Installation instructions were very vague and once I got it together. It was nowhere close to fitting in the dash. At least half an inch short on each side. Ended up using the stock mount and throwing this in the trash. 2002 eclipse rs

Complete trash of a dash kit. The screws supplied are just short enough to not work. Also had to re-drill the holes. I love Crutchfield and have used them for years but these dash kits they are supplying these days are garbage. I ordered to systems and both kits (for different vehicles) have been horrible. The other I'm having to replace because it simply doesn't fit after hours of modifying.

Pros: free eventually did get it to work

Cons: didn't assemble properly time consuming

American International MIT-K890 Dash Kit

Crutchfield customer from Morgan Hill, CA on 10/24/2017

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Verified employee review (What's this?)

The install ended up "OK". But it was challenging to get the Stereo into the plastic dash kit. There were small bumps at the corners, that required snapping the sides in a particular way, to get the side flat enough. Though not obvious from the pictures, I eventually figured this out. But even then it was not quite flat enough and was very tight to get the stereo into the Dash Kit plastic. I was worried about breaking some of the plastic. I had to pry the sides with a think knife as I pushed each side in a little. It eventually spread enough to push by the tight opening. Then, I had similar issues getting the plastic frame in the car space well. There were bumps to force the frame to be centered. But it seemed to push slightly to one side. Especially when pressed all the way into the dash hole for tightening the screws. There seemed to be something pushing it to the left as it was pushed in flush. I tried to find the obstruction and make adjustments, but it was not easy to see what was causing it. I had to mess with it a lot, but even after getting it in the best I could, I still had a hard time getting my Eclipse dash cover over the stereo right, and to click into place right. It was all a little rough, but I got it back together the best it would fit.

Great to have with my stereo this installation kit, of course depending on the particular car your installing in, you may have to modify and or remove a piece here or there on the installation kit, but it helps make the installation on the stereo unit much easier and looks more factory installed. I will definitely look to Crutchfield for my next auto stereo upgrade. Thank you Chance for all your help.

Works well but you are supposed to trim off extra pieces depending on what car you are using this kit for. I didn't remove anything and it still fit, albeit with a little bit of force, haha. Would rather have had a kit designed only for my car, but I don't think that's really possible these days.

Pros: ease of use

Cons: designed for too many car models, fits well, but not perfectly

The install kit work well with a little careful thought, don't rush it. The stock mounting bracket would have worked BUT it wouldn't work with the new units trim ring. The trim ring with the installation kit makes the whole job look very stock in appearance, where if I was to use the new units trim ring, cutting to the dash would have been necessary..

Pros: worked well

Cons: only really needed it for the trim ring

Instructions included with mounting bracket only somewhat helpful. Finally got it to work with a lot of trial and error and a little ingenuity. If you haven't installed a radio before, this one isn't for you. Pay to have it installed and save the frustration.

This kit was very hard for me to figure out. There's alot of parts and not enough instruction. I ended up snapping it in half trying to snap one of the tabs I think I was supposed to break off and had to go get one locally. Very disappointed. Usually parts from Crutchfield are very easy to pit in. Not so in this case. Maybe it was just my application but either way it wasn't an easy process.

Horrific Product, not up to normal Crutchfield standards

Matt from Illinois on 11/7/2011

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

Installed this into a friend's 2001 Eclipse and may I say this in dash kit is awful. While the kit works, it features no security measures and is flimsy. If I hadn't had a lot of experience working on installs, I'm sure I would have done something wrong in this installation. The instructions are terrible, without a clear sense of the order in which you should be doing things and the fit and finish of the parts is extremely sub-par. Having to remove tabs is ridiculous, especially when doing it accurately and very cleanly is vital to the install. Considering that this car's stock radio comes out in about 2 min with nothing but a philips screwdriver, you'd think that a aftermarket install kit would be easy to make, but apparently not. I will be removing this kit and fabricating a way to use the stock brackets. AWFUL, AWFUL kit.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Too many modifications, poor fitting, not a single security measure

It was specified in my order that I needed this kit. I didn't use a single piece of it to replace my stereo. I'm not even sure how it would have worked. The new stereo went in without much effort and all the pieces fit back together perfectly. Maybe for other car models or stereo models it is necessary, but for me, it was a waste of money and shipping.

I saw this was added to my order, and was surprised, so I emailed and asked if I needed this for my specific car and if I would not be able to install without it. I got a call back to discuss with me the kit, and again I asked very specifically if I absolutely need this kit for my car with the stereo I bought, and the answer was yes, you can't install without it. I installed without it, and without any trouble, friends it fit without any trouble.

Alan from Cincinnati, OH on 1/30/2010

This kit fits perfectly into my 1997 Eclipse. Installation was VERY easy and quick. My only complaint is that it is made of plastic. There are 4 places that screw into the car, and 2 were broken by the time I got it into my car. Because of this, the radio rattled over large bumps. Also, the radio was stolen soon after it was installed, and this bracket provided no resistance in that respect. The part that attaches to the radio is just a thin (1/4 in. diameter) piece of plastic running around it. I remedied this by soldering the new radio to the frame of the car. I have yet to find any other product of better quality, so I would recommend this, but if you are able to find anything that looks more substantial, go for it.

This kit made my install look like it was done by a professional stereo shop. I didn't know it was in the shipping box because I just pulled out the reciever box out and left everything else in the shipping box. After I was done installing the reciever, I went to install the rear speakers I had ordered also. That is when I discovered the stereo kit in the shipping box. I had to do some drilling and a lot of other work to get the reciever in the dash. The install looked like a just 'ok', mammy-jammy, okie rigged, made to fit install. After I discovered the kit, I removed everything and started from scratch. The kit made the install go a lot faster and look like it was done by a streo install professional. The front looks like one piece. I was very surprised by the ease and look of this kit.

Not very happy this with unit. The instructions were kind of vague, not too bad though. Didn't like all the plastic I had to cut away to make it fit well. Seems that the deck sits just a bit off from how it should, so I have to pull the deck down and left any time I remove the center console molding. Although, it does hold the unit rather well and firm, so I'm not entirely upset with this all over, plus it was free, can't complain too much. Neutral feeling.

Installation was relatively easy. The deck i bought had a USB attachment cord so I cut a hole in the back of the tray. That way I can just plug flash drives or whatever in right under the receiver. I just wish someone would come out with a kit for the eclipse's that allows you to use the trim ring supplied with aftermarket receivers.

This adapter does fit the 98 Eclipse Spyder I was putting it in; But if you don't have a hot knife you'll find that cutting the required pieces off will be quite a challenge without destroying it. Fortunately for me, I had access to a hot knife so it made life TONS easier. I also had to cut about a quarter inch off of both sides (left and right) of the faceplate that came with the Kenwood reciever I was replacing the original radio with, because it wouldn't fit otherwise. And without the faceplate, the installation looked terrible. The nice thing about the kit is, if you had the factory CD player under the radio, the factory CD player comes out and is replaced with a nice pocket to put stuff in like CD's...or trash, if that appeals to you...
