Bring on the power

The R-W12D4 can handle up to 750 watts RMS, so be sure to choose a suitable amplifier as these bass monsters definitely want lots of power. Its dual oversized 4-ohm voice coils offer wiring flexibility you'll appreciate as your system changes and grows, so you can always pull maximum power from your amp. It works well in sealed and ported enclosures so you can choose what kind of bass you want to hear and feel.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible.

Features

Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine R-Series subwoofer has a parabolic, Kevlar reinforced pulp cone. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design. There is also an inverted polypropylene/mica/talc dust cap, which increases rigidity.

HAMRS: The woofer features a High Amplitude Multi Roll Surround (HAMRS), made of rubber, that allows a large linear excursion and greater SPL. The HAMRS design allows extreme excursions without sacrificing valuable cone area.

Progressive Spider: The progressive spider has reinforced layer tinsel leads to ensure reliable and consistent control of the tinsel leads and eliminate any mechanical noise or interference often seen in high excursion cone designs.

Compound Radius Curve Pole Geometry: Alpine's Patented Compound Radius Curve pole geometry ensures a symmetrical magnetic field, while optimizing flux density to reduce distortion and further improve power handling and output.

Oversized Voice Coil: The oversized (65mm), high-temperature, 4-layer dual voice coils increase the sub's power handling.

Dual Voice Coils: For system flexibility, the woofer has two 4Ω voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load; when wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals are all located on one side of the woofer. The terminals will accept bare wire up to 8 gauge, pin connectors, or single banana plugs.

Jumpers: Included with the woofer are two voice coil terminal jumpers. These jumpers allow you to easily wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 2Ω load) or series (for an 8Ω load).

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: The recommended sealed box volume ranges from 0.65 cubic feet to 1.1 cubic feet, with 0.85 cubic feet being the ideal size. (The volume in the manual is given as net, before accounting for the displacement of the subwoofer when installed.)

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume ranges from 1.33 cubic feet to 1.83 cubic feet. The ideal size is 1.71 cubic feet, using a slot port measuring 12.5" (Width) x 1" (Height) x 16" (Length). (The volume in the manual is given as net, before accounting for the displacement of the subwoofer and slot port.)

I Bought a kicker cxa1200.1 to pair with one of these Subs, will it work well? Will I have to set the amp or wiring in any articular way, at 2ohm or 4ohm to lower power delivered to sub?

Q
Will this fit in a single cab box I have a 1999 Silverado single cab?

I don't think it's gonna fit for a single cab I would use a thin woofer platform it will still sound great

Q
I bought an Alpine MRV-M500 Monoblock Amplifier. Along with the Alpine R W12D4 subwoofer. Will that amplifier work for that subwoofer?
jcarp  Jul 14, 2020

A
Yes at a 4 ohm load it will do 300 watts I would drop the load to 2 ohms to get 500. I purchased 2 of these subs and dropped the load to 1 ohm they pound give your amp room to breathe and you should be good.
anthony  Jul 14, 2020
A
Yes for sure. You will need to run the sub at a 2ohm load which will pull all 500 watts of power from the amp and will be enough power to make the sub sound good. I am now running the 750 watt alpine amp on my type R now and its not much louder than it was when I had the 500 watt amp so your good to go. The box its in will make the most difference. Good luck.

Q
Is Rockford Fosgate R500X1D Prime 1-Channel Class D Amplifier good for this subwoofer?
karn  Jul 05, 2020
2 answers
A
No I don't think it is. That amp is 500watts at 2ohms right. That's not enough power. I mean, it will work, sure but it won't be good for the Sub and it won't sound the best. Go for something as close as possible to 750 watts @ 2ohms.

Q
Can I use the Boss R1100M Amplifier Riot 1100 Watt, 2/4 Ohm Stable Class A/B, Monoblock to power this sub (Alpine R-W12D4 R-Series 12" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils )in a ported box? Rms for this sub is 750watts rms at 2ohm, and the amp is rated at 825watts rms at 2ohm. I'm new to this and not sure if the extra 75watts rms is to much. while the peak power of sub is 2250watts and the amp peak power is 1100watts if that makes a difference. please any advice would be appreciated.

I would recommend a class d amplifier. It will power what this speaker demands. If you buy/use the one you have, you will probably end up needing/wanting a better amp. I have 2 R-W12D4 pushed by an 1800 watt rms class d amp with no problems other than my neighbors complaining. I went big on the amp because these speakers can take it. Class D amps have better circuitry and dissipate heat very well.
joshua  May 03, 2020
A
Yes it would work if the amplifier is a true to the rms and that extra power is ok if set properly on the amp Hope this helps

Q
what size coil does this sub woofer have?

@ least 2" check their website or call alpine themselves. They do their rated power & some, so it's usually not an issue
