About the Alpine W12S4

Bob Bihlmayer

Holding down the BassLine

If you're a car sound enthusiast, you understand the importance of bass. Alpine shares that view, and they've created the BassLine Series of subwoofers to give you the low-frequency punch you need to create a well-balanced system. You won't just hear the bottom end, you'll feel it. And best of all, Alpine's made these subs affordable so you can fill your vehicle with bass without emptying your savings account.

Built solid

Alpine's BassLine W12S4 12" sub is built around a polypropylene/mica cone that stays stiff at high volumes to avoid distortion. The poly-foam surround and tough steel frame give the cone the support it needs to pump out the volume. This sub handles up to 250 watts RMS and its 4-ohm impedance makes it a great match for most amplifiers.

Features

PWR Cone Design: The subwoofer's Progressive Wavelet Ribs (PWR) cone design helps break up standing waves and cone resonances to keep distortion low. The sub uses a polypropylene and mica damped cone assembly and a high-excursion poly-foam surround.

Progressive Polyester Spider: The progressive polyester spider provides accurate control of the subwoofer cone motion.

Two-Piece Yoke: The two-piece yoke uses a vented pole to provide improved air flow and help cool the voice coil.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals accept pin connectors, single or dual banana plugs, or bare wire up to 8 gauge.

Sealed Box Volume: The recommended sealed box volume range is from 0.75 ft³ to 1.5 ft³, with 1.09 ft³ being the ideal size.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume range is from 1.43 ft³ to 2.43 ft³. The ideal size is 1.84 ft³, using a slot port measuring 12-1/2" (W) x 1" (H) x 10" (L).

Customer Q&A

Q
Can I purchase a dual subwoofer enclosure ported here on Crutchfield and if yes, which one would work?
sonny  Apr 04, 2023
1 answer
A
Absolutely, Sonny. These Alpine W12S4 BassLine series 12"s sound really good in a ported box, and you can use the SPL Boxes SB212SV dual ported box in the first link below. This is an excellent match, and adding an amp that delivers 500-watts at 2-ohms you will have a nice setup! The second link below will pop a pair of Alpine 12's and the dual ported box into your web cart for order, we are here anytime to help! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_419SB212SV/SPL-Boxes-SB212SV.html https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rXYEc222/cart/EmailCart.aspx?emKey=3112037

Q
I would like to run this speaker with 2 6x9s on a 4 channel amp. Bridged, the amp I'm looking at puts out 130 rms. I don't want to turn heads, just want some bass. Will that much power get the job done?

Q
Can you install these in a 89 single cab gmc pickup?
shelby  Jan 06, 2019
2 answers
A
I am not sure if you would find a pickup box with enough air space. Check out the boxes designed to go behind the seat. Something like the kicker 44tcwc or 43 tcwrt would be good options. You will lose a little bit of storage and a little bit of seat adjustment, but it will work.
william  Jan 07, 2019
A
You need to run an amplifier and sub under or behind seat but don't know how much room you have but have to put speaker in a box and wire that to amp
cami  Jan 06, 2019
Q
Can someone throw together the ideal ported box blueprint type thing. And what would the tuning frequency of this be?
waffle  Nov 02, 2017
1 answer
A
According to the Alpine owner's manual, the recommended vented (or ported) box should measure: 22.5" (width) x 12.5" (height) x 14" (depth); with a vent (or port) length of 12.5" x 1" diameter. For more details or to discuss further, please feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Thanks! :)
