a pair of Polk S60?

A
Hi Randy, while I'm not familiar with Onkyo receivers, I don't think you'll have a problem. These speakers are awesome! I've had mine at reference level and there was no blaring or sibilance. I have mine bi-amped on a yamaha rx-A3070. I am contemplating a second set to put in the rear of the room. Happy Shopping!
ryan  Feb 06, 2021
A
Yes i'm certain it will. I am running the set along with a sub, and 2 wall speakers, and a wall mounted center speaker and they are awesome. Very stylish as well.
joe  Feb 04, 2021
A
I use a similar Onkyo receiver, maybe they can handle more but it's more than enough for me.
matthew  Feb 04, 2021
A
I am using a 100 watts per channel Denon receiver for the S60 speakers and it does a wonderful job. The speakers are rated for up to 300 watts, but the 100 watt receiver is loud and clear.
gregory k.  Feb 04, 2021
A
For light listening, yes. For room shaking home theater, it will be pushing the max
byron  Feb 04, 2021
A
Yes, they are true 90 db speakers. I love them, they are a gateway drug, they bring Adele to life.
rebelto  Feb 04, 2021
A
Yes Randy, the Polk S60's not only sound exceptional, but deliver clear, non-colored, fatigue free audio. I have a Yamaha RX A880 pushing 100 watts to the S60's now and liked them so much, I decided to bi-amp them, so glad I did. These Polk's are extremely efficient and sounded sweet on my old Denon 525r receiver as well. I was breaking them in before setting them up in the living room. Couldn't do better IMHO, from a man who's had a broad range of audio over the years, Bose, Klipsch, Infinity, JBL, the list goes on. But So Glad I Tried These, good hunting my friend!
blaine m.  Feb 04, 2021
A
Simple answer yes. Assuming you have a 20f by 15f by 15f room or smaller. Because you get 90db at 1 meter distance with these speakers. So 20 watts receiver in the average home will produce IMAX quality sound. 100watt would do about 108db ( 3db increase every doubling of watts) which is too loud for most homes and will damage your ears. So you could be 8 meters or ~20 feet from the speakers at 108db to hear IMAX range (80db average)
jeremy  Feb 04, 2021
A
My Polk S60s are powered in the stereo mode by a Sony STR-DA2ES which is also rated at 100 watts per channel at 8 ohms with no problem, so your Onkyo should be fine with the S60s.

Q
Can we get a definitive answer on video shielding? Answer below seems vague and product description does not mention with this model, but does on others. Mine will sit within 2 ft. of one edge of my huge plasma TV.
steven  Jan 23, 2021
3 answers
A
You could have Googled this. No, only a cathode ray tube (CRT), which uses magnetism to control an electron beam that is 'scanning' an image line by line, is affected by un-shielded speakers.
david  Jan 23, 2021
A
You don't have to worry about shielding anymore. With plasma , led , lcd, oled...etc... that was only for tube TV's. Hope this helps.
charles  Jan 23, 2021

My speakers sit within 2 ft of a 75 inch tv and i have had 0 issues for two years.

Q
can you remove the feet and lay them on there side?
johnathan  Jan 29, 2018
2 answers
A
Although theoretically it is possible to do, I would advise against it since it would interfere with bass response as well as degrading stereo imaging.
robert  Jan 30, 2018
A
They certainly aren't designed to be used that way but I would imagine that the feet are just screwed in which would probably allow that to happen. Go up to your local Best Buy and see if you look at the bottom of one. If you see screws then you can probably remove them. Hope this helps.

Subwoofer to use with the Polk S60's. They show that they can go to 26hz and a lot of subs don't even go that low. What would be a good compliment subwoofer?

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best sub I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the sub models and help you make the best choice for your system.
