Great sound, poor life

I purchased this player almost exactly 5 years ago, it sounded fantastic, no question, but I only gave it two stars because the left channel DAC recently stopped working, 5 years seems insufficient life for a unit at it's price. I had to replace the unit and I have to admit the Cambridge Audio unit I purchased doesn't sound even close to this unit. I guess the tradeoff is having fantastic sound but needing to replace the unit every few years.

Better than expected.

If you look at the specs, it has better than average numbers in it's price range. It's received rave reviews from the HI-FI reviewers on social media. I like it so much that I bought 2 ot them. The game changer is the internal DAC. I have paired this with some really good external DACS and I'm convinced that the onboard DAC inside DCD 600 NE sounds much better. Soundstage, imaging, clarity, all noticeably further. I listened to Santana Abraxas, Thelonius Monk and Joni Mitchell paired with it's matching amplifier the Denon PMA 600 NE and wanted to keep listening all day. I also found it easy to use. Buttons are easy to find. It loads fast, runs quiet. I would give 5 stars but... I would have liked to see a COAX output and a detachable power cord but for how it sounds and runs?.. Outstanding.

Sonds Great, Mechanically Clunky

Sounds great, mechanically it is really clunky. The drawer opens slowly, so slow you think the button didn't work. After over a year of a year of use, the drawer doesn't close completely any more. I have to give it a finger assist to help it close all the way. The display is ridiculous, like an old dot matrix printer and it is completely backwards. Instead of reading "track 1" it reads "1tr, 2tr" etc. There are really cheap CD players that have better-working drawers and better displays. While it was still under warranty the left channel RCA connector stopped working. Had it in the repair shop for weeks waiting my turn.

I had a Sony player from the early 1990s! It bit the big one a month ago. Didn't owe me a dime, as they say. Called Crutchfield for some CD player guidence. This peice of kit is really simple in style but not in the sound it renders. Hearing things in recordings I did not know where there. Wonderful stuff.

I think this is a finely made unit. Sounded great until it started skipping on some CDs after about 4 0r 5 hours of play time. Tried same CD in older player, had no problems. Just my luck, I guess.

Denon DCD-600NE

My first impression of the Denon was how clean the front is I like the look without a bunch of buttons and dials. After finding a unit that looks "clean" then I see how it rates compared to other models I might consider. Well as you can see the Denon DCD-660NE was my choice and I'm extremely pleased with the sound and quality of this unit.

Great Customer Service, Faulty Player

I split the difference on this review, because the unit itself was faulty--going into self-protect mode so I couldn't play or remove my CD. However, Crutchfield's awesome customer service is sending me a replacement unit, which I hope will work properly. So, 0-stars for the defective CD player, but 5-stars to Crutchfield.

Solid CD player

Great build quality, the sound is a little sterile. I don't have many CD's but I have a few with some meaning, so it was nice to play them again. Tray seems to be pretty solid. My first Denon component, I would say I am satisfied. From what I seen in the market had to do better at this price point.

I really wanted a multi cd player, but they exceeded the space requirements for my installation, and many of the reviews for the multi disc players had concerns about the longevity of the units. This player works as advertised and was easy to install with the Denon DRA-800H, I hope it is reliable.

Has trouble reading/playing some CDs. Unit is loud at times; there's clicking noise from the spin motor (it sound like) that competes with music at low volume. Had to lube the tray a few months ago, as it wasn't opening or closing smoothly. Disappointed, given the price: Crutchfield recommendation off-base in this case, in my experience.

If at first it doesn't play . . .

The first Denon CD player that was sent was defective and would not read CDs. After working with customer service at Crutchfield (which was highly satisfactory), a second shipment was made. The second player has performed as expected. Set-up was easy and all of the components of the player worked in conjunction with a an older model Fisher amplifier.

Simple, straightforward, competent

Solid performer all around. Perfect match for the PMA-600NE amp. Very simple controls and sound is phenomenal. The dimmer on the display is a nice touch but the display itself is a little small to read across the room. The remote is the same as the one for the PMA-600NE amp so if you buy both you'll end up with a redundant remote. Or a spare? The tray mechanism feels a little flimsy and that leaves me feeling that this unit might be slightly overpriced. There is almost no motor noise once the disc has spun up and S/N > 100 dB. No question about the sound - amazing!

Like hearing music again for the first time!

I'm really happy with this CD player. The 32-bit digital to analog processing is amazing. I'm hearing subtle nuances in familiar songs that I never noticed before. I'm using it with via my 1981 Pioneer SX-3700 receiver and HPM-60 speakers. Dealing with Crutchfield was a pleasure. Unit arrived quickly and packed really well.

Simple yet perfect

Very clear and detailed. My last CD player was a Marantz and this one did not disappoint. Straight forward use. To eject a CD you must use the button on the player as there is not one on the remote. That is a small thing, considering if I am ejecting I have to be there to remove the CD and add another, but I usually have the remote in hand.

Solid unit, excellent performance.

I'm incrementally replacing my 25 y/o stereo gear which has served me well, but it's time for a change. The DCD-600NE replaces my old 5-disk Denon CD player (which still works well). It is a solid, no-frills unit which quietly goes about doing its job. I'm very happy with it.

A CD player of a quality that should be twice as much.

Outstanding recommendation by the rep that helped me. After a good discussion around the system I had, this was the only choice that really made sense. As a vinyl guy, it was nice to have a CD solution again. Listening to CD's after years of them collecting dust.

The Denon DCD-600NE is terrific. Noting that I recently upgraded from a significantly lesser unit, I really love this CD player. Playback is clear and warm, design is clean and practical, and the price is right. I considered spending significantly more but felt that I, personally, may not appreciate the difference in most settings. I have no regrets and would recommend this player.

I'm very happy with the new DCD-600NE. I bought this player to replace my old Denon DCD-600 I bought in 1987. I paired the new player with a Denon DRA-35V receiver and a pair of Bose 501 speakers (also purchased in 1987), the sound is great. The review by Eric A was very helpful. It's OK.

So far it seems like a decent machine, but there are a few minor things that I don't like compared to my Onkyo C-7030. First is the remote, which it shares with a receiver, so very few of the buttons on it are even relevant unless you also have the Denon receiver. You cannot open the disc drawer with the remote. When powered off it won't turn on and open when you just hit the open button like on the Onkyo. Also, when loading an MP3 CD, many times it will say that it cannot read the disc before it finally does (again, discs that I have no issue with on my Onkyo). So time will tell. I think it's a bit expensive for such a basic player as well.

Unit has good sound, however, when opening and closing the tray, it is quite a bit noisier than my Rotel CD11 Tribute. Otherwise, it meets my needs for my second system. As always, great price and service from Crutchfield.

Pricey but worth it

Pricey for a CD player with no bells and whistles but the performance speaks for itself. The appearance is simple and understated but in my opinion elegant. The build quality is very good. I am not an audiophile expert but it is obvious that most of the cost went into utilizing higher end audio components. The sound is warm and clear. It can only get better with more break in time

Old School Listener

The Denon has good sound. I'm just disappointed that multiple disc players are no longer relevant. Having to get up and change each CD is a bummer. My previous Kenwood CD player had excellent sound, readable panel and I could program up to 30 tracks. It lasted 25 years without a warranty. The digital panel on the Denon is very hard to read.

I ordered this CD player mainly because it was one of the few that had a five star ratting in the reviews. It seems solidly built and sounds very good. I gave it a four star rating because I can't see the information in the function/display window from across a small room and I had originally wanted a Yamaha CD player, the Yamaha CD-S300 (#?), but it was always out of stock with arrival date unknown.

Sounds great, and simple to use. Has no button on the remote to eject disc but no big deal. This unit has some weight to it feels and looks like a quality piece. Matches the PMA 600NE amp perfectly and the remote for that amp is identical to this one so i'm just using the one for the amp keeping the new one for the cd as a spare.

This is a great CD player. It works beautifully with my B&K amp setup and Acoustat electrostatic speakers. Also it arrived very quickly and has an elegant and understated look. Plays my home burns every bit as well as professional CDs.

So far so good.

I haven't owned a single cd player in a very long time. I would have preferred a modern 5 disc carousel or 400 disc changer, but Sony stopped making a long time ago. The player is very basic in the rear: optical, rca connectors. HDMI and/or yellow RCA for video output would have been nice to display on TV, but maybe the thought process for Denon is keeping audio signal clean as possible from interference. I don't understand why there is no eject button on remote, but I suppose if you are ejecting a disc you need to be next to player since it only holds one disc anyway. Plays well, just hope it lasts for years because it is getting difficult to find CD players. I would recommend ripping your entire CD collection as WAV files, as HDD storage space is so huge and affordable, because MP3 is far inferior sound. Another thing I don't like is this only plays MP3 AND WMA file formats; FLAC is only compression worth playing on an audiophile system. I recommend this device.

Understated looks, solid transport, full uncolored sound, this Denon CD player is a solid performer. Not five stars because owner's manual is on a disc, instead of an easy to reference paper manual.

Quality sound

I am being asked to review a second time, rating is the same - 5 stars! I have a huge music collection but no audiophile skills. I have a Denon Amplifier/Receiver hooked up to Dish and my TV, and a turntable, and even a cassette player, and this CD player was super easy to connect and sounds great with my Bose speakers. It is exactly what I wanted - a great quality single CD player.

I'm glad I persevered and ordered this even though it was out of stock until December 28. It was not a lie! They shipped it on Monday January 4 and I got it Wednesday January 6. It is a 4 step hook-up, 3 if you don't use a remote. So simple and perfect for me who knows nothing about audio setups! Plugged it into my Denon Amplifier, plugged it into the outlet, and now listening to my CDs once again! Thank you for making it so easy, and for not promising it would be restocked and then not restocking it, like most companies. Great sounding product as well. I knew it was the one when I found it. 500% better than my Sony portable unit.

The player is exactly what was described and bare bones front panel, but the workmanship and quality Denon provides inside is what essential and matters to me. Good Quality and Price!
