It started with the young lady who assisted me in the purchase all of the way to my last call to insure correct wiring!!!! Receiver sounds pretty good but every receiver/radio I've had sounds okay. The problem for me here is that I have thousands of mp3s on my phone that I shuffle through and would like to see, at a glance, song title and artist on the digital readout screen while driving. Despite 31 levels of brightness even the highest level is still so dim it cannot be seen during daylight hours. I don't want to get in an accident trying to read the screen while driving. This is a bummer for me but its the 2ond one I've tried so I'm just giving up. Crutchfield is great though.

I'm the Hero of the Week ..for the week

My wife has an ancient Honda she loves and won't get rid of - she's going to "drive it until it dies", so...since our state has a hands free law for cell phone use, I got this predominantly for her safety while driving - and she loves it, but the bonus was just how great this sounds and the features it has for such a really affordable price. The colorful display and her ability to now pair her iPhone with this and play "her music" (God help us all!) has made me the hero of the house ...for at least a week - and it was worth it. Great Features, Crazy Good Sound, Colorful Display, Making a post-menopausal woman feel like she's 21 again, Priceless!!

I originally went with an offbrand unit to replace a 15+ year JVC unit, mostly so I could have Bluetooth as I was getting tired of managing the AUX attachment I had for it. With that said, the offbrand unit clipped the music horribly, deciding that I enjoy music too much to stick with that I ordered this JVC unit. I'm glad I made that decision, music sounds great with the added bonus of all the sound enhancement options that give quite the range of tuning options. Bluetooth is seamless and the USB charging port is much welcomed over what I had. My only compliant with the unit is that I wish the display had higher brightness options, reading it in the sunlight is not easy. Granted I don't use the radio and really only use the volume knob/trackskip most of the time.

radio works fine and has a lot of settings for the sound for me the buttons are too small was installed in a convertible and the glare makes seeing the display impossible sold it to a friend and installed a marine radio with a black display and white background

Dim Some

The display is so dim at max settings, I would've thought it was defective if others here hadn't mentioned it. If there is any daylight at all, it is nearly impossible to see. Otherwise, I love it.

Nice Head Unit

I am super impressed with this stereo. Purchased a lower end JVC stereo for two of my other vehicles, and stepped up to this one and it is amazing. Love all the options that it has with pre outs front and rear and subwoofer control. Also, I was really surprised at the audio adjustment where you can select speaker size to optimize sound. The Bluetooth connects very quickly is a lot better than my previous JVC models. Sound quality is great and has plenty of power.

Easy to install single DIN mount receiver. Sound is excellent through my BMW speaker and amplifier. Easily paired my phone with the Bluetooth. Panel operation so far is fairly straightforward. Changing the color of the faceplate to anything you want is pretty neat. Changing the available primary colors of Blue/Green/Red in different proportions allows you to do that. Service from Crutchfield is excellent with downloadable install instructions specific to my car. Called them and Tech Support answered quickly and resolved my question. They also included for free the necessary plugs needed for install.

Nice Stereo, Pretty Scratched Up Though

Nice head unit. It was a scratch and dent special, but it really was a SCRATCH and dent special. It'll work for my purposes, but it really ought to have been cheaper given how scratched up it was. I would have rather paid full price and received a mint unit, but it's not worth the hassle or time.

Feature packed for a low price

Replaced JVC KD-T91MBS that died after warranty expired. Same menu interface as previous HU. Same connector in back so I didn't have assemble a new harness. Unlike the previous HU the display screen has a black background with backlit text, preferred the previous white backlighting because text is much easier to read; text backlighting is too dim in the daytime even at the brightest setting. Since it's a digital media receiver the chassis is lighter and has a shorter mounting depth which made installation a little easier. Like the previous HU the clock displays the wrong time until picking up a signal through the FM tuner

If you want something easy to hook up and use that looks great and performs even better , buy this JVC unit. I always do my own harness connection but this time opted for the Crutchfield harness service and it saved me so much time and hassle. Love this option!!

If at first you don't succeed.

I got a very early production unit and it was wonky from the word "go". Constantly interrupting whatever was playing to "listen" for Alexa. It would take several minutes to connect to my phone, and the success rate was maybe 50% connecting. Then it wouldn't power up no matter what was pushed and all fuses were checked, and all connections were individually soldered and had heat shrink (not the "do it all connections" but actual solder and heat shrink). After 3 days it came back to life for a day, then failed. I contacted Crutchfield and was mailed a replacement unit. I simply unplugged the old unit, plugged in the new, and all is resolved!!!! It connects quickly, has no quirks or issues, and sounds great!! I'm glad I reached out to get the old one replaced under warranty!! Very pleased with the new unit (which has never once interrupted a song so Alexa can listen)

This stereo is kinda complicated to get used to, but overall it is a monster for the price. Blows my older receiver out of the water! One of my biggest problems with the old one was the clock would not keep time, this one uses RDS signal to set time so it is always correct! Very good power output and settings available to match to your specific speaker size.

My experience with Crutchfield over the past several decades has always been nothing short of perfect. The value and customer service can't be found anywhere else. My order was complete and arrived in a timely fashion. The JVC KD-X380BTS is an extreme value, packed with features that provide a great sound for F-150. I was planning on adding an additional amp, but this unit is perfect for my single cab truck. I recommend it for the average audiophile.

Took a gamble on a JVC head unit, regret it. Only head unit in my life that was bad out of the box. Right rear output channel not working, defective unit causing a lot of time wasted diagnosing, returning, reinstalling, will not purchase JVC again in my lifetime because not only was the head unit faulty, so were the 2 speaker component systems purchased. Minor dislike is that the USB does not read directory names, instead just calls them all by a generic name and index number, also the fader is not F to R it's just zero to 12? very confusing because balance is R to L.

Once installed, it works flawlessly. I love all the customization options, especially the colors. It does exactly what I needed it to in terms of Bluetooth, and wireless capability very quickly I might add. Perfect for a simple setup and ready for anything else I might add in the future, such as subwoofers and an amp.

Great little receiver at an excellent price!

Great little receiver at an excellent price! This was my first JVC receiver and I'm very happy with it. It brings all the modern technology and great sounding music to my aging car. Love that I can match the colors to my vehicle's existing dash lights. That, along with the Metra Dash Kit, make the installation look as clean and close to factory as possible with an after market unit. Based on other reviews for this receiver I was a little worried about the brightness of the display during bright days, but I find it to be perfectly visible in those conditions. As is always the case with any Crutchfield car stereo, the installation was a breeze and everything worked perfectly on the first try.

Above and beyond

Nice head unit. Being shallow helped me fit this in my third gen Firebird better than other units I have had in the car. Gave me Bluetooth and hands free calls. I use the Alexa feature a lot. I run my front 4" dash speakers right out of the unit. I have my 6x9s on a small amp and run a shallow downfiring 12" sub off a second amp. Having RCA preamps for front, rear, and sub is a nice feature on this unit. Overall, I am very satisfied with this unit. It exceeded my expectations.

Leaps and bounds better than both the stock radio and the cheap $50 head unit I threw in temporarily while I waited for things to come off of back order and back in stock. Woke up the Infinity system in my 2002 WJ which was surprising given how unorthodox it is with crossovers in the stock amp, bass only front door woofers and full range 2.5" dash speakers. Could finally make use of the system after not having an equalizer. Favorite feature might be the options it has to tune the system according to your vehicle. Can choose from compact, SUV, minivan, sedan, etc. Then can choose speaker height and location. Worked great to dial into making it a great sound stage without having to read a dissertation or comb through forums and articles to optimize your system.

Installation was easy and the sound is good in our 2001 Ford Ranger. Unless you're desperate to save $25, buy the ReadyHarness service where they make up the adapter cable. Saved a lot of time.

Very compact and super easy to install with the provided install kit! The head unit has a well thought out user interface. Sounds great, was pretty intuitive on the menu as well. Love the way it looks and really like the convenience of bluetooth connection. I understand people complaining about the readability of the face, but I'd rather not be blinded at night by the brightness.

Great receiver, but not bright enough

I love everything about this receiver - except, as another reviewer mentioned, the brightness during the day. I ordered this one specifically to replace a Kenwood I had that did not auto-dim with my headlights, which left the unit blinding at night. This JVC fixes that issue, but now I've got the opposite problem and can barely see the display during the day, even at full brightness! That said, this JVC has pretty much all the same tuning capabilities of the Kenwood and sounds exactly the same. Crisp highs and can control my Kicker Hideaway sub directly from the head unit. I like that I was able to match my truck's lighting with the variable color (aside from the text/display area, it stays white). If they fixed the brightness issue, I'd give it five stars. It's a great value regardless.

Great receiver by JVC that really makes my speakers come alive. Love the ability to customize the colors. My only complaint is that the text is not bright enough on sunny days and you can't change the text color. I have it set to the brightest setting and can barely see it. But, looks great at night.

I have installed this head unit in a Porsche Boxster 986 2000. The brightness of the screen is excellent. I can see the screen on a sunny day with the top down. It was an easy install, thanks to Crutchfield for free adapters. Also, the radio length was short, which helped to install the unit and push the cables more easily.

Good system for the price!

Installed in 2000 Jeep Wrangler two days ago. The JVC KD-X380BTS was easy to install once dash components and old audio system removed. Provides good options, sound, and seems to work well so far. Have only used AM/FM operations. Rating not based on Bluetooth or any of the other options as these have not been used at the time of this review.
