This is one of the most versatile installation kits I've ever come across...not only did it work for the Scion xB, but the instructions showed the other vehicles that it worked for which means this kit covers over 10 different vehicles and 2-3 different types of stereos that would be installed. Great job!!!

Pros: Almost factory looks Easy to install Detailed Instructions
Cons: I could not fit the factory radio cover as it open and closes to cover it up, is in there just to cover the hole...

I got this for a 2004 Scion. B, so I understand that there are not a lot of options out there for a car of this age. It is made for a variety of Toyota models, so you have to cut off the appropriate tabs to make it fit it your model. This was difficult to do and did risk causing damage to the kit, but you have to live with it. Any messy cuts are hidden after install. The unit was also about an eighth of an inch too small at the bottom, leaving a slight visible gap after install. Would still recommend it as it is pretty much your only choice.
Pros: Fits the vehicle
Cons: Slightly off size Difficult to cut tabs to make it fit

Yes, it works, but...
Crutchfield customer from Everett, WA on 10/10/2017
2006 Scion xB
This worked. Frankly, it took a LOT of additional work & mess to get to the point where I was ready to start installing the head unit. Multiple tabs have to removed, and you better cut them (because trying to break them off will very likely break the parts you need intact as the platic used is thin and not very rigid) and then have a moto tool or something to sand off the remainder. The faceplate never fit my head unit (a common & popular Pioneer model) leaving an ugly gap, but I was able to snap it lightly over the face of my head unit, though that meant not being able to utilize removing the removable faceplate. I am shocked - and shocked is the word - at the waste of plastic as the manufacturer includes side plates for just about any install you can think of when you only need two. You get this BIG bag of plastic parts and wind up throwing nearly all of it away - incredibly wasteful. Functionally...yeah, it all works, but wow, between the waste and the grinding mess to make it work I would think that American International needs to re-consider how they package their product and how to make it more end-user friendly.
Pros: Eventually does the job.
Cons: Requires extensive modifications (in my vehicle, at any rate) Huge waste of unneeded parts. Faceplate didn't fit my very popular head unit.

I give this product three stars because it does exactly what it needs to do and nothing more. The directions are not super clear but you will eventually figure it out. I thought removing the pieces that I didn't need would be difficult but it wasn't that bad. Just take a razor blade or utility knife and score both sides of the plastics pegs several times and they just snap right off. I never figured out how to lock the radio into the device but it fits snug enough that I'm not worried about it falling out. I removed another star because the plastic tray area is kind of warped but I didn't pay anything for the kit so I'm not to worried.
Pros: Strong Plastic, Durable, free
Cons: Plastic warped in areas, Directions are hard to understand

At least it was free...
Rick from Salt Lake City, UT on 9/8/2016
2005 Scion xB
It fit in my dash, but with a couple of caveats: 1. It's made of really thin plastic, so it's flimsy. I worry that the heat will eventually warp it and it will need to be replaced. 2. Because it's designed to be compatible with a few different cars, it's got about 10 or so plastic tabs that you'll have to saw off. Be careful and don't saw off the ones you need!
Pros: 1. It was free! 2. Has a tray where I can store my phone while driving and streaming music
Cons: 1. Flimsy, thin plastic 2. Not easy to get ready to install, due to have ing to saw off many extra tabs. If you try and break the tabs off, you'll break the whole bracket. (see number one)

Materials OK Instructions almost worthless
Robert M. from Montgomery, AL on 6/23/2016
2007 Scion tC
The kit came with parts for several Scion models. Instructions only helped identify which parts I needed for my tC. Had to figure out myself how the parts hooked together which wasn't hard and seems somewhat secure. Could've been improved by using screws. Didn't even mention what to do with retractable radio cover housing. No part to cover large gap if you remove the cover. Took several tries before I figured out to first slide cover housing over unit before putting whole thing back into dash. No way to secure cover housing to dash kit but during test drive didn't hear any rattling from that area so I guess it's OK. Main benefit was that I could install a single DIN into a double DIN space and gave me a useful tray under my stereo unit.
Pros: Does work, parts fit together pretty well. Also included necessary screws. Can install a single DIN into a double DIN space and get a useful tray under unit
Cons: Definitely step down from stock metal brackets to plastic that could be stronger Instructions only helpful identifying which parts to use for your car model

The kit worked quite well, it fits a multitude of Toyota vehicles, the directions, and peices provided, worked awesome, I did not cut any of the extra tabs off till I had removed the unit to be replaced, I found that the tabs were easier to remove by scoring the plastic with a utility knife and snapping the peices to be removed at the score line, the unit was installed and working in less than 20 minutes, using this kit.
Pros: Well thought out, high quality, looks great.
Cons: None

Good Fit
Johnny5 from Bothell, WA on 6/10/2014

Ended up fitting really well in my '06 Scion xB. Only reason it got 4 (and not 5) stars is that the instructions could have been clearer as to which tabs to cut off of the mount so that it would fit properly. There where two extra pieces to cut off that were not highlighted as needing to be cut off in order to fit into the 06 xB. Still quite happy though. It's a tight fit. Looks tight, feels tight, is tight.
Pros: Tight! Clean! Correct brackets lined up for easy and precise attachment.
Cons: Had to cut off more brackets than instructions stated. I survived. ; )

I bought this kit to install a Pioneer DEH-3400UB Stereo for a 2007 Scion tC. As another 07 tC reviewer mentioned, the only adjustment I had to make was snap off the two plastic pieces on both sides of the main bezel. That's the only way the hvac panel could fit again. Other than that, great product given its cost.
Pros: -Albeit the pieces that need to be broken off, it fits perfectly. -Instructions for 2007 tC in particular were straightforward. -Fairly priced.
Cons: -Plastic material feels flimsy, but isn't a concern since it won't be constantly handled. -Have to snap plastic pieces off for it to fit.

Tricky
KikiNOLA from New Orleans, LA on 7/22/2012
2004 Scion xB
These kits are good in theory, I guess. The parts are customized by breaking off plastic tabs. But for my installation, in a 2004 Scion XB, one of the tabs was on an extension that seemed to be less sturdy than the tab itself. I had to take the tab off gradually with a keyhole saw, and when I was finished, the extension didn't seem too sturdy. The DIN sleeve was supposed to be held in place by bending metal tabs, but they didn't want to hold against the plastic, so the installation didn't feel too solid -- I might take it out and drill holes through the plastic so I can screw it in. The kit comes with way more pieces than you actually use, and there's no indication whether the plastic is recyclable. Customizing the brackets without breaking the pieces ended up taking more time than attaching the wiring harness to the head.

Scion install kit
Sig from Logan, Ohio on 3/14/2012
The kit is for many Scion and Toyota vehicles and has several pieces to it. Once the instructions are reviewed and the correct pieces are selected for your vehicle, it will assemble with no problem. There are several mounting tabs molded on the parts and the ones not needed have to be removed before installing the kit into the dash. After checking the diagram and also comparing the kit to the stock stereo (removed from the car), it was clear which tabs were necessary to remove. After installation is complete, the appearance and fit is just like the stock stereo. No perimeter gaps to the trim panels. Overall, a good kit.
Pros: Fit and finish is good. The kit screws into the dash without any issues and all of the vehicle trim panels line up to the kit for a good appearance.
Cons: No cons stand out for this kit. Allow some extra time to trim the mounting tabs that are not needed, but other than that, no problems.

Good Kit for Scion xA
Caprice from Bronx, NY on 2/17/2012
2004 Scion xA
This kit was really easy to assemble and install, I see what everyone mean by the instructions not showing you all the tabs that had to removed but nothing a small cut with a blade and the press of a thumb couldn't handle. My only headache was getting the radio sleeve in, that thing is tight but thats a good thing so the radio is in pretty snug.
Pros: Looks clean and is very secure.
Cons: I would say be wary of the head unit's sleeve, could be a little tight and the dash trim it came with was too thick for my stereo (kept jamming the flip out screen) so you may want to use the one your Head Unit came with.

scion xb 2005 pros: IT FITS! cons: The instructions for breaking off parts is not complete. You have to break off 2 extra pieces at the bottom. Just try to install it the way they have it explained, it will not fit. You will see which ones are blocking the way at the bottom. Cut them off. The higher 2 that seems to be blocking can actually stay in there. They fit if you push it through. And seem to stabilize the unit. I used a garden rose stem cutter to break off the pieces. It would be 4 stars if they instructions for breaking off pieces were complete. It would be 5 stars if we didn't have to break off pieces in the first place. :D
Pros: scion xb 2005 pros: IT FITS!
Cons: scion xb 2005 cons: it doesn't fit unless you break off 2 pieces that are not mentioned in the instructions.

Too many widgets on this multifunction tool?
JoeB from Tallahassee, FL on 2/8/2011
2005 Scion xB
After 6 or 8 car stereo purchases that went without a hitch, this one kinda stumped me! I always read the instructions thoroughly before starting, and still had problems with this one. The kit comes with a main unit with a bunch of connection tabs on it. You have to remove the ones that are not needed. The kit comes with a little instruction booklet that tells you what tabs to remove depending on what car you have. My dumb - I didn't notice that the car ino was at the top of the page. Kept looking at all the options and saying "Which one?" Kept going back for a table of contents or something. Nada. Finally called Crutchfield and the guy was really nice in the way he said to use the option with my car type printed at the top. My duh! So, I did what the booklet said, got all involved in the install, and lo and behold, two more tabs had to be removed. And they were ornery! I ended up having to get out my Dremel tool to get them off. Like I said, 6 or 7 times this was no problem. Don't know why this one was.

Instructions are incorrect. Product does not fit right
Dragonboats from Seattle, Wa on 2/6/2011
2005 Scion xB
First of all, the instructions and diagrams do not fit the product, making it impossible to determine which tabs to clip off. The plastic case also does not match that of the stock stereo, so it took a lot of trial and error to determine how to use it. Unless you are very mechanically inclined, this will cause you lots of difficulties. Also, after installation on the 2005 Scion xb, you can see that the case does not fully fill the space left by the stock stereo.

However, I only give it four stars because I did not like having to break off certain parts of the plastic because one wrong break and the whole thing would have been useless.
