USA Spec BT45-TOY Add Bluetooth&reg; functionality to select Lexus, Scion, and Toyota vehicles

I have a 2008 lexus RX 350 with the navigation system, and want to use it only for my IPod which has bluetooth, and 30 pin connection. I previously had a 30 pin cord wired under the dash (IDK how), but the 30 pin no longer works and are no longer made. I was told this device would work. Reading the reviews, I do not want to lose the ability to use my Iphone for calls as reviews sound inconsistent in quality and reliability, so... Can I use my IPhone separately with the existing factory installed Bluetooth system and receive calls that way, and only use this device for my IPod? Can I charge the ipod separate from this device and have it still play music? also-will the music and playlists be displayed on the navigation screen?

Greetings Nathan. Sorry you are having troubles. I saw nothing mentioning any type of reset. The manual has a troubleshooting sheet. Paring problems will be as follows Delete/forget the BT45-TOY from your phones setting. Reset the phone and try pairing again. If its an Android phone make sure the "only visible to paired devices" is unchecked. Sometimes it can take 30 seconds for the BT 45 to be detected by your phone. Will this work on my 1994 MR2?

I would be happy to try and help Kim, but there are some variables I cannot confirm from here. Your 2008 Lexus RX 350 did not come with factory Bluetooth according to the information on my end. What I suspect is that the 32-pin mystery iPod connection is part of potentially a similar unit to the USA Spec BT45-TOY that was installed after purchase, though I sadly cannot confirm. Even so, the BT45 would not be able to switch back and forth between the two connections. Because the USA Spec BT45-TOY can only be paired and connected to one Bluetooth device at a time, you could connect with Bluetooth and charge your iPod separately, but you would need to choose either your pad OR phone to connect and could not easily switch between the two without re-pairing each device. No visual information would be displayed on the navigation screen. This would be a good solution if you do have an existing aftermarket Bluetooth module in place and it has failed! I have a 2006 Toyota tundra with stock radio CD player. It has no auxiliary button or CD changer select button. It has a place to plug it in in the back, but how would I select it for streaming Bluetooth?

This USA Spec BT45-TOY works well in your 2004 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Isaac, but you will lose some source functionality to be able to select the new Bluetooth connection. Depending on your settings on the USA Spec BT45 per the instructions for your specific original radio, you will either select SAT/XM as the source or the CDC,CDC1,MP3,or DVD source (depending on your original radio). This means your XM or CD changer (if equipped) would be lost in favor of the Bluetooth adapter. I hope this helps you decide! I have a 2005 Toyota Landcruiser, has the in dash nav and build in bluetooth for phone calls(but not media). How would this interact with the old system? My goal is high quality sound through a bluetooth connection.

When I receive an incoming call it does not register on the cars touch screen but only on the phone itself. Also when I accept the call on the phone it does not transfer through the unit. I have to hit the speaker button on my phone. What can I do to solve the problem?

Jeff, providing BT45-TOY is compatible with your Land Cruiser's factory radio, it will just be an auxiliary input over the provided split Y adapter to your system. If your vehicle has a rear entertainment system, ensure no additional cables are needed. Think about adding a device to your home theater receiver concept. On my particular vehicle, I will hit the CD button twice revealing CD1 and this becomes my audio source into the factory unit from BT45. You may have similar process and will not loose any current factory features. Since your phone is pared with the BT45, it will automatically switch to it's input when receiving or making calls and you are able to use your steering wheel controls to answer or hang up. Voice and audio from your mobile is high fidelity in my application as the microphone is positioned above the rear view mirror and I found an electronically active single USB cable allowing power to two out puts as BT45 only has one USB power out. I do not user the AUX jack on device but I am sure it would also produce high fidelity audio. Review all the YouTube install videos as it help me tremendously and take your time, it is an amazing product. USA Spec is also helpful for support. - Terry

Mine is installed in with the factory radio/sound system my 2010 Toyota RAV4. It is the V6 model with premium sound system (JBL). Works really well coming in on the Disc-Aux input and sounds very good!

Does the bluetooth disconnect and reconnect often and at random?

Calls have so far worked perfectly with this unit connected to my 2006 Toyota Avalon. Though I will say that call or even music information displays only partially to the point where it's so truncated that it's not useful. Still, calls have always worked quite well for me using their included mic. I would advise giving USA Spec's tech support department a call at six-two-six, three-three-six, three-eight-three-six, Mon-Fri: 9am-5pm PST.

Since you are unable to hear phone audio on your car speakers it appears there may be an error or omission in the wire connections or the Bluetooth pairing. Follow the BT45-TOY instructions for guidance on both. Also, it is important to understand this device is a Bluetooth interface to your phone, it does not interface to the computer(s) in your car. Think of this device as a fancy Bluetooth headset. When it works you will be able to speak to and through your phone (via the supplied add-on microphone) and hear phone audio (including audio streaming) via your car speakers. You will also be able to pickup an incoming call and hangup a call in progress. No other functionality is supported.

Hi, I bought this for my 2006 Toyota Sequoia. When I start the car, provided that blue tooth is turned on my phone and the Radio is on, I will hear the BT45 announce....'Connected' through the radio speakers. On an incoming call, I will hear the ringing through the radio speakers and the radio automatically switches from FM (which I normally listen to) to CD, which is the input that the BT45 uses. I then push the 'up channel select' on my steering wheel to answer the call and I can talk through the installed external microphone and listen to the audio through my radio speakers. To end the call I select 'down on the channel select'. The only issue I run into is that the output of the BT45 requires the I have to listen to the radio louder than I normally would otherwise I do not hear the incoming call. I would normally have my volume around 20 and to use the phone, I have to have it around 30-34 just to give you a reference of how much louder I have to turn it up. Hope this helps.

Is there static or background noise coming through the car speakers when using this via bluetooth? I'm having this problem with the less expensive BTS-TY1 bluetooth device designed to fit my car.

We have never had that happen, the connection has always been very solid and steady.

No, I have an OEM Pioneer HUD on my SCION TC 2008 (premium radio). Aside from low volume BT and very low call volume I don't experience any quality issues.

I never had any issue with audio like music, however the quality was not as good when making calls. At times it was difficult for the person on the other line to hear me clearly. I was told I sounded muffled. Hope that helps.

How do I use Siri with this device?

On my 2005 Tacoma, the device works on all speakers and can accept multiple phones, however, sometimes I have to turn one phone's bluetooth off to allow the other to connect. The device uses the CD Changer input into the factory radio unit. My vehicle does not have a CD changer but the factory unit had such an input. so it was just a matter of plugging it into the existing harness. The treatment of incoming calls happens seamlessly as the unit automatically switchs the radio from whatever input it was using to CD2. I'm very happy with the investment in the BT45-Toy.

Yes. It plays on all speakers as does the factory system. Mine is installed in a 2006 Lexus. The only problem I have is that I want to use the Lexus Bluetooth phone system and the Bluetooth BT45-TOY for music. It is very cumbersome to do this. If you are going to use the BT45-TOY for both it should work well. Hope this helps.

I purchased for a JBL equipped Tacoma. It added Bluetooth capability to the stereo, so it was heard throughout the entire system. It only connects to one phone at a time and cannot be split (like newer vehicles.allow for audio from one phone and calls from another simultaneously) but any phone can hookup as long as the code is known or the device is saved to the phone. Example, my phone connected automatically so when my son would come along, I would turn off Bluetooth on my phone so that he could connect. The biggest con, to me, was how loud the voice made announcements ("Connected" or "Incoming Call From...") It was the worst! So loud and no settings to adjust. So if you had radio turned up listening to a station and a call came in, 10x louder you heard, "Incoming call from...".

My 2004 4Runner has the 6-CD changer. Will I still be able to play CDs?

I ordered the USA Spec BT-TOY and received it this week. I also ordered the USA Spec BT-TOYR and began the installation today in my 2004 4Runner SE. The additional USA Spec BT-TOYR wiring for the rear entertainment system (RES) is necessary. You cannot complete the installation without it because the large connector on the back of the 6-CD In Dash JBL radio doesn't fit the BT-45 TOY standard jack. The OEM plug on the radio is kept and the USA Spec BT-TOYR special wiring is used for one of the other 2 connections on the back of the radio. I'm glad I ordered the extra wiring and I'm pleased with the USA Spec BT-TOY's performance, especially the Bluetooth. It's the best my radio has ever sounded.

Does the USA Spec BT45-TOY adapter have all the features the manual says it will have so my iPhone XR can stream music, charge my phone and make calls? In recent events I had a different car, and I had a Kenwood DPX03BT, and it would charge my iPhone SE, stream music, and make phone calls at the same time. When I upgraded to the iPhone XR, the Kenwood DPX503BT never recognized my iPhone XR. So, my question is: can it charge my iPhone XR, stream music from my phone, and make phone calls simultaneously with this adapter? Also, this next question may be kind of obvious, but will the USA Spec Lexus Adapter work with my 2002 Lexus RX300?

Yes Rich, the CD-player works as it normally would. The BT-45 is great...ez installation and works like a factory option. You will not be disappointed!

Short answer is yes. If I recall correctly, there is a switch on the bt45-toy that allows you to select the channel you want it to come through. My car has satellite radio that I never use so I set it up on that channel and didnt use the CD player channel. If that isnt an option for you and you set it the CD player, I think all CD's must be removed so the music doesnt play together. But you can still use the CD player, just dont turn on music from a bluetooth source that's paired to the bt45-toy.

I have this unit installed in a 2004 Lexus GX470, which is built on the 4Runner platform. The CD changer still works and shows up as CD2. The BT45-TOY shows up as a CD1. Tap Disk button on the audio controls to select CD1or CD2.

Yes, the bluetooth will work thru the CD. It won't interfere with the CD changer. Just remember to adjust the volume when using the bluetooth.

I have noticed that the manufacturer's warranty only covers units sold from "authorized dealers." Is crutchfield an "authorized dealer" of this product? Or is the warranty assured through crutchfield?

The USB port on this adapter is for charging only, it will allow streaming and hands free calling as well. This adapter will work in your vehicle, but will replace the OEM CD changer.

On our Lexus we could plug it into any channel (we chose CD, since we didn't have a SAT option & our CD player broke long ago). It doesn't show song data but may on a newer audio system. Bluetooth works great, the hardest part was prying the dash apart to remove the radio & plug the BT45-TOY into the back (instead of hiding it we removed part of the old ashtray & it sits in that space.)

Not the exact answer you're looking for but ... in a 2007 RX350, I believe you can program it to use any channel you wish. I don't believe that the song data changed from the vehicle's default display. In other words, I don't believe this unit alters your existing display settings.

I installed mine in a 2006 Lexus it operates through the SAT option. Mine displays the artist name and song title when used with my samsung galaxy. additionally I can change songs on the steering wheel control. you should be very pleased

For a 2005 Land Cruiser, I do not know. I have it installed on a 2008 Sequoia and it does Song Title and Artist when you flip to text from the SAT station screen.

Yes, however don't count on the device working after 6 months. I've gone through two BT45-Toy devices. Both professionally installed. With each I eventually lost am-fm radio and the bluetooth didn't always work and when they did they crackled with distortion. The vendor will not refund however they'll send you another device that I assume is rebuilt.

Im currently using an FM Bluetooth transmitter to stream audio on my Lexus IS250. While sound is ok is not the best. Very muffled audio and at times distorted. Will this device give me better sound or will it be just as equivalent as a transmitter?

Adam, no it will not interfere with anything. The steering wheel controls still work. I put this in my 2005 Avalon Limited with navigation. It plugs into the satellite (SAT) plug in the back of radio. It is then controlled as SAT on the mode.

I did think the sound was better, yes. FM transmitters are not good. I've used them many times in the past and none of them seemed to have good sound. Hope this helps.

The sound is perfect and exactly what you would be looking for. The only drawback we found on the unit is if your in the car and Bluetooth is connected and you are not using Bluetooth mode, say your on fm, anytime your phone makes a noise from a call or anything it automatically switches over to blue tooth. You essentially have to turn Bluetooth off on your phone if you want to be in the car and use fm or cd.

I've never used the plug in bluetooth transmitters so i can't speak on that, but in my 07 Tacoma I still have the USA Spec running and have had no issues, sound quality is still as good as factory. The ONLY issue I have is not being able to use my factory steering wheel controls. Other than that i'm satisfied.

I have on in my 2009 Toyota RAV4 with in dash navigation system and screen, audio is very good. Should be a great improvement over what you describe. The speaker phone though the car works very well also. Be aware, installation might be best left to a professional, unless you are really good with tools and such.

Sounds much better as far as a good bluetooth connection allows, no hiss, will loose the CD player - but who uses CD's anyways. Installed on my 2007 IS350, working great for 18 months no problems.

I'm looking to install this in my 1998 Toyota Celica. The factory unit stereo only has radio and a tape deck, so since I don't have an "Aux" or "Sat" source button to connect this adapter to, how do I "switch" to bluetooth audio?

It can work in the non-Nakamichi sound systems in a 2001 RX300 with a separate harness. The separate harness that is needed will vary depending on if you do or don't have the stock navigation. I have 2007 Sequoia with JBL navigation system. It has steering wheel controls. I added a siriusXM dock that uses antenna to play music (so I have to find open station on FM radio) and it has a rear seat DVD player (in the console). I never really use rear seat DVD player anymore so it can go. Will this still work?

Hi Josh , I was asked by Crutchfield to help answer your question as I purchased one of these units almost 2 years ago. While I am not certain about the compatibility to your specific car I can attest to the quality and performance of the unit itself.I installed the adapter myself on my 2007 Lexus GX470. The quality is evident and the instructions were very clear. Its plug and play. The unit syncs with my iphones very quickly and has worked perfectly since my install, again almost 2 years ago.I live in Rural Northern California and drive on very rough dirt and gravel roads daily, really some of the most punishing roads in the USA so the Bluetooth adapter has definitely passed the bounce and dust test !I believe that if you have a great sounding stock stereo system as I have (Mark Levinson premium system) and just need the option of bluetooth interface then this unit is the best option out there and Crutchfield is the best when it comes to customer satisfaction. i have a 2012 Camry Hyrbrid XLE with the premium JBL sound system. Recently the bluetooth has started to malfunction and I can't find anyplace that works on this specific Toyota unit. Will this USA Spec be a plug n play install? Would I be able to pair my phone to the USA Spec unit only and it would then handle all my hands free calling? Thanks

I don't know about the Sequoia, but it works great in my 2007 Lexus RX 350. All of my controls on the steering wheel work the same as before. The DIY installation was relatively simple. The hardest part is getting the flip switches on the back of the unit configured correctly. All of my music is on my phone, so it is the perfect match for me, no cables. Just make sure you get the correct unit for your vehicle.

It should be plug and play. When you connect it to your radio it should function off either the CD or the SAT option on your radio depending on how your set it up. Once connected you should be able to unpair from the car radio and pair to this unit. You will have to use the mic on this unit. It should take care of your hands free calling.

I put this unit in a 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser which already had hands-free phone but did not have music streaming capability. The original system still works in the new system installed can't be used for hands-free calling in music streaming. It has a proper wiring harness so it is a plug-and-play type thing but you probably will have to remove the radio to make the connection. I have been happy with this product.

Since your phone will connect EITHER to the head unit or to the BT-TOY at any given time, but NOT to both at the same time, what you are asking for is unlikely to work. This seems to be the nature of bluetooth implementation for sound capable devices

If you're looking for streaming only this might not be for you. As far as I know, as long as you're connected to this unit it will answer your phone when it rings. Perhaps you need a Bluetooth car kit for music only.

This was installed in a 2008 Lexus IS250. It connects to the phone through Bluetooth as there is no aux/USB. in the car. The USB included in this kit is for charging only.

I use mine mostly for Bluetooth (talking on the phone or streaming music). You can also use an aux cord to connect to things like the older iPods that don't have Bluetooth capability. I barely use the aux cord.

Mine is hidden behind the dash and runs solely off BT. The only problem is that it yells "connected" every time you turn on the car. Otherwise, it works flawlessly on my 2003 Land Cruiser (LX470) to add BT to the Mark Levinson NAV deck. It does not show song titles, phone numbers, etc.

Yes, it is a Bluetooth connection for a smartphone to stream music. My Land Cruiser already had Bluetooth for phone connectivity so I only use it to stream music. Both system still operate and you do not need to use the USB port.

You may use it just for bluetooth. It has three options (power, aux and bluetooth). But you can hook up any combination: all three, just two (power and bluetooth) or just one (bluetooth). I didn't want to keep opening the dash so I added the power line to charge the iPhone that was using the bluetooth and put the aux line into my glove compartment if a friend wanted to listen to something else.

In my Lexus LX470 I am able to use this for Bluetooth and Auxiliary; I just have to switch discs on my Lexus audio controls. If all I wanted was Bluetooth, it would work just fine. If all I wanted was AUX it would work just fine. The usb however is only for charging.

I have a hard-wired radio interface for my 2006 Toyota Tacoma which was configured with large and small Toyota bus connectors and the large 30-pin connector for my iPhone 4S. It has worked great for me. I upgraded my iPhone to an iPhone 5 SE which uses the smaller pin and the mini-jack connector for audio. I've examined your website but am unsure what would be the proper upgrade to replace my current configuration. Can you recommend replacements both hardwired and bluetooth? Michael

I currently have BT for phone only in my '09 Highlander. If I install this unit, will I still have to install the microphone that comes with it or will I be able to use the existing microphone in my factory stereo?
