I received the part and it felt very flimsy. When installing, the fit was fine. The instructions were, as another reviewer put it, written for professional installers. I had to break some tabs off to fit and nearly broke the side piece. Very cheaply made and built. But, in the end, we made it work and it looks like a part of the dash.
Pros: Good fit
Cons: Bad instructions, cheaply made.

American International KIA-K1240 Dash Kit
Crutchfield customer from Los Angeles, CA on 9/10/2018
Worked and fit decent. Easy to apply and install. If you use it on one of the options that require removing tabs, note that can be easily snapped off by grabbing them near the base with long nose pliers, twisting first to one side, and then in opposite direction. This leave you with clean snapped off surface.
Pros:
Cons: Instructions are laid out for installers, the DIY person should take an extra minute to be clear on what is needed for their application, e.g,, what tabs to remove, spacers, etc., so that you can install on one quick path.

Finally installed the Kenwood, KDC-BT565U followed the instructions. The way the small oval spacers sit next to the radio, the only way to make sure the spacers stay put, had to use some electrical tape. The only issue the stock radio had small screws, had to get #8 phillips head flat head bolt, 3/8 length to screw the bracket to the Kenwood, KDC-BT565U. The 4 phillips screws were not used. Overall, that #8 was the only issue. Fit and finish of the Kenwood, KDC-BT565U and the bracket were just right.

My son and I discovered his 06 Kia Optima had an interior consistent with 2005 and earlier models. After a couple quick photos on the smart phone and an e-mail to tech support the correct adapter plate and wiring harness were shipped at no charge. With the correct products received the install went smoothly. Customer and tech support was fantastic. Thank you.
Pros: Awesome tech support
Cons: Mid year refresh on cars can make ordering the right equipment confusing. (No fault of Crutchfield)

Fit perfectly on my 2004 Kia Optima. Removing the different screw platforms on the sides for other car models is somewhat tedious. Just make sure all of the plastic from those extra holes is removed, otherwise the remnants can catch while you are inserting your new stereo. The kit fits in perfectly with the rest of the dashboard--it would take a keen eye to see that you not only replaced your stereo, but also the larger dash insert.

Used this dash kit for a JVC cd receiver on a 2003 Kia Rio. It's a life saver! Made installation soooo much easier! I had to use a razor knife to remove the very bottom trim piece to get the best possible fit, but other than that, everything was great. Very satisfied.
Pros: Makes replacement stereo look like OEM installation. Very easy to work with.
Cons: Had to remove one small piece of trim to get best fit.

Matt from Spokane Washington on 7/17/2014
Universal kit isn't very universal. Used this in a 2003 kia spectra. Specific instructions were made for the car and they were wrong. I was told to cut a tab and I should not have. The install looks bad because now there is a gap. The kit is cheap and flimsy and very complicated. I might switch out the kit because it's so bad.
Pros: The stereo is in the car
Cons: Cheap and flimsy, poor instructions, looks bad complicated kit.

peter from St Paul, MN on 4/26/2012
2006 Kia Optima
I installed this in a 2006 Kia Optima, Old Body Style. It gets the job done, but the directions weren't clear to me that I had to remove certain tabs depending on my vehicle. Removing those tabs was also very difficult. It would be nice if the tabs were designed for removal, with a score line at the base of each tab or something like that. Also I'd prefer the option to close the under-pocket so it is just flush with the unit instead of open. I am glad it was free, because I wouldn't have been very pleased if I had to pay for it.
Pros: It fits.
Cons: Difficult to remove the unnecessary tabs.

Blackhawk Doc from maryville, TN on 4/3/2012
1999 Kia Sephia
Installing in a 99 sephia. Overall this is not a bad product. I rated it at two stars because of multiple problems resulting in items needing to be modified in addition to the already present breaking off tabs that you do not need for your specific vehicle. When all was dremeled it has a decent enough look and seems to hold my radio relatively well. Other then that I would have given this four stars had it worked correctly out of the bag reserving five stars for something that did not require me to break off multiple mounting tabs and that has a better visual apeal.
Pros: My radio has not fallen out yet. Radio sits flush.
Cons: Item did not fit and required multiple modifications. Mounting screws are too long for my radio even with provided spacers and would have contacted internal components prior to tightening.

I installed it on a 2004 Kia Spectra (old body) sedan. The radio sits farther back than the stock radio does. Does not give the radio a stock look. Sits so far back that there is a gap between the radio and the instrument panel.
Pros: It works at holding the radio in place.
Cons: Does not give the radio a finished or stock look.

I received this product from Crutchfield when purchasing a new stereo for a 2004 KIA Optima. I have used these products in the past and have never had a problem with fitting a stereo. This one was different, really different. I believe the problem is that this one was designed to be used in six different KIA vehicles and the directions included with this product are barely adequate at best. Once installed, the new stereo is recessed further into the dash than the stock radio was and definitely looks after market. If you are looking for a stock look for your vehicle, this product is not for you.

Fits OK, a little too pushed back
TomP from Syracuse NY on 4/8/2011
2004 Kia Optima
Used on my 04 Kia Optima. The kit comes with many extras/ tabs/mounts that allow the kit to fit many vehicles, and need to be removed by snapping off with pliers or slicing off as per your vehicles design (described in the manual). 1 of the 6 tabs that I had to pull off gave me 1 hour's worth of problems and another snapped too much of the plastic off, leaving me with 1 less latch. Once mounted, the CD player face is much deeper in the dash than the stock one, so now I must reach further forward to adjust volume, etc. It looks as though it is aftermarket (to a passenger, for example) and could probably blend in better by not being so recessed and hidden behind the dash flanges.
