Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM

Hey everybody, it's J.R. and we are here in my truck on this beautiful January day to talk about my new Sony XAV-AX200SXM. I did a little shopping on the Crutchfield website and chose this radio for a bunch of reasons.

First and foremost, Apple CarPlay. It does have Android Auto, so if you have an Android phone, you're ready for that as well. Of course, I have an iPhone, so I went with it for CarPlay, which means I can text my friends and receive texts right on the screen. It doesn't read them or display your text, and it doesn't allow you to type your text in, it's all done through voice, through the included microphone so that you can text safely and hands-free while you're driving.

It interfaces with my phone for phone calls, it has the Spotify app, it plays Apple music, they even have a SiriusXM streaming app as part of CarPlay now, so I'm very excited about that. You don't have to do the streaming thing though, because Sony includes a SiriusXM tuner, the SXV-300, which you installed in the back of the radio. And so if I'm anywhere without cell service, I can listen to satellite radio the old-fashioned way, over the satellites.

In addition to all the CarPlay stuff, it has some basic features. Like it plays CDs, you can play a DVD in it if you want to watch a movie while you're parked, you can do that, it's got three backup camera inputs so you can have a standard backup camera as well as one that will show you maybe your trailer or the license plate of the guy behind you that's tailgating. Yeah, three inputs gets you a lot of flexibility with a backup camera.

If you like to tweak the sound, it's a pretty great radio for that, too. It's got a nice 10-band EQ with some preset EQ curves, and of course you can totally customize the EQ to your liking as well. And if you like to hook up amplifiers, easy to do that. You've got six channels of four-volt preamp outputs, so I have an amp pushing my subs and my speakers, and that amp is now getting great-quality signal from the radio.

I left out one of the best things about it, and this is such a simple thing. Many of the radios that have CarPlay have buttons for going up and down with the volume. I like a volume knob. I like to be able to turn the volume up, and this one has a nice volume knob right on the face of it, with it right next to the beautiful 6.4-inch TFT touchscreen.

And of course, last but not least with Apple CarPlay you get Apple Maps, which is a pretty great interface. You can speak your destinations into it, or you can choose recent destinations right there on the screen. I'm here to tell you I've been using it for about a month now, I've been on several road trips, been to places I've never been before, and Apple Maps is working great.

That's what I love about my new Sony XAV-AX200SXM. If you have any questions about this radio or any other radio for your vehicle, give us a call, chat with us online, send us an email, let us know how we can help. Thanks so much for watching.
