About the Bose® Virtually Invisible® 791 II

Eric A.

Bose's best in-ceiling speakers yet

If you're like me, you want a little bass oomph when you listen to movies and music, but you don't necessarily want large, floor-standing speakers cluttering up your living room. Bose calls these in-ceiling speakers Virtually Invisible because they're designed to blend into any decor. You can enjoy crisp music, sound effects, and dialogue from hidden speakers.
A 7" woofer and two strategically-placed 1" tweeters help each Bose® Virtually Invisible® speaker fill your room with clear, accurate sound.

Each Bose® Virtually Invisible® 791 II speaker has a 7" woofer to handle the low notes, and two strategically positioned 1" tweeters to direct the all-important mids and highs to your ears. Exclusive Bose Stereo Everywhere design provides balanced stereo sound over a wider area, with no drop-offs.

The speakers are easy to install in your walls, and they come with a pair of round grilles that attach magnetically. The grilles and grille frames are finished in white, but are paintable to match your decor.

Features

Virtually Invisible In-Ceiling Speakers: The Bose Virtually Invisible 791 II in-ceiling speakers are engineered with one 7" woofer and two strategically positioned 1" tweeters each, eliminating the need to aim the speaker into the room. The acoustic design allows for full, even sound coverage, while their smaller size increases placement options. Exclusive Bose "Stereo Everywhere" speaker performance provides balanced stereo sound over a wider area, with no drop-offs.

Stereo Everywhere Speaker Performance: "Stereo Everywhere" speaker performance produces balanced stereo sound over a wide area, unlike conventional home audio speakers that radiate sound mostly in a single direction. Bose "Stereo Everywhere" speaker performance delivers sound evenly throughout the listening area for balanced stereo sound wherever you listen, not just in one sweet-spot.

Drivers: The combination of two 1" dome tweeters and a 7" high-excursion woofer provides spacious stereo sound for your favorite music. You will also enjoy the deep low notes of dramatic movie sound effects. This makes 791 II speakers ideal for a rear-channel option in a home theater setup. The tweeters are strategically positioned to eliminate the need to aim the speakers into the room.

  • 7" Woofer: A 7" high-excursion woofer delivers deeper low notes for more dramatic movie sound effects and musical richness.
  • Dual Angled 1" Tweeters: Two strategically positioned 1" tweeters (array configuration) in each speaker eliminate the need to "aim" the speakers into the room. This lets you arrange your room with greater freedom.

Spring-Post Terminals: The Bose Virtually Invisible 791 II in-ceiling speaker use spring-post terminals to connect your speaker wire (18-14AWG).

In-Ceiling Installation: The Bose Virtually Invisible 791 II in-ceiling speakers offer simplified installation with only four clamp screws that secure each 791 II speaker to your drywall. The 791 II-series speakers also feature an infinite baffle design that uses the ceiling as the speaker enclosure. The infinite baffle design eliminates the need for a separate speaker enclosure, so it uses the space above the ceiling instead. Once you have positioned the speakers, just tighten the clamp screws and snap the magnetic grilles into place. The finished looked is unobtrusive, and almost invisible. You can even paint the speaker grilles to match your décor.

Note: Virtually Invisible 791 II speakers are designed for in-ceiling installation only. Virtually Invisible 791 II speakers can only be installed in wood frame construction covered with wallboard made of gypsum, plaster and lath, paneling or similar construction.

Paintable Grilles: The ultra slim bezel is attached directly to the speaker grille, allowing them to be easily painted in one simple step and blend elegantly into the room. And with no cloth scrim, there's no worry of excess paint clumping or soaking in. Plus, magnets allow them to snap on and off quickly.

Cutout Template: Cutout templates are not included in the box, therefore, you will need to print a template from the manual linked from the Crutchfield website, or from Bose.com. You must make sure the template is printed at 100%, and not enlarged or reduced. The measurements on the template are expressed in millimeters, but a 1" scale is provided to make sure it is printed to scale.

Q
Can you use the 791 II Speakers as Rear, Front and Center channel for home theatre Surround Sound or is the center channel no longer necessary?
tim  Dec 05, 2020
1 answer
A
A center channel speaker is still necessary for getting good volume with voices. These speakers can be used for all those locations in a theater system!

Q
are these Bose speakers compatible with a sonos amplifier?

We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question.

Q
Will these fit in the Klipsch ME-650 enclosure? The enclosure diameter is 8.47" and the Bose literature says to cut an 8 5/8" hole. Realizing that 8.625" > 8.47", but wonder if the real world tolerances would allow this speaker to actually fit in the box?
christopher  Apr 07, 2020
1 answer
A
I would not expect them to fit. If the Bose recommended a cutout of 8.5" then most likely they would fit. Being that these Bose are a good amount over that, I do not expect them to fit the box without modifications to the box

I am looking for a sound system to install in the street: we would like to equip 1 and 1/2 block with wireless, commercial grade and wether proof speakers that would allow us to wirelessly connect to the band we book for festivals or to play our business pandora for community events. Is this the right system?

No, you do not need a subwoofer when using these speakers, all you will need is the receiver and the cabling. Hope this helps.

Not at all, they are great. They are in my garage and wow!
