This is great in that it fills space from the OEM model and it creates a little pocket above the radio which is quite handy. It wasn't quite made for the 2003 Suzuki Aerio model we had so we had to make some modifications to the dash cover and forego using the face plate on the pocket.

My Volvo Install
Stan from Charleston, SC on 9/2/2020

This actually worked better than I expected. I replaced a double DIN factory head unit with a single DIN unit and this pocket. Initially, I had the head unit in bottom, and the pocket up top. Couldn't get it to snap into place and stay. I found the head unit too low, so I swapped places. When I pulled the pocket out, the mounting 'ears' fell off. I had broken off the middle 'tooth' of the 'ears', according to instructions for Volvo. I put a dab of hot glue on the 'ears', let it dry, and then stuck the pocket back in the hole. Eureka! It snapped solidly in place, and can only be removed by prying with a screwdriver. Great place to stick my sunglasses, phone, wallet, whatever...
Pros: Free!!

Cheap junk. Went to put face plate on to install and the pins that hold faceplate snapped off. Now the bin is worthless. Waste of money. Happened to two that would possibly fit. The other is too small and off no use anyway. If I could give negative stars, I would

Does exactly what it says it will do which is fill in a din sized space with a pocket for storage. Only reason for four starts and not 5 is I wish the mounts were not made of plastic. Very basic, it fits the opening. I decided to improve it by bonding the shell halves together, putting thin foam insulation between the face plate and shell, and gluing thin felt in the interior. The foam insulation makes the mount to the dash opening tighter and prevents rattles. The felt in the interior trims it nicely, keeps any objects I put into it from rattling, and provides some damping of any vibration.
Pros: Fits the dash opening and easy to install. It was easy to upgrade as described in my review and now the unit has a much higher quality feel.
Cons: Snap together fit doesn't seem very positive.

Very happy that I was able figure out how to make this work. I replaced the stock double din head unit in a 2000 Mercedes ML320 with a single din kenwood kdcx399 and needed this to fill in the space left over. There are two sets of brackets that come with this and I was able to add the ones without screw holes and push it into place. The unit snapped in and holds pretty well for not having any screws. I then pushed the din sleeve metal pieces into the top of the accessory box and it worked pretty well.
Pros: -Universal fit -Only a hmm gap on each side after completed install
Cons: Instructions are pretty bad..youre on your own with this kit for the most part

Din Pocket for 1976 Ford Bronco
Bill T. from Flagstaff, AZ on 10/8/2014
1976 Ford Bronco
The stereo in my Bronco never worked so I removed it. I was looking for a blank-off plate or a pocket/cubby to fill the hole in my dash and came across this product. I wasn't sure if it would work with a 1976 Bronco but I figured if the stereo fit securely that this should fit similarly. I had to leave the stereo mounting sleeve (the thin sheet metal box with the tabs that you bend to secure it to the dash) for the product to fit securely. Took a bit of time to figure out the best way to install, but in the end it fits well and is secure.
Pros: Fits well and is secure.
Cons: Instructions are a little weak. It comes with two different sets of mounting brackets and a handful of bezels. Depending on your application you have to figure out what combination will work. You can't just install this product into a hole in your dash, you will need to have a mounting sleeve or something for it to fit into.

I used this in a 1991 Saab 900, in the lower single-DIN slot where the stock Clarion equalizer goes (I had a Pioneer 6-disc changer there that failed). Crutchfield's list does not include the Saab 900 for this part, so when I ordered it, the order automatically says "will not fit your car." Fortunately, it is "universal" enough: it fits, although the bezel left too much of the existing DIN sleeve exposed. I used the bezel from the old Pioneer unit and some black Sharpie ... and it does what it's supposed to and looks fine.

I think this is an excellent product that makes use of otherwise wasted space. It makes the area look like it has a purpose instead of a missing option, like a plain blank plate.
Pros: Comes with more than one bezel for a variety of openings. Does the job and looks great.
Cons: The only problem is the system seems to be designed for only one thickness of the dash. If the dash is thin, it will be loose. You may have to make a shim gasket for a tight fit. The reason for 4 and not 5 stars.

This worked great in both of my 2000 mustangs. I put new stereos in and used the old bracket from the old stereo. It just snapped right into the bracket. Very easy. I had to modify the outside frame a little but was very easy. You just take a lighter and melt the four little plastic nubs on the sides and then cut off with a razor knife. Then I used some super strong adhesive and glued it on. Looks great!

Looks Better Than a Hole In The Dash, Barely
Rachael from N. Seattle, WA on 5/7/2013
As others have said, unit doesnt fit very well in Ford DIN holes. Needs a little filler behind front bezel to keep from rattling. Used a little felt glued around the edges to snug up the fit. Was forewarned by the Advisor about this fact. Bezel is rather ugly and doesnt fit with the aesthetic of the rest of the interior. But better than a hole in the dash. Will be looking for a OEM replacement.
Pros: * Better than a hole in the dash
Cons: * Bezel is rather ugly and doesnt fit with the aesthetic of the rest of the interior * Requires modification to work well with Ford DIN holes

Our 2000 Mustang has a separate receiver and cd deck installed from the factory. We put in a new Kenwood Stereo from Crutchfield and it fit great. But, where the cd deck was removed it left a hole where you could see into the dash and view the wires. This universal DIN pocket was the perfect answer. It covers the hole nicely plus allows a great place to put your Ipod while hooked up to the reciever. The fit was pretty good, just a little loose. We slid some thin gasket material, with a little black silicone smeared on, and placed them on the top and bottom of the pocket. This allowed the fit to be tight with no rattles.
Pros: The handy tray looks great and nicely took care of the hole left where the CD deck was removed. No modifications required to fit.
Cons: Instructions and pictures where rather vague but could figure it out. The fit was a little loose but not too bad considering it is a universal pocket.

Confusing description
Dave F. from Philadelphia PA on 11/16/2010
The description is a little confusing. I ordered this for a custom application where there is no aftermarket radio adapter (88 Buick Reatta). I ordered this kit because I thought it was a universal DIN radio mounting pocket but it's not. It's a pocket that takes up the extra space in a dash that had an original radio that is bigger than a DIN. It is way too small to put a DIN radio in to. When I opened the package and looked at the instructions, I found that it is not even universal, it is made for specific applications. I still may be able to use it to take up some extra space under the radio, but I will still have to find something to hold the radio in the dash. It was cheap enough to take the chance to see if it would work, but i wouldn't have even ordered it if I had known, or if the sales rep. had told me what it was.

Just what it looks like
Jon from Indiana on 8/19/2009
2000 Ford Mustang
This worked good in my 2k Mustang. The pocket is made of top and bottom sections which can separate. This makes it easy to add ipod / aux wires which lead from your head unit. Since you can drill a hole where the two pieces meet, then pull the wire through before assembly, it's easy to create a hole that your connector can't slip back through when installed. Put the front of the box on first, then install the side rails. This eluded me for a bit. My box fit well, but didn't fit tightly. It rattled a bit until I shimmed it with some cardboard.
