Apple CarPlay®

Just like our editor here, once you drive with CarPlay, you'll wonder how you ever got by without it. CarPlay integrates your iPhone into the driving experience in a seamless interface, putting iPhone content at the driver's fingertips with minimal distraction. That means easy access to your music library, audiobooks, phone, messages, navigation, and many third-party streaming music apps, too. Learn more at www.apple.com/ios/carplay.

JVC KW-V830BT DVD receiver with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Using your Android smartphone and this receiver's Android Auto, you can use Google Maps to find your way.

Android Auto™

If you're an Android fan, you'll love how Android Auto integrates the Android platform into your driving experience in a non-distracting way. You'll have voice control access to Google Maps, weather, music, your phone, text messages, plus easy access to many of your favourite apps. Get more info at www.android.com/auto.

All kinds of radio

If you enjoy Internet radio on your iPhone® or Android™, you'll really dig playing music from Pandora and Spotify on this receiver. If you're looking for radio stations that won't fade away when you drive out of town, add a SiriusXM tuner to this JVC to enjoy satellite radio's deep programming from coast to coast. The KW-V830BT also includes a sensitive AM/FM tuner to catch all your local stations too.

Go wireless with Bluetooth®

Bluetooth enables wireless streaming for music, podcasts, and audiobooks, along with the convenience of hands-free phone calls. This JVC lets you can quickly switch between two paired phones — handy for vehicles with more than one driver. You can install the included wired microphone close to you, so callers can hear you loud and clear.

Sound and vision

Crave the best sound quality? You'll be stoked that the KW-V830BT supports high-res file playback, for compression-free CD-quality sound when you're cruising down the highway. And don't forget, you can also enjoy all your CDs, DVDs, or USB drives full of MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, or FLAC music files. You can also plug in your portable audio player into the rear aux input for additional sound options. The display will show video when you're parked, and you can also feed video to optional screens you can add for your backseat crew.

JVC includes digital time alignment, Sound Lift, and K2 technologyTone-worthy advantages

This receiver also offers an impressive array of sound-sculpting controls, including a 13-band graphic equalizer and digital time alignment. Since much of today's music uses compression which can sometimes muddle the sound, so JVC's K2 technology helps bring back the depth and detail for all your digital music sources. If your car speakers are located down low in the doors, this receiver also offers Sound Lift, which adjusts your music's frequencies to virtually "raise" your speakers for better, more natural imaging.

Nice touches

The KW-V830BT includes three pairs of hot 4-volt RCA preamp outputs provide an ultra-clean signal when it's time to add amplifiers to your system. JVC also includes a customizable layout and an electronic angle adjustment for the display, providing better visibility depending on the radio's dash location in your vehicle. This receiver's "El Kameleon" stealth design delivers a seamless black look to your dash, so it won't draw as much attention when you don't want it to.

iDatalink Maestro lets you keep your factory extras

The KW-V830BT offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included). The module lets you keep factory features in your Chrysler, Ford, GM, Toyota, Fiat, or VW vehicle that you'd otherwise lose when you install a new radio. You'll also be able to check out expanded functionality on the JVC's screen, including gauges, climate controls, a distance sensor, and tire pressure and temperature monitors. It'll even integrate your stealth K40 radar detector into the stereo's display, so you can see and hear about incoming threats (coming soon).

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Touchscreen + Remote Control

6.8" Clear Resistive Touchscreen: The JVC KW-V830BT features a 6.8" widescreen (16:9) clear resistive touchscreen LCD with LED backlighting. The clear resistive touchscreen LCD provides a high contrast ratio, crystal clear display, and vivid text. The LCD touchscreen has a resolution of 800 (H) x 480 (V) x RGB with 1,152,000 total pixels. The LCD serves as a video monitor, system information display, and touchscreen control panel.

    • Gesture Control: In addition to basic touch control, the receiver's 6.8" touchscreen offers Gesture Control. Gesture Control lets you operate certain functions of the KW-V830BT by making specific gesture commands on the unit's touchscreen. You can adjust the volume of the multimedia receiver by making a circular motion with your finger on the unit's touchscreen. You'll also be able to navigate your music by simply swiping the touchscreen left/right or up/down.
    • El Kameleon Design: The KW-V830BT features JVC's El Kameleon "stealth" design which totally blacks out the 6.8" touchscreen monitor when the head unit is powered off or your vehicle is turned off; there is no backlit illumination at all when the receiver or vehicle is off. There is still a JVC and SiriusXM logo, plus the KW-V830BT's model number, as well as volume up/down and function buttons on the front-panel.
Note: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire (attached to rear chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display a blue screen and "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork; as well as CarPlay & Android Auto.

Display Settings: You can make the following adjustments to the head unit's touchscreen display to better fit your application and needs.

    • Custom Home Screen & Backgrounds: You can customize the head unit's Home Screen by rearranging the icons and moving the icons of the four most sources you use most to this screen. You can also choose between six preset background images or download your own still image (800 x 480) for use as the unit's background from a connected USB thumbdrive.
    • Variable Color Illumination: The touchscreen panel's color illumination can be changed to one of eight preset colors - blue, red, green, yellow, orange, purple, pink, or aqua. You can also choose to have the unit constantly scroll through all eight preset color. In addition, you can create a custom color using a combination (0-31) of red, green, and blue.
    • Clock Display: The DVD receiver offers a 12-hour clock which is visible from any source or menu screen. With your vehicle's key in the accessory or start position, the head unit will continue to display the LCD background image, clock, and button illumination during "AV Off" mode. Pressing the Power button touchscreen icon turns the unit off completely.
    • Dimmer: When the illumination lead (orange/white) is connected and the dimmer set to Auto, the display will dim automatically when you turn on your vehicle's lights. The dimmer can also be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display is always dimmed), or Sync (dims or brightens when the headlight switch is turned on or off).

Remote Control: The JVC KW-V830BT offers compatibility with factory steering wheel controls (adapter sold separately) and comes with an wireless remote control for added convenience.

    • IR Remote: The JVC KW-V830BT includes an IR remote control (RM-RK258) for wireless operation of the DVD receiver, including Bluetooth hands-free communication.
    • Steering Wheel Controls: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).

Security Code: You can program the unit with a 4 digit security code. Once the unit has been programmed with a security code, the code must be entered to use the unit after it has been disconnected from power.

iPhone (CarPlay) & Android Auto Integration

Android Auto: The JVC DVD receiver supports the Android Auto app for Android smartphones running OS Lollipop (5.0 or newer). Your compatible Android smartphone must be connected to the JVC receiver's "black" USB port (not "grey") via the included USB extension cable and the USB cable that came with your smartphone, plus be paired via Bluetooth. Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for driving and automatically brings you useful information and organizes it into simple on-screen "card-style" pop-ups that appear just when they're needed. It's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road ahead. Features of Android Auto include:

    • Google Assistant: The JVC receiver enhances your Android Auto experience even more by incorporating Google Assistant using the head unit's external microphone and your car speakers for voice command and text-to-speech, which makes using Android Auto and all of its integrated applications fast, easy, and safe. You will need to press the "mic" button or say "OK Google" to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make a call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, or listen to music.
    • Google & Waze Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. Select your destination by using the head unit's touchscreen or just say where you want to go through the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You can even listen to music from your Android Auto device or other connected source device while using Google Maps. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
    • Phone & SMS: With Android Auto you get access to your contacts and messages through the JVC receiver while keeping your eyes on the road. Use the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology to make a phone call, or have your text-messages read aloud to you while you concentrate on the road ahead; you can even reply to texts via voice command.
    • Music: Access your Android smartphone's music library through the JVC receiver via Google Play Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen to select songs or just say what song you want to listen to through the head unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You also get access to online music and radio stations from Amazon Music, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, & Tune-In. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo.

    Notes:

    • Android smartphones with a USB Type-C connector (including the Pixel) may not function without appropriate USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Android Auto is being used with a connected Android smartphone.
    • Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable other than the one supplied.
    • If you do need an additional USB extension cable, use Kenwood's CA-U1EX USB extension cable (113CAU1EX, sold separately). Any other USB extension cable can cause Android Auto to malfunction

Apple CarPlay Compatible: Apple CarPlay is the smarter, safer in-vehicle interface to operate your iPhone (iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector. CarPlay features Siri voice control and is specially designed for driving scenarios. It also works with the JVC receiver's touchscreen controls. • Maps: The power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars.
    • Phone & Messages: You'll be able to make calls, return missed calls, and listen to voicemails through the JVC receiver. Siri can also help you do all these things. In addition, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages for you; so you never have to look at your iPhone while driving.
    • Music Library: Access your artists, song, playlists, and iTunes Radio on your iPhone using the JVC receiver's touchscreen. Or, just tell Siri what you'd like to listen to. The head unit's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background.
    • Apps: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, radio, sports, news, podcasts, & audiobooks. Control them from the head unit's touchscreen just like you would from your iPhone. Current supported apps include (fees may apply):

    Notes:

    • Bluetooth hands-free phone cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • If you need an additional USB extension cable, use Kenwood's CA-U1EX USB extension cable (113CAU1EX, sold separately). Any other USB extension cable can cause CarPlay to malfunction.

iPod/iPhone Music Playback Only: If you don't desire Apple CarPlay, you can also connect your Lightning-connector Apple iPod/iPhone to the KW-V830BT for music playback & control only using JVC's Lightning connector-to-USB cable (105KSU62, sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device. You'll also still be able to control most connected Apple devices from its own touchscreen while connected via USB.
      • Category Search: Category Search allows you to navigate your iPod/iPhone's music library by Playlist, Artists, Album, Song, Genre, Song, Podcast, Audiobook, or Radio. You can then search each of these categories using the head unit's touchscreen slider function (categories will be listed in alphabetical order).
      • Link Search: The head unit offers Link Search, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Search lets the head unit create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, a artist list of the currently playing genre, or a album list of currently playing composer.

You can answer the call from the head unit's touchscreen, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call immediately (1-30 seconds).
    • Dialing a Number: Using the KW-V830BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

This receiver is a double din size which means it needs a 7" x 3-15/16" opening to fit (typically rounded to 7" x 4") and it needs 6.755" for mounting depth going into the hole. HTH! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

It should work just fine with the 7 Plus. The specs show it is compatible with the 5c all the way up to the iPhone 10. If you already have the unit and are not able to get the CarPlay feature to work (which requires phone to be connected via cable) try changing the iPhone cable itself. When i first installed my stereo I found that one of my older charging cables wouldn't work with CarPlay. Simply switched to a different cable and It's worked great ever since.

I just confirmed that it'll play Amazon Music via Bluetooth audio on this JVC KW-V830BT head unit. The sound is pretty good too. CarPlay only works via the USB port with a lightning cable. You can use either method.

About a year ago I switched from Amazon music to spotify. You may want to because thus unit works seemlessly with my phone via bluetooth. Spotify capability is built into the unit. But the answer for you is yes. When i want to listen to my podcast app i press the button on the unit for bluetooth connectivity. Then i say okay google, play [podcast]. Anything playing on my phone plays through the unit - without a cable. So you could play a playlist from your phone. I am not sure if you can download an amazon music app into the unit software to make your selections from the unit.

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

You have to put the android auto app on your phone. Then android auto will use the GPS app on your phone. You can use Google maps or Waze.

Android Auto supports Google Maps. This JVC unit has a separate GPS, but I believe that it's only augmentative: it helps assist Google Maps. The unit, JVC, does not have a standalone GPS function (i.e. maps).

Android auto will work on your phone without being linked to the head unit. But to use it on the head unit it need to be directly hooked via wire. I use a short charging cable with the USB end plugged into the head unit. It also charges the phone at the same time.

Does this unit automatically connect to a previously synced iPhone each time the car and unit are started, or does it require a manual BT sync every time it is turned on?
    thomas  Oct 10, 2017

    A
Yes it will sync to two phones automatically. The challenge come with the use of factory phone connection. I installed in my 2013 Jeep Wrangler, with a kit to retain the factory steering wheel settings. Works great, just have to know how to set it up with the carplay so you can use the factory stuff if that is what you intend to do.

I have an Android and the wife has the iPhone but I'm 99.9% sure it syncs automatically as long as you have Bluetooth enabled on the phone. We also have an iPad and it syncs automatically every time we turn it on as well. We're using the iPad for music as we travel. In fact I know the phone syncs automatically - we'll be listening to music from the iPad and her phone will ring and the radio turns down the music so we can answer the phone hands free.

Can the button illumination be changed ???
    carn00b  Jul 24, 2017
    1 answer

Yes: "The touchscreen panel's color illumination can be changed to one of eight preset colors - blue, red, green, yellow, orange, purple, pink, or aqua. You can also choose to have the unit constantly scroll through all eight preset color. In addition, you can create a custom color using a combination (0-31) of red, green, and blue." Q
I'm setting up my amplifiers and wanted to know at what volume is distortion detected on this receiver?
    richard  Jul 24, 2017
    1 answer
    A
Well, that depends. There is distortion (clipping) on the line level outputs, which I assume you would want to use to drive external amplifiers. And there is clipping from the internal amplifiers. The amplifier clipping point is also going to be impacted by the load. I can't give an accurate answer without a proper bench test, but to my ears, the unit is pretty clean up to about 75% of full output (master level). But again, this should not be considered a precise answer.

    Q
I just installed this stereo. For the most part really like it. Have a question about SiriusXM operation. It has 4 sets of 6 presets. When I cycle through he presets with my steering wheel controls it will go through P1.1, P1.2... P1.6 then back to P1.1. I would like for it to go to P1.1, P1.2... P1.6 then to P2.1, P2.2, etc. Basically sycle through all 24 presets in a row instead of just the 6 presets for the current "Band" that it's in. How do I do this?

    Q
Why does this unit come with a GPS antenna? It doesn't appear to have any built in map apps, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connected phones will have their own GPS. It looks like the system can use the GPS to sync the clock...but that doesn't seem like a good enough reason to include an antenna.

    Is the screen brightness adjustable?
    bob  Apr 02, 2017
    1 answer
    A
When the illumination lead (orange/white) is connected and the dimmer set to Auto, the display will dim automatically when you turn on your vehicle's lights. The dimmer can also be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display is always dimmed), or Dimmer Time Set (you program the time for the dimmer to turn off an on). You will find this information, and more, by clicking the "Details" tab on the stereo's main webpage and scrolling down below the "Features& Specs" table. I hope that helps.
