About the AudioControl LC-4.800

Ken Nail

You want power?

The key to building a great car stereo system is power with control. AudioControl's LC-4.800 4-channel amplifier generates 125 watts RMS per channel, so it'll drive even the most demanding aftermarket speakers with plenty of headroom to spare. And it'll rumble the low end too — bridge this versatile amp's output and you've got 400 watts per channel on tap to get your subs bumping.

Control is key

When it's time to dial in the sound, you've got plenty of control. Highly adjustable crossover networks let you set your high- and low-pass filters precisely, and AudioControl's celebrated AccuBASS® circuit ensures maximum bass performance, whether you're connected to an aftermarket or factory stereo. The optional ACR-1 wired remote lets you control the volume from your front seat. Onboard LEDs indicate optimized signal flow for inputs and outputs, plus give you a warning when a source is too loud and causing distortion.

Add kick to your factory stereo

AudioControl designed the LC-4.800 to work equally well with aftermarket and factory stereos. Six active speaker-level inputs allow you to connect to almost any factory radio, while signal summing accommodates the separate bass, midrange, and treble signals in some amplified factory systems. AudioControl's GTO™ Signal Sense circuitry turns the amp on automatically whenever it senses a signal coming from the speaker-level inputs.

AudioControl LC-4.800

A suite of controls lets you dial in the sound output.

Product Research

Features

Overview: This AudioControl LC-4.800 multi-channel amplifier can enhance the sound of your car stereo system, whether it's a factory system or an aftermarket one. The amp will accept speaker-level or line-level inputs, and can be configured for 4-channel, 3-channel, or 2-channel operation. The LC-4.800 features a black brushed aluminum chassis, with black powder-coated cast alloy heat sinks and bottom panel in one piece. A black brushed aluminum cover is provided to protect the amp controls from tampering. A 2.5mm Allen wrench (supplied) is needed to remove the cover.

Power Output: The LC-4.800 has the following output:

  • 125 watts RMS x 4 at 4Ω
  • 200 watts RMS x 4 at 2Ω
  • 400 watts RMS x 2 at 4Ω bridged

Maximum Input Level Control (MILC): The amplifier analyzes the input signal to detect any clipping. If the signal reaches the level of clipping, the MILC Source Clip LED glows red, prompting you to turn down the gain level. When the gain level is maximized, a green LED will glow to indicate the gain is set to the optimum level.

AccuBASS: The patented AccuBASS processing circuit compensates for factory bass rolloff to improve bass performance, especially with most factory installed sound systems. The circuit has two rotary controls: the Threshold lets you dial in the level at which the AccuBASS will begin to work, while the Level control raise or lower the level of AccuBASS compensation.

ACR-1 Remote: The optional AudioControl ACR-1 wired remote, when enabled, lets you adjust the level of the main outputs, and the line outputs, from the driver's seat. A switch, located on the top of the amp under the removable cover, lets you enable or disable AccuBASS and the ACR-1. If disabled, the ACR-1 only controls the level of the line outputs. The ACR-1 comes with a 20' cable.

Controls: The LC-4.800's controls are located under a removable protective panel. The included 2.5mm Allen wrench is needed for removing the panel during setup. A flat-head screwdriver (not included) is needed to adjust the rotary controls. The amp's controls are as follows:

  • GTO Signal Sense: If you are connecting the amplifier to a factory stereo, or an aftermarket unit without preamp outputs and a remote turn-on lead, you can set the GTO Signal Sense to "On" and the amplifier will turn on when an audio signal is detected on the line-level or speaker-level inputs. After a period of time with no signal input, the amp will turn itself off.
  • Channels 1+2:
    • Front High Input: This rotary control adjusts the level of the Front High speaker-level input.
    • AccuBASS & ACR-1: 2-way switch to enable or disable the AccuBASS circuit and the ACR-1 remote level control (if connected).
    • HP Crossover Frequency: Rotary control to set the cutoff frequency of the High Pass Crossover for Channels 1+2. The control is variable from 30 Hz to 300 Hz.
      • Note: The crossover for channels 1+2 is high pass only; it cannot be bypassed and there is no full range setting.
    • Mode: If bridging channels 1+2, you can set the output to mono. If not bridging, it can be run in stereo.
    • Gain: This rotary gain control adjusts the overall output of the front channels.
  • AccuBASS: The AccuBASS circuit enhances the bass performance of the amplifier.
    • Threshold: The Threshold control selects the level at which the AccuBASS will begin to work.
    • Level: This dial adjusts the level of the AccuBASS.
  • Front/Rear Bus Sum: You can sum together the front and rear inputs so that you can drive four channels with two inputs. This switch lets you select Summed or Separate inputs.
  • Channels 3+4:
    • AccuBASS & ACR-1: 2-way switch to enable or disable the AccuBASS circuit and the ACR-1 remote level control (if connected).
    • Crossover Type: The rear channel crossover can be set to low pass (LP) or high pass (HP) with this 2-way switch.
      • Note: The crossover for channels 3+4 is high pass or low pass only; it cannot be bypassed and there is no full range setting.
    • Crossover Frequency: Rotary control to set the cutoff frequency of the crossover for Channels 3+4. The control is variable from 30 Hz to 300 Hz.
    • Mode: If bridging channels 3+4, you can set the output to mono. If not bridging, it can be run in stereo.
    • Gain: This rotary gain control adjusts the overall output of the rear channels.

Connections: The LC-4.800's connections are aligned along the front of the amplifier for ease of installation. The amp's connections include:

  • Fuses: Two 40A ATO blade-type fuses are installed in the amplifier.
  • Power: Set-screw terminals are provided for connecting +12V Power, Ground, and Remote In. The set screws can be tightened/loosened with a Phillips-head screwdriver (not included). The Power and Ground terminals will accept up to 3-gauge wire, while the Remote In terminal accepts up to 6-gauge. An 80A fuse should be placed in-line on the power wire, no more than 18" from the battery.
  • Line Level Inputs: Two pairs of RCA jacks are provided for connecting the amp to the source unit via RCA cables.
  • Line Level Output: One pair of RCA jacks for feeding the signal to another amplifier.
  • Speaker Level Input: Three sets of removable Phoenix (or Euroblock) connectors are provided for connecting the source unit via speaker-level input. The speaker wires are inserted into the connector and tightened with a screwdriver (5/64" Precision Phillips-head, not supplied). The connectors are labeled Front High (for tweeters), Front, and Rear.
  • ACR-1 Remote Level Control: This RJ-14 telephone-type connection allows you to plug in the optional ACR-1 Remote. The ACR-1 controls the output level of the amplifier and line outputs.
  • Speaker Output: Removable Phoenix connectors are provided for connecting speaker wire up to 12 gauge. The amplifier will accept a load impedance of 2Ω or higher in stereo (4Ω or higher when bridged). The speaker wires are inserted into the connector and tightened with a screwdriver (9/64" Precision Phillips-head, not supplied).

Q
i have a 97 jeep cherokee and the factory infinity amp lived under the back seat. would this amp be safe to put in the same location? i believe the factory amps were only rated at 30 watts or so. i just want to make sure this amp has enough airflow but then again its an expensive amp i dont want it out in the open either.

Greetings Josh, and thank you for your question. The AudioControl LC-4.800 is a class D amplifier. Class D generate much less heat than class A/B. They give a generous 5 year warranty, so I think you will be just fine mounting this where you like.

Q
Will this fit 2021 street glide special?
mark  Aug 31, 2022
1 answer
A
That depends on where you decide to make it fit, Mark! This AudioControl LC-4.800 4-channel amp is a universal unit, meaning that if it fits, it sits! The outside dimensions are 9"W x 2-1/8"H x 7-13/16"D, so this could slide into a saddlebag or storage compartment but may be too large for inside the fairing. I hear that space is tight on the newer Harley's and we sadly have little info in our research on your new bike. If you can fit it in somewhere this amp would provide massive wattage to your bike stereo, it's one of our favorite 4 channel amps for sure!

Are these new Audiocontrol amps built overseas now? I notice the new ones say, "Engineered in the Pacific Northwest" but not "and MADE IN." Thanks!

I believe they are still built in Washington state. if you look up Five Star Car Audio on Youtube, go to their page, and search for Audio Control Tour, you can check the tour that Dean did in January of 2020.

Q
If using this amp, would you still use the crossovers given when with the components speakers.? For example I have a set of Focal krx2 would i still use the focal crossover or no ?!
andres  Jun 02, 2021
2 answers
A
I would still use the Focal crossovers as they're set for exactly where the manufacturer believes is the best point for the speakers. Making your own guess doesn't seem like the best move unless you're using a DSP to actively crossover the channels.
jessica  Jun 16, 2021
A
If running speakers passive yes would use them if you run them active then you wouldn't

Q
I want to purchase this but my 4 speakers are 150 rms..will I be cheating myself and not using my speakers to their potential cause of the extra 25 watts I won't.have?
tony  May 26, 2021

A
That won't have much, if any, impact on the audio. This amp is an excellent match for 150W RMS speakers!

Q
Will I still need to purchase a dsp with this item? I already have an lci2 and an amp pushing a couple 12s
tony  May 26, 2021

A
The LC2i has two sets of preamp outputs with one being full range audio which will work with this amp. A DSP is not required to use it with your gear as long as you are powering speakers with this amp. We have advisors that can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 who can discuss your gear and goals in greater detail to help determine if one will help you achieve your goal.

Might not need a DSP if you're running an LC 2i already. Depends on how you have thing set up.
jessica  Jun 16, 2021

Yes, the lc 4.800 requires an outboard dsp. If you get the d4.800, that has the ddp built in.

Q
Hello, I have 4 speakers (2 coaxial and 2 component) both are 100W rms 4ohms, I need an Amp to power them... This amp is rated a 125W per channel at 4ohms... is it a problem to have 25w more to deliver to the speakers or the speakers need to have more than 125W?
nuno  Jun 05, 2020
7 answers
A
No, good clean quality power won't hurt them if you properly adjust your gain levels. Most likely you'll set your gains a little lower to compensate for the extra power. If you were going to use like 2 or 3 times the amount of rated power that would be a different story.
jessica  Jun 16, 2021
A
No problem at all. Just set the amplifier gain correctly to avoid distortion at all volume levels.
salvador  Jun 09, 2020
A
Not a problem at all. As long as you use proper metering to set your gains and levels, you should have no problem managing the amount of power sent to your speakers.
shane  Jun 09, 2020
A
No they will be fine.
ricky  Jun 09, 2020
A
It is no problem. I actually like to have the extra headroom. Just because it says a certain wattage. That doesn't mean it is throwing that much power all the time. Rims means what the amp is capable of continually. When your volume is @1, the amp isn't sending out 125 Watts. Watch your gains, bass boost, crossover point. Subsonic etc. This is a very good amplifier. That controls your speakers fantastically.
brian j  Jun 09, 2020
A
yes it is a problem. over driving speakers will damage them. thats why i went with MOREL speakers that can handle the extra power. this amp is for extra power, either up your speakers or find a 100 watt RMS amp.
michael  Jun 09, 2020
A
Not a problem to use an amp rated at higher power than your speakers but realize that at max volume/gain, the amp could deliver more power than your speakers are rated for resulting in damage to your speakers. I installed this amp in a Ford F-150 driving 4 Alpine speakers and am impressed with the accuracy /power of this unit.

Q
If I run just a set of coaxials on the front, could I bridge channels 3-4 to run a small sub?
eric  Jul 10, 2019
2 answers
A
Yes, just make sure your power and impedance are properly matched
jessica  Jun 16, 2021
A
Yes, that's exactly what my set up is with this amp. When bridged the amp makes 400 watts, but the sub needs to be 4 ohm.
erik  Jul 10, 2019
Q
will this eliminate the need for an sound processor when using the factory stereo?
kurt  Mar 20, 2019
2 answers
A
Yes is does. You do not want to overload with too much processing. Like, when you have. Say an EQ on your deck then you use an EQ from your phone. It will start to defeat itself.
brian j  Jun 09, 2020
A
Yes it will. My system sounds awesome. I added a 600wt amp with 2 8inch subs and the sound is super clear no distortion. I would highly recommend it.
