Bring on the power

The R-W10D4 can handle up to 750 watts RMS, so be sure to choose a suitable amplifier as these bass monsters definitely want lots of power. Its dual oversized 4-ohm voice coils offer wiring flexibility you'll appreciate as your system changes and grows, so you can always pull maximum power from your amp. It works well in sealed and ported enclosures so you can choose what kind of bass you want to hear and feel.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible.

Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine R-Series subwoofer has a parabolic, Kevlar reinforced pulp cone. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design. There is also an inverted polypropylene/mica/talc dust cap, which increases rigidity.

HAMRS: The woofer features a High Amplitude Multi Roll Surround (HAMRS), made of rubber, that allows a large linear excursion and greater SPL. The HAMRS design allows extreme excursions without sacrificing valuable cone area.

Progressive Spider: The progressive spider has reinforced layer tinsel leads to ensure reliable and consistent control of the tinsel leads and eliminate any mechanical noise or interference often seen in high excursion cone designs.

Compound Radius Curve Pole Geometry: Alpine's Patented Compound Radius Curve pole geometry ensures a symmetrical magnetic field, while optimizing flux density to reduce distortion and further improve power handling and output.

Oversized Voice Coil: The oversized (65mm), high-temperature, 4-layer dual voice coils increase the sub's power handling.

Dual Voice Coils: For system flexibility, the woofer has two 4Ω voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load; when wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals are all located on one side of the woofer. The terminals will accept bare wire up to 8 gauge, pin connectors, or single banana plugs.

Jumpers: Included with the woofer are two voice coil terminal jumpers. These jumpers allow you to easily wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 2Ω load) or series (for an 8Ω load).

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: The recommended sealed box volume ranges from 0.48 cubic feet to 0.93 cubic feet, with 0.58 cubic feet being the ideal size. (The volume in the manual is given as net, before accounting for the displacement of the subwoofer when installed.)

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume ranges from 1.03 cubic feet to 1.58 cubic feet. The ideal size is 1.3 cubic feet, using a slot port measuring 10" (Width) x 1" (Height) x 17" (Length). (The volume in the manual is given as net, before accounting for the displacement of the subwoofer and slot port.)

Q
How do you wire this sub at 2 or 4 ohm? Apline r 10d4
chris  Jan 10, 2021

A
Cannot be wired to 2 ohms, only 4 or 1. Can YouTube tutorial videos for easy guides on how to wire.
tyler  Jan 10, 2021
A
There are two ways you can wire this sub, parallel or series. when wired in a parallel configuration, the sub would present a 2 ohm load to the amplifier. Parallel wiring: connect the amp + to + of first coil, - of first coil to + of second coil, and - of second coil to - of amp. when wired in a series configuration, the sub would present an 8 ohm load to the amplifier. wire amp + to + of first coil and amp - to - of first coil, connect second coil + to first coil + and second coil - to first coil -. The sub cannot be wired in to present a 4 ohm load - you would need the R-W10D2 wired in series to do this

What is the minimum distance from the back of the sub to the enclosure?

This subwoofer has a mounting depth of 5 7/8". You would want a bit of room behind the sub, so I would say a minimum of 6"

Q
For a single Alpine R-W10D4 R-Series 10" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils would the Alpine R-A75M R-Series mono subwoofer amplifier - 750 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms work or is that overkill? Is there another alpine amp that would work with lower watts?

Q
My existing box has a cutout of 9 5/8". Could I mount this sub in this box and be OK?
scott  Feb 27, 2019
1 answer
A
That Alpine requires a cutout of 9.102" and the frame of the subwoofer measures 10.72." It might be a little close but that should work OK.
