So here's something completely new from Bose®. We weren't even sure how to classify the SoundWear™ Companion® Speaker on our website. Take a look — would you call it a portable Bluetooth® speaker? A set of headphones? It's really kind of both and neither. But when I took this cutting-edge wearable speaker home to try, the whole family agreed that you can call it "really convenient."
A portable, personal listening "space"
This lightweight neckband speaker rests comfortably on your shoulders. Music and other audio content plays wirelessly from your phone via Bluetooth. Bose's processing manages to deliver nice, full sound within a small "halo" around your head — without playing at a volume that disturbs others.
While I washed dishes or did other chores, I enjoyed my favourite football podcasts. And the heated sports talk never blared so loudly that it bothered my family. Headphones tend to put up a "stay away" barrier, but the SoundWear™ never did. If someone wanted to talk to me, it was easy for them to do so.
My wife Meghan's take:
"I'll admit, at first I didn't know what to think. 'It goes on your neck? And you walk around with it? Really?' But when Jeff brought it home, we both put it right to use — and used it often.
"It really came in handy while I was checking work email or cooking dinner. I could put on background music, but unlike with headphones, I could also keep tabs on the kids in the next room. We have a two- and five-year-old, and low-key friendly playtime together can escalate into something else, really quick. So I have to stay aware.
"I thought it was more convenient than carrying around a speaker. As long as I had my phone, the music followed me. And the neckband is so light and comfortable, that you barely notice it after a while. In fact, I got home late from work one night, and heard the kids laughing. Jeff was chasing them around, trying to get them in bed, and he had the SoundWear speaker around his neck, powered off — he totally forgot he was wearing it!"

Easy to wear
It's no accident that the SoundWear speaker feels so natural and comfortable. Bose's ergonomic design is modelled after the human spine, so it's firm, but flexible. It moves with you fluidly whenever you reach up, bend down, or walk around. The silicone lining feels pleasant, and Bose includes a cloth cover for an even softer touch.
Crisp sounding phone calls
If someone calls while you're listening to music, the SoundWear speaker vibrates. It functions as a "speakerphone," but sounds much clearer than that term might imply. I usually think of speakerphones as those muffled old boxes that sit in the middle of boardrooms — the SoundWear is anything but.
Voices sounded completely natural on my end. And when I talked to my wife through the built-in mic, she told me it sounded better than the receiver on my smartphone.

The SoundWear Companion speaker offers wearable convenience, wireless Bluetooth connectivity and great sound in a way that allows you to be present with your music as well as your surroundings.
Upward-Facing Drivers w/ Waveguide Technology: Every part of the Bose SoundWear Companion speaker is meticulously engineered for better sound. Upward-facing speakers, pointed precisely toward your ears, maximize what you hear while minimizing it for others. These two drivers push air through two flexible 11" waveguides in the neckband to ports on opposite ends for deep, rich sound all around you.
Comfortable Neckband: The Bose SoundWear Companion speaker is made from materials engineered to be comfortable & lightweight for all-day wearability. The SoundWear Companion speaker is also adjustable to conform to your neck for a comfortable fit. It uses a bend-and-stay steel wire encased in medical-grade silicone that has just the right amount of low-spring torsion to stay form-fitted to your shoulders.
Sweat & Weather Resistant: The Bose SoundWear Companion speaker was subjected to rigorous product testing to ensure durability. It is sweat and water resistant (IPX4), so it can withstand a light splash of water. Do Not swim or shower with this speaker, and ever submerge the speaker in any pool of water.
Voice Guided Multi-Device Pairing: Voice prompts talk you through Bluetooth pairing, making it simple to wirelessly connect your Bluetooth-enabled source device to the Bose SoundWear Companion speaker. The SoundWear Companion speaker keeps track of the last eight devices to have paired with it, dropping the least recently used when a new one is paired. It even allows you to keep two Bluetooth source devices connected at once for easier switching between devices (however, it will only receive audio from one device at a time). The Bose SoundWear Companion speaker will automatically re-connect with an already paired Bluetooth source device when it is in wireless range (up to 30').
Wireless Music Streaming: Thanks to the support for Bluetooth A2DP & AVRCP, you can stream stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth source device to the Bose SoundWear Companion speaker. You also get basic playback controls like Volume Up/Down, Play/Pause, and Previous/Next Track from the SoundWear Companion speaker's top-panel buttons. The Bose SoundWear Companion speaker has a range of approximately 30', so you can enjoy your music without wires. If you are using a smartphone and a phone call comes in, your music will be interrupted until the phone call ends. Once the phone call ends, your music will automatically resume.
Hands-Free Speakerphone: The Bose SoundWear Companion speaker also features a built-in mic, so you can use the SoundWear Companion speaker as a speakerphone for your smartphone. The built-in mic will be used to carry on your side of the conversation, while the other party is heard through the SoundWear Companion's speakers. You can use the SoundWear Companion speaker's 3-button control to answer, end, and reject calls. The SoundWear Companion speaker notifies you of an incoming call by vibrating. The SoundWear Companion speaker can even access the voice dialing functions of your smartphone and audibly indentify incoming callers (when applicable).
Digital Voice Assistance: The SoundWear Companion speaker's built-in mic can even act as an extension of the microphone on your Apple iPhone 4S and newer or compatible Android smartphone, so you can access Siri & Android's digital voice assistant (like Google Now).
Bose Connect App: Control the SoundWear Companion speaker's Bluetooth connections and manage bass adjustments easily through the Bose Connect app (for Apple iOS 9.0+ and Android OS 5.0+) on your compatible Apple iOS or Android mobile device. The app also provides product tips and lets you personalize your settings.
Control Buttons: There are 3 control buttons on the right side of the speaker. The larger middle button is a multi-function button; it initiates play/pause and other track controls for music, answer/end calls, and your phone's virtual assistant (like Siri). The buttons on either side of the multi-function button are volume up/down buttons. There are also 2 control buttons on the left side of the speaker for power on/off and Bluetooth pairing.
Rechargeable Battery: The SoundWear Companion speaker is equipped with a built-in rechargeable battery that provides up to 12 hours of use. The battery can be charged using the speaker's microUSB port, the supplied USB cable, and a USB port on a computer or a wall charger (sold separately). Allow up to 3 hours for the speaker's battery to fully charge. A quick 15 minute charge powers the speaker for up to 2 hours. The speaker's battery indicators glow solid white, and a voice prompt announces the battery level.
- Auto-Off Timer: The auto-off timer conserves the battery when the speaker is not being used. The speaker switches off when audio has stopped and no buttons have been pressed for approximately 3 hours.
- Safety Protection Mode: When the speaker battery is depleted (0%), and remains unplugged for more than 90 days, it enters safety protection mode and is permanently disabled. If your speaker enters safety protection mode, contact Bose customer service.
Swappable Covers: The SoundWear Companion speaker includes an acoustically transparent Black cover. Other optional colors are available - including Heather Gray, Midnight Blue ,and Dark Plum (all sold separately from Bose).

Finally got to try a Bose product and now I know why they are highly rated! Incredible and they are comfortable on your neck. The app for this product was easy to install and use. I am definitely a repeat buyer.
