I LIKE IT................
James from Yorktown, VA on 12/17/2023
When paired with a head unit that has a Hi-Def screen this item is fabulous. The cable was way too long for my truck. Be SURE to wire and test unit before closing up the install. It has a very WIDE angle view. Crutchfield Support was helpful, but not always accurate in the information provided. Call Kenwood if needed they were helpful as well.
Pros: Great View. the camera seems very well made.
Cons: You need a good plan for install location and wire path to the head unit (But that is ALL cameras)

Kenwood CMOS-740HD
CHARLES E from CENTURY, FL on 10/23/2023
Exceptionally clear video, and was easy to wire to my Kenwood headunit w/ Maestro RR. I only wish there was a license plate frame mount available and that the wire coming into the camera 90*'d up or down to assist with surface mounting. So mounting was a bit difficult on a pickup truck bumper, but I made something work until I can find a better mounting bracket.
Pros: HD Video Easy to wire
Cons: Bracket not great wire at camera can get in the way

The Kenwood CMOS-740HD is a great camera. It interfaced with my Kenwood DMX809S Stereo very well. The functionality and picture quality are excellent. The install was very easy. Installed on a C6 Corvette.

Lifesaver for Older Cars
Brandon from Upper Marlboro, MD on 7/10/2023
Jumping back and forth from a modern car with a backup camera, to my 2003 WRX project car without a backup camera, I was in the market to fix that as apparently I've forgotten how to back up without one over the years lol. Camera paired well with my KENWOOD DMX958XR and wiring was a breeze using the Crutchfield harness diagram/instructions I received with my radio and camera. Initial connections only took me 15min to test for functionality. Longest part was removing trim/seats to tuck wires away safely. Now to setup these guidelines! Thanks CF for the supplemental docs post purchase and great customer service!
Pros: Easy install Great HD Picture Easy to mount
Cons: Can get warm with prolonged use **Using as rear view camera when driving Mounting bracket can require modification for tight spaces

Great video!
Daniel from Renton, WA on 4/6/2023
Amazing video! Looks really great! When paired with an HD head unit (I have the Kenwood Excelon DMX957XR), the results really do speak for themselves! One note of caution: all the Crutchfield videos I watched on mounting backup cameras say that if you want your backup camera to automatically turn on when you go in reverse, you need to connect the power to your reverse light cable so the camera turns on when the reverse light gets power. THAT'S NOT HOW THIS CAMERA WORKS. There's actually no positive/negative power lines on this camera's wiring harness until the very end where it's supposed to connect to your head unit in your dash. So it's really not possible to wire up this camera that way. Instead, when paired with one of the supported head units (like the DMX957XR that I have), the head unity will know when you're in reverse and you just need to connect the camera to a power source that's always on when the car is. I spent a few hours of my total build time--and 2-3 calls to support--trying to figure all this out. Also, I'm not sure how I thought this camera mounted in the car...but I was wrong. I THOUGHT that I was going to be cutting out a hole in my bumper or trim or something and the lens poked out through there...but that's not it at all! There's actually a mounting brace that you can attach to your car in a multitude of ways and connect the camera to that. That's cool...just wasn't what I was expecting based on the photos

The video is so clear and the wide angle is great. Honestly one of the best picture quality in a reverse camera.
Pros: - Size - Video Quality
Cons: - Mounting Bracket is questionable

Good camera; mount not very adaptable.
Francis from O Fallon, IL on 7/15/2022
Happy with the camera. The mount is not the best for my 2010 F150, but I worked it out. Wiring instructions were not clear
Pros: Clear picture.
Cons: Wiring instructions are not clear. The first Crutchfield tech rep wasn't sure either. His advice didn't make sense, so the next day I called a 2nd time. This time I spoke to a rep who knew exactly what to do and from there it went well.

Excellent video quality on my Kenwood DMX957XR. Unfortunately, Crutchfield wasn't able to help me find my Reverse wire and I can't get the parking guidelines to work or have it come on automatically when reversing, but that's more of a function of a DIYer.
Pros: HDR quality Compatibility with DMX957XR
Cons: Difficult to connect to Reverse for some non-experts

Great image day or night!
BatKitty from California on 10/21/2020
This was installed onto 2017 Jeep Wrangler JK with the Kenwood DNR1007XR and it looks AMAZING! Day and night the resolution is incredible with the 1280x720 resolution screen. Without wanting to mount to the spare tire carrier (going to be removing it and relocating the camera to the delete kit once installed) we used a rubberized hitch cover and mounted it there for the time being so that it would have a central location for the best usability. I'm glad we chose to spend a little extra for the great image quality!
Pros: Great image, works well at night, easy install
Cons: Limited mounting options for a Jeep

Kenwood CMOS-740HD
Crutchfield customer from FALLBROOK, CA on 9/22/2020
Nice backup camera, good resolution and low light visibility. Seems to be well built, was paired with the Kenwood Excelon DMX957XR radio. Wide field of view, and there are adjustable distance markers that are adjustable in the radio view screen. Slightly grainy picture, although it probably doesn't matter. Wanted to keep most of the components Kenwood from a comparability point of view. The camera power was wired into the accessory power so camera is always on when the key is in, the camera view is triggered by the radio and the radio backup trigger was tied to the backup lights wire connection under the dash. There is no tail light connection in the camera cabling at the back of the vehicle. Four stars because of cost.
Pros: Very good picture quality, good low level brightness with wide field of view, seems to be well built and nice (durable) cabling.
Cons: Cost, not quite as nice (picture quality and distance markers) as some OEM camera systems I have seen in other cars.

Beautiful HD Backup-Cam
Crutchfield customer from Carmel, IN on 7/13/2020
I paired this with the Kenwood Excelon DMX957XR. The picture quality is fantastic. Installation was difficult, but not because of anything that Kenwood could have improved. It was just challenging fishing the wire from the dash to the trunk. That will be true with any wired backup camera. The only thing to know is that the receiver doesn't default to automatically turning on the backup cam when backing up. It is an easy setting to change, but strange that it isn't the default.
