The legend continues...

Infinity's reputation is legendary, but their Kappa Series car speakers don't rest on those laurels. Designed and built for audiophile tastes, these Kappa 86cfx 6"x8" speakers benefit from a refined design, Infinity's proprietary technology, and premium materials to deliver uncompromised audio quality.

Edge-driven dome tweeters

Infinity employs an edge-driven design in their soft dome tweeters for a smoother, more open response and minimal distortion at high volume. The UniPivot tweeter design means you can aim each tweeter toward your ears, so you'll enjoy excellent stereo imaging even if the speakers are mounted way down low in your doors. Each tweeter also features a level control button so you can adjust the brightness to your taste.

Woofers enhanced with Plus One+ technology

Bring on the bass. Kappa's glass fibre woofer will hold its shape when the power's cranked up, so you still get punchy and defined bass. Glass fibre weighs less than traditional materials, so you don't need a ton of power to drive this woofer either. Infinity's Plus One+ woofer technology extends the cone right up to the edge of the basket, giving you lots of surface area — and a bigger cone means more bass to complement the superior high-frequency response.

Awesome power handling, no matter the system

These 2.5-ohm speakers boast ultra-high sensitivity so that you can power them with a factory radio or aftermarket stereo, but you'll get your best results feeding them plenty of power from an outboard amp. Either way, these speakers' low impedance safely takes advantage of every watt of power available for exceptional performance. Enjoy Kappa sound quality at any volume.

Grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Product Research

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speaker cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

High-Output Design: The high output 2.5Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extracts every watt from factory receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4Ω speakers). The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers, designed to power a 2.5Ω load.

Edge Driven Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has an edge-driven textile dome tweeter. Edge-driven tweeters have better dispersion characteristics and allow for a lower crossover frequency than typical tweeters of the same size, which improves imaging. The result is improved vocals and musical clarity. The tweeter also has an output level switch; choose +0 dB (flat) or +3 dB.

UniPivot Tweeter: The tweeter is angled and can be rotated about 270° after installation. This allows you to direct the tweeters toward the listeners, very useful for speakers mounted low in a door.

Mounting Applications: Infinity describes these speakers as 6x8, but they also fit many 5x7 applications. Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Terminals: The input terminals are set screws that will accept up to 12 gauge bare wire.

Q
Hey guys, will an class D amp move this Infinity speakers well?
frank  Oct 10, 2020

A
Depends on the wattage of the amp. These speakers need at least 80-100 watts RMS. The amp also needs to be stable to 2 ohms stereo as well. The class D will power them more efficiently than a class A/B would. Hope that helps.
paul  Oct 10, 2020
A
Oh yes, absolutely. I love these speakers - beautiful clarity, deep bass and efficient!

A class D amplifier will definitely move this Infinity Kappa speaker. If sound quality is of major concern, an electronic crossover with an equalizer before introducing the signal to the amplifier will make these speakers sound incredible. Just as a side note, class D amps are known for clicks and speaker pop sounds when turned on. I use these exact speakers in a full range setup in my sound quality competition vehicle, and they produce winning results even when installed in factory locations!

Q
What wiring kit do I need, for these to replace my factory speakers in my 2013 F150?
garrett  Jul 21, 2020
1 answer
A
If you are using the factory radio to power these it might not work too well. Those Infinity speakers have a 2.5 ohm impedance. I do not believe the factory radio will tolerate that load without detrimental effects. For the factory radio a set of 4 ohm impedance 6x8s would be better. If you are using an aftermarket amplifier that is stable to two ohms in stereo mode these speakers will work just fine.

Q
Why would it say these can't fit in my 2012 f350?
jacob  May 20, 2020
1 answer
A
You will just have to verify the size of the stock speakers first. I've installed these in my 2005 F150 and my 2006 F350. I highly recommend them. They sound great! In my F350, I installed an Alpine head unit with the compatible amp, and you can turn volume all the way up and the speakers don't distort. They handle the power great. The speakers are very efficient, thus the 45 watts/channel amp works great with them. Hope that helps.

They should fit, if they are 6x8. How are they not fitting? What's the problem that makes not to fit?

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
THese come with a plastic infinity-branded trim piece held on by scotch tape. What's the deal with those? Do I leave them taped on? I can't see how else they would stay on. Are they even needed?

No take off and put speaker in its place, they sound great amplified
jeff  Jan 30, 2020
A
You don't need to leave them on. I think they are more so you can attach them if wanted; for instance, my speakers fit in the factory door location, and are covered by the factory grill on the door. I attached the logos to the factory grills, so it look like the factory supplied infinity speakers. I can't remember if I had to apply adhesive or if there was adhesive already on the back side of the logos, but either way, it looks factory. At least, in my opinion.
michael  Jan 30, 2020

No, just taped on for shipping purposes. Remove, install and enjoy. These are amazing sounding speakers.

I did not let this on. I actually threw it away if i remember correctly.

Q
This is listed as not fitting 2006 F150 standard cab, but the infinity reference of the same size are shown as a fit, I am wondering what is the difference between these or if they will fit my f150?
teddy  Sep 16, 2019

A
Teddy, I have a 2013 F150 so the size may be different but I too noticed that these 6x8's fit in my truck while others did not. I believe that the issue is depth, specifically with the magnet coming in contact with the window and window structure. The Infinity Kappa 6x8 fit but I did check with a borescope and saw that there was not much "extra" clearance behind so perhaps other speakers have larger basket and or magnet assembly causing a clearance issue/contact between the magnet and window.

I have a 2011 f150
garrett  Sep 16, 2019
A
I don't know specifically, but they may be of a different depth, and may not fit for that reason. They worked in my 2014 F150, but the truch chaged quite a bit in between those years.

Q
I am looking at replacing my Infinity Kappa 62.11i in my 2006 Navigator running a JBL Gx-A604 amp. The factory hole is 6x8 so I think the size will fit. My concern is my current speakers are 2ohm and these say they are 2.5ohm. Will 2.5ohm work with my amp? I'm looking for speakers that will sound as good as my current ones but will fit better. The previous owner put round speakers in a 6x8 hole without adapters and caused the plastic to crack.
andrew  Mar 23, 2019

the 2.5 ohm speakers should work with your amp just fine, you just might need to turn the gain up slightly to get the same volume. You may not, depending on how the sensitivity compares, but either way, your amp will push them just fine if it's pushing 2 ohm speakers right now.
michael  Jan 30, 2020
A
The stock mounting pattern is for a 6x8 speaker. As long as the crack isn't too bad, I expect you will be able to still use the stock mount and get these speakers installed. The 2.5 ohm will work with your JBL amp. It's so close to 2 ohms, that there will not be much, if any, noticeable difference in volume levels and these speakers will produce a fuller sound with lower bass than the 62.11i speakers can produce My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul
