Wireless Streaming Pre-Amplifier: The Yamaha WXC-50 is a wireless streaming pre-amplifier that is part of Yamaha's MusicCast multiroom audio eco-system. The WXC-50 lets you add MusicCast multiroom audio to your existing home audio system (and vice versa).

Superior Audio Technology: Yamaha's relentless pursuit of sonic purity is clearly evident in the engineering of their WXC-50 wireless streaming pre-amplifier. The WXC-50 features a solid metal body with an aluminum cover and a slim, compact design that fits just about anywhere. Under the hood, you'll find high-performance components and advanced circuitry that deliver powerful, sonically-pure pre-amplification.

  • High Performance DAC: The pre-amp circuitry uses the same high-performance ESS Sabre digital-to-analog converter (DAC) found in Yamaha's high-end Yamaha AV receivers.
  • Precision Volume Control: A 48-bit digital volume control provides much greater precision and quality than conventional controls.
  • Proprietary Power & Ground Architecture: A proprietary power supply ground configuration prevents sound degradation.
  • Rigid Chassis: A highly-rigid metal chassis supplies the stability necessary for clear, powerful music reproduction.

Yamaha Proprietary Sound Processing: The WXC-50 wireless streaming pre-amplifier incorporates a variety of Yamaha proprietary sound processing technologies - like Compressed Music Enhancer, Volume-Adaptive EQ, & Advanced Bass Extension. You can also choose to bypass this digital audio processing.

  • Compressed Music Enhancer: The Compressed Music Enhancer greatly improves sound reproduction from smartphones or other compressed sources, like MP3 files.
  • Volume-Adaptive EQ: Volume-adaptive EQ automatically adjusts the bass/treble balance according to the volume level.
  • Advanced Bass Extension: Advanced Bass Extension Processing provides a deeper, richer low-end sound - great for use with compact or in-wall speakers.
  • Direct Playback Mode: Direct playback mode allows you to play back high-resolution audio sources just as they are, without any processing.
Note: These audio settings are accessible only from the MusicCast app on your compatible Apple iOS or Android mobile device.

Advanced Audio Features: The Yamaha WXC-50 offers additional audio adjustments to get the most out of the speaker and your music.

  • Ultra Low Jitter PLL: Sets the strength of the jitter removal applied to the audio input being played back, in order to adjust the audio quality. When the level is set high, the jitter removal is more effective, but the sound may cut out on low-speed networks. When the level is set low, the jitter removal is less effective, but the signal is more reliable for lower speed networks.
  • 3-Band EQ: The pre-amp's 3-band EQ (High/Mid/Low) can be adjusted from -6 to +6dB in 0.5dB steps, so you can tailor the sound to your preference.
  • Speaker Type: Optimizes the WXC-50's audio output for the type of speakers you have connected - Compact, Bookshelf, Floorstanding, In-ceiling, or In-Wall.

Note: To access the above listed audio features, you will need to access the internet and use the Web Control screen on your mobile device or computer.

Volume Levels: The WXC-50 provides a variety of volume level controls, settings, and adjustments.

  • Initial Volume: Set the volume level when the power is turned on. You can choose between Off (same as the volume when the unit was turned off), Mute, and -80dB to + 0dB in increments of 0.5dB.
  • Max Volume: Set the receiver's maximum volume level. This feature is useful to avoid turning the volume too loud by mistake. You can set the Max Volume from -20dB to 0dB in 5dB steps.
  • L/R Balance: Adjust the balance of the volume between the left and right speakers from -12 to +12 in 1 steps.
  • Input Trim: Adjust the volume level of each input. This is useful to balance the level of each input to avoid sudden changes in volume when switching between input sources. The range is from -6dB to +6dB in 0.5dB increments.
  • Subwoofer Volume: Adjust the volume of the pre-amp's subwoofer output independently from the main volume. Adjustable from -6dB to +6dB in 0.5dB steps.

Note: To access the above listed audio features, you will need to access the internet and use the Web Control screen on your mobile device or computer.

Player Mode: If you want to adjust volume from a connected Hi-Fi amp or AV receiver, the WXC-50 allows you to turn off "PREAMP" mode and use the device as a network audio player. Switching to "PLAYER" mode bypasses the volume control and any processing, allowing direct playback of high-resolution audio.

Analog & Digital Inputs: The WXC-50 wireless streaming pre-amplifier is fitted with analog & digital inputs. There is one stereo RCA input for connecting an analog audio source. There is one optical (toslink) digital input for connecting digital audio sources. The optical digital input supports 2ch PCM audio up to 32-bit/192kHz.

Analog & Digital Outputs: The WXC-50 wireless streaming pre-amplifier is fitted with analog & digital outputs. There is one stereo RCA output for connecting to an analog stereo input on your AV/stereo receiver or integrated amplifier. There is one optical (toslink) digital output and one coaxial (RCA) digital output for connecting to the digital input of your AV/stereo receiver or integrated amplifier. The digital outputs support 2ch PCM audio up to 32-bit/192kHz.

USB-A Port: The Yamaha WXC-50 is equipped with a rear-panel USB-A 2.0 port that allows you to enjoy a variety of music files stored on a USB mass storage class memory device, such as a USB thumbdrive or portable digital audio player (not compatible with USB HDDs). Your USB mass storage class device must be formatted in FAT 16 or FAT32. USB portable audio devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the AV receiver's USB port (5V/0.5A); even in standby mode. Compatible music files include:

  • DSD (2.8MHz/5.6MHz)
  • FLAC (up to 192kHz/24-bit)
  • AIFF (up to 192kHz/24-bit)
  • WAV (up to 192kHz/24-bit)
  • ALAC (up to 96kHz/24-bit)
  • MP3 (up to 48kHz/320kpbs)
  • AAC (up to 48kHz/320kbps)
  • WMA (up to 48kHz/320kbps)
Note: The receiver's USB port does not support Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad or Android smartphones/tablets.

Subwoofer Output: The WXC-50 is equipped with a mono-RCA subwoofer output for connecting a powered sub (sold separately). The subwoofer output is full-range; you will need to use a powered sub with a built-in low-pass crossover.

Customer Q&A

55 questions already asked

Q
Does the preamp feature add anything to an integrated amplifier that already has the preamp built in? I'm not that familiar with the workings of seperate pre-amps. I always thought they were for for record players and headphones, so I was surprised to see a streamer with one. I have a NAD C328 amplifier and I notice that this unit has an option for regular RCA output and preamp output. Would this improve the performance? Also, If I used the preamp output on this, would I plug it into the "record" input?

A
Greetings John. These are all quite excellent questions. Preamps adjust volume by increasing voltage of the signal to the amplifier section. I have this WXC-50 myself. In preamp mode I can adjust the volume on the WXC-50 and the Cambridge Integrated amp. More voltage going into an amp, makes the amp work less. Also using this as a preamp, would get more volume out of your amp, on a side note you may get a bit more distortion at the same time. I have tried both Preamp, and Player, and got better results from my amplifier using preamp. The preamp out is variable, the Aux Out is fixed, so that would have to go to either another preamp, or Integrated amp with volume control. There is no record input on the C328. You would, connect this to either the Streaming input, or the TV input. Not the phono input.

Can I connect 1 Wxc-50 to one amp and another WXC-50 to a different amp and have simultaneous output of whatever source. Also if I Bluetooth to one WXC-50 will it simultaneously cast on the other WXC-50. I would like sync audio over multiple amplifiers (indoor multi room & outdoor system)?

Greetings Nick, and thank you for your question. Within the Music Cast app you can group Music Cast devices to play the same source, including Bluetooth, as long as you have a home network set up, and the Music Cast devices have access to your network.

Will the optical connection work with Starkey hearing aids via the Thrive app 2.4 GHz used for TV sound?
paul  Nov 20, 2022
1 answer
A
In order to use the optical output connection of this device for your hearing aids, it would be necessary to have a transmitter connected that would send wireless signal to the hearing aids. If Starkey offers a transmitter option with optical input, then this should be doable.

Can you send audio simultaneously thru wired and bluetooth outputs?
david  Aug 18, 2022
1 answer
A
In Bluetooth transmit mode you should be able to send signal through the analog outs and transmit Bluetooth simultaneously, David. When using this pre-amp to stream audio to another Bluetooth device it outputs a fixed level. You will have to adjust the volume on the Bluetooth device itself, it cannot be adjusted by the pre-amp or the MusicCast app. You also cannot make Bluetooth connections to a Bluetooth device like smartphones for source signal AND transmit Bluetooth to speakers/headphones at the same time, it's a one or other at a time feature. I hope this helps!

Q
Does wxc-50 have bass management? Is the output of subwoofer a variable signal when we set the wxc-50 in player mode? Meaning, if I adjust the volume on my integrated amp, will it also increase or decrease the signals volume for subwoofer? And also is the signal full range or attenuated to certain frequency ?
pradeep  Apr 05, 2021
1 answer
A
The subwoofer output sends full range audio and needs to be connected to a subwoofer with a low pass filter. Also, Player mode disables all volume control within this unit and the integrated amp needs to have a way to connect a subwoofer to it so that the sub volume can be controlled by the integrated amp's volume control. We have some with this ability and advisors that can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 who can give personal recommendation on a unit that will work.

Starting with the basics, wires are susceptible to electro magnetics which can induce noise and other losses. So for starters optical cables are immune to all of this. Digital is also immune to the losses that can degrade anolog audio. If you can use an optical cable from any source as the input to your WXC-50DS this will yield the best performance.

I have owned the WXC-50 for a little over 7 months and have found it to be a very nice unit for the price and function it provides. I run it from my IPad Pro and the app stability and usability of the interface is quite good. Having said that, I use my unit a bit differently than how you intend to, but strongly feel it's worth trying in your case. I have ordered various things from Crutchfield on and off for literally several decades and they have always been very fair about letting me "kick the tires" to make sure what ever I've purchase fully meets my expectations. I know this doesn't give you a hard yes or no to your question, but hopes it helps you to at least give it a try.

I have a Parasound HINT 6 amp with built-in DAC but it doesn't have Bluetooth/WiFi. Can I use the WCX-50 as a wireless/Bluetooth endpoint *only* and bypass it's DAC? What physical connection would I use between the 2? Optical/coax?
james  Oct 07, 2020

A
You can just use the Bluetooth in this streamer without ever entering any online streaming account information but that streaming interface cannot be disabled. It will be on; just unused in your goal. Using its digital audio output will bypass its DAC. This can output on both coaxial and optical digital cables so you can use the one that best suites your amp. Now, that being said, we have Bluetooth receivers with digital outputs so you don't have to pay for the extras you don't want. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check current model Bluetooth receivers

The WXC-50 Aux in and Aux out connections are not set up to be an External Processor loop. But there is little reason to need a processor loop because the WXC-50 is a preamp which means the EQ can be connected between the WXC-50 and the power amp.

I have outside speakers connected to a receiver inside. I use Spotify, etc., on my pc, as well as music stored on my pc. Would like to control all this when outside -- via WiFi on my phone. I assume bluetooth through a wall is not feasible. Can someone explain how these streaming devices work? What do I see on my phone, can I access my stored music, etc.? thanks in advance

Connect an Ethernet cable (WiFi works too but I like hardwire for components that do not move around). The WXC-50 will do all the streaming that your PC now does. It will play stored audio files from a DLNA enabled hard drive too. Connect the WXC-50 output to an auxiliary input on the receiver. The receiver is now just a power amp with the WXC-50 doing all the input selection, EQ, and level control. Regarding the phone, WIFI should work to run the WXC-50 from your phone depending on distance. Just need the App from Yamaha. The WXC-50 phone App is awesome. I rarely touch the WXC-50 for anything.

I currently stream Spotify, Pandora, YouTube, and would eventually like to add SiriusXM and Tidal. I want to be able to stream music and use a turntable with my vintage Yamaha CR-2040 receiver. Should I use the AUX out on the WXC-50 to the AUX in on my CR-2040 to stream music through it? Would I need a DAC for this set up? The CR-2040 only has a pre-out and no main-in, so I'm not sure how I should use the WXC-50 with it. Would the WXA-50 make more sense to use with my vintage Yamaha via the pre-out? Wouldn't that be a loss of power?
jason  Jun 15, 2020
5 answers
A
A lot of receivers including vintage models output more power than the 55 watts RMS per channel amp that's built into the WXA-50. As for connecting the WXC-50 to your receiver, your description will work to play the audio because there is a DAC built into the streamer that allows the analog audio outputs on them to work
jason  Jun 30, 2020 (Staff)
A
I would use the WXC-50 "pre out", with the switch set to "player", into the Aux input on the Yamaha receiver. That way you get the high resolution DAC output from the WXC50. Don't use the Aux Out, it comes off a lower resolution DAC inside the WXC 50. Don't worry about levels; it should be enough, and the WXC 50 has lots of level adjusting capability. You won't need another DAC in any instance, the WXC 50 has two built in. BTW, the Aux input on the WXC 50 digitizes the analog input and feeds it on as digital. Great ADC by the way.

I have WXC50 pre out plugged into a line in on my stereo. Work fine this way. I have WXC50 Vol set to max, but, of course, if WXC50 is set to the "player" mode, the vol control will be disable, I don't need to worry about the vol control, but I also lost the ability to control the vol from it. Not sure for WXA50, if go this route, maybe just replace CR2040 with Yamaha R-N series.
yijen  Jun 23, 2020
A
Hello, so you have several options, I too have a vintage set up (much older 1957 tube pre-amps) the WXA-50 has a decent built in DAC so you can simply via the RCA outs of the WXA into your Auxiliary input of the CR2040. You also have the option as you hinted of doing the opposite, you can drive your receiver with the pre outs of the WXA, there will be no loss of power as there is plenty of gain from what I have experienced on this model. I think option one is the most simple and is what you are looking for but the other option lets you control all the volume from your streaming devices or via the WXA which can be convenient. My set up is first option, and it works perfect. I use Spotify, Pandora, and my own digital music server at home. I do use an external DAC but only because it re-times the digits from my slow network speeds I have at my home. Hope that helps it's a very easy set up.
jeff  Jun 23, 2020

Not sure of your exact configuration, but I stream Spotify into a WXC-50 and then feed the output into 3 cascaded Russound P75 amps each of which powers ceiling speakers in a different part of the house. Enables independent control of the volume in different regions and works great.

From the schematic in the service manual, I learned that the analog input is digitized by an international A/D converter, and passes through the digital path like all other digital sources. So it comes out the analog output through the DAC like everything else. It seems to be a very good A/D converter though and sound through that path is surprisingly good.
glenette  Apr 23, 2020

Yes, the analog input is applied to both the analog output and an ADC (IC211 PCM9211PTR) chip which creates PCM Code.

Try linking the WXC-50 to the R-N602 via the musicast app (they will need to share the same wifi/Ethernet network connection). I haven't tried it, but I drive a preamp input using the line-level AUX output (stereo RCA connectors). The WXC-50 also has an optical output, and you can configure the line-level output to be variable, instead. I'd think one of those configurations would work to drive a headphone amp.

The back of this unit (from left to right) has "aux" out with sub (LFE?) port, a second pre-out, and a optical out. can i use all three of these for 3 different zones? can the optical send 5.1 to a receiver if the source is 5.1 or will it convert to stereo only?

If the receiver that's getting the signal from the WXC-50 is 5.1 capable, I would have to say yes because you'd be using the brains of the receiver as the last in line before the signal hits your speakers. David references doing a deep setup if you have multiple Yamaha units to make the remotes get along. How do you do this? I have a Yamaha Aventage RX-A2000 that I have the WXC-50 hooked up to and would like to be able to turn them both on at the same time and control them with one app on my iPhone. Right now, I am toggling between MusicCast and the Yamaha AV Controller. With my AVR remote, I can turn both off and on, with the MusicCast App I can only turn the WXC-50 on/off. Q
On the YAMAHA WXC-50 streamer/preamp there are both digital and analog outputs, and digital and analog outputs. Does the AUX IN RCA-jack analog audio input get digitized and processed by the internal DSP when selected? (is there an internal D/A converter?). This is required if only using the optical output but wish to listen to AUX-IN audio. Does the PRE-OUT or/and AUX-OUT duplicate (in analog) the coax and optical outputs? If either of these doesn't work as describe, how are analog signals processed? I understand the pre-amp vs the player functionality, but this question relates to digitizing (then DSP tone/volume/loudness processing) AUX-IN, and analog out capabilities. The manual doesn't address this topic, or please provide a page number to clarify.
david  Oct 11, 2017
2 answers
A
OK. I have purchased this unit, love it in all respects. I can now answer my own question: Do the AUX IN inputs get digitized and processed internally by the DSP (volume, treble/mid/bass adjustments/many more), and are those signals then available at the digital coax/optical outputs? Yes. This all works just like you hoped it would work but the manual nor marketing does not indicate that. I have just one unit, and use it for a preamp/input selector/stream collector, which then feeds optical digital to a Behringer DEQ2496 phase-coherent equalizer, and then my amp&speakers. The analog inputs ARE digitized (A/D converter), processed, and go in digital form to the equalizer. Great purchase at a fair price. BEWARE: IF you have other Yamaha devices, the two remotes will conflict turning on/off all devices, so you have to use a deep setup feature to change the WXC-50 remote ID to an alternate code. ALSO: I was greatly disappointed by the encoding/bit-rate quality of the free streaming AM/FM radio stations and do not consider this an adequate replacement for good FM radio, to my ear. The streaming services (Pandora, SiriusXM) are better.

I have one of these units and love it, but have been wondering the same thing. I use it to play WAV files that are on flash drives on my other Yamaha units around the house, but (more importantly) I use it to play records from my all analog sound system to the rest of the house. I connect it all through my wireless so there is enough bandwidth to pass an analog signal but I can't help but think that it would convert it to digital. I am only using the RCA jacks on it as it is connected to a Sansui 9090DB. I have had the unit for a couple of months now and it really works well and the vinyl sounds great out of the other units in the house, but I would love to know if there it uses a ADC to convert the signal to send and the other units are then using a DAC to play. I really like the unit, but the price is a bit steep. If the unit was half the price I would probably get two or three more. -Dan

I have Marantz SR6011 receiver and want to add Yamaha WCX-50 + power amp to whole setup. When i listen music, i want to use Yamaha WCX-50 (pre amp and dac) + power amp and when watching movies i use SR6011 + power amp. Is this possible connection? How to connect all components so it will work?
kristina  Oct 02, 2017

Yes you can do this. Connect the Yamaha WCX-50 to an available input on the Marantz SR6011. When you want to listen to music you need to switch to the input you selected above. When you watch moves you switch back to the input your DVD player or TV is connected to. I do this and it works great.
greg  Oct 04, 2017
A
If I understand correctly, you want to use the WCX as a preamp for the power amp AND the SR6011 as a preamp/processor for the power amp. Not sure that will work as most power amps only have a single preamp input, i think it would require you to plug and unplug the WCX and SR6011 as needed to listen. If you connect the WCX to a digital input on the SR6011 then use a pre out to the power amp you should be good to go.

Purchased the WXC-50 and just setting up. This is for a downstairs system with NAD integrated amp and Polk speakers. My questions is: I have another nice system upstairs with an Onkyo amp and B&W speakers, so to connect wirelessly the two systems I guess I have to another another box? (WXC-50) will the two boxes be in one zone? the manual does not address this
roberto  Jun 15, 2017

A
Yes you need another MusicCast device in order for the two areas to connect wirelessly. Another WXC-50 serving as a preamplifier, or a WXA-50 as an amplifier, or any of the Yamaha receivers that has MusicCast. Inside the MusicCast app you have the option for the zones to play as stand alone areas or you can link the zones and play as one. I have (1) WXC-50 on a receiver in the bedroom, another WXC-50 on my receiver in the basement, and a R-N602 Yamaha receiver with MusicCast built in in my living room. I have the option to play all (3) rooms separately or link them to play in unison.

You need to have two WXC-50s. Then you can link the two together using the smartphone app. They will play the same music in sync with each other. I have two WXC-50s on separate floors and they work great. For best results, make sure you have a strong WiFi router in your house.

Not sure -but I can tell you the blue tooth feature is not accurate and nor strong signal

Has anyone compared this to the Bluesound Node 2 ? I am interested in the ease of use with the MusicCast app and the overall sound quality. It will be used in a wired environment connected to a networked NAS. Thanks

I connected my WXC through to a Denon integrated amp; it drives 2 Klipsch speakers. So, my config is different from yours. That said, the preamp is going into my integrated amp as 'an input' - so the speakers the Denon is driving would all behave as with any other input, like a CD player. I do find the preamp volume an interesting addition to the signal path - a volume control on my Android pad, a preamp volume control and the amp volume control. Not sure what the 'ideal' arrangement for these volume controls is!

Q
As a preamp, how is the sound quality? Is it warm, bright or neutral? Does it color the sound in any noticeable way? Also, does this work with Plex?

I just got mine a few weeks ago, but so far, I'm very pleased with the sound quality. I have not noticed any coloration, but I feed the output into a McIntosh tube preamp, and I'm mostly listening to Spotify Connect. So although the source (Spotify) is not hi-res, the tube preamp warms things up. The WXC-50 does have some deliberate signal processing that you can disable, but I like it so far.

I use this to power two sets of Yamaha in-ceiling speakers on our outdoor porches, so it's not an optimal listening environment for an audiophile, but "warm" best describes the sound quality. We are very pleased with the results. Can't comment on whether this is PLEX compatible.

Tough question since terms like "warm" and "bright" can be pretty subjective, but I'll try to describe my experience best I can. I'll say overall that the WXC-50 is a pretty neutral preamp. Using an example, before I was streaming Spotify from my laptop to an stereo amplifier (so my laptop was my preamp). Now, with Spotify streaming straight to the WXC-50, I notice that I'm picking up some lower frequencies that I wasn't before and the sound is bit more detailed. It's not a night-and-day difference but still noticeable. Plus you can manually adjust the EQ, the highs mids and lows, to meet your needs. I don't use Plex so I can't comment on that. However, I've had the WXC-50 for almost a month now and am really satisfied with how it's performed.

The sound quality is very good. They tend to lean on the warm side in my opinion. They do not have a Plex app for this unit however.
greg  Feb 25, 2017

I like a warm sound with pronounced vocals. The equalizer allows adjustments to achieve this. I'm very happy with the sound. I don't know about Plex.

The sound quality is very good. I mostly use this to play pandora and WAV files from USB. It does have a direct mode so in theory the sound should be unaltered. It does have an enhancer mode which brightens things. There is also a bass extension mode that I personally do not care for, just doesn't sound natural. Of course the sound also depends on the amp you hook it to. In all I am happy with the WXC-50. I highly doubt it works with plex, but the MusicCast app is user friendly.

How is the speed for scanning a big library from USB? In my case big is almost 7000 songs across about 700 albums with not quite 900 artists. PowerAmp on Android is super fast, but I've had other apps where I just gave up waiting.

You can set up Windows Media player on your PC as a DLNA server over your network. I just did it with a 70GB library and it works beautifully.

USB must be formatted in FAT so the largest you can use is 32 GB. The library loads very quickly (almost instantly)

Send me 16gig stick and I will test this for you! I have not collected 7000 songs yet as I'm on old Vinyl/Cd guy. I love my Yamaha WXC-50 DAC at the recommendation from my friends at Crutchfield. I was going to spend $1000 on another Brand and Model and they saved me over $650! Nice Management and Network interface! Thanks Jim K.

My Bluesound Node 2 indexed 30,000 songs from a 2TB USB hard drive in about 45 minutes. However, it is not able to play music from a large hard drive connected to the USB port on the Bluesound, as this port does not supply enough current to correctly operate the drive. This was intentional design as this is a network streamer not a USB player. Bluesound prefers that you connect a USB hard drive to a network device like a computer or router and LAN the music via a network cable or wifi. Indexing time will likely be the same. The USB port can run flash drives and other low current hardware only. Streaming via ethernet cable or wifi has been absolutely flawless with this device in every configuration I have tried.

Thus far it has been a total disappointment as far as connectivity, etc. I sent an email to Yamaha for support on Jan.1 but have not received any answer to my dilemma. At this point, I am stuck with an expensive but useless piece of equipment. Augmenting a traditional HiFi system with it in order to extend the sound to other rooms with bluetooth speakers does not seem to work as advertised.

I've been using the MusicCast app every day for about a month and I really enjoy it. The WCX-50 is connected to an older Onkyo receiver and some tower speakers in my living room. I also have a pair of Yamaha WX-010 speakers in another room. You have to press a button on top of the wireless speaker and on the face of the WXC-50 unit to initiate the "connecting" phase. I did this connection process on the first day and have never had to do it again. The app is very user friendly, once you figure it out. The app is organized by room: select the room by hitting the power button, then select the source of music, and operate the volume in the app. Very simple. The app also allows you to link multiple rooms to synchronistically play the same music. I have had to relink the Yamaha speakers to the "Living Room" two or three times, but that just means using the app to click a few buttons. Takes 30 seconds and isn't a big deal to me. Others may be frustrated by that- a few finger taps during the span of a month isn't a big deal to me. I have had no issues with playback. Sound quality is pretty good, but the tower speakers with the base unit sound better than the much smaller wireless pair. Not sure that's the app's fault, though. Overall, I'm very pleased with the robustness and convenience of the MusicCast app. If this is any indicator, I intend to add Yamaha wireless speakers to at least two more rooms in my house. 4.5 out of 5 stars!

I've purchased two of these this year. The MusicCast app is rock solid. I've had no issues with connecting or syncing my two receivers. They are awesome! I have a pretty solid WIFI setup though. If people are having trouble I would tend to look at their WIFI setup.

I had major connectivity issues getting the unit working with my setup. Mind you My day job predominantly relates to computers. Finally got it working but have issues with Spotify dropping out and lagging. Running the same thru Sonos connect with no issues whatsoever. I do love the connectivity on the back of the unit but it does me no good if the wifi part is spotty. Whanted to give it a good try before using Crutchfield's generous return policy. Hope this helps.

Wifi has a problem keeping up with hi-def music streaming. They recommend an Ethernet connection for this very reason. I upgraded my router to a 3 channel, two of which are 5G. The playback problems disappeared immediately, but the 5G range is very poor. The router almost needs to be in the same room. You can't beat the convenience, but stay with a good CD player fo really good sound. (BTW, Spotify sounds terrible in spite of the new router. The sound is just very one-dimensional. It could be my ISP?.)

I have 3 Yamada WXC-50s. They work perfectly. The only quickie part was solving connection speed problems. I have many WiFi devices (3 Apple TVs, Xbox, IPAD, two wireless printers, (2) wireless Uverse boxes) networks. I installed a Linksys Powerline router and put the WXC-50 and Yamaha Receiver on this dedicated network connection. Since its essentially hard wired networking, there is no impact on the other wireless devices.

The owner's manual says US & Canada models are 110 volt 50/60 Hz power. Korean model is 220 volt, and all others are 100-220 volt 50/60 Hz. I would guess with the proper adapter you would be ok in another country, but the one I got from Crutchfield has a US plug and works with standard house voltage of 110 volts.

When connected through cable (ethernet), reaching internet and/or a NAS, if I play an internet radio with my application installed on my phone, will it stream the data via cable or wireless (through the phone i mean)? Thank you and congrats for the exellent device.

When using the Yamaha APP to stream from any of their supported online services, you will be using your home internet service. If you are streaming to the Yamaha from your phone via Bluetooth, you will use your phone's data plan to stream from online services (assuming you have not connected the phone to your home Wi-Fi network). I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5
