Terrible Design. Screws not long enough for 2 DIN
Michael from Brentwood, TN on 1/5/2025
2008 Honda CRV
Double Din installation. took us an hour to finesse this thing together. Double DIN calls for the spacers and with the spacers, the supplied screws are NOT LONG ENOUGH. We even tried the existing screws in the factory car stereo we were taking out and they are not long enough. Also, you can not get a nice flush look with the bezel. it pops out as you shove the pieces together. bad design. I want reimbursed for an hour of my time wasted.
Pros: none
Cons: horrible design, hard to assemble. Screws not long enough.

Do not buy - garbage - use oem bracket instead
Paul from Prospect, CT on 9/28/2024

This dash kit does not fit a 2009 Honda CRV like the OEM, requires modifications, also very cheap - plastic, clips are useless- does not hold side brackets to face plate. Was used to install a BOSS radio BE7ACP-C. Ended up reusing the OEM bracket, dash plate from kit - fit perfectly.
Pros: Face plate

Andrew from Washington, PA on 8/13/2024

This was pretty good, but I wish the side pieces fit into the face plate more snugly. It seemed in danger of coming apart which would cause the head unit to shift in the frame, so I glued the plastic sides into the face frame before using. It's much sturdier but did end up taking extra time and money to make it work well.

It fits in almost perfectly, but there really needs to be a video tutorial, as the provided manual is worse than a walmart knock-off ikea-esq desk. Other than needing to invent 2 extra hands (used the sliding slots and 2 extra screws to hold the very ends of the brackets to the head-unit, then fiddles the main frame into place. The Manual says that you should be able to attach the brackets to the frame, THEN slide the head unit in. That's impossible, as the brackets need to be held in place (one hand per side), then put the radio in (third hand), then screw the brackets into place, almost fourth hand. but, I persevered, with much cursing and seething.

Works but is rage-inducing
Felix from San Francisco, CA on 1/9/2023
2007 Honda CRV
If this didn't fit great after being installed and look the closest to OEM in terms of color & texture, I would've given it 1 star. The design is really goofy if you need to use the provided spacers because it becomes, like another commenter said, a three-handed job (I actually had to get another person to help, so it was a four-handed job for me). Then there's the whole manufacturing quality, or lack thereof. Plastic molding extrusion tabs during manufacturing weren't cut off and grinded down beforehand so I physically wasn't able to fit the left and right side brackets as per the instructions until I snipped off the tabs. Additionally, there was a bit of plastic in a corner of the main frame that wasn't cleanly cut off during manufacturing and would've caused the installation to not be flush with the rest of the dash until I used a file to file it down.

Scott from Chassell, MI on 11/15/2022

Works fine once you get it together. Seems like a three-handed task at times as the side panels do not want to stay snapped in place. Used for a double DIN radio so had to cut and file center divider, I felt this could be part of the manufacture process with the cross piece held with screws or clipped into place. Faceplate fit nicely in to vehicle but rear mounting points had to be nudged to align with the vehicle screw holes.
Pros: Looks good
Cons: Awkward to assemble

Ed from NJ on 12/29/2020

Poor fitment - upper edge of the main panel doesn't completely fit flush with the OEM vent panel, flush in the center but gradually sinks in towards the side. Another customer posted an installed photo and you can see the poor fitment Finish/texture doesn't match the OEM dash parts. Included screws do not fit, they're too large. Come springtime I might try reusing the OEM dash panel and replace the lower pocket with the one from this kit, since the OEM pocket has an auxiliary input that's no longer used.

For a double din I had to do additional modifications beyond manufacturers directions. The brackets fight too tightly against the main frame and I am concerned that it will cause stress fractures on the brackets in time. However, it does work and looks good from the outside for now. Hopefully it holds up in time.

Good kit, but the directions are are not accurate. Installing a double-din head unit (Alpine ILX W650), I could not get the main front trim piece on after the head unit was mounted. The large dash trim has to be engaged to the side mount pieces before they are secured to the sides of the radio, then the entire unit mounted to the dash. (This is just the reverse action of how the OEM unit comes out).

This is a good product with many extra parts that weren't needed for my application. I installed this in a 2008 Honda CR-V. The trim pieces have a texture that is a perfect match to factory. The only negative and it's minor is the spacer that goes on each side between the stereo and the mounting kit. They kept falling out before I could get the screws in to hold them in place. I decided a few small dabs of silicone gasket material, (something I had already) any glue would work between the mounting kit and the spacer was the solution. Everything thing fit perfectly once I figured that out.

Good Dash kit
Jeremy from Greensboro, NC on 2/12/2019
2011 Honda CRV
I've used a lot of after market replacement dash kits, this one was very easy to work with. The instructions were a little cryptic, but the pictures helped and the fact that things could really only go together one way and line up right, really helped. I did find that my Pioneer face is catching on the plastic inset when it's retracting after opening up to let you put a dvd in. I'm going to need to do some filing or something to keep that from happening.
Pros: Worked great, well designed, did what it needed to do.
Cons: Wish the cowl around the radio fit the Pioneer a little better so it didn't require the filing to allow retraction.

Phil from Purcellville, VA on 12/7/2018

Honestly, this dash kit is junk. The mount brackets for the sides are plastic and attach to the faceplate with small tabs - that expectedly break. Very flimsy until you get it mounted to the stereo and then it's a gamble if the plate will break putting it into the dash. Get the Schoshe kit - much better and more like the factory mount.
Pros: Faceplate matches interior decently.
Cons: Small tabs are flimsy and will break easily.

needed a new receiver for my daughters 2009 Honda CRV, I have purchased several products over the years from Crutchfield, so I went back. Wasn't completely clear on the product as the pictures on the web were different with the interior of the m model they showed. I started a chat online and got all the answers I needed to complete the purchase in less than half an hour. Fast forward to installation, had trouble figuring out the mounting kit, called the service line and the tech used my smart phone and a video conference app to verify what I was doing and fixed my confusion. Installation complete!! The only thing I would say is they told me I needed to buy an installation tool kit for the install that I did not end up needing. However, to their credit, I called after the install was complete and they credited me for the kit. This is why I always go to Crutchfield!

Not as multi-purpose compatible as one would think.Used only faceplate
Erik from Linden, NJ on 3/13/2018
2007 Honda CRV
This review is for 3rd Gen Honda CRV and Boss BN965BLC Head unit this Dash kit was ordered for. First, the kit came in so many pieces it made my head spin just eyeballing all the pieces and made me grab the included paper to see how this needs to be attached to the head unit since there were couple plates to serve as, spacers? Second, upon following the simple, non-describing single and only picture on the paper, rather figuring it on my own I noticed that the mounting brackets overlapped the rear fuse on the head unit making it tilt vertically under about 10 degree angle on one side. The other rear side of the mounting bracket covered and thus blocked the radio port for the plug - due to that, there comes negative impression already, considering pliers will need to be used in order to break the plastic in both locations preventing the head unit fitting . Third, the spacers made no sense whatsoever as to how it should be placed and screwed into the radio yet they were needed even when using double din head unit since there were gaps and tilted the entire assembly inwards at the bottom sides of the head unit. Luckily, I could use hondas stock radio metal brackets, screws even, Boss did excellent job on pre-drilling holes to possibly all the cars stock mounting brackets. Cant say that about American International dash kits except the face plate which is all I needed at the end. Credit to BOSS though as they also provided detachable frame plate which was very needed
Pros: Face plate matches cars mounting openings right on spot. Retains stock looks for the vehicles dash even though the color is little off, tad brighter but very minor.
Cons: Its cheap partially fortified plastic making it brittle, not a fan of this type. Lacks complete installation instructions. Incompatible with Boss BN965BLC and I assume with plenty of other head units unless breaking rear sections of the bracket with pliers. Ended up using only faceplate and frame, 2 pieces out of 8 thanks to boss, saving lots of time and effort. Pricey, for double din options, American International should only sell faceplates with display frames for half the price.

The dash kit is very close to the OEM finish. It didn't line up completely, but the vehicle (2007 Honda CR-V) has 165,000 miles so it's not like I'm worried about resale value. IMO the instructions were very poor. For example, you'll need cut off the little "knobs" from the molding process to get the sides to snap together.
Pros: Looks good, follows the lines of the dash so it looks very similar to OEM
Cons: Poor instructions that leave out important details.

Being all plastic, i am not sure how long this will last. i saved the original harness because I will not be surprised if the plastic tabs where it attaches to the dash eventually break.

Mounting Kit
David from Knoxville, TN on 8/7/2017
Installed a new head unit as an upgrade to my daughter's 2009 Honda CR-V, and this kit helped a lot. However, the screws provided for attaching the mounting brackets to the head unit were too short to even go through the mounting bracket of the kit, much less actually attach the brackets to the head unit. You have to find/cut to length your own mounting screws.
Pros: Face trim looks like OE material Mounting brackets match OE mount locations
Cons: Screws to attach mounting brackets to head unit are too short to use.

Questionable Quality
Chris from Pittsburgh, PA on 6/12/2017
2011 Honda CRV
This dash kit did the job for me, but it's pretty cheap plastic, and the instructions are pretty awful. It didn't affect the security of my receiver being installed, but one of the tabs that clicks into the frame that goes around the face of the receiver was nearly broken off. The OEM stereo had metal brackets securing it to the dash, so it's a wonder why those wouldn't be made, and if they are made, recommended.
Pros: Did the job, but...
Cons: Cheap plastic, directions are not clear.

Good product, lousy instructions
Jon from Michigan City, IN on 5/8/2017
2011 Honda CRV
The mounting materials worked well once I figured out the process. The instructions are junk, referring to a non-existent image and using inconsistent terminology. I installed a single DIN Sony MEX-N5200BT.
Pros: Fits very well in 20111 CRV LX
Cons: Instructions are very poor, beginning with no clear directions on how to assemble the pieces! (Missing diagram)

2011 cr-v double din kit
richard from Staten Island, NY on 4/8/2017
2011 Honda CRV
Fit in my 2011 cr-v, Only modification was snapping off the middle plastic piece used for single din installation and the piece on the back, easy by looking at instructions. Finished product looks good, like it came in the car.
Pros: easy assembly, fits perfectly, looks almost seamless,(little space all around, veeeeeery little, not horrible, just had to mention it, fyi)
Cons: Says to file down after removing extra plastic pieces, you really dont need to, doesn't affect installation.

It fits in 2010 CRV
Brendan from Whitestown, IN on 3/26/2017
2010 Honda CRV
Fit and finish in dash is good. Dash clips fell off to never never land behind the dash, it's ok because they really don't hold anything it seems. Dislike any kit I have to break/cut parts off of but that's because it's a one mold for all design and the parts are all hidden by the bezel (user must trim the parts that would support the single din areas to install a double din radio) The front bezzle (cover around the radio area you press in last) could be a little tighter fit, on my older Panasonic 3200 it had a small gap at the top, seems to be hidden now it's in. In general though we will see as time passes if it needs a little dab of glue to hold in as it's mostly just a pressure fit with no real clips. The install instructions are good, but printing them out was a pain (had to sink to fit letter size paper), be nice if they included a hard copy like the old days. For the money it is worth it I guess. Installed in 2010 CRV base model with a Panasonic 3200 DVD radio
Pros: Fits Works Price Working with Crutchfield is still the easiest
Cons: Dash clips fall off if you ever need to remove Front double din bezel could be a better fit Trimming required for double din install

Did it work? Yes, but required a bit of cutting and glue to get it to fit together and hold. Felt very flimsy and cheaply made. Doesn't really match the CRV plastics around it. But once in it fit snug and first look too terrible.

Made very well and fit perfectly. Color and texture match stock interior plastic, looks oem.
Pros: Matched interior well, fit good and quality made.
Cons: Didn't use the included side mounts, were flimsy compared to metal mounts that came with stock stereo. I used those instead and install worked fine.

It's OK
F. Dave from Michigan on 12/27/2015
2007 Honda CRV
It did the job and it came free with the receiver.
Pros: I fills the hole and allows you to mount the after market radio in the car. It does not squeak or rattle when going down the road.
Cons: The plastic is not an exact form to the surrounding dash. It is slightly protruding above the surface in the middle and slightly recessed at the corners. It also did not allow me to use the metal mounting frame that came with the radio. To add options to the back of the radio I will have to disassemble the dash like it was first time install.

Fit my car and my new stereo
Vinnie from Pennsylvania on 11/23/2015
2008 Honda CRV
Fits the car well. The color and texture of the plastic trim matches the adjacent trim in the car. Once I assembled it it was easy to install. The directions were my only gripe. They are horrible. The first figure (the one for attaching the sides) mentioned in the directions isn't actually there. That was a little frustrating, but once I figured it out on my own it was pretty easy to do the rest.
Pros: Quality product. Fits perfectly in my car perfectly.
Cons: Terrible directions.

Not flashy but it works
Crutchfield customer from Illinois on 10/17/2015
2008 Honda CRV
It does not spruce up your dash in terms of appearance, but it works for my new car stereo. Perfect fit, and the additional compartment is a plus. The back screw is a little long and protrudes slightly within the additional compartment but is not obvious.
Pros: It fits and provides additional compartment for CDs or even the remote or your phone.
Cons: No glaring negative features as of this writing.

It worked as expected
Wingwiper from Eugene, OR on 3/3/2015
2009 Honda CRV
It took some trial and error to put things together, the instructions could have been a little clearer. Interestingly enough, when everything was done I actually ended up just using the double din bezel. i had the adapter put together and found I needed longer bolts to mount the radio. I was getting ready to go get them, and noticed that the Alpine double din radio actually fit perfectly in the existing frame from the Honda, it just needed a bezel. I took the one that came with the kit, trimmed off the mounting tabs, added 2 drops of superglue and was done :)
Pros: Pretty good construction Fit both the radio and the space in the Honda
Cons: instructions could be clearer radio mounting bolts were too short

Poor instructions, kit screws don't fit
Broz from Washington State on 1/31/2015
2008 Honda CRV
The instructions are incomplete, and wrong in some ways. It's unclear how to attach some items, there is no "Figure F" to refer to, and I'm supposed to attach a rear support bracket that's not included. I'm supposed to make one? Might as well make the entire kit. The screws that came with the radio don't have the reach to fit thru this new bracket. The kit screws don't hold tight.
Pros: Can be made to work
Cons: Essentially, pretty bad fit, and poor instructions.

Good produce
JRo from Washington on 1/31/2015
2008 Honda CRV
The fit and finish is good but not perfect when compared to the original Honda radio frame. There is a slight warp to the frame that is that can be seen when it is installed against the existing dashboard panels but it is not a big deal. The instructions supplied by the American International Company are poorly written and hard to follow, I had to re-read them several times and work with the part on the radio for a while before it made sense. The frame assembly instructions were separate from the Crutchfield MasterSheet instructions. In contrast, Crutchfield's instructions to disassemble and reassemble the dashboard panels on the MasterSheet were very clearly written. Too bad Crutchfield didn't write the instructions for the frame assembly.
Pros: Low cost, overall satisfactory frame.
Cons: Poorly written instructions.

Poor instructions caused headaches
JoeFab from New York on 1/6/2015
2007 Honda CRV
The instructions and associated illustrations were so poor it took me longer to figure out how to fit the correct bits together than it did to take apart the dash and install the new receiver. If you have not done this before and / or do not know if you have a DIN or ISO size receiver, you can try randomly fitting the bits together....statistically it can take between 5 and 60 minutes....but hey, you may get lucky! Better that the manufacturer take a lesson....and if there is a completely impractical pictorial instruction, only then add words.
Pros: Once installed fit nicely and appearance is consistent with the rest of car dash
Cons: Very poor assembly instructions.

Easy to assemble and install, but the finish doesn't quite match and the attachment points are plastic instead of metal, which makes me wonder if it might not crack and break over time.
