About the PAC C2R-CHY4 Wiring Interface

Zak Billmeier
PAC's C2R-CHY4 radio replacement interface lets you replace the factory radio in select 2005-20 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Mitsubishi, Ram, and Volkswagen vehicles, without losing the accessory output and other signals. It also allows the new receiver to turn on the factory amplifier, if present.

Another plus -— once you've connected the appropriate PAC steering wheel audio control adapter for your new car stereo, the C2R-CHY4 interface eliminates the need for the second PAC interface (SWI-CAN or SWI-CAN2) that's usually required for your vehicle, saving you some cash. Warranty: 1 year.

Product Research

Features

Radio Replacement Interface: The PAC C2R-CHY4 allows you to replace the factory radio in select Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep LSFT & MSFT CANbus vehicles with an upgraded aftermarket radio. Connectors are provided for either type, and the interface auto detects which CANbus system is connected. The C2R-CHY4 has been engineered to seamlessly interface with your automobile's computer data-bus system and provide necessary outputs for installation of an aftermarket navigation radio, while retaining operation of your vehicle's factory installed amplifier (if equipped). The C2R-CHY4 will even turn on the factory amplifier via CANbus information.

Optional SWC Interface: The C2R-CHY4 provides a direct connection for the optional PAC steering wheel control interface (541SWICP2, sold separately), so you can retain your vehicle's factory steering wheel controls.

Amplified & Non-Amplified Factory System Compatible: The PAC C2R-CHY4 is compatible with both amplified and non-amplified factory systems.

  • Vehicles Without A Factory Amplifier: Connect the aftermarket radio's front & rear speaker wires to the vehicle connector.
  • Vehicles With A Factory Amplifier: The factory amplifier only accepts two channels of audio input (left/right). Connect the front outputs of the aftermarket radio to the rear inputs of the vehicle connector. This will allow navigation voice prompts and Bluetooth calls to be heard. The rear speaker outputs of the aftermarket radio are not used. Fading is not supported in this application.

Note: Vehicles with a factory amplifier will lose front-to-rear fading capability when the factory radio is replaced. The amplifier's fading is controlled by data communication from the factory radio. The aftermarket radio does not have the ability to control the amplifier's fader.

Compatible Vehicles: This interface is compatible with the following Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Mitsubishi, and Volkswagen vehicles.

Additional vehicle specific gear is needed to install aftermarket radios into the vehicle and perhaps a different wiring interfaces too depending on other factory options like steering wheel radio controls. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to discuss the radio being installed to get help locating all the parts that are needed.

Q
Will I still need a wiring interface if I get the ready harness?
jon  Mar 12, 2021
1 answer
A
Yes, you still need the wiring interface. The ready harness is a service we provide, not an actual harness. We connect the wiring interface specific to your car to the radio's harness.

Q
I have a 2011 Ram 1500 with the Alpine amplified system. Will this harness work for that?
baron  Dec 31, 2020

A
This harness can be used to help install an aftermarket radio into your pickup. We have others that can work as well. Also, other parts are needed to successfully install an aftermarket radio into your pickup. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation on those installation parts

Do you just have to wire the radio harness into this?
janet  Sep 18, 2020

Yes buying the components separately you would need to do the wiring. Crutchfield does offer a pre-wired service for a small fee that provides all the connections you need for a plug in connection.

which wire is the vehicle speed ?
mike  Aug 30, 2020

Meaning adjusts volume according to vehicle speed? I don't think my vehicle had that so I'm not sure/familiar with that particular wire, it was likely one I didn't end up connecting

jay  Aug 12, 2020

This interface can be used to install a radio into those 2011 Challengers. We also have other choices that might be a better match for the actual version of the car that you have and the radio being installed. I recommend contacting an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to check this and get all the installation parts that will be needed

Q
So I used this to install a Sony in my 2009 Jeep Wrangler. But now the ESP BAS and Traction light are on. It drives fine. I took it to my mechanic and it's show codes for lost communication with amplifier, radio, etc. Radio works and amplifier I put in works. Stock amp was not there. Any ideas?
ronald  May 22, 2020

A
I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler and have had the same issue with the dash lights. I can tell you that your 3 lights are on likely due to a malfunctioning clock spring in the steering column and/or a steering wheel out of alignment, completely unrelated to the stereo installation.

Q
If this is not installed, will it mess up AC and Heater controls and possibly cause my truck to shut down for a second while driving?? 2010 Ram 1500. I had it installed by some idiots that told me this part was not necessary..
tom  Dec 16, 2015
2 answers
A
I used this for a 2006 PT Cruiser, but the principle is the same. This part is required for all modern Chrysler aftermarket sound systems. Cars and trucks now use the CAN (controller area network) bus for electronic components. The wiring in a car is multiplexed. It is not only supplying power. The CAN bus is a protocol that communicates with part of OBD (on board diagnostics). If you attach electronic components without taking into account the communication protocol, faults are highly likely. Some sysytems may not operate to prevent damage. Using the interface ensures that the aftermarket sound system will be tolerated/isolated by the vehicle OBD monitors. In my car the dash would display the radio frequency, CD, etc. with the temp and compass reading when factory stereo was in place. With the aftermarket sound system, the display would read VES for vehicle entertainment system. The wiring interface makes the aftermarket behave in the mode of a DVD system and all other systems operate normally.

Hi Tom by not using the PAC c2r-chy4 it will not effect any of your heater controls or cause the car to turn off it only allows for the stereo to intergrate a aftermarket head unit with the factory amp if the car does not have a amp there is no need to use it hope this helps.

If the radio you purchased is not compatible with the vehicle system YES.. I purchased a diff radio for my 2010 Jeep ( after the original was stolen) and the Crutchfield tech said I would need the interface to use my amp system..Excellent advise.. It works great, never a problem.. I live in Guatemala and the installer here had NO problem with the installation and instructions..Worth the money.. Hope this helps..
