About the Kicker CompR 43CWR84

Bob Bihlmayer

Overbuilt? More like built just right

Kicker designed their CompR subs for people who love to hear strong bass in their music. The CompR 43CWR84 8” subwoofer comes equipped with a tough, polypropylene cone that stays rigid during intense play sessions so you hear accurate bass. A custom-designed back and top plate give the woofer plenty of room to travel, while the durable rubber surround helps to control cone movement during a heavy workout. This sub uses extensive venting in its heavy steel basket to shrug off heat, so you can count on reliable performance.

Features

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4Ω voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Sealed Enclosures: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures from 0.4 ft³ to 1.0 ft³.

Vented Enclosures: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Kicker recommends ported enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.8 ft³ with an 8" x 1.5" x 20-3/4" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.2 ft³ with an 8" x 2" x 19-1/8" slot port

Note: Although smaller than optimal, the prefabricated enclosures we list on the accessory page produce very good results.

I have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson Limited with the Infiniti surround. It's a good system but lacking in low end. I was curious if this sub would be a good replacement for the 8in. sub already in place? Also I can't find if the stock sub is 2 or 4 ohm.

Q
Will this be a plug and play for my 2018 toyota Platinum with OEM JBL. Maybe wired in parallel?

I am not sure about a 2018 toyota. I have a 2008 with OEM JBL and the Kicker subwoofer was not a direct replacement because the factory amp in my system was not powerful enough to get that rich bass tone I was looking for. In fact, I found no direct replacement and ended replacing the JBL system entirely....yep, the receiver, speakers, subwoofer and amplifier.

I have a 2011 toyota Sequoia with the jbl and I want to upgrade my factory sub which sub should I use ?

At the time I am posting this reply, we do not have a subwoofer that will fit the stock location and work with the stock amp. We do have subwoofers that can fit but will need a new amp installed to power them. If this is something you are willing to do, then I recommend contacting an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation

I have a 2014 Jeep Compass with the Boston Acoustics system with subwoofer. How can I tell if the subwoofer is a 4ohm or a 2ohm speaker ?

We've researched it and found that the stock sub is a DVC 2 ohm one My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

Put a volt meter(set to ohms) to the speaker terminals. Its never exactly 2 or 4 or 8 ohms but pretty close unless its totally blown. Dont touch the cone as your doing the test, any movement of the speaker throws off the reading and make sure no wires are attached.

Q
Will this fit as a replacement for a subwoofer in 2008 jeep wrangler x ?

A
Sorry, no. We found the Kicker to be too deep for the available mounting space in the stock subwoofer location. You will find all of the models we do recommend to fit by using the "Find What Fits" application on our website here: https://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx?lp=%2fCar%2foutfitmycar%2fmycar.aspx Keep in mind; most any aftermarket sub will also need an aftermarket amp to power it properly. For additional assistance and personalized recommendations, feel free to contact us directly by phone or through our online chat service: https://www.crutchfield.com/support/ContactUs.aspx

I went with a low wattage amp..to me when you have a quality low wattage amp it allows you to put out more volume without compromising the quality of the sound. Those subs are great..mines are still bangin.
patrick  Oct 30, 2017
A
It would depends I if the amp would be used to power other speakers. I'm runninng a sounds stream 5 channel for four mid and high, plus powering one sub. The 8 inch competition sub demands power, I can only imagine what two sounds like.

Can this be bottom mounted?

Yes, the Kicker CompR 43CWR84 can be either top or bottom mounted depending on what works best for your vehicle/application. If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
