I installed these in the back deck of my 2009 Buick Lacrosse. The 6×9's bolted right in with zero issues, for the tweeters I took off the plastic that surrounds the little triangular windows behind the back doors, and used a hole saw to make the proper sized hole in the angled bottom edge of the plastic that would be right under those windows. The tweets dropped right in and ended up angled up towards the passengers. Perfect! I hooked the wires up to the back of the 6×9's using the low pass connection to keep treble out of the 6×9 and route it through the included Kenwood crossover to the tweeters. I use an old Sony "Big Red" 5-channel amplifier to power my 4 interior speakers and my 1× 12" sub., and WOW these Kenwood 6×9 component speakers took my sound quality to the NEXT LEVEL Vs. the stock factory speakers! Great bass response and WAY louder and clearer than the factory speakers. The Kenwoods have NO issues swallowing up all that the "Big Red" amplifier has to offer, and that amp is NO slouch either. At the same time I also installed a set of Kenwood 6.5" 1700's in my front doors, and it's all ran with a Kenwood Excelon 706 Hi-Res deck. EXCELLENT! I AM Completely happy with my Hi-Res sound system. Oh, I also have a single Rockford Fosgate P3S 12" in a small ported box in the trunk. Pure audio bliss!

Pros: All of them!

Cons: None of them!

These have a very crisp clean sound. I used these to replace the factory speakers in my Tundra. The tweeters fit in the dash with no modifications. My head unit is 45w 4 channel so it is a bit undersized but I can see an amp coming soon

Pros: Comes with all the adapters needed to fit, base is amazing tweeters give clean crisp sound.

Cons: Really no cons for me

Monumental upgrade for 2019+ Chevy Blazer!

Mike from Marion, IA on 4/16/2025

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Crutchfield says they won't fit, but I installed them in my 2021 Blazer (base, non-Bose system) without any trouble. If you're trying to decide between these and the Alpine S2-S69C components, GET THESE! I had the Alpines installed for over a year. They sounded much better than the factory speakers, but always left me wanting more. I saw these on sale, figured I'd give them a try, and was blown away at the difference. They crush the Alpines in overall performance. The bass is far more present and impactful. The highs are also clearer despite not having a separate tweeter like the Alpines. These are a monumental upgrade over the factory speakers which were downright painful to listen to even at a modest volume. The latter had a severe harshness in the upper midrange around 2KHz-3.5KHz. These Kenwoods also have a slight bump in that same spectrum, but it's easy to forgive considering how great they sound otherwise. If they already sound this good with just the factory radio, I'm sure they'd be spectacular with some DSP tuning and a separate amp.

Pros: Impressive bass performance Surprisingly good highs Includes adapter brackets & lots of foam for proper installation Sounds great with factory radio

Cons: Slight bump in the upper midrange frequencies No separate tweeter

I just installed in my 2006 toyota camry. It's says the dash speakers wouldn't fit, did some homework, decided to take the risk. Everything fit beautifully. Crystal clear highs, solid bass, not over powering, but they are not on an Amp. Highly recommended!! It comes with ALL of the extras that's needed. Big plus

Pros: Clear sound, nice price

Cons: Haven't amped, not sue yet

I recently installed this Excelon setup in my truck. I went with this setup as it is tailored to my truck and the top of the line for Kenwood. The 6x9 door speakers sound great! The bass is tighter and more punchy than stock. Now to the dash speakers..very disappointed!! Once I hit about 3/4 volume they distort and pop/crack like they are blown. I have the provided i line crossover/filter installed. I even triple checked that everything was hooked up correctly. In my opinion, Kenwood did not provide a crossover/filter that blocked out enough of the low end and mid bass. I ended up ordering different dash speakers through Crutchfield that are on back order. Hope these sound better!! I will be adding a 4 channel amp as well for frequency control and more power for all the speakers. Sounds better than stock now, but they seem to have more to give and would like them a little louder.

Pros: Good factory replacement. Over all better sound quality than stock.

Cons: Dash speakers could bring more to the table. A better inline crossover to remove more low and mid bass might be the trick.

Very happy with my new speakers. My hearing isn't too good to begin with, but now I can hear some sounds that I haven't heard for quite a while. Service was very very good and my customer service rep, Bethany, was just a joy to work with.

Pros: Installation was OK, all the holes seemed to line up. Packaging of the speakers themselves was excellent.

Cons: Cutting the adapter bracket that was supplied with the kit so that it would fit inside the opening in the door was a little bit tedious Until I started using my oscillating saw. That made quick work of the trimming and it was no problem after that.

Poor sound quality. 2016 Chevy Silverado. Factory H/U. The bass from these 6x9's is non-existent. Perhaps I wired it incorrectly but did confer with Crutchfield's technical support during install. I wired it as I was told. Very disappointed with bass. Fortunately, I have an amp and high-quality sub filling in the low end. When I turn the sub down to zero, bass completely disappears indicating the door speakers aren't reproducing low notes. It's possible I have the speakers wired out of phase. I have more trouble shooting to do, but first impressions... don't waste your money on these speakers. The dash speakers sound pretty good and are an improvement over factory (which disintegrated in my hand when I took them out). Like the other reviews, I found the mfg instructions to be poor.

Cons:

Sound decent with equalizer

2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Installed these in a Toyota FJ Cruiser. As others have said, instructions were not super-clear. There are several options for removing unneeded tabs from the multi-brand-fit 6x9 installation bracket for Toyotas, and you basically have to hold the bracket up to the car door to see which tabs need to be removed because the instructions aren't specific for which Toyota you are working on. Also, the tweeters really needed to have their screw holes bored out a bit to perfectly fit the FJ's factory dash brackets, but I made it fit well enough without doing that. My biggest gripe was the harsh sound of the dash speakers. It was really causing listener fatigue and I was having some buyer's remorse after installing everything. Full disclosure - I'm 53 and have tinnitus, and some frequencies cause me real discomfort at anything above low volume. Fortunately the Alpine head unit I'm running has a really good advanced equalizer built in, and I was able to lower the boost between about 1kHz and 12.5kHz, which really smoothed out the sound and made it tolerable. I'm still going to tweak the EQ some more to see how well I can get it dialed in, but so far it sounds pretty decent. I'm satisfied overall.

Pros: Pretty good for price range. Basically a drop-in replacement for factory speakers.

Cons: Tweeters sound harsh without equalization. Not a perfect fit in my car, but close enough.

Overall specs and sound quality are as stated within the product material. Impressed with the engineering of the components, the parts and instructions allow for a fairly straight forward installation. Like the fact that the Speakers are an exact size match of the OEM's that were replaced. This allowed the installation to be even more painless and straight forward because with a few slight modes I was able to use the factor mounts and connectors for the installation. Start to finish less than an hour.

2008 Tundra. I wasn't sure how I would like the dash speakers being a mid-speaker that does double duty as a mid and a tweeter, but I was impressed by the highs on these speakers. I peeked through the grill with a bright flashlight and noticed the mids have a whizzer on them which enhances the highs (the stock mid did not have a whizzer). The door 6x9 makes a lot of mid-bass. I ran these speakers off an aftermarket head unit for about a month while I gathered the needed equipment for the amp and DSP install. They sounded good without an amplifier, but really came to life with more power. I used the OEM dash speaker connector and wire since it puts the door speaker and dash speaker in parallel. I soldered it to the Kenwood mid after shortening the wire on the crossover (it is very long). Crutchfield sent some brackets for the mid-dash, but they were not needed as the speaker bolts right in. It seemed like the instructions said you didn't need to use the spacer for Toyotas, but without it the magnets hit the window track. I then used the spacer and all was well. They come with lots of different strips of foam. Use the thin pieces between the each layer and use the tall foam piece between the speakers and door panel.

Speakers worked great in my 4Runner! A definite upgrade over factory. A lot more low end with upgrade to mids and highs as well! I used some sound deadening and fast rings to get the most out of these speakers and I'm not disappointed. You'll either need to solder or wire crimp the 2-3/4" crossovers to your wire harness (Metra 72-8110), but other than that, it's pretty much plug and play.

First time using Kenwood speakers of any type. I have always used Hertz. I didn't see a Hertz package set for my 2014 Chevy Silverado. I had seen many reviews of the Excelons and decided to give them a try. Out of the box you can tell Kenwood paid attention to detail. Foam, foam, foam! Nicest set of speakers I have ever owned. I used them with the stock unit for a few weeks before getting the head unit installed. AMAZING upgrade to just the stock system. Finished up my install this weekend, 4x6 JBL's for the rear. Pioneer NEX 4200 and a Pioneer GM-D1004 brick amp. AWESOME sounding system

Purchased these speakers to replace my factory front door speaker and corner dash speakers in my 2014 GMC Sierra SLE crew cab. I also purchased the 6 or 7 piece trim tools which made removing the front door panels a lot easier. The speakers screw holes matched up perfect with the factory holes. I only gave these speaker 4 stars because I haven't hooked them up to an amp yet. They're running off the factory radio now and I can tell a big improvement over the factory speakers. The mid bass from the 6x9's is better than expected and the clarity from the 2-3/4" is clean and clear. I can't wait to hook up an amp to them. I'll be purchasing a 6-1/2" component set to replace the rear door speakers and add some highs in the rear of the cab. I plan to purchase a pair of shallow mount 12" subs and a 5-channel amp to go under the rear seat as soon as I make my mind up on the models I want to purchase. Will update review once complete.

My 2007 Toyota Tacoma will have 400,000 miles on it at its next oil change so it was no surprise when I saw that the front door speakers were showing visible signs of age. Mid range very loud at upper dash speakers

Thomas from SANTA ROSA, CA on 6/4/2020

2007 Toyota Tundra

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I installed these into my full size Toyota Tundra. Most of the sound was coming out of the dash speakers. The dash speakers are not tweeters, but are a mid range speaker. As a component system, this really fails. I couldn't hear the door speakers and thought they weren't working. My tech worked on the head unit adjustments thinking something wasn't adjusted right. Be sure to look extra close at the dash speakers in this set, and you will see they are not actual tweeters as in most component systems. Couldn't send them back soon enough. About sending them back... Crutchfield couldn't have done it better. They have the best service of an online outlet than I have ever worked with. Both in sales and after sale service and technical help. Customer for life.

Pros: Great Crutchfield return service

Cons: Way to upper stage forward. The full range of the speakers for the dash really overpower the door speakers. No tweeters, so very poor highs, if any.

Installing Kenwood Tweeter/Woofer

Instructions from Crutchfield were very good on this older truck. I always have a fear of breaking those plastic mounting pins on older Toyota vehicles when removing door panels, but with the help of the instructions, I knew just where to apply the pressure to remove the door panels. Kenwood doesn't provide the best instructions; they are somewhat terse, so I resorted to test fitting first before doing any final mounting. I did have to do soldering of 4 wires on the tweeter harness to get the crossovers in, but that went fine too. Kenwood makes great equipment!

Pros: Great installation instructions from Crutchfield. Well packed equipment; no chance of damage to components. Kenwoods are not too costly. Crossover support available when I replace factory Toyota stereo deck next month. Great sound, even with factory stereo. Free harness kit made installing the woofers very easy.

Cons: Need to be careful with those plastic pins on older Toyota vehicles. Need to use a plastic tool set designed to work with these vehicles to remove older stereo and door panels Crutchfield instructions need to specify to "never" use metal tools such as screwdrivers to remove older equipment as they will damage the plastic and vinyl in the dash and break mounting pins in door panels.

I installed these in a 2007 Tundra Double cab. They fit perfectly! The Toyota speaker wire harness runs through the dash speaker so I cut the pigtail off the dash speaker and wired it with the Kenwood crossover. I'm pushing them with an Alpine PDR-F50 85W x 4 Car Amplifier. They handle the power no problem and sound great. I have never had a Kenwood Excelon speaker but was impressed with these. I have been running them for 7-8 months, and they still sound great!

Sounds amazing. Mid bass is very strong. Highs and soundstage is great. The door adapters and foam fit perfectly. I have them running a full 100watts rms with no problems. The inline crossover greatly simplified installation in my Silverado.

Pros: Adapters and foam included Power handling Fit is perfect Inline crossover

Cons: None so far. Made no compromise with these.

These are a great replacement for the factory speakers in my 2016 Toyota 4Runner with Entune Plus . The sound stage remains the same . It is higher in the vehicle due to the 2.75" mid/high range dash speaker. I tried the tweeter route which made the sound stage lower near the front door drivers. There is also a noticiable increase in bass from the 6X9 Door speakers. The metra bracket 82-8146 6X9 and metra harness 72-8104 made installation very easy. Kenwood also includes braket gasket tape and foam tape for the front of the speaker where it meets the door panel. I also purchased the Kenwood Excelon KFC-X174 for the rear doors and hatch. Besure to request the Metra 82-8148 bracket. This bracket is required to make these 6.5" speakers fit properly in a 5th generation 4Runner.

Pros: Installation is easy with Crutchfield provided gear. Sound is overall better and more enjoyable using the factory head unit. I can hear parts of songs that I couldn't with the factor speakers. This is especially true when listening to Live recordings.

Cons: These add weight to the doors and hatch which is noticable while opening and closing. It is a matter of getting used to it.

Great speakers!

Great speakers! Replaced my stock speakers (supposedly alpine) in 2012 ram. IMO having kept with the almost 3 inch speakers in dash rather than satellite tweeters gives a fuller sound spectrum. Stock HU sounded way too high pitched with the Kenwood speakers so I replaced HU with Kenwood 9706s which I love. Also using one JL 300/2 slash series to power both front and rear (jl 6x9s). Amazing high end articulation while retaining solid mids with these speakers. I put a JL c7 350 in center speaker position powered from stock amp to retain center speaker spectrum, pricy but worth it I think. Center speaker position in this ram has more watts than the other 2 dash speaker channels and was able to bring gain on JL amp up to its volume perfectly. Sub is JL W3 in custom box powered by JL 500/1. In last truck I had dynaudio 6inch speakers that cost about 11hundred for pair. Dyns were smoother but there are articulation qualities I enjoy more, especially distorted guitar, from these and for 220 what a bargain! Extremely happy with over all sound of system.

Installed these in my partner's 2018 4Runner. I had limited prior experience with Kenwood speakers but I liked that these fit both doors and dash locations like OEM. I put some sound deafening speaker kits in the doors, too - 1 sheet where the speaker mounts, and one sheet to the inside of the door skin. Initial impression is very favorable. Sound is much clearer than factory speakers, with greater detail and balanced sound. Installation was straightforward, except you will need to either cut and re-splice the dash speaker harnesses, or you may be able to buy some adapters. I found a wiring diagram on an online forum but Crutchfield tech support could also help you out, I'm sure. Overall went in as expected and sounds great, but I expect will sound much, much better once I get them amped up with a sub, hopefully tomorrow!

Pros: Good installation options, includes foam seals for speakers and mounting brackets. Sounds much clearer than OEM speakers.

Removed factory speakers and installed these in front door and dash on 2017 Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab and connected to a Soundstream Stealth 4 channel amp. Clarity beyond belief. Sound quality with added power. Rear door speakers installed were Kenwood KFC-X174. Did not replace factory HD Stereo which is reason for the amp. This allowed HD Stereo to maintain functionality.
