Sleek, powerful streaming amp
Sleek, powerful streaming amp
Just add your favourite passive speakers to the Bose Music Amplifier for fantastic streaming audio.
Bose's Music Amplifier gives you access to your favourite streaming music sources with easy control from an app on your smartphone. And it has 125 watts x 2 channels on tap for driving up to two pairs of passive speakers. You can also connect more traditional digital and analog sources and even make this amp part of a Bose multi-room sound system.
Install it out of the way or allow its elegant glass-topped design to shine on your tabletop. Either way, you'll get fantastic Bose sound.
Wireless options
You'll connect this amp to your home network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Then you can stream to it using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi with the Bose Music app. You can also use the app to connect to compatible Bose speakers and sound bars for multi-room streaming. Apple AirPlay 2 and Chromecast built-in give you even more options for whole-house audio, allowing you to connect to older Bose SoundTouch products and compatible speakers and components from other brands.
If you want voice control of the Music Amplifier, you'll need to connect a Bose smart speaker/soundbar (or other virtual assistant) that has Amazon Alexa and Google Voice Assistant onboard.
Flexible wired connections
The Music Amplifier has digital and analog inputs that let you connect your favourite sources — even a turntable with a phono preamp. Want more bass? You can connect a Bose Bass Module 500 or 700 to the subwoofer output.
This amp comes with a bracket for wall- or rack-mounting, and you can daisy-chain multiple amps together and control them from the first amp. You can also pass your Ethernet connection on through the amp using its Ethernet output.

125W x 2Ch Amplifier: The Bose Music Amplifier is rated at 125 watts x 2 channels into 8 ohms from 20Hz to 20kHz with no more than 0.1% THD. The stereo amplifier is 4 ohm stable, so you can power a single pair of 4 ohm loudspeakers or up to two pair of 8 ohm loudspeakers.
- The Bose Music Amplifier is considered a single zone with one or two pair of speakers connected, and will always power each speaker and play the same audio source simultaneously.
- If two pairs of speakers are connected, it is recommended that they be the same type of speaker. Both pairs will get the same EQ applied.
Amplifier Settings: The Bose Music Amplifier is equipped with four dip-switches (labeled A, B, C, D) on the rear-panel that offer advanced amplifier settings.
- Main/Supplemental: The "A" dip-switch lets you set the amplifier to Main or Supplemental. The Main setting allows you to connect the amplifier to your network over a wireless or wired connection using the Bose Music app. The Supplemental setting allows you to use the Bose Music Amplifier as a secondary amplifier and daisy-chain to another Bose Music Amplifier via a stereo RCA line-level connection.
- Stereo/Mono: The "C" dip-switch lets you choose between Stereo or Mono operation. Use Stereo when you speakers closer together in the same room. Mono is best when you have speakers far apart in the same room or different rooms.
- Variable/Fixed: The "D" dip-switch can be used to select between Variable or Fixed volume for the Bose Music Amplifier's line-level output. The Variable setting allows you to use the Bose Music app to adjust the volume output level, while the Fixed setting allows you to control the volume output level for the connect source device.
- Future Use: The "B" dip-switch is reserved for future use (no ETA).
Speaker EQ Settings: There are three "Speaker Setting" dip-switches (labeled 1, 2, 3) that allow you to apply customized EQ settings for the Bose 251 Environment Speakers and Bose Virtually Invisible 791 speakers (sold separately), or a flat EQ setting for all other brands and models of passive loudspeakers. Over time, additional Bose EQs may be added. See Owner's Manual for exact dip-switch positioning.
Analog & Digital Audio Inputs: The Bose Music Amplifier is outfitted with both an analog stereo RCA input and a optical (toslink) digital input for connecting an external audio source device. The optical (toslink) digital input supports 2ch PCM audio (up to 24-bit/96kHz).
- A separate phono preamp or a turntable with a built-in preamp (both sold separately) is required for connection of a record player.
- The optical (toslink) digital input does not support Dolby Digital, DTS, or other multichannel surround formats.
Built-in Bluetooth 4.2: The Bose Music Amplifier offers built-in support for wireless audio playback (A2DP) and control (AVRCP), plus the option to stream the same audio from the Bose Music Amplifier to a single Bluetooth-enabled Bose noise canceling headphone or Bose SoundLink speaker via SimpleSync technology and the Bose Music App.
- Bluetooth Audio Streaming: With built-in Bluetooth, the Bose Music Amplifier can wirelessly play back stored music, music apps, and other audio content from your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. You can pair eight Bluetooth source devices to the speaker, but only one can be actively connected and used for playback at a time. Music control and song/artist/album information display will be done from your connected Bluetooth source device. The amplifier has a Bluetooth wireless range of approximately 30'.
- Bose SimpleSync: Bose SimpleSync allows you to pair a member of the Bose Home Speaker family (such as the Music Amplifier) with a single Bose SoundLink portable Bluetooth speaker or a Bose noise canceling headphone (all sold separately - see Accessories Tab) for playback of the same audio signal. Use the Bose Music app on your Apple iOS or Android device to setup and enable SimpleSync. SimpleSync then provides a one-to-one connection for a maximum of two Bose products (the Music Amplifier and a SoundLink speaker or noise canceling headphone). The two products must remain within typical Bluetooth wireless range (30') of each other to stay connected. You'll be able to listen to the same audio signal from the Music Amplifier on a connected Bose SoundLink speaker or noise canceling headphone (you cannot listen to different sources). You can choose to listen on both the Music Amplifier and the SoundLink speaker or noise canceling headphone at the same time with independent volume control; or just one speaker or the headphone.
Euroblock Speaker Output Terminals: The Bose Music Amplifier includes two detachable 4-pin euroblock speaker output terminals that can be used to connect one pair of 4 ohm loudspeakers or up two pair of 8 ohm loudspeakers. The Euroblock speaker terminals will accept 18AWG to 14AWG bare speaker wire (not compatible with banana plugs, spade lugs, or pin connectors).
- Use 18AWG speaker wire for wire runs up to 30'.
- Use 16AWG speaker wire for wire runs up to 45'.
- Use 14AWG speaker wire for wire runs up to 70'.
Minijack Sub Output: The Bose Music Amplifier features a proprietary stereo minijack sub output for connection of a Bose Bass Module (including the Bose Bass Module 700 or Bass Module 500 - sold separately). The proprietary stereo minijack sub output is equipped with a fixed low-pass crossover filter specifically designed for the Bass Module 700 or 500.
- A stereo 3.5mm minijack audio cable (sold separately) is required for connection. The cable should not be more than 15'.
- The Bose Music Amplifier does not support wireless connectivity to the Bass Module 700 or 500.
- The proprietary stereo minijack sub output cannot be used with other brands and models of powered subwoofers.
Stereo Line-Level Output: The stereo RCA line-level output allows you to daisy-chain multiple Bose Music Amplifiers by connecting the stereo RCA line-level output of the "Main" Bose Music Amplifier to the stereo RCA input of a "Supplemental" Bose Music Amplifier(s). You can connect up to a total of five amplifiers (1 Main / 4 Supplemental). The stereo RCA line-level output is full-range and can be set to a Variable or Fixed volume level.
- Supplements amplifiers only support audio playback from its stereo RCA line-level input that is daisy-chained to the Main amplifier.
- Supplemental amplifiers play the same audio as the Main amplifier and do not display on your network or the Bose Music app on your mobile device.
Overload Protection: The amplifier's overload protection feature automatically reduces maximum power output to prevent the amplifier from getting too hot. This may occur when the amplifier plays at high volume for a long duration or if it is installed in a location with limited ventilation. Full maximum output automatically returns as the amplifier cools down.
Mounting & Placement Options: The Bose Music Amplifier can be table-top, wall, or rack mounted. The included brackets and hardware allow for wall and rack mounting. The amp mounts vertically on the wall. Two amps can be placed side-by-side in a rack.
- For optimum performance, place the amplifier in a well-ventilated area; do not place the amplifier in a completely enclosed area.
- Keep the rear-panel of the amplifier at least 3" to 6" away from any other surface, so not to block airflow from the back of the amplifier.
- To avoid interference, keep other wireless equipment 1' to 3' away from the amplifier.
Note: The Bose Music Amplifier must be mounted indoors. It is not designed for outdoor use.
USB-C Service Port: The rear-panel USB-C port is for service purpose only.
AC Power Required: The included 5' AC power cord (2-prong C7) plugs into the back of the Bose Music Amplifier and an AC power outlet or surge protector (sold separately).
