When Charlie Grasmick started fixing up his 1995 Ford Escort, a killer sound system was high on his list of priorities. He chose the Kenwood KRC-S400 cassette receiver as his system controller; the full-logic deck features a powerful 4-way internal amplifier (20 watts RMS/35 peak x 4), CD changer controls, a first rate AM/FM tuner, and a stylish mineral purple mica faceplate. The Kenwood KDC-C710 10-disc CD changer gives him instant access to his favorite discs.

Charlie mounted the Pioneer TSG-1645 6-1/2" speakers in the stock door locations, adding the Kenwood KFC-T202 tweeters high in the door panels for improved imaging. The rear side panels hold the Pioneer TSA-5713 3-way 5"x7" speakers. All speakers are run full-range, powered by the Kenwood's internal amp.

The Profile Q80 low-pass crossover sends everything below 70 Hz to two Profile A2400XL (100 watts RMS x 2) amplifiers — the crossover's bass boost is kicked all the way up at 45 Hz. The first Profile amp pushes two MTX Blue Thunder 12" speakers housed in a single black and white bandpass box which sits against the rear seat (running the width of the car). The second Profile powers a pair of Rockford Fosgate Series 1 10" woofers mounted in separate bandpass boxes which sit lengthwise on either side of the amplifiers. Not only did Charlie build the woofer enclosures, he also modified the factory rear hatch cover with grilled vents and a fan to keep the amps cool.

Power distribution is done from the 1/2-farad Lightning Cap mounted in the rear. Rockford Fosgate 8-gauge power cable, StreetWires speaker wire, Street Glow neon, and a Stinger 60-amp fuse holder complete the installation. The photographs make it clear that there's a true artist at work in this electrifying Escort — Mr. Charles Grasmick!
