Great basic redo dash kit

Dash kit was easy to put together and perfectly covered up the extra open space left by the removal of my old unit. Kit was easy to install in dash and looks like it was always there.
Pros: Sturdy, quick to assemble and install.
Cons: 4 large extra plastic pieces that were not used for my application went into recycling and hopefully will be. Lots of waste if they get tossed down the line.

I ended up not using the dash kit. It was slightly larger than the opening.
Pros: Was easy to assemble.
Cons: The kit was approximately an 1\8 inch to wide. This caused the deck to bind when trying to insert it into the opening. I ended up using the original mounting bracket for the factory deck.

I needed an install kit for my 2002 Nissan Frontier XE as I was ditching the factory double DIN unit and going to a standard DIN. This was however was absolutely terrible. It wants you to cut tabs off for certain applications and the brackets it said were for my my application still didn't fit right. Plastic was too thick for the limited width available and then the tabs for the screws weren't long enough on one side . Poor engineering for the application

Pretty easy to use and figure out. However l feel so direction on this kit would have helped. Figuring out what pieces were for my Application was really the longest and most frustrating of the whole install process.
Pros: Fit and worked ok. Some minor trimming on my dash was needed for a perfect fit. Used a Dremel tool for the clearance needs.
Cons: No directions for this install kit. Of the entire install this kit was the most frustrating and trimming was needed in order for it to fit my application.

Doesn't fit so well in my 2003 Pathfinder SE (Bose). When installed, when I try to attach my trim plate to the dash, the adapter pushes it out so that I can't finish attaching the trim plate. I ended up ordering another "dash kit" adapter elsewhere. We will see if it fits better.

The tabs were hard to break off. I was worried I was doing something wrong because it only says "remove the XXXX tabs" from whichever din part you are using. A pair of pliers did the trick. The plastic sort of stretches and snaps right off, just make sure you're snapping the right ones off. The din was a little wide for my 1999 Pathfinder so I had to go in at an angle, but it fits perfectly!

These are nice little kits in that for a single DIN receiver you get this additional storage space. The kit is ok I suppose, but it's plastic so there's not too much to expect from it. My one criticism is that I wish the tabs that you need to break off in order to have the dash kit fit properly were easier to break off. I get it, it's cost savings to make a kit that fits up to 3 to 4 vehicle models, but those plastic tabs are so tough that it feels like there has to be a better way. Also, the kit I received isn't exactly like the kit I received 6 years ago so one of the screw holes was actually a bit off. In the end I had to accommodate it by stretching the screw hole entirely. When your receiver is connected to the dash kit it does feel a bit wobbly despite using all of the hardware provided. However, once installed in to the dash of your vehicle it sits nicely and doesn't move so I guess that's fine.
Pros:
Cons: feels cheap, custom vehicle tab break offs are too tough

I had to remove two of the tabs on the top and bottom that were set up for a Pathfinder configuration. The instructions were clear however I miss took them to think there was maybe a rubber cover over those tabs the way the picture was shown. Again it was stated clearly to remove the tabs and if I would have taken a little more time and use common sense I would have then that from the get-go. After removing the tabs everything went together just perfectly. So is nothing more than an operator error on my part. Maybe make it clearer for dummies like me and actually show a broken off tab. Again installation went flawlessly and perfectly thank you

There is an air gap there between the cubby and the dash trim piece. May be due to tight fit on the sides (side pressure causing the bottom lip to bow upward). I purchased a JVC CD Receiver 13 years ago from Crutchfield and installed it in my Mercury Grand Marquis. Well the time had come to reinstall it in a Nissan Frontier. I was blown away when I wrote my email to Crutchfield asking if it was possible if they could support me with all the necessary parts to accomplish this and Holly wrote back saying "No problem" and sent the list and prices of everything needed! Wow they really mean "Lifetime Support"!! I can say I've experienced it first hand now! I put in the order for the parts and the reinstall was a breeze like all of my installs have been using Crutchfield. I'm definitely a Crutchfield a customer "For Life"!

Waste of time for 2000 Xterra and Pioneer DEH-X3800UI Installation
Kirsten from Kirsten on 10/1/2016
2000 Nissan Xterra
This was a complete waste of time with my vehicle (2000 Nissan Xterra) and the radio I purchased (Pioneer DEH-X3800UI). It wasn't necessary. It wasn't easy to use or understand the two sets of instructions that came with it. And it wasted about 1.5 hours of my time til I just said "Screw it!" and went without doing a DIN installation of the stereo. I pulled the old radio out of it's factory housing, checked the holes to the old housing to the new stereo (a perfect match!) and used the screws included with the stereo. It was free kit so I wasn't out any money. And Crutchfield won't be getting it back because I trashed it, trying to get it to work on the first attempt. Now it's in the recycling bin.
Pros: recyclable if you do get it anyway free
Cons: Instructions suck!

It works, but not great
Timothy J. from Philadelphia, PA on 7/8/2016
2004 Nissan Frontier
I used this kit to install a standard DIN receiver in my 2004 Nissan Frontier King Cab, replacing the double DIN OEM unit. The instructions were pretty decent to modify the enclosed parts for my truck (but most of the parts in the bag are for other Nissans, and just have to be thrown away). Once everything was put together the entire assembly did not fit in the dash well; as another reviewer said, I had to file out the mounting holes on the right side to an ovoid shape to get it to fit. Once the dash was back together the only parts of the kit that show are a small binnacle (nice) and a rough strip of plastic above it (not so nice). Also, there is no provision for a support for the rear of the unit (either in the kit or as part of the car) that the Kenwood installation instructions recommended. If I had to do it again I would probably buy a double DIN receiver which would have just involved swapping the mounting brackets from the old radio.
Pros: got the job done
Cons: poor fit, rough appearance once installed, lots of wasted parts

Not needed for 2000 Nissan Frontier
Mark F from Erie, PA on 11/30/2013
2000 Nissan Frontier
This came with the wiring harness and JVC KD-X250BT I ordered. Luckily I did some extra research and found out that the OEM hardware was all that was needed, and would be easier to use, and look better, than using this kit. Now my new stereo is installed with a perfect fit/look, and this item ended up in the trash. I will note that the preceding is true for factory radios that are single DIN. If you have a double DIN you need to replace you will either need to find the factory parts (pocket and trim) for a single DIN, or use this kit. This kit is probably the less expensive way to go, but getting the OEM parts will probably be easier and look better.
Pros: None. I didn't need or use this.
Cons: OEM mounting hardware is actually better for replacing a single DIN stereo in a 2000 Nissan Frontier (and the 2000 Xterra too).

Cheap and you have to do a lot of cutting to make it fit. This makes it versitle but if you make a mistake and cut it wrong you are sunk. Thankfully their instructions on cutting it are fairly clear and that helps you get it right. I still had to make some small adjustments with a drimmel tool to make it fit. Without this however you would be stuck trying to make adaptor pieces yourself.
Pros: Gets the job done.
Cons: Won't fit perfectly but lots better than making your own adaptor pieces.

Not Appropriate for Nissan Pathfinder
FT from Connecticut on 8/23/2012
2003 Nissan Pathfinder SE
I gave this one star because it probably is possible to get a 1U head unit to stay in the dash of 96 to 04 Pathfinder with this kit, but I would not recommend it. I gave it a good try, but after half an hour I decided that it was unacceptable due to poor design and that I needed a different installation strategy. I ultimately purchased a Scosche "Replacement 1U Nissan Pocket" from a different Vendor and reused the Nissan OEM steel brackets and ended up with a very nice professional looking installation in my 2003 Pathfinder.
Pros: It was free with the order for a 1U head unit. I would have been really upset if I had paid good money for this.
Cons: Set up for 96 to 04 Pathfinder is very flimsy and does not provide solid support. Even when installed per instructions there are very noticable gaps between the head unit and the pocket to the OEM center console bezel. Also the kit instructions do not mention that by using these plastic mounts you will loose chassis ground, so if you end up using this kit you should run an independant ground wire from the head unit to the vehicle frame.

Right price, it was free.

2002 Nissan Pathfinder
Crutchfield gave me the kit when I bought my unit. It was nice of them so can't complain. It did fit nicely but needed modification. Had to remove some tabs and drill a hole for a small knob in the dash. The original mounting had the hole already.
Pros: Fit nicely and looks fine. Nice space below the top din.
Cons: Cheaply made. Doesn't set in far enough for my car so the dash panel doesn't lie as flat as it once did but you would never notice it unless you are chcking and looking for fit. It is so cheap that the price seems way out of line. You couldn't buy a better one anywhere. You couldn't by the same one for a lot less so if you need the cheap thing best to get it from Crutchfield where they give it to you with your order so you don't have to pay for cheap plastic.

American International ND-K717 Dash Kit
Crutchfield customer from Phoenix, AZ on 6/15/2012
2001 Nissan Frontier
Did not fit at all in a 2001 Nissan Frontier; the upper edge overlapped the non-removable vehicle dash with no way to correct it short of (possibly) sawing a large piece of the mount off which would have looked terrible. I ended up reusing the existing mount from the factory receiver without any problems.

easy install- 00 Xterra
Paul from Va on 4/4/2012
2000 Nissan Xterra
Crutchfield could not have made this job any easier. Just follow the instructions, and you will have an install that looks like it came from the factory. The install kit, which is made for numerous Nissan's, has different parts that are clearly marked to let you choose the ones that you need for your particular vehicle. I purchased a Dual single DIN HD CD/Receiver, wiring kit and dash install kit for my 2000 Xterra. The time from opening the box to being complete with the install was just over an hour, and that was really taking my time. The instructions were so simple and easy to understand, I could have probably handed the job off to my 10 year old. Crutchfield is that on-point. The finished install looks like it was done by a professional, and the install kit is constructed of well made, well fitting materials. No trimming, adjusting, or modifying of my vehicle was necessary. It all just bolted in, just as advertised. I would and will highly recommend Crutchfield to my friends.
Pros: Solid construction of the install kit, well written instructions, and all necessary parts to complete the job.
Cons: None!

2000 Frontier 4 door - tight fit
A. Sherman from Illinois on 4/2/2012
2000 Nissan Frontier
dash kit was just slightly too big. I was able to pull the dash opening apart and cram it into place, but this caused the plastic to warp slightly, making it look cheap. My guess is that the tolerances on the kit were just slightly off, as were the tolerances on my dash.
Pros: functional, easy to understand instructions to modify for the vehicle
Cons: just slightly too big. perfectionists will need to get out a dremel and go to work on their dash :)

No real alternative so it serves it's purpose. Nothing special.
Pros: Helps mount unit, Like having the compartment below the radio for remote control or iPod.
Cons: The panels parts labeled 'pathfinder' did not fit my car, I had to use the Xterra, The left panel did not have the necessary anchor hole in it, so I had to either break the nipple or drill a hole in the new panel. I drilled a hole to accomodate.

It looked like it was professionally done
moe from Shakopee, MN on 3/12/2012
Excellent product. The instructions could not have been any clearer. When I was done installing my stereo, it looked like it was professionally done. Very clean and neat. Excellent fit. There were parts that needed to be cut, but I found out that the plastic was soft enough that I could cut it with metal snips. The snips probably did a better job than the recommended saws would have.
Pros: Excellent fit, Very clean and neat look.
Cons: Have to break off or cut some parts. These extra things were there to fit other vehicles. Overall, it wasn't very hard to remove them, but it could be intimidating to someone, and if you don't do it right, you could potentially ruin it.

Directions were clear. Mounting kit and radio fit well except that the radio protruded a slight amount too for forward. I had to use a rasp to remove some material from the factory bezel in order for the upper bezel clips to seat properly. I think that this was caused by the Sony face plate design.

It fits, but not very solid.
YYM from New Haven, CT on 4/8/2011
I used this kit to mount a third-party Kenwood KDC-X395 radio receiver to my Nissan Pathfinder 2001. Good: The kit fits the Kenwood receiver very well, and it was very easy to install. Bad: 1) it does not hold the radio very tight, I don't know whether it is the problem of radio or the mount kit. 2) the mount kit is basically a frame plus two adapters to mount the frame in position. The adapters are mount on the frame by only one screw each. I'm just worried for such a heavy thing (frame + radio) how long the mount kit can last. Overall, it did the job, and easy to use but too much plastic and so few screws give it an unstable feeling.

Everything was well marked and documented. I found the correct adapters and used my Dremel to cut off some extra tabs on the Nissan Universal kit and it went in nice and easy. If you have hand polished burl walnut trim, the ABS plastic won't look good. In an 02 Frontier, it looks just fine.

Useless for Pathfinder install
Crutchfield customer from Austin, TX on 9/8/2010

Bought this kit, but ended up not using it. Probably because it's a universal kit, the HU opening is shifted down and the pocket is very small. Securing the HU mounting sleeve to the kit is sketchy at best and there is no option to directly mount it since there are no screw holes.

Nissan In-dash Receiver Kit review
BigTufGuy from Gloversville, NY on 10/27/2009
Does what it is suppose to do. Not the most sturdy dash kit I have seen but it is made of plastic. One word of caution, If you are using this with a Dual XHD 7714, you will need to be handy with a dremel tool to modify the lower portion of the trim ring so you can open the face of the cd receiver.

A little bit of work and reading but it works
Joe from Scottsdale, AZ on 6/1/2009
2002 Nissan Xterra
I used this on my 2002 Nissan Xterra. It comes with a ton of adapters and pieces since it works on a bunch of Nissan vehicles. The instructions aren't as clear as I think they could be. It took me a decent amount of reading to understand what pieces I was supposed to be using and how everything went together. The install for the Xterra also requires you to cut 2 of the plastic pieces. The piece is angled and there isn't really a good tool for this application. That being said, once I had everything done the unit fit pretty well (putting all of the trim pieces back on snugs it up). It matches the factory trim well and looks good. The 'assembly' took about 25 - 30 minutes. I would dock it 1 star for the instructions and cutting required, but since Crutchfield includes this for free, it's tough to complain.

The installation is a pain. You have to go through and cut through plastic to make it fit. Then the screws on the back to hold the bracket on slightly stripped out the plastic making the fit not as great as it could be. Once installed though, it looks good and functions well.

Brady from houston,tx on 1/27/2009
When I ordered the radio I was told the truck absolutely needed the installation kit, which then changed which radio I bought. I did not order the radio I wanted because of the huge price difference. My truck did not need the kit at all. I don't know how aftermarket radios fit in your Nissan but my '01 Frontier used the factory bracket perfectly. Now I've got a radio I don't care for and an unused dash bracket. Not happy.

Overall, I'm impressed with the quality and fit with this adapter kit. There was locating pin in the upper right that the kit did not provide a hole for, and I had to drill a clearance hole in the plastic bracket. Also the lower pocket does not allow the DIN bracket retaining features to be bent down very much. But, it works, it looks pretty good, and that's all that matters!

This is a great product. I ordered a CD receiver and they threw this into the deal for free. It couldn't have been easier to install in my 2001 Xterra. Just attach the appropriate brackets for your make of Nissan, remove a few tabs and it screws right in to the vehicle. I had to remove 6 tabs to install it and I just used pliers to break them off. With this kit it literally took me about 1/2 an hour to install my new receiver (not including the time it took to solder up the wiring harness - which was also free). When it was all done it looked flawless and I felt like a pro. I have to say that throwing this and the harness into my order is a great value-add and it's made me a Crutchfield customer for as long as they keep up the good customer service. A great product from a great company. Cheers!

This being my first installation, I was a little hesitant to believe the directions. Being in a technical field, I thought "I know better than anything written" so I was very cautious along the way, checking fit and line up before I cut the tabs the instructions told me to cut. Man, was I nervous, but this thing was NO PROBLEM! The fit was snug (again, made me nervous at first), but it fits and doesn't rattle or wiggle. For all you first timers out there, don't sweat it. This thing is a breeze. I also found that the Crutchfield directions on how to get into the dash and the radio housing was better than the $120 factory manual I have for the vehicle! Way to go guys! I will never hesitate to shop here again.
