Another great harness from Metra
Jonathan from Caldwell, TX on 7/12/2022
1998 Honda Civic
I have always been happy with the quality of metra brand harnesses. This one is another good one, it is long enough that you can leave the OEM radio in its place and mount your aftermarket radio in the lower dash. The lower dash mounting keeps the stock look of the car to avoid unwanted attention to my new alpine radio.
Pros: Length allows different mounting options, connectors fit well into OEM, color coded for easy install, instructions in case it's you first radio
Cons: None

Works like a charm and Thanks for the help
KevinK from Worcester MA on 9/8/2015
I installed a radio head in my son's 1998 Civic and when I was ordering parts initially, I guess I got ahead of myself and ordered the wrong harness. Got elbow deep in it on a Sunday and when I figured out I had the wrong harness, I called customer support - I talked to Jason(?) and he couldn't have been more helpful. He got the correct harness to me at no cost and even sent it priority mail so I could get the job done quickly. Thanks to everyone at Crutchfield - you are the best!
Pros: Fit perfectly and was easy to install

Great instructions and fit
Michael W from Layton, UT on 1/18/2014
1997 Honda Civic
I actually modified my harness (removing the second connector) because I didn't want to keep my keyless entry, as it hadn't been working reliably. The instructions are great, with one warning--when it tells you to splice the green/red and green/black wires, look for the light green wires--not the brighter green ones. Once you figure this out, it's pretty easy and straightforward. If you still aren't sure which wires to splice, a quick YouTube search should point you in the right direction.
Pros: Allows you to keep keyless entry, connects easily
Cons: Instructions refer to green wires, not light green. Wire splice must be done in order to preserve overhead dome light functionality.

Martymann from Fresno, CA on 11/28/2010
1998 Honda Civic
I did not need to keep my old Honda stereo behind the gloove box as I was told for my auto unlock to work on my 98 Civic. Overall it was esy to install. I ecommand that you remove the old Civic deck and see if you locks still work, if so then you don't need to keep the old deck behind the dash.

mslongjr from Austin, TX on 8/23/2010

This harness did a fine job of connecting my new Sony to the old factory radio (needed to preserve keyless entry functions) and to the factory wiring in the dash. Note that you'll still need a soldering iron or a set of wire connectors to connect the harness to the wiring from your aftermarket radio, however.

Metra 70-1720T Receiver Wiring Harness
Crutchfield customer from Naperville, IL on 1/11/2010
1998 Honda Civic
Unfortunately the instructions assumed the manufacturer's original radio was still in operation and had not already been replaced by a previous owner of the auto with an Alpine unit. This is likely my error. Therefore instead of rewiring the system using the Crutchfield provided harness; instead cut the existing radio's connection to the harness already in place and soldered the Dual radio's connecter to the interface plug wiring. All is working flawlessly.

Todd from Waxhaw, NC on 2/20/2009
1998 Honda Civic
This wiring harness was extremely helpful and made the installation of my new reciever a snap. The only advice that would have been helpful and saved me some trouble would have been to have known that the radio that is being replaced also has the seperate cassette player, the cassette player needs to be removed also to make room for the factory radio to be stored if you have keyless entry.

This harness was a tremendous aid in installing our new head unit. We soldered all of the connections with shrink tubing for protection but it could just as easily been done with crimped connectors. Only suggestion would be to include the connectors...

Perfect fit, clean solution, some assembly required
Dennis from Richmond, VA on 10/21/2005
1998 Honda Civic
I bought this for and fitted this into my wife's 1998 Honda Civic EX. The harness is just the right length to fit the old stereo down in front of the shifter (and keep the keyless entry) and the fit of the connectors is superb. The instructions were very clear and make the mate to the stereo harness very easy. I would recommend soldering the wires of this harness with the wires from your radio harness for the cleanest look; you could also use inline crimped wire connectors to keep things fairly neat looking. When you move the factory radio, make sure you remove the faceplate to keep it from turning on and work on it to get it as far down into the hole behind the cigarette lighter as possible. I found that wrapping the old stereo as described in the included instructions was not an option as it makes fitting the stereo in the hole too difficult. I made a cardboard face to cover the hole left when the faceplate was taken off and that worked fine.
