Carefully engineered drivers for musical sound

Unlike some compact speakers which can sound shrill or fatiguing, each SX-50 uses a 1" silk soft dome tweeter for smooth, detailed highs. The tweeter's foam damper helps reduce reflections and increase soundstage depth for a truly spacious, room-filling experience. The 5-1/4" custom designed mid/woofer delivers accurate midrange and powerful, yet controlled bass with minimal distortion.

The SX-50's solidly braced MDF cabinets are computer-designed to help minimize standing waves and prevent unwanted resonance from coloring the sound. Heavy-duty, gold-plated binding posts make it easy to connect the high-quality speaker wire of your choice for top-notch performance.

Features

1" Silk Dome Tweeter: The Cambridge Audio SX-50 bookshelf loudspeakers feature a silk dome tweeter that combines a soft, smooth sound with high levels of detail. A dedicated foam damper behind the tweeter reduces reflections and increases sound stage depth for a truly spacious, room-filling experience where you can pick out every instrument.

5.25" Treated Paper Cone Woofer: The SX-50 bookshelf speakers employ a custom-designed 5.25" midbass driver with a treated paper cone for a smooth and even frequency response. High power, efficient woofer magnets deliver deep bass without putting stress on your amp.

Optimized Crossover Network: The SX-50 uses a precisely optimized crossover between the woofer and tweeter that gives the smoothest and most linear response.

Rigid Bass Reflex Enclosure: The Cambridge Audio SX-50 bookshelf speakers feature a rigid MDF cabinet, expert designed to minimize standing waves and deliver deeper, tighter bass response. The enclosure features rear-firing port for improved efficiency and bigger bass output.

Binding Posts: The Cambridge Audio SX-50 bookshelf loudspeakers are equipped with a set of binding post terminals. The binding post terminals will accept bare-wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana-plugs (dual or single). The terminals are color-coded (black/red) to distinguish between positive and negative.

Applications: The Cambridge Audio SX-50 bookshelf loudspeakers are ideal for stereo and home theater applications in smaller rooms.

Placement: Ideally the speakers and listening position should be located equal distances apart. The speakers should also be placed at ear level. In addition, the speaker should be positioned at least 2" away from the back wall. If the speakers are placed on a desk or close to a wall, the bass may become too strong. The included foam inserts will reduce the bass output when inserted into the speakers' ports.

Mounting Options: The Cambridge Audio SX-50 bookshelf loudspeakers include 8 self-adhesive foam-feet (4 each) to simply place the speakers securely on a desk, table, shelf, or speaker stand securely and safely. The foam feet add approximately 0.125" to the height of the speakers.

Note: The bookshelf loudspeakers do not include brackets, keyhole slots, or threaded inserts to wall-mount the speakers.

Customer Q&A

Q
Does using the Bass Plug add more Bass or take away Bass? or something more complicated to explain?, thanks JM

A
Greetings John. Thank you for your question. The Foam port plugs reduce the bass output. Sometimes speakers need to be placed closer to a wall. For some individuals the bass then can be to heavy. To reduce that effect, port plugs are used.

Q
recommended output is 100 watts max. So would these not pair well with the Cambridge AXR100 stereo receiver?

I don't see why not, I have this pair connected with Dennon DRA-800H (also 2x100W) and they work great! Awesome quality.

I would say yes. I use them with the AXA35 with excellent results as a nearfield speaker.

I have a pair of Klipsch RP-600M speakers and they perform beautifully. The unit is clean and has more power than I need even at very low volume levels. I see no reason they would not be a good choice.
