Works in my Datsun

Installed in my 1971 Datsun 240Z and works well. A little confusion as to which mounting parts (of many) to use for proper fitment as the instruction sheet does not picture the parts well.

Crutchfield good...Product very, very bad.

A relative of mine has a 1998 Oldsmobile with automatic antenna. Over a decade ago I had to replace the motorized factory antenna and Crutchfield sold me an excellent product that lasted until now. I reached out to Crutchfield again for a motorized antenna, and this was the product my sales consultant recommended. Within a week the box arrived on my doorstep. Removal of the old antenna and installation is very straightforward. Select the appropriate mounting plate for your particular vehicle, connect the drain hose and wires, and within an hour you should be in-business. However, anyone planning on purchasing this antenna should be aware that the drive cable that raises the mast is made from very brittle plastic. In my case the antenna worked properly ONE time and then did not lower when the car was turned off. I discovered the broken drive cable when I removed the antenna to return to Crutchfield. The mast is also made of very cheap and fragile metal tubes. So, buyer beware. This product is very cheaply made and will not stand up to years of extension and retraction. I ended up buying a non-retracting antenna from a local store. The manager of that store shared with me that 9 out of 10 of the Metra AntennaWorks PW22's end up being returned within a month for being defective. I give this product a one-star rating and would highly recommend that you purchase a different antenna product.

Antenna was shorter than the original with the car. I had to fabricate a bracket to support it. The electrical leads should have had spade connectors attached. After installation it worked well and provided good signal capture.

Product was installed in a 1965 Mustang Coupe so it required a little bit of work for the bottom mount in the fender well. The multiple mounting heads were not really needed since the fender was flat but the basic rubber washer filled the original hole very well. I can put on the car cover without putting a hole and grommet for a fixed antenna.

2000 Acura Install

End result looks and works great. Acura Service would not install the antenna because it was not a "Honda certified" replacement. Took me about 3 hours from start to finish. It was a bit confusing with the wiring but my volt meter helped with that issue. Using the original fender bushing made it look original. Make sure to use the bottom strap to keep the antenna straight when extended and plug the drain line back in. Good luck with your install.

A good retracting antenna

I bought this antenna to replace an identical one bought several years ago. The old antenna never provided strong signal reception, but this new one pulls stations in nice and strong. It installed just fine, but did require some attention to get it securely braced with extra cable lengths tied out of the way. It's a little on the noisy side as it goes up and down, but not too bad.

Good working antenna, easy to install. Only problem I had was with customer service trying to get a connector to mate the 2 male coaxial cables together. Sales finally came up with a solution more connectors

Good Replacement to factory Antenna

I purchased this back on 1/28/13 for my 1994 Acura Vigor. Just got around to installing it 9/22/13. Installation was somewhat easy, with a little modification needed for the bracket that bolts to the vehicle. There was ample hardware included for a range of different vehicle. I used the existing rubber support from the top of my old antenna and secured it with the new nut provided. Making sure to use the new gaskets for the underside of the antenna. The instruction are vague in my opinion when it comes to the electrical part. Male end on the antenna is a tad bit to small. I had to do some adjustments, and rap electrical tap on the male and female end to ensure the it would not disconnect. I had to call Tech Support for assistances in figuring out the wiring. Chris in Tech Support did an outstanding job helping me resolve the electrical issues I encountered. Overall its a nice antenna.

purchased 6/2013 so far so good. . replacement for 93 buick custom oem that quit. installation instruction vague. more than enough parts for any application. needed to do some tweaking for install but works fine, reception better. this was not a plug and play install. customer service and tech advisor excellent help.

Antenna

The antenna was fine but very hard to install unless you have had experience doing this. I had to take it to Best Buy and have them get it installed correctly. I am using this now. So if you have do not have some experience in installing this type of item I do not reccomend it for beginners

Wish there was a better product to buy!

I purchased this product to replace the same antenna that I bought a little over two years ago for my wife's 1988 Buick LeSabre. This is the 4th antenna that I have purchased in maybe 5 years. When I asked the company representative to look in to a better quality antenna I might buy he informed me that this is the best it gets and nothing else was available. Based on my experience to date I hope that this is the last antenna I need to buy before getting rid of the car. That or else my wife will need to go without a radio. No more money being spent on this poorly made product.

Functioned fine for a short period of time and now has somehow stripped it's gearing mechanism. Sad, but I am forced to buy another as my classic car is now set up for this particular unit. No other way to describe it but cheap junk!

Nice unit

This is a nice alternative to a factory antanae that was 3 times the cost, Definitley need to plan for modifications. I had to install so that it will operate thru a wing on the rear of the car, not to bad with a few hours of trimming on the car and some creative jury rigging. If you are mounting on the back of a car make sure to get an extension, they are only a few bucks.

Works well, with a few mods.

If you are looking for something that will simply plug and play, this is not for you. You must be willing to bend and twist the mounting strap into a position closely approximating the weird angles of the original antenna's mounting bracket (and no, the original bracket will usually not work). I installed this on a 1989 Toyota Camry LE V6. Here's how you wire this up on 1987 to 1991 Camrys (please do exactly like this to avoid having to cut and solder all over again): Cut off the blue wiring connector on the original harness (the connector that plugs into the original antenna's relay box). Yes, cut it off completely, leaving 6 inches of the wires (about six or so wires). You only need two wires coming into this connector. You will be taping up the other four. Now, connect the CONSTANT POWER WIRE from the new antenna (look at the guide in the box to determine which is the constant power wire) to the cut-off connector's wire that is BLUE WITH A YELLOW STRIPE. Connect the SWITCHED POWER WIRE from the new antenna to the BLACK cut-off connector's wire. Connect the new antenna's GROUND wire to a bare metal spot on the body (hint, before you attach the mounting strap of the new antenna, put the ground wire's round metal connector under the mounting strap's nut as a washer. Presto, you have grounded the new antenna). Solder (preferable), twist and tape, or wire nut the wires together. Believe me, this works well.

Did not meet my expectations

Not as easy as I hoped to install. My car needed additional extender cables(which I had to order). I was disappointed to have to go to more effort than I thought. After intallation I find out that the antenna would not receive AM radio. The reception overall was dissapointed. I had to take it down and replace it with the old antena. Crutchfiel customer service are excellent. They send me the extender cables for free. This is not their fault.

The install was a bit frustrating but nothing that some patience didn't alleviate. You definitely need to be familiar with your car's wiring as it's not plug and play so you can match up the wires from the car to the appropriate wires on the new antenna. Tip: I cut the plug and play connector off of the factory antenna and crimped the wires to the new antenna. It made connecting the antenna a snap. Mounting is tricky. The metal mouting bar has to be bent and twisted and manuevered into place. Not difficult but tedious. Once installed, the antenna works great. Quiet and reception much improved over the old factory unit.

Excellent Product

This wasalmost as easy as it gets. The installation was very simple, I was even able to use the factory brace by reversing it and opening the mount holes slightly. Wiring was easy to test and then connect. If you have any mechanical ability at all, this is extremely easy. Stronger reception than factory and very quiet.

Excellent product, inadequate instructions.

This product is an excellent motorized replacement for my broken factory antenna. While the removal of the factory product was very straightforward, installation was complicated by the lack of step-by-step instructions and the quality of the diagrams, particularly that came with the antenna. One call to Crutchfield tech support (thanks a lot Chris!) straightened it all out though. Once he pointed me in the direction of the online vehicle wiring diagrams on the Crutchfield site, everything took about a half an hour. Now I've got excellent radio reception and a working antenna to boot! Thanks!

Mounting was difficult

Hardware for mounting the antenna could have been better. I was unable to mount the antenna using the 30 degree adapter. I could not get the mounting nut to start. I had to file approximately 1/16 inch off this cone shaped piece to get more of the antenna to stick above the body so I could start the mounting nut. I also had to modify another piece in order to center the antenna in the existing factory hole. Once I did all that I was able to reuse part of the factory antenna mount to secure the side of the antenna to the body using the same factory support location. This was better than what the instructions wanted me to do. Electrically the antenna works very well.

I bought this antenna as a replacement for an after market cheap antenna that was in my '97 Altima when I bought it a few years ago. The antenna that I had was not powered so I was a little worried about finding the car's original power antenna wiring. But the install was smooth and I found the factory harness tucked neatly near the original mount. Upon installing it, I found out the hard way that I had blown a fuse which took out the radio and antenna. After a quick trip for some fuses, the antenna works great!

I wanted to replace my manual antenna on my 2003 Hyundai Elantra because of all the hassles when going through a car wash. The folks working at these car washes insist on taking the antenna off and usually with a pair of pliers. I had read the reviews here and wasn't real sure how this would work out. The instructions must have changed, everything was straight forward and clear. Since this was replacing a manual antenna, the hardest thing to do was running the two power wires from the trunk area to the dash. I was able to use the existing factory antenna lead and just plug the new antenna lead into that. It's almost like the Elantra was setup for a power antenna. I tried using the various mounting bases that came with this antenna, but what work out best was using the factory base mount from the original factory antenna. The final installation looks like it came from the factory with a power antenna. BTW - I before I purchased this antenna I went to the two major national electronic stores to have a power antenna installed. They both assured me that there was no way a power antenna would fit my Elantra. One of these stores even carries this exact antenna for $40 more than the price here. Well they were wrong again. Overall I am very please with this product.

The mast on my factory antenna went out on my 1992 Accord. I called around and the dealerships wanted $80 just for a new mast. So I seen this antenna for $45 in the outlet part and bought it. It took me about 30 minutes to install and it works and looks just like the factory. The only complaint I have is that the customer tech told me that I wouldnt need the $4.99 adapter, and he was wrong. So I had to cut off the factory adapter and match the wire colors. It works perfectly fine though.

Good product, horrible instructions

It's a well made product but like the two reviewers before me there's allot to figure out as far as wiring, and which mounting hardware to use. I followed Thomas Buswell before me, as for the wire colors, the same colors worked in my 1996 Camry. That saved me a bunch of time, he get's the fourth star in my review, thanks Thomas. Took me two hours to install, not bad considering the guess work on which mounting hardware to use. Seem's to work very well, just double and triple check your wiring choices.

Product performed well once installed. Biggest issue was installation. Instructions was very unclear. Doesn't clearly state which wire is needed to be connected with the product's wiring until I made a call to Crutchfield. There was no clear indication which piece of adapter goes with each harness. Putting in the plastic ring was more of a trial and error.

ok product, poor installation instructions

Antenna quality is good and looks similar to the factory unit. Possibly the worst installation instructions by far that I have seen in a long time though. Be prepared to put together an erector set because the instructions give you no clue as to which adapters go with what mounting plates. The original '94 Camry power antenna has 6 wires going into the old antenna relay. The blue wire from the factory harness is always hot which goes to the red wire in the power antenna. The red/white wire is the radio switched power and goes to the blue wire of the power antenna. Vehicle wiring harnesses and colors may vary, doublecheck with a volt meter before wiring.
