Highly efficient Class D technology keeps this powerful amp running as cool as it looks, and allows for a compact chassis that fits in a lot of out-of-the-way spaces.

Cool power

Pioneer's sharp-looking GM-D9605 5-channel amplifier can power your entire car audio system, sending 75 watts RMS to each of your front and rear speakers while delivering up to 600 watts RMS to your sub. Highly efficient Class D technology keeps this powerful amp running as cool as it looks, and allows for a compact chassis that fits in a lot of out-of-the-way spaces.

You can also create a strong front soundstage with bass by putting the GM-D9605 into 3-channel mode, sending 200 watts RMS each to a set of components up front, for example, plus 600 watts to a sub.

Connecting and tuning made simple

If your car stereo doesn't have RCA outputs, you can use the speaker-level inputs to hook this amp directly into your system. The amplifier switches on automatically when it detects the high-level input signal, eliminating the need to run a turn-on lead to your receiver. And the built-in high- and low-pass filters let you adjust the sound for your car's interior.

Features

CEA 2006 Compliant: The Pioneer GM-D9605 5-channel amplifier power ratings are measured according to the Consumer Electronics Association's CEA-2006 standards. These standards allow you to accurately compare the rated power output of all CEA-2006 compliant amplifiers, even from different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to the standards can display the CEA-2006 logo on their products and packaging. The amp has the following specifications:

  • Power Output:
    • 75 watts x 4 + 350 watts x 1 at 4Ω (with 1% THD+N)
    • 100 watts x 4 + 600 watts x 1 at 2Ω
    • 200 watts x 2 + 350 watts x 1 at 4Ω bridged
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 75 dBA

Class-FD Amp: A Class-D amplifier offers higher power in a smaller chassis than conventional Class-AB amp designs. Pioneer's exclusive Class-FD design not only delivers full-range Class-D amplification, but is more efficient than other designs. The result is clear full-range sound in a small amplifier. The ultra-compact design provides many installation options.

Channel Layout: The GM-D9605 is a 5-channel amplifier. The channels are labeled A (left and right), B (left and right), and SW (subwoofer). The left and right channels of both A and B can be bridged with an output of 200 watts (at 4Ω) for each, plus 350 watts for the SW channel.

Auto Turn-on: When using a high voltage speaker level input, a signal sensing circuit will automatically turn the amp on and off along with the source unit. This prevents the need for running a system remote control wire (turn-on lead).

Controls

Input Select Switches: The amplifier has two input select switches that allow you to choose the preferred input mode. For the A and B channels, the 4-channel mode requires that two pair of RCA inputs be connected to the amplifier's A and B inputs, while the 2-channel mode only requires one pair connected to the A inputs. If you have a separate RCA input for the SW channel, the SW Input Select should be in the SW position. If you do not have a separate SW input, the switch should be in the A/B position, and the SW channel will receive a signal from the A/B input.

Gain Control: There are independent gain controls for the A, B, and SW amplifier sections, each is continuously variable from 200 mV to 6.5 V. When you use the speaker level input, the gain control ranges from 0.8V and 16V.

Crossovers: The A, B, and SW sections also have independent crossover controls. The A and B channels have crossovers that can be configured for Low Pass, High Pass, or Off (Full Range). The rotary frequency controls let you set the crossover point between 40Hz and 500Hz. The SW channel has a low-pass filter with a variable crossover frequency between 40Hz and 500Hz. You can choose a crossover slope of 12dB/octave or 24dB/octave via a 2-way switch.

Remote Bass Boost Control: The included Remote Bass Boost control module lets you adjust the amount of bass (from the subwoofer channel) from the front of the vehicle. The Bass Boost circuit is centered at 50Hz, with a variable boost level of 0 to 18dB. Module dimensions: 1-3/4"W (2-5/8" w/mounting tabs) x 11/16"H x 2" (including knob).

Connections

Power: The power and ground connections are set screw terminals that will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten and loosen the terminals. Pioneer recommends different power and ground wire gauges based on the length of the wire:

  • 8-Gauge: up to 7' 3"
  • 6-Gauge: up to 11' 10"
  • 4-Gauge: up to 21'
Note: The amplifier has three 30A fuses installed. A 4-gauge amplifier wiring kit is recommended with a 90A fuse installed within 18" of the battery.

Remote Turn-on: The remote connection is a set screw terminal that will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten and loosen the terminals.

Speaker Connections: The speaker output screw terminals for the A and B channels and the SW channel are of different sizes. The terminals for the A and B channels will accept up to 16-gauge speaker wire, while the terminals for the SW channel will accept up to 8-gauge wire. The set screws can be tightened/loosened with the included 3mm and 1.5mm Allen wrenches.

Signal Input: The amplifier features three pairs of stereo RCA inputs for Channels A, B, and SW. If no line level signal is available, use the included speaker level input harness, and splice the speaker wires from the source unit to the harness.

Do I need to run a Capacitor when running two 10 inch 4-ohm subs with this amp?
nunya  Jul 08, 2018

A
I wood to make your battery last longer.. It is a small amp but with big power. It would blow those two 10 if you are not careful. So just invest in the capacitor.
miguel x.  Jul 13, 2018
A
No you don't need to, but its not a bad idea if the subs are gonna be in a ported/vented box.
blake  Jul 13, 2018
A
Worked fine for me. No cap. Two tens.
darren  Jul 13, 2018
A
I thought I might with a single 2-ohm 10 inch sub with this amp but wound up not installing one and I haven't had any voltage issues so far. It depends on your car, battery, alternator and other things you are powering in your vehicle. If you are already pushing it with voltage availability, I would consider adding a capacitor for that clean power to the amp when you're listening to music.

Could i use this amp in my boat of mounted up high and under storage that doesnt get wet?
anthony  Jul 05, 2018

I don't see why you couldn't, just make sure it's extremely well hidden and away from other things. The amp itself does get hot, and you wouldn't want anything to get on it
kyle  Jul 06, 2018
A
Absolutely, this is what it's made for. And how I have mine mounted.

To be honest, if you are trying to keep stock head unit and amplify new speakers you might have a hard time. I have a nice stock screen in my Ram 1500 and decided to not amplify speakers and used a line converter

Has anyone experienced a noise issue with the GM-D9605, even with *proper* grounding?
william  Jun 25, 2017
2 answers
A
I have a little bit of noise with this amp, but I am running it in a Jeep Wrangler so the cabin noise masks it. But if I am listening in a quiet area, I can hear a little bit of noise between tracks. I wouldn't call it an issue; I expect it with amplifiers in this mobile audio price range.
david  Jul 13, 2018
A
I've had mine for a few months now and no I have not experienced any noises.

Q
I want to integrate this amp with my factory headunit. If I use just the front speakers for the high-level input connector, will it send a signal out of channel A, channel B, and Sub channel outputs? Or do I need to connect front and back speakers to the high-level input connector to get all three outputs?
kenneth  Dec 27, 2016
2 answers
A
You can choose to only use either channel A or B.
jr  Dec 29, 2016
A
I used an aftermarket head unit with separate RCA outputs for channel A, B and SW. I do know the amp has an option of using speaker outputs on your existing head if it doesn't have RCA jacks.
charles  Dec 28, 2016
Q
How many fuses do i need and how many ampers should they have? Wich 10/20/35/50 mm wires is good for this amp?
gedwu  Sep 17, 2016
1 answer
A
The Pioneer GM-D9605 has a 90amp fuse rating so you'll want your primary power line fuse for this amp to be at least 90amps or slightly higher. We recommend using 4 gauge power/ground cables for this amp. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5

Q
If I buy this amp... can I bridge it to just two kicker 2064CWD82 subs and not hook anything to the sub channel just yet or should the sub channel also be used?
daddy  Sep 13, 2016
1 answer
A
Yes, the left and right channels of both A and B on the Pioneer GM-D9605 can be bridged with an output of 200 watts RMS (at 4-ohm) x 2-channels. You don't *have* to connect anything to the subwoofer channel; but you may find a more suitable 4-channel amp to power your Kicker subs if you aren't going to add a sub to the 5th channel. If you would like to discuss your options further, feel free contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. I hope that helps!
