    Android Auto & Apple CarPlay

Android Auto: The Boss BV800ACP receiver supports the Android Auto app for Android smartphones running OS Lollipop (5.0 or newer). Your compatible Android smartphone must be connected to the Boss receiver's USB port via the the USB cable that came with your smartphone (a USB extension cable may be required and sold separately), plus be paired via Bluetooth (your vehicle's parking brake needs to be engaged to initially setup Android Auto). Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for driving and automatically brings you useful information and organizes it into a simple on-screen user interface. It's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road ahead. Features of Android Auto include -

    • Google Assistant: The Boss receiver enhances your Android Auto experience even more by incorporating Google Assistant using the head unit's external microphone and your car speakers for voice command and text-to-speech, which makes using Android Auto and all of its integrated applications fast, easy, and safe. You will need to press the "mic" button or say "OK Google" to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make a call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, or listen to music.
    • Google & Waze Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. Select your destination by using the head unit's touchscreen or just say where you want to go through the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You can even listen to music from your Android Auto device or other connected source device while using Google Maps. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
    • Phone & SMS: With Android Auto you get access to your contacts and messages through the Boss receiver while keeping your eyes on the road. Use the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology to make a phone call, or have your text-messages read aloud to you while you concentrate on the road ahead; you can even reply to texts via voice command.
    • Music: Access your Android smartphone's music library through the Boss receiver via YouTube Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen to select songs or just say what song you want to listen to through the head unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You also get access to online music and radio stations from Amazon Music, Tidal, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, & Tune-In. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo. Click here for a list of all compatible app for Android Auto.

    Notes:

    • Make sure you plug in your Android smartphone to the BV800ACP's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay/Android Auto" with a USB-IF certified cable (not compatible with the USB port labeled "USB/Charging"). Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
    • The initial setup for Android Auto requires that your vehicle be stopped and the parking brake is engaged. You will need to connect the parking brake wire of the receiver's harness to your vehicle's parking brake circuit for the head unit to recognize that the vehicle's parking brake is engaged.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Android Auto is being used with a connected Android smartphone. You cannot have an Android Auto smartphone and Apple CarPlay iPhone plugged in at the same time.
    • Click here to learn more About Android Auto and to see what phones are compatible.

Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your USB-connected iPhone 5 or newer (running iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector in the car, while you stay focused on the road. Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and integrates them into the Boss BV800ACP. Apple CarPlay offers an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, view maps, listen to music, and access messages from your compatible iPhone through the Boss BV800ACP in-dash receiver. With Apple CarPlay, you can control these functions from the BV800ACP receiver's 6.75" touchscreen or activate Siri for minimized distraction.

    • Maps: Through Apple CarPlay, the power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze, you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have their own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone: With Apple CarPlay, you can use the BV800ACP's interactive touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return calls, and check voicemail. To dial a phone number, simply tap the "Phone" icon and Siri will ask you who you want to call. Using the touchscreen you can manually enter a phone number from the on-screen keypad, scroll through contacts, or select from recent and miss calls. In addition, you get access to your voicemails via touchscreen and Siri. When a call comes in, simply tap the "Phone" icon to answer. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included external microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers. You can emphasize or weaken the volume level the microphone. You can also select which car speaker outputs the caller audio; you can select All, Front-Left, Front-Right, or Front-Left/Right.
    • Text Messages: Apple CarPlay also lets you enjoy a better and safer way of text messaging with friends and family when you're on the road, through the Boss receiver and Siri. Through your voice commands, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages so that you never have to glance at your phone while behind the wheel. When a new message comes in a banner will come across the screen and Siri will read back the message for you. Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.
    • Music Library: CarPlay lets you access your music in your iPhone's music library, plus Apple Music from the Boss BV800ACP. You can browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Song, etc.. just like you would on your iPhone from the BV800ACP's touchscreen. You can also use Siri to find and play back your music. The BV800ACP's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background. Tap the Now Playing icon on the Boss receiver's capacitive touchscreen and see song, artist, album information with Album Art displaying in the background. From the Now Playing screen you also get basic playback function, like Play/Pause, Previous Next/Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Repeat/Shuffle.
    • Audio Apps & Podcasts: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, podcasts, sports, news, and audiobooks - including Pandora, Tidal, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, Slacker Radio, Vox, Stitcher, MLB.com At Bat, CBS Radio News, NPR One, OverCast, Audiobooks.com & Audible (subscriptions and fees may app). Control them from the head unit's touchscreen or Siri just like you would from your iPhone. Your iPhone's touchscreen remains unlocked during CarPlay connection, so you are able to access additional music apps and listen to them through the Boss receiver; however these apps offer no control or display information from the head unit's touchscreen.
    • Apple HomeKit Compatible: CarPlay now supports control of Apple HomeKit enabled devices (sold separately) through Siri. Using CarPlay in your vehicle, you can ask Siri to close or open your garage door, turn on or off home lighting, increase or decrease the temperature of your  thermostat, as well as control select functions of other Apple HomeKit enabled devices and appliances. Click here for a list of compatible Apple HomeKit products.
    Notes:
    • Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 7.1 or newer.
    • Make sure your plug in your iPhone 5 or newer to the BV800ACP's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay/Android Auto" with an Apple certified Lightning-to-USB cable (not compatible with the USB port labeled "USB/Charging"). Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • You cannot have an Android Auto smartphone and Apple CarPlay iPhone plugged in at the same time.
Cellular & Data Plan Requirements: Access to CarPlay and Android Auto apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android smartphone to connect to the Internet. Your compatible Apple or Android device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.

Smartphone Charging: The Boss BV800ACP will also charge (5V/1.5A) your Android Auto compatible Android smartphone or Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone while connected via USB with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

    Q
I have a mono amp hooked up to two subwoofers. How do I connect it to the radio?
    jessi  Jan 30, 2024
    1 answer
    A
When connecting your subwoofer to the Boss Audio BV800ACP you will use a 2-channel RCA patch cable like the EFX in the link below. The Boss Audio BV800ACP has a subwoofer-specific preamp output. The head unit's subwoofer pre-out utilizes its own low pass crossover which can be set to 50Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, or 160Hz. You can adjust the subwoofer output's level (-14 to +1) independently from the overall volume. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_142D17/EFX-2-Channel-RCA-Patch-Cables-17-foot.html

Is there a back up camera with this receiver?
    michael  Jan 22, 2024

A camera is not included with the BV800ACP. It would be necessary to purchase the BV850ACP Package, which includes the BV800ACP and ELPC40B backup camera. Here is a link to that package: www.crutchfield.com/p_104BV850AC/item.html

    Q
I purchased the unit along with a Boyo rear camera. The camera receives power when the car is in reverse. The camera must be selected manually and is not displayed automatically. Does anyone have this same issue?
    william  Jun 09, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings William, and thank you for your question. The Boss BV800 ACP has a reverse trigger wire in its harness that needs to be connected to the vehicles reverse wire as well. Thats how the Boss stereo knows when to switch to that camera input.

I am sorry for that frustration, Daniel. If you are having any issues with a product you purchased from Crutchfield, please have your order number ready and call us at our Technical Support line at 1-888-292-2575 and we would be happy to help!

    Q
Why does mine keep randomly changing audio input method? I'll be on Bluetooth or CarPlay and, completely on its own, it will change to AV in or Tuner. It also randomly changes the audio level or completely mutes it. I have also had it skip songs, all of these issues being completely on its own without any command by me.

Greetings JT, and sorry about those issues. To me I would have to say there is a hardware related problem, but Im no technical Support expert. I would say, if you purchased that Boss from Crutchfield, to give our tech line a call. Their number would be on your shipping confirmation email. Boss radios bought from us would have in some cases a 5 year warranty which we would take care of the exchange right here. If you happened to purchase this elsewhere, Boss Audio has exceptional tech support as well. Call them at 805-751-4853.

So far there are non, or too few to be called a known issue. If purchased from Crutchfield you have a 5 year warranty on that stereo if purchased after June 2022. Warrant replacements would be done here. If you purchased it elsewhere, you still, have a 3 year warranty thru Boss.

Does a bass knob work with this?
    mac  Jan 10, 2023
    1 answer
    A
You cannot connect a Bass knob to the sweet Boss BV800ACP sadly, Mac. The Boss head unit's subwoofer pre-out utilizes its own low pass crossover which can be set to 50Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, or 160Hz. You can adjust the subwoofer output's level (-14 to +1) independently from the overall volume however, right from the radio's screen. You essentially get the bass knob built-in!

Callers hear an echo of themselves when I'm using CarPlay; I have read other comments which say that this does not happen when connected via bluetooth only, however I'll be using CarPlay all the time. Is there any fix for the echoing the callers experience?
    eduardo  Jan 03, 2023
    1 answer
    A
The first thing I would try Eduardo is using a different or higher quality USB to lightning cable, Apple approved are always best. After that check some phone settings as the echo is usually phone related. Try the steps below to confirm you get the best voice clarity when taking calls not connected to Wi-fi. Go to your iPhone Settings and click on "Mobile Data" Open "Mobile Data Options" Then tap "Voice & Data Then switch on "VoLTE" I hope this helps!

Where would remote switch wire go for amplifier?
    harrison  Dec 13, 2022

You will want to connect your amplifier remote to the Blue/White wire on the Boss harness, Harrison. That is located in pin #11 of the harness and should be labeled "P.Cont" with a tiny tag. If you are having any issues installing gear you purchased from us, do not hesitate to call our live Technical Support line at 1-888-292-2575, we have live Agents 7-days a week.

What would be the best way going about wiring up a 2012 rubicon? Also how do I go about getting all of the necessities I need?
    larry  Nov 15, 2022
    1 answer
    A
We make sure you get all the install gear you need Marc if you are tackling the job yourself. This sweet Boss BV800ACP fits in your 2012 Wrangler, but you'll have to modify your vehicle's sub-dash to install a new car stereo. We do give you instructions that outline this, so no worry! In addition to the radio, you will need a dash kit, wiring interface, and antenna and USB adapters. We discount all this gear $50 bucks when you pair it all together with the radio! I've sent you an email with the Boss radio and all install gear paired for you to check out, I selected 4-door without the Infinity audio but these bits work with 2 or 4 door Infinity and non-Infinity Jeep options, you're good to go with the Boss Marc!

It is not necessary to replace the stock speakers in your 2016 Nissan Sentra when installing a radio like this Boss. We offer installation parts that will allow this to be installed, and retain the stock amp with it (should you have the Bose sound system). Will this radio work in my chevy truck without my factory bose amplifier?
    steve  Jul 31, 2022
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Steve, and thank you for your question. The Boss BV800ACP has a 4 channel amplifier built in. Not as good as the Bose amplifier, and depending on vehicles and their factory speakers, you might not get all the speakers working using the Boss built in amplifier. If you have a factory subwoofer with your Bose system, like my Tahoe has, its not going to work if you bypass the Bose amplifier.

Crutchfield should sell a wiring harness that will work for the radio. What I would recommend is researching if Crutchfield sells a harness to work with any existing features, such as a back-up camera or hand controls on the steering wheel. While I purchased a wiring harness for the actual radio, there are no harnesses for a Nissan Frontier to make the radio compatible with the factory back-up camera or steering wheel controls.

I was planning on trying to install this myself. I don't have any need for a backup camera, was wondering why I need to connect this to brakes, and if that's something I can easily do?

If you're not planning to have a back up camera, you don't have to connect it to the brakes. Did the install myself on my Genesis Coupe, and had no issues by not wiring to the parking brake.
    christian  Aug 09, 2020
    A
The reason you need to connect to the e-brake is because android auto and apple car play will not work otherwise. Both require you to have your parking brake enabled to set up your phone to the system. Depending on the car you are putting this into dictates as to how easy it is to connect. My 8th gen Honda accord was easy enough to do.
