JVC KW-V340BT DVD receiver

You can set the background you want on the big touchscreen display.

Adjust the visuals

JVC lets you pick from multiple backgrounds and user interfaces for this stereo's crystal-clear touchscreen display. You also get a variable brightness control with an auto dimmer, so you're not visible from space. And if you're having trouble with glare, you can adjust the display's viewing angle. The 6.2" inset screen shows off your videos when you're parked.

Wireless Bluetooth convenience

Bluetooth enables wireless streaming for music, podcasts, and audiobooks, along with the convenience of hands-free phone calls. This JVC lets you can quickly switch between two paired phones — handy for vehicles with more than one driver. And when you're streaming audio, JVC's Streaming DJ feature lets you pair five phones so everybody can pick their tunes for the ultimate road trip playlist. You can also control this car stereo directly from your iPhone® or Android™ phone using JVC's free Remote app.

Truly multi-media

iPhone and Android users, you can tap into Internet radio stations like Pandora®, iHeartRadio®, and Spotify for huge music libraries that can stream to this JVC. If you're looking for radio stations that won't fade away as you head out of town, add a SiriusXM tuner to this JVC to enjoy satellite radio's deep programming. The KW-V340BT also includes a sensitive AM/FM tuner to catch all your local stations too. You can plug your Android phone or iPhone into the rear-panel USB port, and control the music in your phone while you charge it. The port can also handle music stored on a thumb drive, including high-resolution FLAC music files. You can even go old school with those little shiny discs (CDs and DVDs) that used to be all the rage.

Refine that sound

And when you've got the music playing, you can tweak your sound by using a huge array of sound-sculpting controls, including a 13-band graphic equalizer and time alignment. To battle compressed audio, JVC's K2 technology helps bring back the depth and detail for all your digital music sources. Because most car speakers are located down low in the doors, this receiver also offers Sound Lift, which adjusts your music's frequencies to virtually "raise" your speakers for better, more natural imaging. If you want even more oomph from your music, JVC also include three sets of 4-volt preamp outputs to add an amplifier or a powered subwoofer.

iDatalink Maestro lets you keep your factory extras

The KW-V340BT offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included). In a wide selection of vehicles, this module lets you keep factory features that you'd otherwise lose when you install a new radio. You'll also be able to check out engine performance data and other vehicle info on the JVC's screen. Once you've identified your vehicle, you'll see the iDatalink module offered on the way to the Shopping Cart if it's compatible.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Smartphone note: If you're going to use your smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

El Kameleon Design: The KW-V340BT features JVC's El Kameleon "stealth" design which totally blacks out the 6.8" touchscreen and 6.2" inset video screen when the head unit is powered off or your vehicle is turned off; there is no backlit illumination at all when the receiver or vehicle is off. There is still a JVC and SiriusXM logo, plus the KW-V340BT's model number on the front-panel.

6.8" Touchscreen w/ 6.2" Inset Video Screen: The JVC KW-V340BT DVD receiver features a 6.8" touchscreen with an inset 6.2" video screen, while the most frequently used touchscreen buttons (Home Menu, Voice Dialing/Siri, & Volume Up/Down) are highlighted on the left side of the screen. There is only one physical push-button control on the KW-V340BT's front-panel, and that is the Power On/Off button. Electronic angle settings adjust the display for best off axis viewing (actual screen does not move).

    • Touchscreen & Gesture Control: In addition to basic touch control, the 6.8" touchscreen offers Gesture Control which let you operate certain functions of the head unit by making specific gesture commands on the unit's touchscreen. You can adjust the volume of the DVD receiver by making a circular motion with your finger on the unit's touchscreen. You'll also be able to navigate your music by simply swiping the touchscreen left/right or up/down.
    • Video Screen: The 6.2" video screen has a resolution of 800 (H) x 480 (V) x RGB with 1,152,000 total pixels. While watching a video, you can change the video screen's aspect ratio to Full (16:9), Just (4:3 LB), or Normal (4:3), or Auto (automatically selects to match incoming video signal). You can also adjust the video screen's display brightness, contrast, color, tint, sharpness, and black level to suit your viewing needs during video playback.
    • Custom Home Screen & Pop-up Short-Cut Menu: You can customize the head unit's Home Screen by rearranging and moving the four most used source icons to this screen. While displaying the source control screen, you can jump to another screen by touching the operation keys on the Pop-Up Short-Cut Menu.

Note: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire (attached to rear-chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork.

Display Settings: You can make the following adjustments to the head unit's touchscreen display to better fit your application and needs.

    • Custom Backgrounds & Variable Color Illumination: You can also choose between a variety of preset background images & designs for the touchscreen LCD or download your own still image (800 x 480) for use as the unit's background from a connected USB thumbdrive. The touchscreen panel's button illumination can also be changed to one of eight preset colors - blue, red, green, yellow, orange, purple, pink, or aqua. You can also choose to have the unit constantly scroll through all eight preset colors. In addition, you can create a custom color using a combination (0-31) of red, green, and blue.
    • Clock Display: The DVD receiver offers a 12-hour clock which is visible from any source or menu screen. With your vehicle's key in the accessory or start position, the head unit will continue to display the LCD background image, clock, and button illumination during "AV Off" mode. Pressing and holding the Power button turns the unit off completely.
    • Dimmer: When the illumination lead (orange/white) is connected and the dimmer set to Auto, the display will dim automatically when you turn on your vehicle's lights. The dimmer can also be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), or On (display is always dimmed).

Remote App (for iOS & Android): The JVC Remote App is an application for Apple iOS 8.0+ and Android OS 4.4+ that controls the JVC receiver like a wireless remote control from your compatible Apple iOS device (via Bluetooth or USB) or Android device (via Bluetooth only). The JVC Remote App provides traditional touchscreen control, as well as directional and freeform gesture control.

    • Source Information & Control: The JVC Remote App provides a Source Control screen with a list of the receiver's built-in sources and connected sources to choose from, so you can change the head unit's source from your mobile device. Once an input is selected, the app displays source information such as station number, track number & playback time, as well as song/artist information (when applicable). From the the app, you can also seek stations and tracks, as well as Play and Pause your music.
    • Audio Settings: From the application on your mobile device, you can adjust the receiver's volume up or down. In addition, audio settings such as EQ, Crossover, DTA, and other audio adjustments can be easily set using the JVC Remote Application.
    • Media Player: The application's Media Player screen lets you playback your device's stored music library through the JVC receiver. From the app on your Apple iOS or Android device, you can control basic playback functions like Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track and Repeat/Random. The Android version of the app even lets you browse your music library by category (Song/Album/Artist/Playlist/Mood). Song, artist, and album information (along with Album Art) will displayed on your Apple iOS or Android device's touchscreen.
    • App Launcher (Android only): The App Launcher feature of the Android version of the JVC Remote app lets you access 3rd party applications within the JVC Remote app's user interface. The App Launcher can contain up to 24 of your favorite apps for quick access.
    Notes:
    • You will need to indicate within the head unit's menu what type of device (Apple iOS or Android) you'll be using the JVC Remote App on before the application will connect and function with the receiver.
    • When using the JVC Remote App with your compatible Apple iOS device, the application and device must be connected to the receiver via Bluetooth (not USB) for playback of Bluetooth audio. For playback of a USB-direct connection from an Apple iOS device, the device and application must be connected to the head unit via USB (not Bluetooth).

Remote Control: The JVC KW-V340BT offers compatibility with factory steering wheel controls (adapter sold separately) and is compatible with JVC's IR wireless remote control (RM-RK258, sold separately) for added convenience.

    • Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).
    • Optional Remote Control: The JVC DVD receiver is compatible with JVC's wireless IR remote control (RM-RK258, sold separately).
    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The JVC KW-V340BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 3.0, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile) & PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) & AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC KW-V340BT. Check here for the latest Bluetooth compatibility information.

SSP & USB Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the JVC KW-V340BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. You can even pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5+) or Android smartphone (running JVC Music Play App) by simply connecting it to the JVC head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.

    • Dual Phone Connection: Thanks to the Dual Phone Connection feature, two Bluetooth-enabled phones can remain connected to the JVC receiver. This means you can an answer an incoming call from either phone from the head unit. Also, both of your phone's contact lists are downloaded to the receiver. To make a call from one of the phones using the JVC receiver, you simply have to select Phone 1 or Phone 2 on the head unit's front-panel.
    • Streaming DJ: The new Streaming DJ feature allows five Bluetooth audio source devices to be connected to the JVC receiver at one time, so you can switch between Bluetooth playback sources a lot easier and quicker. While "BT Audio" source is selected on the head unit, you can simply press the music playback button on your connected Bluetooth source devices to switch between devices and begin music playback. However, you cannot stream audio from two different Bluetooth audio source devices at the same time or combine music libraries or playlists from two different connected devices.
Note: You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the JVC head unit. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. And thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the KW-V340BT provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The controls of the KW-V340BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (with mounting bracket) featuring adjustable gain, so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering A Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's touchscreen controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call immediately or after 1-30 seconds. The KW-V340BT also supports the Call Waiting function, so you can answer another incoming call while suspending the current call you are on. Your compatible cell-phone must also support this feature.
    • Dialing A Number: Using the KW-V340BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Enter Phone #: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's front-panel rotary dial.
      • Preset Dialing: You can store up to 5 contacts in the memory of this unit for speed dialing.
      • Phone Book: You can download phone book data from your mobile phone to the DVD receiver. You can then dial a contact within the phonebook from the head unit's touchscreen controls. Your phonebook can be searched alphabetically or numerically.
      • Call History: The Call History is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 10 total).
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone once you have activated the voice dialing function from the head unit's front-panel.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The JVC KW-V340BT supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or audio player, plus song/artist information display. You are able to stream your stored music library on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, as well as music apps downloaded on your smartphone to the JVC KW-V340BT for playback.

    • SBC + AAC Codecs: In addition to support for the standard SBC Bluetooth audio codec, the KW-V340BT offers support of AAC.  By supporting AAC, the KW-V340BT offers better audio performance of the music streamed from your Apple iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
    • Advanced Music Browsing: In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the KW-V340BT lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4 phones only; which includes Android 4.0+ and iPhone 5.0+).
    • Song/Artist Information: The head unit will also display your stored music and music app's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (no album art) - not compatible with all apps.
Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired to an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth, the JVC KW-V340BT has the ability to access Siri through its touchscreen control and external microphone. Simply press the "phone command" button on the KW-V340BT to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the head unit and its microphone. You can even ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Bluetooth; the head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the KW-V340BT; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).
    Android & iPhone Integration

Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0) Connectivity:  The JVC KW-V340BT's rear-panel USB port lets you connect your AOA 2.0 compatible Android (OS 4.1-7.1.2) smartphone for music playback. JVC does not guarantee operation with all Android devices, regardless of operating system. Click here for the most current list of compatible Android smartphones. There are two Android AOA 2.0 modes to choose from based on what content you want to listen to and how you want to control it.

    • Auto Mode: The JVC KW-V340BT supports Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), which lets  you connect your Android  (OS 4.1-7.1.2) smartphone to the KW-V340BT's rear-panel USB port and listen to stored music and music apps from your Android device through the JVC head unit. You'll be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. Other advanced music navigation will still be done from your Android smartphone's touchscreen. In this mode, the head unit will not display song/artist information; only "Audio Mode" will show up on display. You'll continue to view song/artist information from the Android device's touchscreen. You'll also still be able to access other functions and applications from your Android smartphone's touchscreen, while listening to music through the head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
    • JVC Music Play App: Downloading the JVC Music Play app onto your Android (OS 4.1-7.1.2) smartphone not only allows you to listen to stored music from your Android device through the JVC DVD receiver connected via USB, but it also lets you browse your Android smartphone's music library from the head unit's touchscreen controls. You can browse your store music library by Playlist, Artist, Song, Album, or Genre. The contents of a Playlist or Category can be searched alphabetically or numerically. You can also control Play/Pause and Previous/Next track from the head unit. In addition, the head unit will display song/artist information. You can exit the JVC Music Play app to access other functions and applications of your Android smartphone, while your stored music library is still playing through your head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
Note: JVC does not guarantee operation with all Android devices.

iPhone Direct Connection: The JVC KW-V340BT's rear-panel USB port can be used to connect a Lightning-connector or 30-pin dock connector iPod/iPhone to the head unit (see chart below for compatibility). The KW-V340BT supports audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of your compatible Apple device. If you have a newer iPod/iPhone with the Lightning-connector, you can use JVC's Lightning connector-to-USB cable (105KSU62, sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the KW-V340BT. If you have an older iPod/iPhone with a 30-pin dock connector, you can will need to use the dock connector-to-USB cable that comes with your Apple device or a "Made For iPod/iPhone" 30-pin-to-USB cable (sold separately) to connect your iPod/iPhone to the KW-V340BT.

    • Head Unit Control: From the head unit's front-panel controls you can search for stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, and Composer. The contents of a Playlist or Category can be searched alphabetically or numerically. The KW-V340BT also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of stored music on your iPod/iPhone. In addition, you'll be able to control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) from stored music and select music apps streamed to your Apple iPod/iPhone. You can also choose to control your Apple device from its own touchscreen, instead of the head unit.
    • Song/Artist Info + Album Art: The KW-V340BT will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music information including Track number, Elapsed playing time, Song/Album title, Artist name, and Album art.

USB Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1.5A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone or Android smartphone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your iPod/iPhone or Android smartphone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

    • Vol Link EQ: The Vol Link EQ features boosts certain frequencies ranges that becomes hard to hear due to road noise.

Music Enhancement: You can restore the sound lost due to audio compression, as well as enhance the sound by virtually manipulating the soundscape.

The purple/white wire (attached to rear chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching. Automatic video switching takes approximately 0.8 seconds.
Note: The rear view camera feature is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

I believe it does; I think the input jack for the camera connection is on the rear of the unit. I installed it in an '02 Subaru WRX which doesn't have a backup camera. The Crutchfield page should have a link to download a .pdf of the installation manual.

Sadly, There isn't an 3.5mm AUX port on this deck. You have Bluetooth connection for phone and other mobile devices. The deck does support certain services of satellite radios

I don't use the satellite radio feature, however, there is an auxiliary jack on the rear of the unit. Crutchfield has a link to the user manual on the web page.

You can according to the instructions but I haven't done so. My phone is a pixel 2 and the USB doesn't recognize it as a storage device. So one of these days I'm going to buy a thumb drive, put a picture on it, and see if it will work. When I do this I'll update the answer.

Factory ones. There's about a dozen or so. Enough variations between layout and colors to keep it not boring looking. There's another way to add a custom image but I haven't figured that out yet. FYI, this radio does not play well with iPhone X, in case you have one.

    Q
When adjusting the EQ does music continue to play as you're adjusting it, or does it mute the sound and then unmute with the new setting, which makes adjusting the EQ take much longer, and more difficult to guage the effect?

Yes it does mute, make the adjustment, and then un-mute. It does not make EQ adjustments in real time.

You will be able to hear changes while you make them. It does not mute.

Yes, all you need to do is ground the wire that should go to the emergency brake circuit.
    john k  Feb 14, 2018

You can't. It's againt the law to play video in the front seat, I believe. And there is a green wire that you need to connect to the emergency brake that allows video to play only when the brake is engaged.

Yes, you have to override it. Not sure how, my brother hooked my stereo up for me.
